Just recently flashed a friend's phone with Energy Rom. The rom looks amazing and is very well designed. There are just a few issues that he is having and I have not seen anyone else experience these problems in the tread. (Too few posts to post there)
Her camera is not working and I guess her Hotspot gave her a "timed out" message. . . . If anyone else has experienced this, please let me know if you were able to resolve this and how.
Thanks!

Are you on the 4.1.2 update? If so you will need to flash back down to 4.1.1 kernel because the new kernel is not compatible with the 4.1.1 camera

Energy ROM is based off of the the 4.1.1 build, the latest update has the XT907 at 4.1.2. So if her phone was previously on 4.1.2, then flashing this ROM could cause problems as the previous poster mentioned due to the new kernel. Not sure if the developer will update his ROM any time soon (which I loved by the way, and keep checking his thread for any updates),
also, Energy ROM can only be installed via SS right now, and given that the bootloader has been unlocked, I believe that all ROMs will be flashable via TWRP/CWM going forward - thus making SS obsolete for the XT907.
Here's what I suggest though:
unlock bootloader
install TWRP recovery
try out the DeadRage ROM, which is based on the 4.1.2 build: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/17778-romretail-deadrage-v12a-05092013-412-base/
if you really want to stick with Energy ROM with working camera, then you still can:
flash back to stock (4.1.1)
root
install SS
unlock bootloader
install TWRP
install Energy ROM on Slot 1
backup Energy ROM via SS
move Energy ROM to stock slot via SS
backup Energy ROM via TWRP (basically making a nandroid, and this can be installed going forward as a backup)
uninstall SS
Thanks!

Kernel?
Any clue of where I can find just the kernel I need to download and flash?
Sorry for coming across as a newbie, but I am used to other phones that have a bit larger of a community. Thanks again.

no worries - we all were newbies at some point in time.
I have not seen a thread dedicated to the stock 4.1.1 kernel, but I did find this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017200
my advice at this point is to backup your apps/data via TiBu (and then copy that backup folder to your mnt/external1 directory).
so that way, after you pick your ROM, you can re-download your apps from the market (I always recommend doing this as opposed to letting TiBu restore them), then you can use TiBu to restore data ONLY from your apps. I do NOT recommend restore system data though when switching ROMs (however, I do restore WiFi settings and bluetooth pairings).
hope this helps.
All worked out great! I appreciate the help. I ended going with Energy 4.1.1 I have that stupid grateful dead image stuck on first power up due to rage. -Annoying!!

So - I just switched to android after having ALL the iPhone's since the 3G. I also have the ATT US SGH-i337. So far, have not missed the iPhone after a month...at all.
I do have a couple noob questions...I rooted and installed TWRP with that casual installer that you mentioned (did that less than a week after having my phone, where I never jailbroke any of my iPhone...I traded the 5 for my SG4). I was waiting for the GE Rom to come out and just flashed that yesterday with this one version 1.2 at the time:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341376
So, I thought I'd get closer to 12-13GB available storage after switching because of all the bloatware...but I only got an extra 500MB or so. Second, I don't know how to mount my SD card to move picture or have the gallery view pictures that are already on it.
Thoughts?
Thanks for being so helpful!
It should have auto mounted the extsdcard, so you can not see the sdcard within the google os? when you were on the stock rom, did it see it ok? What size is the sdcard?
Also, as far as space, you are not going to see any more than 12gig, give or take a gig, samsung allocated 4gig, depending on if you have the 16gig version device. And that is with any rom you flash, I may be wrong, but I have not seen anywhere where we can grab back some of that space.

Now this is a real good question. I do not have the answer to that, but hopefully someone will come along and have an answer. I do not have that device, but I bet it would work.
Afaik there is not a way to get a custom recovery on the Active. You'd need that before you could flash the rom.

since you are apparently unlocked and rooted,
>make a backup in custom recovery

>reboot. let device boot up fully and sit for a few minutes. reboot and set it up.
The new camera in the ROM will only save to internal storage, unlike the previous camera Google used in older versions of Android. I have a 16 GB S4 with a 32GB SD card, so saving to the SD is very useful. Is there any way to force it to save pictures to the external?

