Hey,
can anyone tell me, if it's somehow related to the new app version Google Camera 4.4.020.163412804, that nearly every time i quit the app, it force closes? Sometimes when I switch to front cam, too.
Thanks!
Having the same issue. Tried reinstalling, erasing data but nothing fixed it.
Nexus 6P
LineageOS 14.1 latest nightly
Franco Kernel r55
its gapps related. are you on open gapps? if so, try beans gapps. fixed the issue for me on du 11.7.
also do you have any mods installed, like arise sound?
Issue present on opengapps package. Beans gapps doesn't crash. Tested it myself with arise mods and others
I wrote regarding with this issue in thread Google Camera keep stopping when switching to front camera after Nougat 7.1.2 update. Best answer in thread I got is to force app stop and clear cache and with restart in safe mode. In several occasions front camera again showed up and again crashed after couple of days of use. I think that is hardware related issue, lot of people complained of front camera switching crash. I've noticed that my front camera crashes when switching camera in low light conditions. Maybe some aperture or light sensor problem.
Anyway, i bought front camera module on eBay and I will replace camera in service.
I'll let you know of result.
Anyone with same impressions and experience?

On the stock 8.0 ROM? No. Wipe data and restart. Uninstall/reinstall. No issues on 2 N6P devices.
EDIT: If that doesn't work, try wiping the cache partition and dalvik cache

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue on the N10 as well or if I just got a fluke.
Front / Back camera worked for first 5 minutes out of the box. After going to a different application and trying to get back to camera, camera app fails to connect. Restart tablet, same problem. Force close gallery/camera app, wipe data/cache for the app and re-open. Same error, camera no longer displays at all.
Factory reset, camera works for a few minutes, try to open it again after leaving, crashes the same way. No third party apps can access camera either. Tried many factory resets, even with only gApps installed same camera prob.
Waiting for RMA now, but has anyone else run into this or something similar? :crying:

I had this exact problem on my galaxy nexus. I finally pinned it down to an app that controlled the LED (like a flashlight, or torch app). I removed it and it worked fine after that.
Yup looks to be a 3rd party app since it works after factory reset. I would reset it again but choose not to have it reinstall the apps automatically. Then just do the process of elimination until you find the problomatic app. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the advice but I've factory reset multiple times and have only gApps installed, same thing happens
I'm having the same problem, both front and back camera are not working properly. I'll try factory reset later this day.
Do you have the cameras working already?
I'm having the same issue too. Today's the first day with my Nexus 10, and right out of the box the Camera doesn't work. Never loaded even once.
Has anyone else had this issue and was able to fix it?
Same problem here! Do you think rooting and flashing CM might solve the issue?
Same here. It seems its only the stock camera tho. I installed 2 different cameras from Play Store & both those work perfect. Camera ICS+ & HDR+ both worked for me.

I tried these apps but it's still not working for me. Hope it's not hardware related. It worked the first day I had my nexus.
EDIT: Installing CyanogenMod solved the issue =)
EDIT 2: Well it actually solved it for just a day or two, now it's back!
I'm also having this issue too it seems. Created a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251337 and thought it was related to my rooting of the tablet since it worked okay before I tried that. Currently on 4.2.0 stock and OEM locked and the issues is still there, starting to think it's a hardware issue.

Definitely a hardware issue. I did an RMA with Google ...the new device they sent me has no issues.
Try that if your device is still under warranty! Google is pretty good at getting replacements sent to you within a week!
Turns out it wasn't a hardware issues, the problem I was having was apparently related to the sync of contacts which for some reason completely disabled the camera until such a time as the contacts were synced.
My Nexus 10's camera is not working - t goes into the app and all I see is a gray screen. For a while I had an exchange server configured that disabled my camera, so I'm wondering if this could be a residual setting due to that. I performed a factory reset, but to no avail.
Is there a way to perform a harder reset, so that all system files and setting are wiped out?
(I once heard that the build.prop is not overwritten on a factory reset).
Thanks.
Have you tried a different version of Gapps? I had something similar, where the camera would take a minute to startup completely.
Do other camera apps work? Try a free one from the Play Store.

Nope, I don't think it's a delay. It just doesn't work, even with a 3rd party app I used to use on my phone.
Very strange indeed. Maybe you could reflash the stock ROM. I think the factory reset might not clear the system data for apps. Just a guess though. Beyond that I'm at a loss. Sorry.

