I really have no idea but it appears the N7105 is international version with no LTE, at least that works with ATT. The N7100 is the model number with LTE that will work with ATT. Is this true? Negri Electronics is selling the N7100, the spec says "4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 2100". Does this work with ATT 4G LTE? Is this the model, if you want LTE, to buy?
I preordered from Negri a week ago, but definitely want LTE in U.S.so keep order or cancel? Many websites reference in specs LTE but others call for 2 models....anyone really know. I am not sure, but in the fcc documents for the N7105 there's no mention of lte at all.
So I believe that the n7105 is the international without lte.

If you live in the US, you want LTE. It's awesome in every respect. It's like having a FIOS line in the palm of your hand.
In Singapore, Note 1's model number is GT-N7000 while Note 1 LTE is GT-N7005. I do believe that Samsung's naming format for their international handsets doesn't differ from country to country. Therefore GT-N7105 is Note II LTE. just my educated guess.

There are at least 5 different versions if not more. Although it is LTE capable, the version sold for England does not have a LTE chip, The German one does but it will not work on ATT. There are no LTE networks in Europe that I know about compatible with ATT LTE bands. If you buy one in Europe plan on using 3G and 2G on ATT. Make sure it has these bands:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
ATT uses 850 and 1900 for 2G and 3G. You need both.
To use ATT LTE you need a chip for this:
LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100.
From what I can tell, even if you happen to buy out of country versions that are compatible for some LTE frequencies for example AT&T, it may not be as compatible as phones you would get from AT&T directly because of the mix and match LTE spectrums that AT&T and all other carriers have purchased. I'm guessing the days of importing International versions are over if you care about good LTE coverage.

Unfortunately not. I believe that South Korean LTE is on 1800MHz. Post auction UK LTE frequencies are 800MHz and 2600MHz (these are the bands to be auctioned off before the end of 2012). However, it will likely work on EE's Interim LTE network.
Everything Everywhere will launch an 'interim 4G' solution, running LTE on some of its unused 1800MHz spectrum (from the T-Mobile/Orange Merger). This will be rolled out to 16 cities before the end of the year. EE 4G is up and running as we speak, but only for dongles, and one cannot yet buy a phone on contract from them.
Aside from that, O2 and Vodafone have lots of spectrum at 900MHz, depending on what they secure at 800MHz, they might ask ofcom to allow them to run LTE on 900MHz, likely siting ofcoms agreement to allow EE to run LTE on 1800MHz as ammunition!
Three (which only had 2100MHz spectrum since its a 3G only provider), has bought some 1800MHz spectrum off EE. They have not yet declared what they will use this for, but one would suspect limited 'interim 4G' like EE.
There are basically no phones out there at the moment that support both post-auction UK LTE frequencies (800MHz and 2600MHz). France apparently uses 800MHz and 2600MHz although only the latter is currently live. There is a note 2 variant on its way that does 800/2600MHz. Lots more will follow.
The problem we have in the UK, is that we might end up with 4 LTE bands: 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz !!! No phones are going to be doing all this lot anytime soon. (I was wrong: Nokia Lumnia 920 does, Samsungs do not yet)
Additionally, what happens post-auction to EE's (and perhaps 3's) LTE network at 1800MHz - are they just going to shut it down (one would assume not!) If not then future phones for that network will need to do 800,1800 and 2600MHz. Will they cover the initial 16 cities with 800/2600MHz as well as 1800MHz to keep the early adopters happy?
UK LTE is a mess. Its partially DSO (TV digital switchover) that's to blame, but ofcom could have sold off the 2600MHz spectrum some time ago, and then done the 800MHz auctions after DSO. This is the way that France chose to run its auctions. If ofcom had done this then we could have had 4G 12-18 months ago, and we could not have ended up with half-way-house 1800MHz LTE from the likes of EE.
Anyway to answer your question, if you get any of EE's current phones: iPhone5, SGS3, Lumnia 920, (and, if they announce it, Note 2 - Korean) etc then these ONLY do 1800MHz LTE EE's 'Interim LTE' (and perhaps 700 and 2100MHz LTE - which are useless in UK). Early next year, EE will start to spread coverage outwith those initial 16 cities, but they will do this using the 800MHz and 2600MHz LTE they won at auction.
That phone you got from them wont work on these post-auction LTE frequencies. You'll likely be on a two year contract, paying dearly for the fact that you adopted LTE early since those that waited would enjoy much better LTE coverage from their later-generation phones. On top of that, your phone, not having the right radio's for UK LTE will be worth sweet FA on ebay!
The operator arguments over the 800 and 2600MHz bands have hardly started yet. If O2/Voda get permission to run LTE on their 900MHz spectrum (and are also allowed to bit on 800MHz), you can bet you house that the operators without 900MHz aint gonna be happy!
What really gets me regarding all the arguments, is that neither O2, vodafone nor (to a lesser extent) orange ever bothered to implement 3G properly. It works in cities, thats about it. Only Three and T-Mobile actually implemented a reasonable 3G network that covered most of the UK.
Personally, I would forget about LTE for 18 months until there is a viable network, and some viable hardware that is actually able to take advantage of all the LTE infrastructure no matter what frequency is happens to run on! I certainly would not be signing up with EE (or three if they do 1800MHz LTE) for 2 years, just to be the first - as there's good potential to get caught out 9-12 months down the line.
For the operators, there are other issues at 800MHz. Folk living close to base stations are likely to loose the freeview muxes that are sat in the low 800MHz. In simple cases, this is fixed by a filter, in other cases, it will require a new roof antenna, while for some other folks, it will require a switch from freeview-freesat. One of the conditions attached to the 800MHz spectrum is that the mobile operator needs to fix-up the TV signal's for any customer that is likely to be effected. This will also reduce the radiation patterns, and thus range of the base stations in certain directions. Ofcom will only allow switch-on of the BS once the MO has fixed up all potential TV reception issues. Its going to cost them a fortune!
NB: What what I have seen thus far, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 don't do 1800,800 & 2600 in the same device. BUT Nokia Lumnia 920 does.