If you are stuck on the boot screen after flashing the ROM and rebooting, go into the recovery and wipe the cache partition and dalvik cache partition 5 times then reboot. Every reboot after this should be fine.

I just pulled the GalleryGoogle.apk out of the 4.3 ROM and put it into my 4.2, and it still doesn't have the option to save pictures to the external SD. It might be something built into the 4.3 ROM, but since it apparently can't be rooted at the moment, I guess I'll just have to be patient in order to find out.

i am unable to find an answer to this, i have a galaxy s4 i337m from rogers
i used cf-auto root to root,
then used the one click tool to install CWM Touch 6.0.3.2
and then in recovery did a full wipe and reset
and installed [ROM] Google Edition 4.2.2 [Clean][Slim][280MB][2013.09.07]
everything is working well (great)
but free space was only just under 9 gigs, i thought google edition phone has over 12gb of available space, is this normal, is there something i can
do to get more space, did i miss something?
please don't recommend sd card as i already have one, i am just concerned where is my phone memory going?
That's how the S4 is partitioned. User-accessible amounts are not rom dependant. Cheers

Hey,
I previously installed Slimbean on my Galaxy S4 (jfltexx) 16GB. I was wondering why I only have about 9GB space left on my internal storage. So I googled the issue and found out that the Samsung Firmware needs that much space. So since I use Slimbean, why is there still only about 9GB free storage?
Are these old remains of the Samsung Firmware? And if yes how can I delete them so I get more storage?
thx in advance

The internal storage is partitioned but the partitions are not altered when you flash a different ROM. And so thats why you don't gain any extra space when flashing a smaller ROM like CM or slimbean.
You would have to flash an altered PIT file to change the space allocation like the discussion in the below thread. The risk of seriously messing up your ohone is high though and this also relates to the i9500 so it can't be used on a i9505

Definitely, you can pick up 32gb cards pretty cheaply now.
Also might be worth checking out this too, pretty useful.

You can buy models with bigger internal storage like GT-I9500, SHV-E300K/L/S or SGH-N045.

I simply use Foldermount from Play Store to move game data to the external SD. Since some games use 1.5GB+, this really makes a difference. The smaller files remain internal.
You can also mount the external SD as internal, then Android thinks the external one is the built-in. There are some flashable ZIPs in the development forums IIRC. Then you have the full-blown solution

Hi guys!
My girlfriend is sad user of j5 2015 (6.0.1 stock unrooted) - she have a problem with storage. Well, she just had started playing Hearthstone and she wanted to keep this game on her phone, but unfortunately after clearing everything this game absorbs almost every MB on phone. Even moving this on SD card isn't helping anymore.
Have you guys any tips to me how can i help her? Is there any rom that is very, very light and unbuggy? Like you know... Phone and camera working (selfie girl, you know...).

It would be easier to just root it, and than put every single app to SD Card, unbloat the phone and that is it. I had the same problem, i was having about 400 mb of free storage before root, and now when i am rooted i have 2.5 gb free even though i have a lot of apps. ( Instagram itself is almost 500 mb )
And yes, after you root you can use SD Maid which will help you maintain the storage free. Cheers!

You can flash TWRP, wipe system, data, dalvik etc. Then flash stock 5.1 through ODIN. Then you can flash any light ROM made for Lollipop.
(See ROM Section)
So you guys are telling me that I can easily downgrade to 5.1.1 without any problems? Thats good tip for me.
Also to root this one i need to flash twrp through odin and next flash superSU right?
I'm very thankful guys for help

Although possible, my last experience with a Samsung led me to not try to downgrade. The phone never worked again. Not all phones can be downgrade, and not all firmware. In many cases the possibility of going back is blocked by manufacturers. And maybe in a firmware you can do it and in a newer one you can not.
Many people say that you can do it, so far there has not been a brick case in these models, but that could change in the future. Go carefully.
