Backup services - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Any way for the S8 to use regular Google Nougat backup services like on the Pixel? I'm transitioning to the Essential and the Pixel backup/restore was great.

S8 is using both, the Google's backup and Samsung Cloud back up. I personally like Samsung's backup because it backs up settings(most), home screen shortcuts/folders, apps and app data(although I can't confirm that 100% as not all data from every app is backed up)

[Q] Backup and restore for a non-rooted N7

I got my nexus 7 recently and seems to have the battery drain issue. I monitored the apps running and all that. Adjusted settings according to some of the threads I've read.
I wanted to reset my N7 and don't plan on rooting it yet. However, I've spent hours downloading apps, placing icons and widgets where I like them on my screen. I also created google chrome website via link icons on my screens to quickly access my favorite websites.
Is there a App on the play store that will restore the apps, settings, wallpaper, icons and widgets?
So far I see there's titanium and nandroid (requires root) and mybackup (without root).
*I was happy to get rid of all my apple products but only miss the restore function

Under settings go to Backup and Reset. Make sure Back up my Data and Automatic Restore are selected. It will save your settings and a list of your apps on Google's servers. When you re-setup your Google account your apps will automatically re-download and install.
You can use wug's nexus root toolkit, take a full apps backup with data and shared folder. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

thanks, I'll look into that one, seems promising.

[Q] Saving Apps

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if there is like a thing in google play or an app wich can just save/remember the apps you have each time. I install roms on a lot of android devices but always hate searching my favorite apps and downloading them all again.
Or do I just need to backup the apps in the recovery or something.
Any help would be appreciated

Paid version here as well. (Namely because the paid version offers a number of little things that help a bit, such as SMS, Call Logs, and other settings in XML which is more compatible with being restored on various devices, also there's the extra troubleshooting if you can't seem to get an app restored).
Helium (formerly Carbon) ftmfw! Not only will it let you back up app data only if desired (very useful as it saves space by only backing up the app data e.g. account info, saved games etc) and save backups to the cloud, you can sync app data across multiple devices so you can carry on your Angry Birds mayhem on your tablet right where you left off on your phone. I have the paid version of Titanium Backup, ROM Toolbox Pro and Helium and by far Helium is king

How to get Samsung Cloud

First off shout out to Vmmatty over in the Android central forum http://goo.gl/kha4Uy
It seems that Verizon is trying to be sneaky and just hide Samsung Cloud to push you towards their cloud. But it's actually there, they just hid the icon.
If you use an app like quickshortcutmaker and you look for Samsung Backup and Restore (com.samsung.android.scloud)
You can create a short cut for it and boom. You can now access Samsung Cloud and get your free 15gb.
Nice! I just did a backup on everything but my apps. Worked like a charm and my free 15gb are showing. Thanks for this!!

Nice, I noticed the app was in the firmware last night but wasn't sure how they hid it.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! works perfectly, FU Verizon!
Thanks a Lot for this Info, works fine was able to backup my phone , has anyone found the settings for the device maintenance yet or is it completely non existent ?
Yeah, backup worked for me as well. I saw the original link to this discovery and was thankful. I find this piece of "bloatware" worthwhile and far more robust than VZW cloud.
Man. I sure wish some more attention and scrutiny would be at Verizon for their low practices

Great find! Sneaky sneaky Vzw
nice find, no option to back up pics though....
Nice
thank you for the great find
Delete smt on Cloud
How to delete or view smt on Cloud? Anyone know how to manager SS Cloud on PC? I want to delete synced gallery, but i can't find any option to do it. Can't tap on Gallery in Samsung cloud usage: prntscr.com/cblhij
is it possible to copy files from cloud to the phone or SD card? anyone tried that?
Keep getting backup failure when it tries to backup apps
Works Great!!! The quickshortcutmaker app is not really intuitive but it work great!

Sounding off.. Me too, as well as a family members phone also failing to backup during Apps.
Same. Apps fail to backup, have tried troubleshooting to no avail.

The solution is to temporarily enable all of your Package Disabler bloat apps, do the Cloud backup, then disable the bloat again.

I was also not able to back up my apps via Samsung Cloud. Your solution worked and allowed backups to complete. I went in and enabled all apps, then after the backup disabled them again. Thanks.

Samsung push on LGV20?

I decided today to remove more stuff from my V20. I found out that it has samsung push services installed.
What would be affected if I remove it?
Samsung push would be effected.
Samsung gear watch maybe?
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA Premium HD app
As stated, you either have a Samsung device you've tried connecting to it or it's an app that came over from a previous device by way of a backup and restore service such as you Google account. Samsung Push is not something pre-installed on your LG device.
@TempezT would you like to create a list of apps you have disabled or removed? A debloat list of sorts. T-Mo H918 here.

I disable the following:
T mobile ID
Android pay
Cloud print
Drive
Google play music
Google play MOVIES AND TV
Hang outs
In apps
Lookout
Removed
T mobile TV
Penup
And some other apps I don't remember right now. As mention by CHH, some apps came from my N7 so I don't know which ones came stock on my V20.

Cool man, we should keep a list updated on all safe apps as we disable them. Some are not as safe as these, but I'm not sure which ones are and aren't lol

Bloat!

I really hope this phone gets rooted and perhaps a ROM. I came from the OnePlus 7 Pro and yikes! The stock s20 says it has 520 apps installed, which includes my usual apps. My OnePlus 7 Pro has my identical apps installed, and it is under 150 for system and user apps.
The phone is crazy fast, but it would be ridiculous with a semi-stock Android.

You can uninstall the apps with ADB.
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
Here is how to do it without root access, maybe Samsung and OnePlus count differently?
Disabled apps
You can use adb or if you are lazy like me, you can buy a package disabler for 3€.
The apps I disabled are in the attach. You can disable more for better battery, but I still want the Samsung experience.
Maybe someone can suggest more apps that can be disabled without touching the Samsung experience.
I recommend using CCSWE App Manager rather than deleting via adb. You get the same effect, but if you need to restore an app/service, all you have to do is toggle a button, which is much more convenient than using adb.

Hi,
Do you happen to have a list of what you disabled using CCSWE that's safe
and/or not needed for a smooth setup. CCSWE has color coded system files
in red, are these safe to disable????

All system files are potentially dangerous to disable/uninstall.
I disabled the following with no issues whatsoever:
Bixby routines
Bixby voice
Bixby voice stub
Briefing
(Samsung) Calendar
(Samsung) Contacts
Facebook
Facebook app installer
Facebook app manager
Facebook services
Game launcher
(Samsung) Launcher
Messages
Netflix
Samsung Daily
Samsung Galaxy friends
Samsung Internet
Smasung Internet panel
SmartThings
Voice wake-up
Obviously, if you use any of those apps/services, then don't disable them. I use Google Calendar & Google Contacts, so the Samsung versions are unnecessary. And I use Pulse SMS, so no need for Messages app.
