Hey guys so I purchased an S5 off of newegg.com for my fiancè as a replacement for her current one and when I got the phone it was stuck in a bootloop. Now the issue is, being as the phone was already bootlooping, I have no way of getting any kind of info about it. I've been trying to use Odin to flash the stock ROMs but I get the HW rev check fail fused 2>binary 1 error. Upon further research of that error I suppose it means that I'm trying to flash a newer ROM with an older bootloader? Or something to that extent. I really dont wanna go thru the hassle of sending it back and waiting around. I will if I have to, but I would rather try and fix it first.

Hi!
I am trying to root my Note 3 N900V but it seems that there wasn't a root for android 5.5. So, I got 4.4.2 after 2 hours of download on SamMobile (its terribly slow) and put it on odin and pressed start. It failed and my phone was bricked. It had a message that the upgrade failed and I needed a Verizon software. I kept trying to do it again but it didn't work. So, I got a Lollipop firmware and tried it out with odin and got all my files back and unbricked it. I did usb-debugging, turned off anti-virus, and did all kinds of things but it isn't working. Could it be the firmware?
Thanks!
You'll want to do some research before going further.
Quick story short, once you're on 4.4 or 5.X, you cannot go back to 4.4.2.
You are also locked out of root likely permanently locked out.
So sad that they lock the bootloader like this...

It is old hat the big cellular providers told them they had to do it google told them they should do it so they did and they don't care what the 1% want when they sell enough handsets to the rest of everyone else that they don't need to keep the 1% same reason why everyone is copying apple it is a form factor that works and now unless you comply you get criticized for it.
I recently carrier unlocked my SM-G935P (2016 version) from Sprint and brought it over to ATT. All was working fine but wanted to get rid of the Sprint bloatware. After spending most of the day reading threads of flashing, felt confident that I could walk through flashing over to "U" FW. This is my first attempt at flashing and it has FAILED!
Used ODIN 3.12 , and files from UPDATO
It failed after first attempt and then was stuck in boot loop
I then realized that I never set the Developer options before flashing
have tried flashing back to half dozen different version stocks, deep clean flash, and various other work arounds I have seen on here to no avail
Only things that have PASS since the initial FAIL have been when I tried various BL individually, but no change in device
I am at the point that I can only access Download screen and ODIN still recognizes. Other option is the device starts to open in Recovery Boot, Installing Software Update comes up, about 10 lines of code start scrolling then phone goes black.
I'm still OFFICIAL, FRP Lock on, warranty void is 0x0 and AP SWREV is B5(2, 1, 1, 1, 1) K1 S4, and Secure Download is Enabled
I'm way past my comfort and capability in trying to get this even back to stock. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated... Finally broke free of the Sprint chains and on the edge of bricking my phone!

With the last ROM I've tried to use, on the device the red text comes up saying SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot] Fused 5 > Binary 2
Is there a different ROM I should be trying?

It sounds like you may have gotten sprint's update, not sure tho. Check your software version by going to about phone. If it ends with something like 5BRA1 (the 5 is whats important as that stands for binary ver. 5) then you might not be able to use the U firmware. You can try the U FW from this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/successful-root-g935u-g935uueu4bqd2-t3598647
If that FW does not work, then you will either have to wait til they update the U FW to binary 5 or see if sprint can reload the OS, I would recommend asking them if they can give you an older version of the OS so you can use the U FW.

I did get the update to 5 unfortunately and am no longer with sprint, paid everything off an account is closed. I did some more digging and realized many mistakes yesterday. I tried the latest 'U' FW (binary 4), it failed, and then I tried the latest 'P' FW (binary 5) right afterwards and it failed... But I didn't cycle the phone in between attempts so of course it was going to fail. Ended up reflashing with the latest 'P', and went through the easy, "just say yes to everything" set up and all the bloatware reloaded onto it. Reflashed and wiped device, and was careful this time... 90% of the bloatware I wanted was gone. Package disabled the rest. Only thing I can't seem to get rid of is the Sprint logos on start up.
After stumbling my way through this first attempt, I'll do better research next time!

