For Solid Explorer, go to its App Info Page. Look for Install Unknown Apps, set to Allow.

Cannot find this: a screenshot please?
Settings>App &Notifications>App Info
Look for Solid Explorer on the list.

Yes, this I know, but under Solid Explorer info I cannot find the "Install Unknown Apps" option, not even under Advanced.
This has changed in Android 8: has moved from system wide to app specific, so i believe the developer has to update app by adding a subscription to the service.

I don't know what's wrong with the app you have but mine has the option.

very very strange!!!! I have the same version...
did you install from scractch or from OTA?
tried uninstalling and installing again and clearing cache, to no avail...
Are you using the " App Viewer " on Solid Explorer, or the Package Installer?
Also, are you missing that entire option in the screenshot above?
"Are you using the " App Viewer " on Solid Explorer, or the Package Installer?"
What do you mean?
Under ADVANCED I only have "modify System Settings" and missing "Install Unknown Apps"
Ok problem solved... This was tricky...
I opened SE, selected an APK by long press, then OPEN WITH and I got a choice between APP VIEWR and PACKAGE INSTALLER, chose PACKAGE INSTALLER and got prompted to enable unknown cources for SE, enabled it and now option is there...
Thanks

Hiya - I have the Desire and just got Wildfire for daughter - she is delighted-me less so as we have switched from PAYG to contract and I do NOT want her to go over her minutes, so have tried in vain to get the Mobile Account Checker from the Android Market. It shows up on my phone on the market, but not on hers! I tried scanning the barcode thing with her phone - not available. Tried with mine and bingo it is there. Any clues? I have it installed on my phone, but really need it for her!

Did you try to install via the website with Fastinstall installed and activated?
Just syncing with appbrain doesn't work.
1. download and install appbrain from market
2. download, install, and open fast web install from market
3. follow on screen instructions to let fast web install integrate into appbrain
4. visit www.appbrain.com search for your application and hit the "install" button on the appbrain website

}
5. the application should then be magically pushed to your htc wildfire,
if not: check that wifi or 3g is enabled. if it still doesn't work, try "manage my apps" -> "sync with appbrain" in the appbrain application and wait a few seconds
Sync doesn't work since it opens the market page or tries to.
i guess you're mixing it with "perform installs"
i noticed that sometimes i click install on the website, but nothing happens. even when wifi is enabled ... so i did the steps @ #5 and it worked then ... just a personal workaround. nothing official
i found a topic at g4 tattoo

like simulate screen resolution higher.
but it need root first.
i m not sure how to do root on g8.
maybe anyone who already root can try it out.

Auto update with wifi on combined with cm7 hboot causes a restart if you have much apps that is going to be updated. Probably because of high data write velocity and small cache.

Use your third party launcher (AWD, Go Launcher, etc.) to change the wallpaper on your device. Don’t let the device go to sleep yet, it will change your wallpaper.
You may use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer
Go to your data/data/com.android.settings/files.
Inside the files directory, long tap wallpaper and change permissions.

}
Now apply the settings.
Your wallpaper will not be changed by the device.
Select your favorite wallpaper on your Launcher and BOOM.
Please press the thanks button if I helped.

This will work until amazon sends another update that breaks root if on stock rom. After, you'll have to do these steps again after re rooting.

This shouldn't be in development, it should go in general.
For some reason I'm not able to get to the data/data/com.android.settings/files point. It should be easy to get to, but it's not.
I'll keep looking. I'm fairly new to all of this.
I found this in another thread...
1- browse to "/data/data/com.android.settings/files"
2- change "wallpaper" permissions to be writable
(in ES file explorer: if the directory is empty make sure you checked "root explorer" and "mount file system" in the settings)
Unfortunately it would not allow me to make these changes.
This is my guide for changing and keeping wallpapers on rooted stock with any launcher...
Step 1: change your wallpaper to what you want it to be.
Step 2: hurry to your computer (without turning your fire off).
Step 3: connect your fire to your PC.
Step 4: go into KFU and go into extras, then choose lock wallpaper.
Step 5: you are done! Good luck.
Is "KFU" Kindle Fire Updates? If it is, I don't even have an "extras" folder.
KFU is Kindle Fire Utility, you can download it in the development thread of this forum

Temporary insanity. I knew that.
Hi I ran into this issue before but I forget how I fixed it. I thought it was from not having enough free space on internal/external SD cards but I cleaned it up a little and it didn't seem to fix it. I also tried force closing, clearing data/cache for app, uninstalling, reinstalled it, and activated as a device administrator successfully but it doesn't open/work with Tasker.

I had problems with SS when I was using the helper app. But after using Helper Alternative under the SS Helper Tab everything works as it should. I believe it installed SS as a system app so you don't need the Helper app.

Thanks for the response! It's fixed now by using ROM Toolbox Pro's app manager to convert it to a system app and then had to restart the phone
Had to do it before after restoring from a backup and it just slipped my mind
No need to use Ron Toolbox. Just go to the SS app, go to the helper tab and click Alternative Helper. SS will do the rest.

Oh! Missed that part. Let us know if installing it as system app works then.
Edit: See that it solved it. Good
I tried all the above solutions and still not fixed, Secure Settings keeps crashing before start.

Original thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048668
Requirements:
Xposed framework
XMultiwindowMod
This will be a long post so follow what i do on your phone as u read on!
First go here and download this Xposed installer:
http://dl-count.xposed.info/modules/de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v25_36cbbc.apk
Open the app and go to Framework > Install/Update > Soft reboot
Let the phone reboot
Now open Xposed > Download > Search > XMultiwindow Mod > Scroll down and click Download > Install app after download
Now go back to "Modules" at Xposed Installer app and tick XMultiwindow then reboot your device
Now open XMultiwindow > Sidebar settings > Sidebar app settings > Add > add the apps you would like to use in Multiwindow
DO NOT OPEN GAMES IN MULTIWINDOW
Click to collapse
Now after you have selected your apps adjust the sidebar width. I recommend 50%. Go back and click "Open SideBar"
Now slide from left to right BOOM! you should see sidebar click on the app you want to be on multiwindow and select " Up workspace " Choose another app and select "Down workspace" Slide from left to right again and you should see your multiwindow!
Thank a lot

I use it daily on my S4 Mini with stock JB 4.2.2 ROM, rooted. Works great! For example, when playing music, I like to have GoneMAD Music Player in upper half screen with ES File Explorer showing song files in bottom half screen:
