Did you put a SIM card in it? If there's no SIM card, it may or may not update over wifi, but it can't update over mobile data.

You'll see that about just about every phone. If you get a dud, or something seems not fixable, it's "the worst phone you've ever had". Then 50 people chime in to say it's the best phone they've ever had.
Just go to Settings and try to update. (Just don't do it more frequently than once every 24 hours, or you'll be told that the phone is up to date.)

Hello evreyone.
I'm having a bit of a problem with my Samsung Omia II I8000.
I just got it from a friend of mine, and for 24 days or so it has been working great!
Really loved the phone untill the next thing happened:
I was playing a game on it, and I suddenley saw my phone didn't have connection with my provider. (Vodafone NL)
From that moment I thought it was strange, so I did a soft reset.
Nothing happend, still no connection, I did a hard reset.
Again, nothing happend, then I did a clean reset, and as you can guess... Still no connection.
I don't know if this sound fammiliar to you, but can you guys please help a man out?
Last thing i'm waiting for is buying a new phone.
Also the other things I tried:
-Opened the case, looking for the antenna wire, but it was still attached.
-Looked for a firmware update by looking at new pc studio, but it had the latest installed.
And somthing diffrent that might help you out, my wifi is working great, I don't now if that matters or not, but just to let you know..
Again: I REALLY,REALLY hope you guys can help me out!
Greetings, Olav

Have you tried either your sim card in a another phone to rule out the fact that your sim card is dead. And also have you tried another sim card in your phone just to verify that its not the sim card?
I will do these two things first before proceeding to do anything else.
I had a similar issue with my phone and was able to solve it by changing the sim card.

i tried it it say no sim card inserted pls help
I have that problem with my G1. Sometimes it recognizes my sim card and sometimes it doesn't, but once it does it keeps working and doesn't think I took out my sim card.
This thread is idiotic.
1) The OP **DID** try it without a simcard in.
2) It *DID* start up and worked just fine (though obviously wouldn't make phone calls).
HE DIDN'T ASK A QUESTION, HE MADE A STATEMENT.
A statement of ZERO value.
And followed it up by ANOTHER statement that has the same value as the first.... when it has no simcard, it says that it has no simcard.... well gee, I wonder why that might be?
how can i fix this?
it is a recently unlocked phone but still doesn't work, it accepted my sim card before but now it isnt working
anyone have any ideas?

In that case, if it where me, I would use The Advanced Ace Hack Kit to root and Super CID your device that will SIM unlock the device permanently, the only proviso is it may erase all your data so make sure it's synced with the Google servers etc., etc

Sorry was offline last night, I would contact your provider and check that your handset isnt blacklisted, if AAHK worked and your sim-unlocked and not blacklisted try flashing a different radio?

I have the same problem as the OP.
Ive used the Ace Hack Kit and it still wont work with my SIM. I contacted my Network provider and they said my IMEI wasn't blacklisted or barred.
Any ideas?

Yes, Not all unlocked phones work with all sim cards. Some carriers lock their sims, so you have to ask for a new sim. The Hack Kit sim unlocks the devices but not the SIM restriction set by the carrier.

Yes, I was just thinking the same. I will with some more research on the subject.
It would be worth trying with a different sim. If one of your mates are on a different network try theirs otherwise pick up a free payg sim. At least you will know if it is the phone or the sim then.

Man, I has a low reputation here, but it isn't because I'm noob. It's because I don't post messages here and there ( I'm just trying to keep threads clean and read threads attentively). But I'm enough experienced in your problem. I'm in judicial process with my local shop now, due to exactly your problem. Forget about bad contacts, IMEI's, locks and other I've tried all means that I could find in the internet since 2011, every! And all of the threads connected with your problem begins with "bad metal contacts/ sim card changes/ locks/ unlocks/ roms/ radiomodules/ flashing etc". But It's just a faulty phone[!/B]. Belive me. All this threads ends with something like "any solutions? somebody? " There is no solution for this from at least 2010 year. Don't waste your time and bring your device back to your retailer if you can. I has evidences and prooflinks, and can give them later. Now, I just suddenly have found your post while serching new info in the internet for TODAYS judicial session. So don't reduce my "Thanks Meter" at least till you ask prooflinks. And I'm "beging" you: "just bring your phone back to retailer"
Added few minutes later:
1) I know that it is a bug in the OS-Hardware-controller_flash junction and we all won't find solution because it is very specific.
Here is the answer of t-mobile service. And the core phrase is "If you've messed around with apn settings or something that'll cause errors to, so try a factory reset just to make 100% sure there's a hardware issue." You do not need to fix so hard bug- they should make appropriate devices.

2) A guy whom t-mobile sent a new phone and admited it was manufacturer's bug

Hi.
I am having a problem with my network connectivity. I get the "Emergency calls only" message in the notification bar and I am unable to make or receive phone calls or messages. Wifi works though. When I restart my phone, I have connectivity for about 30 seconds before it disappears again. I have done a factory reset and upgraded to the marshmallow firmware, but nothing worked. My sim card works in another phone, but with another sim card in my P8, I get the same issues.
I am someone that always tries to fix something before throwing it away, but this repair might just be beyond my skills.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? Any assistance will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

No. I have had it for a few months and it was working perfectly until Friday.
And I also don't have a guarantee, as I am not the first owner of the phone.

I did. I just found out that I have to take my phone for repairs. The sim card reader has apparently gone bad according to the local cellphone shop. But thanks for the assistance anyway.

Have you tried it to update it with a SIM installed?
No I haven't but it's connected to wifi. Once I get a sim, I'll try
Me too, but I am in the USA. I have the exact same verions. I'm just setting up my new XT1687 and when I check for updates, it says your devices software is up to date. I haven't put a SIM in yet because I am trying to get it completely set up before starting to use it. But I thought that you didn't need a SIM card to get android updates.
Hey john, the second I put a sim card in I got updates LOL. Since when do you need to put a sim in to get updates WTF?
Manual flash updated firmware?
you dont need to root or anything for that fyi.

Seems the norm with Moto recently... Especially with US Retail models.
