my bad, onLed is for Amoled display only. You can try kingroot, and let us know if you are able to root it.

It works but just keeps screen on slightly

It could be possible once we got root permission.

Good screen basically has 160 degree view angle. If you tilt your screen and notice any loss of colors, whites getting blown, or see blacks getting reflective you have a bad screen.
or if you are rooted, check if you have the LCD-SO-C2 display instead of the LCD-SH-C2

how do i do that?
Another couple ways are:
1. Put the WiFi calling shortcut on the desktop. Tilt the phone around and see if the you still discern the white lines in the blue logo. If they blend together (and the blue starts turning green) that's probably a bad display.
2. Open the market and pull up downloads. As you tilt the screen, look at the company names beneath the application names, as well as the lines that separate the applications. If the names disappear and the lines disappear (or go "negative"), then it's a bad display.
Of course, "bad" is relative, and if you think it's great then keep it and enjoy.
or if you are rooted, check if you have the LCD-SO-C2 display instead of the LCD-SH-C2
how do i check this? is there a app for this? seems like the easiest way
See the pictures on this thread and find out the difference between the two. It aint that hard to diffrenciate the two...

hold down volume down and power, then select system info
So i called tmobile for replacement bec of bad screen and they are sending me another phone. The most important part i noticed was that when the rep said "i wonder why this phone is having screen issues" so tmobil know about it. Just wanted to put this out there for other people know. I hope my new phone is good haha
LCD-SH-C2 thats the one i have is that the bad one?
it looks good to me
Please post questions in the Q&A section.
I got my phone with a contract from radio shack, so is it possible to still get a replacement sent to me? Let me know guys. I have the receipt and box and all original contents.

question about AMOLED screen...

so as far as i understand, true black on our screen is turning the pixel off. i've heard that you can get something like a status light that will use only a couple of pixels from the screen to notify in other colors then the LEDs red and blue. what i was wondering is if there is a program or if it would even be possible to have a program that would pop up texts on the screen in the same way. so that instead of turning the whole screen on just the lines of text appear.

I found an app that was supposed to do what you're wanting
However, I found it back when I was running Eclair and it didn't seem to work, never tried it on 2.2. I'll dig around and look for it. I'll let you know the name once I find it.
*Update: Alright found it, it's NoLed on the market place

Doubtful, and you're probably better off just installing the AOSP messaging app and using the black theme.
I do think it is an awesome idea though.
Wht you guys want is noled. There is a thread in th i9000 forums. Only thing is it doesn't play well with text message popups. Or widgetlocker.

Again, that's not what the OP is asking for.
If you'd like an option for the sms stuff, I'd send an email to the guy who makes NoLed. He seems pretty cool.
As far as the pixels being off for black on SAMOLED, I can see a slight amount of light if I'm in a dark room and my phone is displaying a pure black image.
So, does it really turn pixels off, or does it just cause them to get really (really!) dim.
this would be an awesome capability!

might be the light from the active pixels filtering through the glass.... look at when you boot the phone and the samsung logo pops up before the sprint and galaxy S boot screens... it seems to me that the rest of the screen is completely off.. if it would save a bit of battery when my sms pop up comes on i'd be happy with it. plus it would look sick

There is definitely some light when the screen is showing black in a dark room. And it isn't there when the screen is off/timed-out. I also thought the pixels were off when they are black.
One thing I noticed with NoLed is that it keeps the screen from actually sleeping. It keeps it black but on so it can display the dots. If black really isn't off, then how much power does that use, I wonder.
Lol @ OP ... It's called a verizon samsung continuum....
Seriously, they just emulated the normal 4 android buttons and had a larger screen. It's probably possible, but it would be a little hacky to get it working.

Samsung Galaxy S II 2 startup video

Hey guys check this video out, it has the samsung logo on the galaxy s ii!
It must be the retail version!
Nice! Thanx dude!
So smooth and fast
it's so smooth even with that power hungry live wallpaper
And what a screen O.O
Man, I really want this phone but can I really wait that long? Hurry it up Samsung!!!
Did anyone else see something blink on the top of the phone (above the logo to the left) at 0:18? Is that a notification LED?!?

Yeah was the only thing that came in my mind but golf gave the good reason because it's the same color.
Fast boot-up. I like it.
Most cheap cameras (anything under semi-pro) don't have IR filters, so the IR proximity LED (the reflection of which is detected by a sensor next to the LED when the phone is next to your ear) shows up as a purple-white light in stills or video.
You will see the same effect if you point your phone's camera (or most consumer video cameras or non-DSLR still cameras) at your TV remote and press a button.
You will not be able to see anything with the naked eye.

[Q] Do I have a broken notification led? :(

It doesn't work. No matter what app I try it just doesn't go off. There is also no display option to turn the led on or off.
Anyone familiar with this?
Using stock 4.3? Download lightflow from play store and it'll work.

Then why are you asking if you have a broken LED? It wouldn't make a difference if it lights up or not if you thought the feature was useless. I personally like it. Comes in handy when I'm not in my room and leave my phone there and then come back to see the LED blinking.

Im having this issue, but mine hasn't worked since cyanogenmod a couple months back, on carbon or PA it didn't work. Now on 4.3 and doesn't work. Though on Carbon the charging notification still worked when plugged in but lightflow or other apps didn't.

The feature is really useful if you put in a bright led, one that a normal human can see when there is even the slightest hint of light. Not one that only works in total darkness.

That's it. There was no way to swap the functions of the keys on my previous phone. I could just turn it on or off. It was useful when you had a blackout and had to look which button does what ^^
Anyway, it was more a nice to have than a must have feature. I probably wouldn't use the back lighting as it sometimes even was brighter than the phone screen.
Or just annoying while watching videos or something.

I'd have preferred it if the backlight was always on when the screen is on, but not a big deal if it's off. I liked the backlights of my Nexus S, they weren't too bright.