Unfortunately, I think Negri Electronics is misinformed over the specs of the N7105. Although they list the necessary LTE bands for AT&T, I believe that may be incorrect. According to Android Authority and the FCC, the N7105 does not support USA/Canada LTE bands sadly... I hope we're all proven wrong soon though!
Alternatively, assuming all other features and hardware of the AT&T/Rogers Note II are exactly the same as the international N7105, then it's likely possible that we can simply flash N7105 firmware out of the box, but continue to use the modem.bin from the carrier firmware for continued LTE functionality. That's what I did with my OG AT&T branded Galaxy Tab, and it worked brilliantly!
So, to recap:
1. Int'l N7105 is likely NOT North American LTE friendly :'(
2. North American carrier branded GSM/LTE Note 2's will likely have 99.9% identical hardware to Int'l N7105 (the .1% difference being the tweaked LTE radio and modem.bin driver file)
3. Possible workaround for North American users would be to get GSM carrier Note 2, retain modem.bin from carrier firmware, flash Int'l N7105 firmware, flash carrier modem.bin, and viola! North American LTE friendly Int'l Note 2!
Hmmm, I may have to contact them for clarification and cancel my order if that's the case.
Will update when I get feedback from them.
Edit: Talked with a Negri CS rep, and he suggested I cancel my pre-order and wait until they receive units to verify compatibility. That's what I have just done.
Engadget have a review up with the lte bands and model numbers. BUT
they don't list the 7105 as having band 1800 which is EEs network yet EE are set to sell the lte variant next week. :-/

T-Mobile UK called me yesterday to confirm that they've received stock of the Note 2 LTE. I received a text to confirm that one of these is scheduled for delivery to my home within the next four hours (by midday UK time). Once it arrives, hopefully I can tell you exactly which bands in addition to band 3 (if any) are supported.
I'm planning on jumping on to the Note 3 bandwagon, but before that,
I was wondering what the best option would be in order to cover my bases in terms of network coverage?
I've read that the best option for the Note 2, was the T-Mobile Note 2,
because it pretty much supports all the LTE frequencies of the major carriers.
Would that be a fair assessment of the note 3 also?

