WIFI 5 GHz
Mi Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is working on standard channels 36,40,44,48 only!
It is unable to detect the router SSID if the router works (in automatic-mode) above channel 48! Nearly every router has other 8 channels (52 to 112).

It works okay with my Asus AC88U, I'm currently connected to 5GHz on channel 140, but then the router is setup to only work on channel 140(and you mentioned automatic mode)
I'll try it on automatic mode when I get the chance and report back.

thanks for your answer.
I'm using the router ASUS RT-AC68U. According to my settings/version only 12 channels (36 - 112) are possible. I checked it again because of your message, but there is no difference. Even a temporarily different bandwidth (20 MHz, 40 MHz, 80 MHz) does not change this result. Whenever I select a channel in the router above #48, the SSID seems to be no longer existent.

The channels visible whenever you do a WiFi-search are very much depending on the country you have set with the WLAN-settings on you phone and your Router. Take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

OnHub problem with 5G

My LG-G4 and Samsung S4 only connect at 2.4G to the TP-Link Onhub (TPLink). They both connect to 5G when I use a Netgear router. If I place either phone right next to the OnHub, I can momentarily connect (about 2% of the time) to the 5G,
When I look at the details of the 5G connection (it only stays connected a few seconds) using WIFI Manager app, it shows that the OnHub "speed" is the same for both 2.4 and 5G. In the tests I ran the OnHub speeds were 96 Mbps. However, when I tested a NetGear Wifi router, the 5G always broadcasts a much higher "Speed", and will connect to 5G if signal strength is decent. Using the NetGear it is 96 Mbps for 2.4G and 433 Mbps for 5G.
This happens on both the LG-G4 and the Galaxy S4. I assume the phones are looking at both "Speed" and signal strength ("Level") to select the wifi band. If so, they will never select the 5G (other than momentarily) because the 2.4 signal is almost always stronger.
Am I the only person that has this problem?
I have a similar problem. My onhub will connect at 2.4 about 50 percent of the time even when my phone or tablet is right next to the router. My 5g connection when I have it, is significantly faster than the 2.4 connection. No idea why.

Go into your advanced WIFI settings on both phones and change band selection from AUTOMATIC to 5GHZ. That will solve your issue
No band selection available on LG G4.

Wifi alone performs really well, but once you turn on bluetooth it becomes terrible. Download speeds of less than 1 mbps, barely usable.
@ZunsheV I cannot confirm the behavior you are describing. Having switched on bluetooth only without any traffic on it doesn't slow down the WiFi connection speed for me. It's a bit different when I am transferrring data over bluetooth in parallel or if bluetooth is scanning for devices. In those cases I can notice a slowdown, too.
Can more people chip in who bought m5? Does it have bluetooth/wifi problem? I plan on use it with bluetooth headphones so it would be major problem. I saw m3 had this problem.
I've got problems with the WiFi here, I've tested with Bluetooth speaker and gamepad with no slowdown at all

Using Wifi while connected to a bluetooth device slows downloads significantly.
I connected to my 5G wifi point and my Bragi headphones and it took several minutes to download a game from Google Play; turning off bluetooth and downloading a different game took only a few seconds (same wifi connection).
i'd go Samsung but the cheapest tablet with a fingerprint reader is running MARSHMALLOW (!).
I have no problems with bluetooth and wifi. No differences with bluetooth on and connected to my charge 3 and with bluetooth off. I have an M5 Wi fi only
I have the same problems. When the WiFi and Bluetooth is turned on, the speed falls dramatically.
I use WiFi 5 ghz router and Bluetooth jbl clip2.
No problems with my M5 8"LTE bluetooth or wifi, even when both are aktiv. Both works as it should.
edit: after some testing there is a "problem" with wifi speed 2.4Ghz when streaming music via BT, but not on 5Ghz.
Maybe not device relaited? Because my M2 8" LTE and my iPhone 7+ does the same
Hi everyone, how did you manage to get the mediapad m5 connected to 5ghz wifi, mine is not detecting any 5ghz wifi,

