Do you have a custom recovery to enable you to flash a custom ROM?
I did a quick search on www.github.com and did not find any device specific trees; for an "xt902". Its from a device specific tree that a custom ROM is combined with to build a ROM from source (and the custom recovery). github is normally the place most devs will put code, so that result does not look good for finding a custom ROM.
Can you flash another device? For example, I have an xt905 but flash xt907 ROM's as the difference is in the radio which is not part of the ROM but the firmware. I also remember that at one stage moto's devices where unified so that all msm8960 based phones could flash the same ROM zip.
But all this is useless if you cant find a custom recovery. Or build one from source... but again, you will need a device tree to do all of this.
There are also some "porting" ROM instructions here on XDA. Haven't done it myself, but others appear to have had success. But I also think that was switching from one custom ROM to another. eg https://forum.xda-developers.com/ch...ide-how-to-port-lollipop-marshmallow-t3283452 though you may have some luck porting from an xt907 (ie RAZR M)
good luck.

treid porting end up in cwm error [status 7] i have managed to installed an australian variant official kitkat 4.4 in the mobile using rsdlite but the mobile is giving me "no service" error and yes i had a cwm on a stock jeallybean 201m with temp root

actually, out of interest I searched for your device, and it appears to simply be a Japan variant of an xt907 just as my xt905 is an Australian variant of the xt907. ie same device with different radio bands/frequencies
Have you tried installing TWRP for an xt907? thats what I have (and build) for my xt905. Assuming you are on JBBL, try ==> https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-m/general/twrp-3-1-1-xt907jbbl-t3652141 (nb: flash in bootloader mode)
For further instructions, see the "custom recovery" section of the first post at ==>https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-m/general/guide-faq-how-to-root-boot-unlock-t2869432

I have ROMs in my new thread for the XT907. It's about the only available ROMs I could find that work. ROMs for this device were removed from CM site when Lineage took over. There are no tutorials though. If you are unlocked and on KitKat, you need to downgrade to Jellybean. There is a link in my thread at the bottom that tells you how to downgrade. All the files are available on my Google Drive. Just make sure you follow the instructions to the T.
I can walk you through if you need help. Once you do one, it's easy to do the rest.

Do NOT use any full firmware from any other phone than the one specifically made for your phone! you will lose your modem/signal at the very least (as you have). ie Do not use an xt907 as suggested above, or an xt905's firmware or you will lose your signal (as I think you have)
To get your signal back, reflash / RSDLite your original firmware. This step should get your signal back, and ready to flash a custom recovery (ie TWRP)

If your original firmware is JellyBean, then you will have a JBBL.
After you flash your original firmware, flash a custom recovery ie TWRP JBBL. Then, using this custom recovery flash the custom xt907 ROM of your choice with the same bootloader as yours; again assuming JBBL.

[Q] [Newbie Question] Details about rooting

Hello all, and please help me with some small details before rooting.
I have an LG G2 with stock KITKAT 4.4.2., baseband M8974A-1.0.190084,kernel 3.4.0., build D80220b, software D80220b-219-02.
My questions
- do I need to upgrade stock firmware to D802d or D802f before rooting, and if yes wich is more stable
- is a SIM card needed (as inserted in the phone) for rooting process
- do I need to unlock the phone before rooting since it is locked with my local carrier (TELE 2 HR)
- does a custom ROM automaticly eliminate OTA upgrade and so prevent from bricking, or it must be unchecked manualy
- when installing a custom ROM (probably Cludy G3) do I need to flash a new custom kernel or it doesent mater (probably Bruce if it is compatibile)
- how does one check for compatibility ROM - kernel, is it just simple as finding "stock ROM" - "stock kernel" in the title
- do I need to instal a new KK baseband before custom ROM since I am allready on KITKAT
- do I need to do any kind of factory reset and/or wipe before rooting or later instaling a custom ROM
Thank you very much in advance, I have been searching all over for this simple answers but couldnt find any,
Sorry if the questions are too noobish but I am afraid tostart anything before I find the answers

1. You don't have to upgrade because you can use rooter that is compatible with your current firmware build, the differences between the firmware are only on their features, with less case of minor problem solved from previous build.
2. No, you don't need to put your SIM on.
3. Custom ROMs are meant to give you better performance of the current build, especially if it is Stock Based Custom ROM. Why you shouldn't update via OTA? because with several changes in the custom ROM, Official build will find it different from its official release, which would cause errors that could ended up with bootloop, even worse.. Hopefully, several developers also have their own OTA feature so people can easily get the update.
4. It doesn't matter since Custom ROMs sometimes come with their own suggested kernel that fit with the ROM. But you can also try other kernels if it suits you.
5. Yes, it is quite that simple, but also try to find out whether it is compatible or not with the ROM.
6. No, if you already on KitKat, you don't need to flash KK baseband.
7. Only when you are about to flashing new ROM..

