a quick note to mention that i am very impressed with the blacks on this display. i am coming from the xperia z3 and that was a real sore point with that device. everything looked grey and washed out (including the colours). figured that was just a necessary sacrifice coming from a galaxy s3 AMOLED display. now i'm sure these blacks aren't AMOLED-level but they're a heck of a lot better than the xperia displays of 3 years ago.

I was worried about this because I've used older AMOLED displays and loved them, but I've been disappointed with recent LCD displays in the Z3 compact and HTC 10. Not so with the XZ1 compact. The contrast and deep blacks fool me into thinking I'm using an OLED. Easily the best display I've used in a phone.

Simply phenomenal, infinite contrast and plenty of shades of grey, more so than in the Note 4 from what I see side-by-side.
Well, note 5 would express true black and darkness well. But...
I noticed right 1/3 side of my note 5 display looks darker than other side of display.
So, I went to CS center and heard it's not defect because it's what it is! Unbelievable...
Anyway, I exchanged for a new one though I heard and heard that it's not a defect and he(an engineer of CS center) won't exchange for this problem again if it's more severe.
And now I agree his opoinion that it's what it is though there're differences of degree.
Now my note 5 looks better than previous one.
I checked some other note 5 and they have this problem more or less.
I admit I'm somewhat sensitive that most of people didn't noticed this.
But referring him, there were people who reported this problem.
What I'd like to say is that note 5 may not be able to express contrast well consequently though it's AMOLED display.
And it seems better you don't buy galaxy note 5 if you are sensitive like me and really Samsung think this is not a problem like he said.
This is so late review since I bought this phone late..
I do watch alot of video on this phone. Netflix, youtube, messenger, snapchat, twitch etc. True blackness isn't as deep black and incky like your modern LCD HDTV, but for a 5.7 inch screen device, it's pretty awesome. House of cards, twitch video streams, youtube HD and top gear are just examples of good quality contrast and true blackness media that I watch. No complaints here. The histrogram in my opinion on this phone is very good. You can see the deepest grays, blacks and the brightest whites.

Maybe not quite AMOLED but I can't easily tell where a black screen ends and the bezels begin. It's sharp.
best lcd ive seen on a 1080p display. i thought for sure this was amoled. :good:
It's too dark actually. The colors are NOT accurate.
Compare it side by side with an iPhone, Samsung, HTC, etc..
Open and photo and you will notice how DARK the image is when viewed in the X4.
This isn't good when you do a lot of photo editing as it you might adjust your picture and make it too bright.
But I think this the display calibration is intentional. Lenovo wants to fool the consumers into thinking that it has a good contrast.
It does but with the expense of inaccurate colors.

Black is completely black. With brightness setting to max and a black picture full screen, you can not see the device in complete darkness.
This is to be expected for an AMOLED panel.
Not gonna lie, this is kind of a silly topic. The screen is AMOLED. That means that for black, the screen literally turns pixels off individually. It doesn't get any more "contrast" then that. This is what's known as an infinite contrast ratio.
*SUPER Amoled

That's the same as an AMOLED. Just marketing. Same for Apples "Retina Display", it's nothing special

Not quite.
Super AMOLED combines the touch screen hardware and the OLED display into a single layer.
Standard AMOLED the touch screen is a separate layer over the top of the OLED display
Oh yeah. Forgot about that. It's slightly more advanced but the term AMOLED is used instead most of the team afaik

I really don't know about colors that much but the colors I see on my smartphone, I like them.
I have 2 phones redmi8 and redmi8a. Both of them looks same. Screen colors, brightness everything looks same. I do not take 8a with me outside but I do take redmi8 with me. I showed redmi8 to many people. Black color is very dark, no screen bleading issue. Some thought it was amoled. I had to told them no it was not. Because I use a solid black wallpaper. Screen is bright and can get very dim at night. It can get too dim. For color accuracy I think It is not that good. Because I compared it with an iphone 5s. I think iphone 5s looks better. Even though that phone is old but iphones always had better screen(mostly). It is my observation. This phone is cheap. For the price point it gives a very good brightness but colors are not that great. This phone has an LCD screen and cheap. For that reason I will give an A grade.

I am just coming from a Poco X3 and its quality in low light was just poor, just too much light bleeding that made blacks looking greyish.
Anyone can tell how is the screen looking in low light, especially the black areas on the Mi10T/pro?
I don't think that IPS glow / backlight bleeding is so bad on this phone.
But I guess it's different from phone to phone just like a PC monitor, if you buy several monitors of the same model they will all have different amount of glow.
It's a lottery.
For me it has no backlight bleeding but it has a red tint on white background that increases when the screen is dim.
Coming from an iPhone 11, I could say it's a solid 8+ out of 10.
To my eyes, it's one of the best, if not the best, IPS I saw on an upper mid-range smartphone so far.
Maybe you got lucky and got a good calibrated panel. Compared mine with a friend's iphone 11 and colors are way off ...
I have not noticed any red tint on low brightness.
I think the screen is good. I am happy overall with the phone, just a bit disappointed at the camera.