Probably you should try to change the channel of your router ...
Poor WiFi performance even when Bluetooth is off
I recently bought an Mediapad M5 and already next day i reclaimed it because of WiFi issues. At first start up i installed all availble system updates, restarted the Mediapad and checked WiFi performace. I noticed the downlink didnt gave me the normal speed as i have on my other devices (Galaxy TAB S, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S9) and that was when all other connections as Bluetooth was switched off. I have an 250/100 MBit/s service from my ISP wich usually give me approx 245/100 MBits/s on the 5 GHz wireless network. The Medipad gave me 120/100 MBit/s (50 % downlink speed of what i am used to get) and poor latency in comparation to the others. I tried what was under my possibilitys to do, reset network settings and also as final a factory reset. Nothing of that solved the issues. So it was an easy decision to take and reclaim the Huawei Mediapad M5 crap mediapad and get the money back.
Furthermore there was other annoying issues on the Mediapad M5. It was not possible to use all of the apps i earlier bought from Google Play and are using on my old Galaxy TAB S and on my Galaxy S9. Apps for monitoring WiFi connection, e.g WiFi Overview 360 Pro and WiFi Analyzer - both are well reputation apps, didnt work properly on Mediapad M5 depending of Huaweis app regulations. Using these apps on the Mediapad M5 i was only allowed to see the network i was attached to. Nothing else. I spoked with Huawei support desk and they confirmed that Huawei have restrictions for what apps users are allowed to run on Huawei devices.
So if you are going to purchase a new tablet, make a proper consideration before you choose a Huawei Mediapad device.
Good on my M5 10.8
I use 5GHz wifi and bluetooth is always on (and connected sometimes), i still get a link speed equivalent to my desktop with a dedicated PCIE wifi card (867mbps) and with a case on it sometimes beats my desktop wifi speed.
Haven't tried bluetooth with 2.4GHz, it's slower yes, but i never noticed it, only 2.4GHz wifi ive used is out and about on public wifi and that's slow anyway (verify with my phone)
Also worth noting that i think my model might be a cellular model in disguise, it has the gyroscope which is exclusive to the cellular model, and a thermal sensor for the modem.
The WiFi / Bluetooth issue is not specific to this device. It happens on everything using the 2.4G WiFi band. Ise 5G and problem is gone.

Is using a USB bluetooth adapter over OTG an option?
You should have a good router for a stable 5ghz connection. I had dir-809. The signal was very unstable even in the same room a few meters away, the speed of my internet is 150 mbit, but ive got rarely above 90mbit, because of the 100 mbit wan port.
Now I'm using very cheap but much, much better tenda ac10 router. The signal is strong and stable even in the room next to the router, where i haven't signal before. The link speed on my p20 is 520-750 mbit, on the mediapad around 390-433 mbit. I've got 150 mbit internet speed (150 is the isp limitation.) I'd wish the tablet to support mu-mimo, but as i know only p20/p20 pro/mate 10 pro Porsche support the technology.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JpigHhjzodw6UEAbmRw8zQh6IE46OOfx/view?usp=drivesdk
Worst. 4 times less speed than before Turbo GPU and August Security Patch update. Avoid!
Edit: I panicked a little bit too much. After that I played with my router's 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, divided it into two different wifi names, then connected to my M5. After everything - changed to that one wifi name with 2 bands. Now it's working as it should.
I get about half the speed on the M5 than i do with my Mate 10 or my desktop, with bluetooth off.
Also the wifi signal is good if you're in direct sight of the router and within 20 meters, once i go behind a wall i lose signal.

Try working with your router - a change of channel number could solve the problem. Also, check if you connect to 5ghz band as this could get you nicer speeds.
There is significant speed decrease in wifi speed with Bluetooth on. It appears on 5ghz network too. With Bluetooth off i get around 200 mbit/s.
The problem doesn't appear on p20. I've got around 400 mbit/s with Bluetooth always on.

Wi-Fi AC only 72 Mbps

I'm connected to the 5 GHz band on my WiFi AC 2X2 MU-MIMO Router but the link speed is only 72 Mbps instead of the 433 Mbps that I should get on WiFi AC 1X1 Client. The problem is not on the router because my laptop with 2X2 network card can connect at 866.7 Mbps link speed.
When I set my router 5 GHz Mode to 802.11ac only my Mi A1 won't connect to the network anymore unless I set it a again to mixed.
ROM: Stock March update with locked bootloader
Router: TP-LINK Archer C60 V2
5 GHz Mode: 802.11a/n/ac mixed
Channel: Auto - 153(155)
Channel width: Auto - 80 MHz

I noticed that my mi A1 has problems connetting to 5GHz networks on certain channels (usually >100). Try switching in your router settings your 5GHz WiFi channel to something like 36 or 40 and see if it helps.
I can connect 5GHz wifi with 200 Mbps link speed by install Magisk modules "WiFi Bonding (Qualcomm)"

I can connect to the 5 GHz network but i can't get expected 433 Mbps link speed with a AC Router instead of that it only gets 72 Mbps (WiFi N).
Maybe try a custom ROMto see if it is a hardware issue or a ROM issue? I have no issues with 433mbps on 5GHz AC.
If you can also try another 5GHz network to ensure that it isn't a compatibility issue with your router, then we can narrow down the possible issues.
Did it ever connect at a higher rate than 72mbps? Or have you only had this phone for a short time? Maybe see if you can find an older stock ROM to fastboot flash to ensure it isn't the ROM that is messed up?