I guess it depends upon where you live, but I use Verizon which I think has the best overall coverage. However, Verizon is not offering the 64GB version, only the 32GB. Are you able to find a 64GB version anywhere?
If you are a GMS user, T-Mo or ATT you may be able to find an unlocked unit, try www.mobilecityonline.com they have had unlocked units that work on US networks in the past with US radio's. Can't speak to the GN3 though and LTE since I am on Verizon.
I also knew when Samsung went with 32/64GB option Verizon would NOT sell a 64GB version, and fortunately for us Samsung killed the 16GB otherwise Verizon would be selling ONLY the 16GB.

If it won't budge profit margins, they don't care if customers can get more choices. Just my opinion.
Note3 is currently my top pick. To me memory doesnt really matter as pretty much everything is in "the cloud"..

Unless you've got an unlimited data plan, storage in the "cloud" can really eat into your monthly data limit...Especially if you like video. Personally, I prefer to get the SMALLEST storage option and use a 3rd party upgrade...Which ends up usually being cheaper and faster vs. buying it initially with the larger capacity.

Variants by carrier per se shouldn't differ except by supported radio frequencies and bands. In that sense, FCC documents are the final authoritative source in tech spec accuracy.

From the above, the following conclusions can be made.
The 2G (GSM/CDMA) technology is probably no longer relevant to most people hence I omitted their comparison but generally they are all nearly identical for GSM.
AT&T and T-Mobile versions are most alike for 3G and 4G. Sprint version is the most isolated.
The T-Mobile version is wholly compatible with both the T-Mobile and AT&T networks. It even supports AT&T's primary LTE band 17, 700 MHz. T-Mobile's only native LTE band is 4, 1700/2100 MHz. AT&T also uses that in part of their network, I believe in high density areas, as an adjunct to their band 17.
But the AT&T version is missing 3G band 4 1700/2100 MHz to be wholly compatible with T-Mobile That said, T-Mobile is reframing part of their 1900 MHz network for 3G in some areas to take congestion away from their band 4 1700/2100 for more LTE, so the AT&T phone will work on part of T-Mobile's 3G network.
AT&T and T-Mobile versions are not compatible with Sprint LTE band 25 even though it's the same frequency of 1900 MHz. It's a different band. However, they will be compatible with Sprint's 3G network. On the other hand, Sprint's phone will not be wholly compatible with T-Mobile's 3G network. It will be on AT&T's 3G.

There may be carrier branding on the case. Verizon is notorious for this. Although cosmetic in nature not affecting end-user features, this may or may not matter to consumers who intend to use their phone carrier-unlocked.
As mentioned at the start of this post, there should not be differences in end-user features between the various carrier versions.

There may be carrier branding on the case. Verizon is notorious for this. Although cosmetic in nature not affecting end-user features, this may or may not matter to consumers who intend to use their phone carrier-unlocked.

I travel frequently to Europe, and I want to get a version that supports 4G in the us and 3G where I travel to in Europe (3g @ 2100MHZ band). SO would you please advise me on which variant I should be getting based on my needs? In any case, I only want a bootloader unlocked phone. keeping that in mind, should I get a US variant (please tell me which) or the international N9005 version ?

Are you referring to GSM/EDGE, not GSM/UMTS? Or are you saying you want info for GSM (2G) and also info for UMTS (3G)?