Unfortunately, your phone is on the newest firmware, B5. You'll only be able to flash one of the latest sprint firmwares to get your phone to work. All the other carriers and U firmware are still running an older binary boot. You may also need the special version of ODIN...you can probably find it in the same forum about installing the U firmware. But if you download the latest sprint firmware, your phone should boot again.
aHey fellas. So I had my att i545 s4 screen finally break, but I had a backup from cricket first sch r970c. I use straight talk and i just popped in my sim card from cricket into att and it worked. So a couple months later I had the great idea to combine the phones, with the cricket screen. I wanted to know if I could still use straight talk if I put the board from the broken att phone into the cricket s4. And It worked! Skip ahead I forgot the passcode when i upgraded to the s5. Now it is broken and i need my s4 :'( So after resetting, I get the "Firmware has encountered an error when upgrading, and Man, I can NOT get this to work again now. I have used odin for years, and it always fails. Version 3 and a few others version. I have tried everything. Sometimes I get the magisck secure check fail : boot / or recovery / sometimes it says someting about the binary. It will not let me boot into recovery , and i have tried several. tried converthing them from disk to tar. I did the pit files, and the separate pda and boot etc.. nothing will work. Can I please have some help on this one? You guys are the greatest bunch
I'm not sure, but I think the firmware is attached to the board or is specific to the board. This is probably why you're getting an error.
Hey guys, I recently tried to root my phone, went kinda wrong --> my phone got stuck in boot loop. I had to root it correctly to make it work again. Now, I wanted to buy something online but I couldn't bcs that came with the root or something? I got the notification to switch on OEM and something else with USB so, I did, without knowing to turn it off again. After a few weeks, visited another country but didn't got signal and stuff so I thought it would help if I'd put my phone off and back on. Y'all be facepalming right now, for sure. And yeah, I shouldn't have tried to root it in the first place because I had almost no knowledge about any of this so please spare me. Well, as you all know probably, I got the message that my FRP is locked so I tried to unlock it, using forums like these ones and others. They all said the same things but somehow they don't work with me. I downloaded a few Odin version because they all got stuck in SetupConnection or failed. I have downloaded the stock firmware and did everything I should (I think).
I downloaded this firmware:
"https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model/?record=9A306FC2821911E9951FFA163EE8F90B" (I can't post links yet because I'm a new user)
Like I said, I downloaded a few Odin version because I read somewhere that if your device has Android 8.0.0 or higher, your Odin had to be Odin3_v3.13 or higher. So I did, I downloaded 2 higher versions (Odin3_v3.13.1 and Odin3_v3.13.3) but also Odin3_v3.12.3. I tried my firmware on all of them but it keeps saying "FAIL", I know that's because it's not the right firmware but idk which other it could be then...
Also, does that new message I've got have impact on certain things? "SW REV. CHECK FAIL (BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: 4, BINARY: 3
I've spend hours and hours searching for a solution but there's always something in my way. And yes, I downloaded the Samsung USB driver and stuff, I tried the Samsung Switch method but the app doesn't 'support this device'. I've seen guys with the same problem getting send from one link to another to download things, I'm willing to delete all I've already downloaded before if it just works... I feel like apologizing for doing stuff I didn't know much about. Please let me know if I explained something poorly, my head is just everywhere it shouldn't be right now. Thanks in advance.
Phone model: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Version: SM-G935F
Android version 8.0.0 Oreo
My wife's camera stopped working on her phone. I read flashing back to a previous firmware might fix the issue. I thought it was worth a try (and easier) before physically cracking the phone open and examining the hardware. But boy was I sure wrong about that!
I've read so much crap about this within the past few hours my head could explode. But I think the problem is trying to source the correct firmware.
This is a SM-G935V with a snapdragon processor in it according to spec websites.
The baseband version is: G935VVRSBCTC1
I haven't figured out how to find the current PDA version on the phone yet, but when I was trying to flash it with random firmware with Odin, the phone screen gave me error message: Fused 11 > Binary 4
From what I read, I understand that to mean I'm trying to flash binary 4 over 11 and that won't work. The flash only works if the number is greater....or I'm hoping maybe it will work if the number is the same. I would be happy just to flash Android 8.0 at this point in any form just to see if the camera starts working again. I've already tried a factory reset, clearing camera app data and cache, booting into safe mode, and resetting phone settings to fix the camera - nothing worked.
Could anybody please help me figure out my current PDA version on the phone? Or help me source the correct firmware? I'm starting to think it might be easier just to root the phone and install that ONE UI with android 9 or the Lineage OS with Android 10. But I've never rooted a phone before, this is my first attempt at any of this and to be honest this phone is not giving me the confidence I need to attempt the root and new OS. I can't even get the current firmware to reinstall.
Any help would be very appreciated. Like I said, I've stayed up all night and I'm so freaking tired at this point. But I feel like I'm soooooo close.
I have an SD card with Magisk, no-verity-opt-encrypt, and twrp ready to go. I have Odin ready and installed Samsung USB. Do you guys think I should just try another firmware and root the phone? Any links to firmware that don't take 12 hours to download would be appreciated.
UPDATE!
I found the PDA version with that handy "Phone Info *Samsung*" app in the play store.
The PDA version is G935VVRSBCTC1 5TH DIGIT FROM THE RIGHT GIVES US THE FUSED BINARY "B". I guess when they got past the number 9 the switched to Alpha characters. I found some "A" firmwares on Updato.com. But I didn't see any with a "B". So there's a good chance the one's I'm trying to download over 12 hours right now won't work.
I also scrolled over to the "Hardware" section in the phone and it asked for access to the Camera. I gave it access. But now the field is blank/empty. I didn't populate any info on the Camera. I don't know if that means anything just wanted to point that out. Could still be firmware or hardware as far as I know.
Thanks, Derek