In which channel if your 5 GHz network working?
PD: This is my second Mi A1 because the previous one got stolen from my house so when I bought it the first thing that I did was installing Oreo and then a factory reset. Also I bought the new router the next day so I've never tested it with Nougat.
btw have 72mbit/s on 2,4GHz as well :/ tried on stock and LOS 15.1

In 2.4 GHz it's completely normal unless you set your router channel bandwidth to 40 MHz (not recommended if you live in a very populated area with a lot of nearly WiFi networks) and enable channel bonding on your devices and you'll get 150 Mbps.
I unlocked the bootloader and flashed latest fastboot ROM with MiFlash using clean all and lock, I'm still getting 72 mbps but the WiFi signal has improved and also now I have Mi Drop, Mi Community and Mi File Manager preinstalled. I'll try a custom ROM in this days and I'll post the results.

It's on auto, currently channel 36. I have no problem with 433Mbps connection on 5GHz, being about 20 feet away in another room with 2 walls in between. I can be upstairs in a bedroom, not directly above the router, and still have over 300Mbps connection.
This is running a Linksys EA6900 router with XWRT Vortex/Merlin custom firmware, and Mi A1 running Pixel Experience with Franco Kernel R2.

Wifi connection overall good, but 5GHz keep dropping often. On 2.4GHz it holds better even on weak signal.
Yes, 5Ghz keeps dropping a lot.
range is average however this phone uses a single beam connections over both bands making it only able to connect at 72Mbps over 2.4Ghz and 150Mbps over 5Ghz and both gives a less than average throughput to be honest compared to even much cheaper phones I've tested.
5ghz channel is not showing
Hellow. In my a50-sma505f, 5ghz wifi channel is not showing. Is it any how software related?
QR code password share
I cant share wifi password using qr code. This feature was present earlier.
I've speed tested over 200mbps with link speeds near 400mbps so you're clearly mistaken.
I think someone is wrong, on my SM-A505FN I often reach 2.4GHz to 100Mbit / sec and 5.8GHz still up to 300Mbit / sec. Speed, quality and reliability are among the best I've ever tried. If you have problems with WiFi, try focusing on your router's firmware first, or try changing its router manufacturer. But you are definitely not alone with these problems, although this should not happen due to standards, the opposite is true.
Most Arris routers I've connected on my A505G/DS to both 2.4 and 5.8 drops out (exclamation mark next to wifi signal) when doing anything heavy bandwidth related. Only seems to work good when connected to my netgear wifi extender. Speeds aren't as fast as other devices also. I've reset the device so I have no idea what's up but I'm disappointed with this.
Wi Fi strenght is pretty weak and I compared I few models. The results are that Samsung A50 showed signal same as Nokia from 2010 with Symbian OS....disapointed....
https://youtu.be/yxeiDqNOa1U
according for my using for this device around 1 week wifi is acceptable but i noticed there many options not there any more like wps setting and QR code scan to share wifi access key ... didn't like that we supposed to get more features not the opposite ..
Not happy with WiFi. Slow loading videos most of the time and stop&go so annoying. Very often when I try to open news, for example, I see msg "No Internet connection. Try again." Even if it show me it's connected. I have a problem to connect this phone with my Toyota 2019 Entune. It shows me phone paired with care but I can't listen music. It slow loading and interrapting. I do not recommend this phone. Older versions WiFi is better.

Wifi strength is poor for me.
Currently at miui 10.2.7. 0
Signal strength is ok. But idk why every time i connect to a 2.4Ghz AP the link speed is 72Mbps max and that means a max speed of 50Mbps.
I've been experiencing Wifi Drops no matter the MIUI. Tried the Xiaomi.eu too and it's the same.

Same here, only used stable default rom, I think device is faulty, should connect with service center
I am getting a stable wifi speed of 72 Mbps where as my Honor 6x is getting 121 Mbps when kept side by side. But no drops etc. seen. I am on latest 10.3.7.
Check the sleep settings if available in the router (normally part of the power saver or beacon settings depending on the router model) that can cause the connection to disconnect to save power in both router and mobile
Signal of wifi is good but speed is not, the same AP i used to do speedtest app, Mi max 3 is better RM N 7 pro ( MM3 is about 50Mb, RMN7 pro is about 35Mb )
Here link it's fast and stable on an Arcadyan Router.

On some forums, there are reports about WiFi problems related to a shared bands on the same SSID.
The common fix is to separate the bands 2.4 and 5G on a different SSIDs.
In my case, this config works without separate the bands.

