Hi all,
I have a working SM-G903F phone with a broken screen (all black with no touch) and I'm trying to install TWRP with Odin as suggested here. When I put the phone in download mode and I start flashing this image, Odin fails with the following log:

According to this post, you don't need usb debugging enabled. In my case they are both disabled.

unfortunately I can't execute these three steps:
1/ Go to "Parameters/About". Tap 8 times on "Version number". Developer mode is activated.
2/ In "developer option", tick "Activate". Go down and activate "OEM Unlock" & "USB Debugging"
3/ Go to "Parameters/Security" & tick "Unknown Sources"
since my screen is all black.
But according to this post, you don't need usb debugging enabled as you can read here:

Ok, I'll put this to bed right now for anyone else that happens to read that misinformation posted all over the net.
You DO NOT and never have had required to have root or enable USB debugging to install custom recovery.
Recovery is a mini OS that has absolutely no connection to the main system OS. USB debugging and root are only required for the main OS.
You dont even need an OS installed to use recovery.

Hi there. Did you managed to flash a custom recovery to your S5 Neo? I've got the same issues like you with using odin. Or if not, did you manage to recover your data other ways?

The phone is an international GT-I9505. It was previously running 4.2.2.
The software I have chosen to upgrade is the same software I have successfully used to upgrade my other GT-I9505.
I have used the PIT File in order to get access to the recovery mode.
I have tried two different frimware, both downloaded from samfirmware.com.
The phone gets stuck @ system.img.ext4.
I have done this many times before, but this has never happened.
Please tell me exactly what details you need so I can offer you the information in order to help me figure out this mess, it's driving me crazy ....

If I don't use my laptop's USB 2.0 port, it won't even start the flashing.
To make this easier: I have read most of the basic stuff around the forum (ports, different firmware, wipes, flash pit).

I built this for the Chinese SM-A5100, but it should be compatible if your device is Qualcomm MSM8939.
This is as yet untested so ensure you have your stock firmware just in case.

Tell me what happens in detail I may be able to fix it.
Depending on what fails is dependent on how it's fixed.
Videos of the root process is good as let's me see exactly what the issue is.
Does it flash?
Does it start the root process?
Does it fail to mount partitions?

Same problem here, the root proces fails. But for a moment, before it fails root proces, there is a message on the phone display (while in download mode), that the phone is locked (I think because of a locked bootloader, but maybe I'm wrong).

Yes, so far, everything works just fine.
Just to mention, after the root was completed, the phone "bootlooped" for 3 or 4 times, before it started up android OS (maybe that's normal, I don't know).
I'm not shure if the problem was different version of ODIN or the USB port on my laptop, but first couple of times I tried this version "Odin engine v(ID:3.1101)", the last time, when root process was successful I was using "Odin3_v3.10.6".

See post #13. Confirmed working.
Works for me too. ( I used Odin v3.10.6. )
Note : Because I removed the "auto-reboot" option, when the flash finished, I had to press Vol + , Vol - , home btn , power btn to reboot, so the rooting process started, and finally finished after 3 reboots.
BIG thanks ashyx ! Great job

Odin: http://odindownload.com/ (DOWNLOAD 3.0.9)
After you download TWRP, install Odin. Then follow the steps below.
1. Launch Odin
2. Put your J7 into download mode (hold volDown + power + home during boot)
3. Using your charger cord, plug your J7 into your PC while it's in download mode; make sure Odin is open.
4. In Odin, press the 'AP' button, and select the TWRP .tar you downloaded. (DO NOT CHANGE ANY OTHER SETTINGS.)
5. Verify that the checkbox by 'AP' is selected, then click the 'Start' button.
6. Once that's finished, your phone will reboot. Press volUp + power + home before you see the boot screen to verify that TWRP is installed. Reboot to system afterward.
7. On your J7, go to the SuperUser download link, and download it.
8. Once phh's SuperUser is downloaded, reboot and get into TWRP. (Press volUp + power + home before you see the boot screen)
9. When you get into TWRP, press the 'Install' button. Go to the directory where you downloaded the SuperUser .img, and select it.
10. Once you select it, it will ask you to swipe to install it. Go ahead and do that, and phh's SuperUser should be installed. (be sure to go to the play store and get his app to actually complete installation.)
11. When you reboot, you should be rooted!
Thanks to @CoffeeNAndroid for pointing out this method of rooting.
Thanks for the guide. I find that no matter if you flash cf auto root or twrp to root youre going to have to reflash that stock recovery... it makes since to root with twrp cause you can flash all the zips you want and backup youre rom all in one trip before you reflash the stock recovery... i can understand some people are like well i want a permanent twrp recovery without having to have to keep using odin to flash the twrp and stock recovery but this is what is available right now at this time...
Can you post the stock recovery.img for me please j700p.

I have a J700p under Boost Mobile. I already have it rooted and I have BusyBox. Does this change anything? Is there something different that I have to do since it's already rooted? And can I backup my stuff to my computer?