UPDATE #2
As you can tell I haven't given up yet. I found my current firmware version for download on a different website:
https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__S7__edge__/b3kj/VZW/G935VVRSBCTC1/G935VVZWBCTC1/"]https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__S7__edge__/b3kj/VZW/G935VVRSBCTC1/G935VVZWBCTC1/
It's another slow download option which really sucks. But I'll be able to test If I can flash the same firmware to the phone (not technically a downgrade and carries the same fused binary). So we shall see. If this doesn't work I'll be looking into the other android 9 or 10 roms and rooting the phone.
Thanks, Derek

TL/DR your full posts but I will cut to the chase on some points. If your phone is SM-G935V (US-Verizon) then you:
1) can NOT root binary B firmware. Binary A (10) yes, B (11) no, at least not until the ENG file becomes available- IF it ever comes. Official S7 support is next to dead.
2) even if you were lucky flashing binary A firmware and successfully rooted, you still would NOT be able to flash ANY custom ROM's such as Lineage. Also, Magisk is useless and will not work on our phones either.
US-spec Snapdragon phones are bootloader locked. There is no workaround. Locked bootloaders prevent flashing custom ROM's, kernels, etc. We are lucky we have root access and it took years just to get that. Bootloader unlocking will never happen for US-spec S7. Much as I love my S7e, if I ever have to replace it I will never get another US "Crapdragon" that you can't do anything with.
I do not know what the issue is with your camera. Maybe other forum members will have ideas. I do wish you luck getting everything back to normal.
Dang! Well thanks for the info! I guess all the videos I've seen with S7's and custom roms have not been done on the US-Verizon phone. What a bummer. Well this was a major learning experience at least.
My only idea now is to crack her open and make sure the camera didn't come unplugged from a drop. I also seen camera replacements were really cheap online. I don't know if it's worth my time....we are due for a phone upgrade anyway.
