Sony Xperia XZ1 vs Xperia XZ speaker comparison:
Meh..I have it. It's not that loud. I have a Note 8 as well and it's definitely louder. Even with the bottom firing speaker. I love the XZ1 but it's speakers for media and calls (and speaker phone calls) are not very good especially for being front firing.

Single speaker on the bottom. I had a Nexus 5X to compare, the Nokia is much louder. Clarity as expected, almost no lows, nice mids, squeaky highs, although I never heard a phone speaker sound any better.

In my opinion the speaker phone is louder and has a deep sound compared to my iPhone 7's dual speakers. The sound is very clear and crisp. Overall I give it a 8 out of 10 keeping in mind the clarity when playing music on loud volumes.

Crazy high volume! Not so crisp when it's maxed out, but it's very loud!
It's so damn loud, that I don't even need my JBL Go bluetooth loudspeaker anymore. It's sound quality is quite good, not the best but a lot better than most other phones. R.I.P. if you play Clash Royale on the toilet and forgot to turn sound off, everyone in the will now

I actually think the single, downward firing speaker sounds pretty good! Coming from a Pixel 2 XL with dual front firing speakers, the Reno's don't sound as good of course but they're still pretty loud and full of bass without distorting. Probably one of the best single firing speakers I've heard

As well as its speakers,
Cirrus Logic CS35L41 Speaker Amp x2
360 Reality Audio hardware decoding
Dolby Atmos tuned by Sony Pictures and Sony music
DSEE Ultimate
are exclusive and make its analog jack perform better than others subjectively.
Without turning on the Dolby Atmos, the speakers sounds horrible. It sounds hollow, tinny, and vibrates way too much, and thats before turning on that vibration effect. The vibration effect pretty much does nothing to enhance the experience and makes your hand goes numb from it constantly vibrating.
Turning on Dolby Atmos made the speaker sound a bit better, its clearer and doesnt sound hollow at all. But I still think my 2 year old Note 9 still sounds a tad better than the Sony. At least the Sony doesnt have downward firing speakers.