Hi,
I am staying at Hyatt House Reston, VA.
They have a wifi from cox, i am able to connect through laptop, i can connect to the wifi router and then open web browser open their page and place the password and get connected.
however while i try to connect through my phones, one is Moto G5 plus and second is Redmi Note 7 Pro, both are not getting connected to wifi router. (if i get connected to wifi router i can go to web page and connect to internet)
i tried to forget wifi, restart phone etc however it goes on 'connecting' then 'saved' then 'disconnected' and keep on doing the same connecting-disconnecting but never goes into 'connected' state.
I have found that the problem is with only Android users however Samsung users are able to connect to the wifi after some efforts.
Please let me know how i can check if this some settings related issue or it is a router issue.

that's likely case if router doesn't support Band steering, since 2.4Ghz will have higher signal strength, and thus preferred choice.
unless router support band steering (or Band select) it recommended to keep separate SSID for both 2.4G and 5 G
---------- Post added at 10:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 PM ----------
based on my testing, Redmi Note 7 pro is 1x1 MIMO on both 2.4G and 5G (AC supported). Thus max data rate is 72/144 MBps (96/173 with proprietary 256-QAM) (20MHz/40MHz) and 433Mbps with AC (80MHz) .
I got around 60/50 Mbps (download/upload) on speedtest for 2.4G 20Mhz. And 260 Mbps on 5GHz.
On this same router (4x4 MIMO, with latest broadcomm chipset), i got 660Mbps on my Mi Mix2 since it support 2x2 MIMO (n/ac) with upto 866 Mbps data rate.

usually for debugging Wi-Fi connectivity, isolate Wi-Fi association and IP connectivity issue.
If your Wi-Fi is connected initially but you don't get dhcp IP( you get 169.xxx.xxx.xxx Ip range) and phone automatically disconnect, then likely Wi-Fi association is okay. So its L2/L3 issue. Is there any black listing or whitelisting of device?

Do you have dual Band router?
Sometime if you have separate SSID for 2.4G and 5G saved on phone and you are in location were 5Ghz signal is weak, phone will switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz every now and again.
Try to remove password for one of the SSID and stay near to router to see if this is the reason.
WiFi is rubbish!
Sorry, but a max Wireless-AC connection speed of 433Mbps is garbage for a 2019 handset!
My 2015 Moto X Force and my 2014 Samsung Note Pro 12.2 both connect at 866Mbps to my Linksys WRT32X router.
This is on China ROM 10.3.11. I'm hoping that the India ROM 10.3.13 will perform better?
*** EDIT ***
It does not!
I've tried three different ROMs now, China 10.3.11, India 10.3.13 and EU 11 beta 9.9.26 and the WiFi is the same on all three. Seems like 433Mbps is a physical limit. This is OK for Internet browsing, but pretty poor for device to device copies over a LAN. USB-C is the saving grace here, so long as you have a PC / laptop that supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 connections !

Wi-Fi is hardware design choice. As i mention its 1x1 MIMO on both 2.4/5GHz with support for AC(5GHz).
Most of the mid level hardware/phones are like this.
I have Blackberry DTEK60 which has similar Wi-Fi setup and countless other middle end phones be it from Huawei or Samsung. Xiaomi actually have 2x2MIMO with AC for high end MI series just like Samsung. Its just Redmi series where they cut certain hardware features.
I think its no brainer to include 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi, anything lower is either stupidity or incompetence. I can actually see the different in Wi-Fi performance between my Mi MIX2s and Redmi Note 7 pro because my room is two walls away from Router.
I know how Wi-Fi works and thus i can understand why it happens when i loose connectivity. Most people will blame Phone, but the fact is, Wi-Fi is good for the design spec, its just bad design choice they made.
Just got a RN7 Pro and wifi speed is slow (72mbs). My RN5 Pro next to it gets 150mbs. Is this a design flaw in the 7 Pro? Its not the router! Again, the 5 Pro is perfectly fine and twice the speed of the 7 pro, side by side. Any solution to this, ie, moving to different rom other than Miui?

Here it happens also on an Arkadyan Router from Jazztel/Orange Spain.
But it seems mostly related to the Router.
At some point,
Phone connects to the 2.4GHz band and the speed is locked to 72Mb.
I just reScann 5.2Ghz Channel and it reconnects to AC again at 486+/-, even far away from the Router.

The Router 2.4Ghz band is locked at 144Mb instead of 300Mb, so the link is too low.
You can try InSSider or another tool to check real Router's band speed.
You can play also toggleing between 20/40Mh frequency.
There's a RN5Pro global here also, and sometimes happens to it that too.

My wifi 2.4ghz works now @ 150 mbps. When I got the phone with miui 10, it was 72mbps and when upgraded to miui 11.06 still stuck at 72mbps. When I changed to miui.eu dev rom (9.12.12) it works @ 150mbps. So all OK for me on the 2.4ghz band.
