Tab 4 Sprint SM-T237P: unlocked bootloader? - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just obtained an inexpensive Sprint T237 (SM-T237P), and did a bunch of searching here (and elsewhere, but here is the best, of course!). Found that there is a root exploit, which is awesome.
However, I didn't find a definitive answer to the current status of Sprint's bootloader.
Anyone know for certain if the bootloader is locked or not?
Edit: Running 4.4.2 with OTA updates disabled.

Bump. Anyone? If there's a way to tell from the ADB shell, that would work!
I don't want to upgrade to 5.1.1 (in order to use the root exploit) then find out that the upgrade process locks the bootloader down permanently.
Thanks in advance,
Cap

Auto root i9506 locked bootloader

Hey guys, I have had limited experience with rooting. I have been looking for a way to root my i9506 without flashing it. I came across chain fires auto root. The only problem with this is that it says it can brick devices that are have a locked bootloader . I've tried to do some research on that but have yet to find a way that tells me if my i9506 is locked. Is anyone able to provide some extra info on how I check it?

It's not locked. Just go ahead and flash it.
OK thanks for the info, but how do you tell?
The only way to tell would be when you attempted to replace the bootloader, as the device would throw up a warning about tampering. However, unless you live in the United States and have a device from AT&T or Verizon, you have nothing to worry about. It's only the United States that has to worry about locked bootloaders and anti-competitive practices from the carriers who lock them.

Samsung Galaxy J3 SM-J320VPP Root help

Hi, and thanks for reading. i would like to know if theres a way of rooting the celphone Samsung Galaxy J3 SM-J320VPP. ive see Threads on sucefully rooting others models but not this one
I agree any dev out there want to let me know what you might possibly need in order to begin to exploit the boot loader. I know that the Samsung n4 fix is for a different chipset but there has to be a way to bypass Verizon's DMV so I can dump the boot loader and system and upload it for the community. I really really like this phone for its price point and I don't feel like that it should be let to the side because it's not a flagship. I'm not a dev but I'm also not new to the capabilities of this community. Any Assistance would be great
My issue is somewhat different, I have a banking app that reports my J3 as rooted (no other apps do) and I need a way to reverse or work around this flaw. The banking app does state for Galaxy S5 model that Android 6 Marshmallow is needed and I know I'm only on 5.1.1, but I'm not sure if the kernel and baseband used are the same.
Any help or advice appreciated. Or if I can root, update to 6 and then unroot to resolve this.
Any news? Just bought this phone on Verizon
No rooting so far. Kingo- and Kingroot APKs and PC versions fail to root, no custom recovery to flash SuperSU, and no vulnerabilities to exploit. I've had this phone for about 5 months now, and nothing sticks. But that's the way it goes with Verizon- branded devices - because the boot loader is locked there isn't much that can be done. The most I've been able to do is "convert" it to a SM-J320V by flashing that firmware via Odin. Still can't use non-Verizon SIMs though.

Does converting it allow you to use Verizon MVNO Sims without paying the ransom for a month of verizon prepaid service first to activate the phone ? I know you said no non Verizon sims but nkt sure if you meant MVNO too

6gb RAM model and Rooting question...?

Hi Friends,
Very quick and simple question:
Is there a way to Root (and maybe Unroot) the 6gb RAM model WITHOUT unlocking the Bootloader?
I only ask because unlocking the Bootloader voids the ZTE 2 year warranty, and there is no way to reverse/relock it, correct?
Thanks for your responses!
Read the root without unlock thread and the newbie unlocking guide.
Thanks bud, so looks like it is possible to root without Bootloader unlock? How about going back to stock after root?
@lafester or some other helpful member, can you please link me to the pertinent thread that I could use to root the ENHANCED (6gb RAM model in the US)? Preferably, I'd like to root with the Bootloader unlocked too, ONLY if there is a way to return to complete stock, including relocking the Bootloader.
Simply speaking, I want to order the phone and try it, but am not sure if I'd be able to live with the camera performance and etc... I'd like to be to root and unlock Bootloader, if I can, but if I don't keep the phone, I'd like to return to complete stock. Can someone help? Thanks!
I gave you the threads already.
@lafester I am sorry bud, but I didn't see any links in your post. Also, any chance you could simply answer my question, if you have the knowledge ? Would deeply appreciate it. Thanks!