Bootloader and Modem. Why ?

Hi guys,
I see several Roms in the Rom Section that require to flash a new Bootloader and Modem.
I can't find any explanation why this is needed or what it changes.
Afterr flashing those. Is it than necesarry to reflash stock if you want to try another Rom.
Would be glad if someone could please elaborate on this topic a little bit.
Thanks

But before flashing anything make sure your device version is supported by the rom. I am in canada and have a w8 version device, not all roms support this device.
You need a new bootloader and modem, if you are upgrading to marshmallow or adding a custom rom. As the older roms do not support 6.0.1 and custom roms have a base from a different device (usual F series of the international devices). You would then reflash the bootloader and modem for your particular version if recommend by the rom developer to take advantage of certain features like radio (modem), volte if supported. It also depending on where you are reads your sim card and imei correctly.
no you do not need to back to stock to flash another rom just follow the rom developers installation instructions. If you have any questions, it is usually best to post in the rom thread as developer or someone who is very familiar with that particular rom can get the help you need.

Flashing Bootloader and Modem in a Custom rom I9505

hi, im new here. I have a question regarding my galaxy s4 i9505 which is already stated in the title. Im currently using Optimized Cm13 by JDC team which runs in my very old bootloader I9505ZHU and modem. Though i dont have any problems with it, i would still like to update to later version of bootloader like i9505XX that is where the custom rom is based. So is it possible?
Yes.
There is a guide and links to modem files in the S4 General Section.
The guide is by the user Bon_Bon. It's pretty detailed. Though I'm not sure if the modems and bootloaders listed there are the most recent, but they certainly aren't that old either.
Also, you may find that going to the last pages of that thread, users have posted the latest modem/bootloader combo. If not, there's another - older - modem thread that may have them.
Another way to get the latest bootloader and modem on the phone is pretty simple: use TWRP to backup your exiting ROM, flash the latest stock ROM from sammobile.com with Odin, flash TWRP with Odin, and restore backup from TWRP.

Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 - LRX22C.I545VRUGOF1

Hello,
i successfully rooted the Verizon mobile bought online (I didnt know it was coming from US), and Id like get rid of this system.
Can I install any other open source firmware such as old cynagenmod or Lineage?
I found the following https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/jfltevzw/install but not sure it applies to my phone.
Also this article seems interesting, https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/guide-sch-i545-vrugof1-look-t3395833, but not sure If i brick it.
anyone who has already gone through change to Lineage?
Can my bootloader be opened?
thanks
Yes you can. But first you will need a custom recovery. I'm not sure if TWRP works for your model, but you could search it on their website.
After the custom recovery is successfully installed, you can flash ROMs. There's also a separate forum for the Verizon S4 I believe, you may be able to find compatible ROMs and recoveries and more info there.

Did you try it yourself.
unfortunately the bootloader seems locked , so cannot instal TWRP or custom recovery...
All Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T s4 phones have a locked bootloader which means no custom recovery without an unlocked bootloader.
The Verizon forum is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon
does that mean that I cannot install lineage, right?

Note 3 can't get SIM to detect unless flashing stock ROM (various bootloader/modems)

Hi there,
I've been struggling with an Note 3 that for some unknown reason doesn't detected the SIM card unless it's flashed with the stock ROM. The stock ROM doesn't include the bootloader/modem and contains only the OS. I've been asking around on the baseband thread[0] about this but I think this is a broader issue as I can get the phone to work (including SIM detection) with custom bootloader/modem.
Below the steps I've taken so far:
Step 01: Recently I acquired a Note 3 and installed LineageOS 14.1 on it.
Step 02: I noticed that the SIM was not detected by LineageOS and read up on this topic via the usual channels (e.g. reddit, xda forums, LineageOS JIRA). Based on the information I gathered I tested various bootloader/modem settings, especially those other reported as working, but couldn't get LineageOS to detect the SIM with any of these. This is where I signed up to this forum and created my first post describing the situation thus far. [1]
Step 03: After the feedback on this thread I confirmed that the bootloader/modem were flashed correctly. To eliminate any other causes of the firmware being broken by redoing most of the tests with Odin (I've mainly used Heimdall up till that point). Still LineageOS didn't detect my SIM even with combinations that worked for others. [2]
Step 04: To exclude it was an issue specific to LineageOS I installed ~10 other custom ROMS from different groups and using different versions of Android. In all of these the SIM was still not detected. [3]
Step 05: After installing the stock ROM (without the matching bootloader/modem) the Note 3 was suddenly detecting the SIM and I was able to make phone calls. [4]
Step 06: I expressed my confusion about the earlier not working bootloader/modem not working with the other ROMs but that those did work with the stock ROM. [5]
This is where we are now. I don't fully grasp why the stock ROM (which doesn't include bootloader/modem) does detect my SIM whilst all the other custom ROMs don't although they're having the same bootloader/modem binaries that should make it work.
Anyone has experienced this before as well or know what might be the issue?
Thanks!
.san

Where are your getting the stock ROM? As far as I know, roms on sammobile.com, updato.com, and samsung-firmware.org all contain a bootloader and modem with the exception of some 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 ROMs.

[EDIT] Perhaps I'm wrong and this ROM does include the modem and bootloader. In that can I can perhaps (don't know how) extract the modem/bootloader from that and combine it with a custom ROM. But if it doesn't contain these binaries than I'm clueless on what makes the stock ROM detect the SIM where other ROMs don't.

Och that is sloppy... not sure why I found that in the Note 3 ROMs section but I should have double checked. Its still weird that that specific ROM does work with the pre-flashed modem/bootloader whist other ROMs don't, right?
I think I have a complete firmware package (that requires Odin/Heimdall) from sammobile somewhere. I'll double check that one.

That is what I tried to explain in the OP. These bootloader/modem combinations ONLY work with the stock ROM I linked to.
As I said its not a Note 3 stock rom.
Its a custom /ported rom.

That is not a stock ROM, it is custom ROM that doesn't contain a bootloader or modem. You need to flash the latest stock ROM from sammobile.com or updato.com.
I did a quick test with a full stock firmware package from sammobile. Also with this package I get the SIM card detected. The moment I flash, using TWRP, another ROM (just tested a recent LineageOS 14.1 nighty) the SIM card is no longer detected. As far as I'm concerned this excludes the stock firmware from the pile of options and re-affirms my suspicion that it is something related to the ROMs themselves. The Samsung ROMs (either official or ported) do something different than any of the other ROMs... at least on this device.
Its your phone then thats the problem.

Just to confirm but flashing stock ROM, flashing twrp, and flashing a custom ROM gives you the sim problem?

yes. this is weird.
but on the other hand just to know.
did you try different sim's ? may be the issue is related to that particular sim card.
i too have note 3 N-9005. but i never faced this type of situation ever.
my current Bootloader (BL) is N9005XXUGBPH2
Baseband (CP) is N9005DXUGBOK3
Current Rom is AryaMod Note 7 Port 2.1
i have used Ressurection remix, C9 pro upto version 4, magma Nx, Los 14, Arya mod v.9 on this same BL and CP. and NO issues so far.
may be you can try once more with these same settings/files as mine.
1st Flash Stock Rom
2nd Check from Phone Info your current settings in the Firmware tab (backup it's apk now, so that you can install it later without logging in G-services.) screenshot attached. Download the SAME BL & CP and flash it via ODIN.
3rd if it's the same, then go ahead and use TWRP 2.8.7.0 (this version is what i use).
4th now flash any of these roms written above. start with RR as the Rom is lesser in size.
5th (optional) if you want to flash a different kernel too, but flash after rom if the kernel included does not work.
now tell us the results, if the issue is resolved or not.
ONE MORE THING.
this model N9005 does not have LTE Band 40 support so if your network only provide LTE on band 40 like mine does. LTE wont work. Only 2g or 3g will work. and stock rom's 1st option of network is 2g or 3g i think.
HI,
think I'm having the same problem here. Except for me the official 14.1 version is detecting my sim card. All other "unofficial versions" 15.1 &16 are not detecting my SIM card. Any workarounds ?
Ive had the issue to with even the touch wiz variants of arya mod and others I'm in the united states though and I have to do tmo variants of aosp. Im using a emmc brick bug unlocked note 3. I'm on vzw btw. Im worried to do a full flash because ive seen mixed things on doing a full Odin update on the emmc brick bug phones saying it reverses the unlock