Correct. If the problem is in the /system partition, a factory reset will never touch it.
camera hang
I got a refurbished N10 a few days ago, I did a stock 4.4. flash and the camera initially was black, then after a few goes it would work for a few seconds then become non-responsive, had to a hard reboot once.
Is this a dud unit I got or a problem others have? Remember - stock 4.4 no special kernel etc. I did have a special kernel but I flashed back to stock in trying to fix the problem but nada.

Similar issue. Completely stock N10 on 4.4. Camera works fine after boot but a day or two later it is exhibiting this issue of only showing a completely black screen on the default camera app. Same thing with any other app that uses the camera: blackness. And again a reboot rectifies it for a while. Anyone know what is going on with the camera on 4.4?
I happened to have the same issue (but my camera crashed and notified me), and when I searched for it I got this massive thread on Google's product forum. Guess any Nexus device has a chance of having cam boot issues: https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/nexus/z47YrU5rxrc

Hi, like many others I also have problem with camera on my S5(G900F). Reboot helps in my case, but after a couple of hours camera stops working. Is there any way to fix that maybe using shell or something else, just without rebooting? Thanks
Tried clearing data/cache for the camera app?

Yes, but with no success
Do a clean wipe cache from recovery n see if ur occurring the problem continuously
Seems that Viber cause the problem. They fixed that in latest update. After updating everything is ok with camera..
I was experiencing same issue, camera was just black with no response and when this happened phone was getting hot and one core of CPU was always at full speed, thus battery was draining way too fast.
I noticed that it has stopped doing that lately, I'm also viber user, so it might be related to the update, anyway I'm happy that it finally is fixed :good:
Hi,
I have a Galaxy S4 I9505 device. I am running the Imperium ROM 7.0 (i.e. Lollipop).
All this time the Camera application was working just fine. But now from some days when ever i open up the Camera application (Rear Camera) i noticed that the screen showed up Green lines on the screen and then the camera application stopped functioning. The app just used to hang and do absolutely nothing.
And now when I open the camera application the screen is completely dark showing absolutely nothing and doing absolutely nothing.
Solutions that I have tried are as follows:
1. I cleared all the Camera Application cache and it did not help.
2. I Cleared Cache and Dalvik Cache but even that did not help.
3. Tried 2 different ROMS, a. Stock ROM and b. AOSP ROM and found the same camera behaviour.
The front camera is working absolutely fine though.
Any suggestions? I now believe that the Camera Module is dead.
If so has anyone of you replaced your camera module, and would you mind sharing your success story?
Thanks
Seeing a few posts like this
There are quite a few posts like this recently. I tried swapping for a known good camera module and it did not fix my problem. Either this is related to some type of software update from google, or our motherboards are going bad.
Curious if anyone has a fix or reason why this is happening. I'm rooted and have run a few ROMs and the google camera almost constantly fc. I've run chroma, pure nexus, du, ect and sometimes I get it to work but it seems lately it will not connect. Not sure why or what's making it happen. Wondering if anyone has some ideas or whatever on what's going on ...thanks

What ROM are you currently running? I'm on Chroma and whilst I haven't directly experienced that issue yet (fingers crossed I don't), i did see in the thread at some point, someone did experience the same 'camera cannot connect' issue. The solution was to:
1. Uninstall the camera app, and then
2. In recovery, Flash the new Google Camera zip (pulled from Stock N6P factory image) - available on the first post of the Chroma ROM page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-chroma-11-08-2015-lockscreen-navbar-t3244444).
If you're not sure on how to uninstall system apps (your current offending camera app):
1. Get Titanium Backup (if you don't have it already) and
2. Go to Batch Actions and then "uninstall system apps" within Titanium Backup.
3. Deselect all (just to be safe).
4. Find the camera app, and run uninstall action.
Now you can Reboot into recovery and then flash that zip mentioned above.
If all else fails, you might need to restore factory image and start again... which blows if you have a tonne of apps.
Good luck!
^^^ I was running chroma a few hrs ago. Then tried candysix and du. All of which the camera app closes. Now I'm on aosip lololol. Ridiculous. I have camera fv5. For some reason that works but google camera doesn't. I have tried the chroma camera zip as well. No go. I'm at a loss. I've tried everything minus reflashing stock and starting over again. I had it working days ago although I would get a fc and found if I switched to front facing cam to rear cam it stopped the fc, but now I can't even do that