[Q] Root AT&T’s S5 Active SM-G870A for use in Germany?!

Hi there,
I would love to buy a S5 Active in the U.S. an use it in Germany. Since it is looked to AT&T which we don't have in Germany, I want to root it.
For the past 2 days I did some research in this forum. It turned out that it's more complicated than I thought.
My English is not that good, so before I actually buy a phone I want to make sure that I understood everything... more or less.
So, if I get my hands on a phone with 4.4. or 5.0 on it, there is no problem to root it because there is no blocked bootloader, right?
I don't know though which ROM I should use in that case? Which one runs best on the S5 Active?
If the phone is running on 5.1. there is the problem with the locked bootloader, right? In that case I use this guide?
If I get a phone that is running on 6.0 or 6.1 I need to downgrade to 5.0 or 5.1 using this guide and the just do one of the two steps above accordingly?
Does that mean it doesn't matter if the phone I buy runs on 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1? Can I root in anyway?
Thanks heaps for your help!
Cheers Sam
you dont need to root it for international use. If its not bound to a contract with at&t anymore, then youd just need to contact at&t to have them unlock it for international use. if youre worried about the cost to call at&t, just get the textnow app, get a usa phone number and call them via the app over wifi for absolutely no cost. or, if your worried about your english being a barrier, go to idoneapps.com and they can unlock it for you for $35. I unlocked 2 G900P (sprint S5) with them.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Well, I also though about just getting a unlocked one or to unlock a locked one. BUT then I have all those atnt Apps that I can't uninstall.
So I figured, the only way to get rid of them is to root the device right?
Cheers, Sam

youre correct, those specific apps do require root to remove. Then youd want something like Titanium backup to get that job done
I havent found anything so far that will show me how to root a G870A ACTIVE on 5.0 (OF3) all these links go to methods that show how to do it on a G900 (non active) if anyone can point me in a direction that would work i would much appreciate it.

i think the bootloader is still locked on that device. Not getting much love from devs either. Not sure there is a solution for this, sorry good sir
Well I received the SM-G780A today. It is not locked to AT&T anymore so I can actually use it without rooting it.
However the preloaded apps are just a pain. So I am thinking about rooting it anyway.
The Android Version is 5.0 and the Kernel Version 3.4.0-4443965. Do I understood it right that the bootloader is not locked in Androit 5.0 yet?
What's the best way to root it and is there any chance to get a rooted Android 6 running on it?
Cheers Sam

Is there no way i could root my Galaxy note edge At&t model????

I've been waiting for a long time for someone to make it possible to root Note edge at&t model i can't find any way to root or unlock bootloader there's no custom rom for it i'd really appreciate if someone comes out with a way
if you find a way, let us know
KingoRoot can root a SM-N915A running Kitkat but nothing higher than that (and may add ads and spyware to your phone -- there is another app called KingRoot which seems nefarious, KingoRoot does not generate as much negative posts). The newest stock ROM available is 6.0.1 (have never found a compatible custom ROM).
You would think that AT&T would allow us to unlock the bootloader since they are no longer supporting the phone but apparently they just don't care, especially for those of us who have them unlocked from the network and running on other networks (mine is T-mobile).
If you find a solution, let the rest of us know. I am seriously considering swapping out the motherboard from my old cracked screen SM-N915O that is rooted with the motherboard of my SM-N915A but I am not sure if they are completely compatible and I am not sure where the lock for the bootloader resides, so not sure if that would actually help. Still, it is clear Marshmallow does not work with some updated apps so I may need to try something soon.