Whether they have posted specs on their website or not already, for all 4 major American carriers, the FCC documents show testing was performed only for 2G 850 and 1900 MHz. That's a little misleading because to meet American regulatory requirements, the 900 and 1800 European frequencies don't have to be tested although support for them may be present in the device. That's why carrier and manufacturer specs can claim additional frequencies not of interest to the US FCC - not any of the other regulated frequencies.
Part 3: 3G
Your were concerned about 3G support in Europe. The Band 1 2100 MHz is universal for 3G for all phones, or should be. With insignificant exception, Band 1 is used by all European carriers as well as pretty much the rest of the world for 3G as you seem to be aware (you specifically mentioned looking for Band 1 support). The FCC documents don't specify and don't need to whether 3G Band 1 testing was carried out for transmission and reception. However, 2100 MHz is used as half of the Band 4 supported by the AT&T and T-Mobile models. That said, 3G Band 1 support should be present for both up and downlink.
Indeed the specs posted at AT&T and T-Mobile sites confirm that there is support for 3G Band 1 (implicitly up and down). With Sprint and Verizon, they have not yet confirmed support for 3G Band 1. But if they want their phones roamable on 3G networks elsewhere in the world, they must include Band 1 support at minimum. FCC documents submitted by the manufacturer, Samsung in this case, don't have to indicate support for 3G Band 1 because, again, it doesn't exist in the FCC's jurisdiction.
UMTS (also called WCDMA) is an early form of 3G theoretically capable of up to 384 kb/s. HSDPA and HSUPA were backward compatible improvements (D for downlink and U for uplink, and where HSDPA + HSUPA = HSPA) to which pretty much all the original UMTS carriers have upgraded. A further improvement is HSPA+ to which many HSPA carriers have upgraded. Although not the exact same, UMTS, WCDMA, HSPA and HSPA+ are interchangeably referred to as 3G. Modern phones are HSPA+ capable, therefore automatically backward compatible with UMTS (WCDMA) and HSPA carriers.
Part 4: Other Remarks
We'll know in a few weeks which phones are bootloader locked or unlocked. As mentioned, T-Mobile has historically not locked it.
LTE frequencies throughout the world are fragmented like no other. And we used to think quad band 2G and penta band 3G were excessive. But you're interested in quad band GSM and 3G at 2100 MHz, not universal 4G support - that's good.
I cannot tell you which carrier's GN3 or the International to get or not get particularly for US 4G + at minimum 2G/3G for international travel, only provide information for you to arrive at your own informed decision. That said, here is a summary:
AT&T and T-Mobile have already explicitly published that their Note 3 phones will be 2G quad-band.
AT&T and T-Mobile have published their phones will be 3G Band 1 2100 MHz capable in addition to their native 3G network frequencies.

Can't thank you enough for your troubles for this complete and well written answer, must have taken you quite some time. Anyhow, the reason I am concerned about UMTS (excuse the error from my previous post) is that my international galaxy S III will only get EDGE on T-mobile, this has confined me to the use of AT&T's network. I know that is because AT&T utilizes the 1900Mhz band for 3G, where TMO has just started doing that and was running on a different band before ( and still is,I think it was the 1700Mhz band). That's why I am trying to make sure I get at least 3G service in Europe and 4G in the states

I think it is about the profit margins for the Big Red. Less onboard storage space = more cloud usage = more bandwidth use = profit $$$. They may have forgotten the usd card storage option as it may be a blanket policy they apply to all smartphones not branded Apple.
Coming from 16gb GS3, 32gb is enough for me. I would definitely get the 64gb version if offered, but am more concerned about things like radio quality and overall performance of VZW GN3

It seems to me that either all carriers will support the Band 1 3G (2100 MHz) whether they have already posted it up on their website or not. To not allow such basic international is...well...just dumb. They should all have 3G Band 1.
Therefore your choice depends on which 4G frequencies you need, ie. on which carrier(s) you intend to use the phone at home in the US. Your decision, again something I cannot make for you, comes down to being that simple.

FWIW the best option is probably at&t, if you are ok with shacking up with evil incarnate. The thought process is as follows (based on your request for best network coverage), verizons seems to be monoband even though it passed the fcc as dual band and secondly the eirp is apparently poor for the note 3 so even though you will have access to lte on a sub 1000MHz band, the phone will be the weak link. TMO has nothing sub 1000MHz and their rural coverage isn't as great although I do personally use tmo. Sprint went monoband on the note 3, no sub 1000MHz. The only provider offering sub 1000MHz LTE that doesn't have a crippled radio is at&t.

If you really need ATT, I would get the tmo note 3 and use straight talk which is an ATT MVNO. They use ATT's LTE and are much much cheaper. ATT does not have any plans that strip the subsidies for new phones out. Also, the tmo s4 worked on ATT"s LTE but no one has tested the tmo note 3 yet. I'm still getting the tmo version though because I'm willing to take the chance. Everything so far says it will.

This company uses GSM1800 as their main frequency band for communications. In 2010 T-Mobile Netherlands had some problems with 3G capacity, but after investing in the network modernization they have managed to deal with this problem. So now they provide 3G services using 2100MHz band

T-Mo NL uses the 900Mhz for 2G, 2100Mhz band for 3G, and are in the process of updating to the 900Mhz band for both 2G and 3G. (Should be finished by the end of 2016.) LTE runs on the 1800Mhz band. (I can dream these numbers by now...)

Does the TMo US version even work with AT&T?
Both N900-t and N9005 work in terms of frequency for 2G.
You will probably not be able to use the N900T for 3G once the network upgrade is finished here, as we're going to be using the 900Mhz as the main frequency for 3G. The N900T can't see that one. The 2100Mhz will be serving as a bandwidth increaser, not as the main band.
There's a chance you won't get 4G everywhere on the N9005 when using it in the US, as it can't see the 700/1700/1900/2300Mhz frequency.
And you're going to have to root to get rid of the region lock either way if you want to use both SIMs.
Tmo version 4G will not work with AT&T 4G. I tried with my wife's phone
T-Mobile (US) devices support the same frequencies as AT&T devices. This is coming from experience and from the fact that I've pretty much memorized all the band numbers that carriers use and phones support.
If you want a Note 3 that supports AT&T LTE in the US and HSPA+ in NL, you can either get the AT&T model or the T-Mobile model. The T-Mobile model supports one extra band (1700 MHz HSPA+) that is only used on T-Mobile US (nowhere outside of North America), so it wouldn't make a difference. Just know that it CAN be used on AT&T. The other differences between the two:
1. The T-Mobile version supports Wifi Calling (if used on T-Mobile), AT&T model doesn't.
2. AT&T removes the "Network Mode" menu from the Settings menu (so you can't force EDGE for example).
3. AT&T version has a locked bootloader. T-Mobile version doesn't.
In many instances, although 900 MHz WCDMA/HSPA+ isn't listed, it's supported. I can't confirm it because I'm in the US, and GSM carriers use (total) 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz for WCDMA, not 900 MHz. I think it's just unlisted to discourage people from exporting the US models. The only LTE frequency that North America shares in common with Europe is 2600 MHz, which is supported by the phone. I believe that's only used in urban areas in Europe.
Overall the T-Mobile model is the most open in terms of bootloader and supported frequencies (though either model would work in your case).

I thought I had found a gold-mine here in the United States in the H870DS because it has the quad-DAC and the bands look to be compatible with AT&T and T-mobile. The seller listed band 2 LTE and sadly, according to the box, it is not supported and this is one of AT&T's main bands in my area in California. It still has band 12/17, so, I figured I'd be okay. I cannot for the life of me get it to connect to any LTE though. I've checked and re-checked the APN settings, the network settings (4G preferred) and am out of ideas. Does anyone have this phone and have you successfully gotten it to connect to LTE in the United States? I don't have a T-mobile SIM anymore to try.

I believe AT&T SIMs have issues with LTE on non-AT&T devices until the device IMEI is added into their system.
I am not an AT&T user so I forget the specifics but people often have to call in and have the device IMEI added to their account.. or sometimes this happens automatically after a few hours.

I have searched some of the AT&T user forums, it is because different areas have different coverage and certain bands are not licensed properly, so you might not get any LTE signals. I do not know if that is true. But my G6 sure does not have LTE whatsoever.

The bummer is that now that I know LTE is working, I can 100% confirm that LTE Band 2 is missing. The eBay listings are wrong and the XDA listing is wrong. I've attached a photo of the box. Oh well

I was interested in picking up an 870DS unit myself. I noticed the discrepancy when it comes to band 2. That had me worried, so I did not pick it up. The 870 DS box shows that band 2 is missing. I have to assume that is correct, so I did not buy.
Sorry to hear that i was thinking of picking up the Korean version myself but if I can't get reliable LTE on att no thanks. I wonder if you could return it to the seller since its technically false advertisement
Well this is unfortunate. I just got mine from Ebay today and was wondering why I couldn't get an LTE signal. The seller did list Band 2 so I'm hoping they will refund my purchase or there is a way to edit the radio.
Sorry for the off-topic question but could anyone tell if the H870DS would support 3G simultaneously on both radios (or 4G on one and 3G on the other simultaneously)? If so it would be worth mentioning here as well.

I am using T-Mobile SIM at SIM 1 and my home country carrier's SIM at SIM2.
It is getting LTE at SIM 1 and UMTS (roaming at AT&T network) at SIM 2.
Fi (T-mobile) is working perfectly for me, full LTE. Cricket (At&t) is hspa+ but no LTE.
For the price I am not unhappy even though I usually use cricket as my primary data sim. It's not what I expected but I knew going in I was shooting craps as there just wasn't a ton of information out for this H870DS variant. It's not a huge upgrade over 3t, just needed to switch it up for a while. I am quite enjoying the screen, camera, and HiFi dac without losing my 2 sim setup.
Edit: Sim one does have full LTE while Sim 2 does not.
The references definitely need to show that there is no B2, B17, or B30 for ATT users though, pretty much a let down there.

I actually got Band 4 to connect on AT&T, but it's pretty sparse and not reliable. I switched that line over to T-Mobile and it works perfectly just as you describe.
I like the phone a lot more than I thought I would. It feels so solidly constructed and the camera I really missed from the V20. I prefer this camera to the one on my S8 9 times out of 10. It's a hair slower to focus, but everything else is better for me.
What's odd is that on AT&T Band 12 is supposed to be compatible with Band 17. On T-Mobile, I connect to Band 12 just fine, but not on Cricket. Oh well, my Cricket line has been canceled anyhow

On many Android phones this information will show up after dialing *#*#4636#*#* and tapping "Phone Information" - on the very bottom of this screen you will find a list of available cells including their channel number (called EARFCN for LTE/4G, UARFCN for UMTS/3G and ARFCN for GSM/2G). You can then lookup to which frequency band the EARFCN/UARFCN/ARFCN belongs, e.g. at http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_band.php
Take a look at the 'LTE Discovery' app. The free version will probably have what you need.

I can confirm the lack of LTE on T-Mobile in Southern California as well. Very odd as others are reporting success getting LTE on TMO in other geographic locations. :crying:

As noted on the box as well as other first hand accounts, the H870DS does support both B4 and B12 required for T-Mobile. My G3 and my wife's previous 860N both connect(ed) with B4.
On top of this, I now have a solution to the problem via updating the APN settings. The magic change was simply adding ”xcap” to the APN Type setting and setting the Network Mode for SIM1 to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto radio button.

It's possible that if you're in an area where only T-Mobile B2 or ATT B30 is available then you wouldn't have LTE.
Was finally able to get 4G LTE in AZ on Band 4. Create a new APN with these settings and make sure network is GSM/CDMA/LTE Auto.
Edit: Also, I had AT&T update their system with the IMEI number of this 870DS that I'm using. That might have something to do with it. It took a couple of weeks too.
i have been trying to change the lte bands on my phone for the longest now. i have been following a bunch of tutorials on how to do it but none of them ether hinder nor help mu issue, no matter what i try i dont unlock anymore bands or delete any. i have even tried putting nonsense in the NV section and it dosent remove my current bnads which lead me to believe that for xiaomi phones theirs additional or alternate steps to unlock more bands. has anyone done it before? i need to unlock T-mobile LTE bands
2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 12 (700 MHz)
because my company lycamobile is under tmobile

Network signal guru is the best and only android app that lets you change 2g,3g,4g bands in your rooted device.

i downloaded that before, but i had no idea it was able to change bands i thought it only monitors and tells you what bands your on.
LTE bands depends on your phone hardware
you just can't add any bands
it's hardware dependant i believe

That app doesn't add bands to your device but lets you choose which band do you want to lock among available bands.

Lol, pardon me for misreading the OP
This guide published here should be useful.
It’s not an easy process and there is rooting required, but it will take you through and work for you. You will also need to have your phone rooted before doing it.
All in all, it’s a complex and scary process, and if you’re not used to meddling in your smartphone’s innards, I would recommend staying away from it.
You might end up bricking your phone and losing it altogether.
Also, depending on why you are doing it, some applications of this solution are illegal and might get you in trouble with your carrier.
So just be careful
One more, according to this site, our phone did not even support those frequency which he wanted to work on his phone.

International version of 3S LTE bands support
FDD-LTE 2100 (B1), FDD-LTE 1800 (B3), FDD-LTE 1700/2100 (B4), FDD-LTE 850 (B5), FDD-LTE 2600 (B7), FDD-LTE 900 (B8), FDD-LTE 800 (B20)

if your phone is the International version then it should be unlocked by using the app suggested by Andy Rocks
