What about Google Find My Device. I always thought that you can install from playstore and activate it all via computer.

You need to enable
It in Google > Security > find my device.
Good news is it's on by default...

Kinda what I thought. So hopefully it will help the OP.

Android device manager. Should be enabled by default.
Or Google one both the same.

Cerberus works great too

[Q] Uninstall an active device admin app

Hey guys,
I've got an app called "Unlock with WiFi" installed on my rooted Nexus 4. I cannot for the life of me get the d*** thing off my phone. It had requested to be a device admin (which I had approved a while ago). However, I cannot deactivate it under Security>Device administrators...the checkbox just will NOT uncheck. I've tried uninstalling from within the app, which is what the app FAQs say to do, but it says I must first deactivate the app as a device admin.
I wasn't even rooted prior to tonight. I got so frustrated trying to uninstall it, I just did a quick root and installed TiBu...then proceeded to "Un-Install!" It looked like it had worked, I rebooted, then there it was again! I just want it gone! Any suggestions? I'd really rather not have to flash the stock images, but if that's my only option, I will -_-
I'm not familiar with the app but go into the app and find any and all settings to disable it to make sure the app is no longer running. Then go into Settings > Apps and stop the app. Then go back to Settings and remove the device from administrators. See if that works for you.
Have you tried settings >accessibility and turn it off there?

I've disabled the functionality from within the
app, but cannot disable/force close from Android settings (see attached pic). I've even tried booting into safe mode, but experience the same issues.

It's not in accessibility, only in device administrators...and Android will not let me uncheck it.

Any chance you could add a second function, for
Code:
adb shell start adbd
Or maybe even one for
Code:
adb reboot recovery

Well, it looks awesome, but only runs once? I stopped adb, and the app disappeared from the app drawer... app manager says it's still there, but I went to clear data, and an error popped up saying that the application no longer exists. Any ideas?
EDIT: Disregard, I reinstalled and now it works fine! Must have been a root issue, because it only did it the very first time, before it was granted root. Every time after, it was just fine. Thank you!!!
Also, one question. Can we use this in Roms for the device, assuming we give you proper credit? We've been waiting on something like this for a long time, my friend.
I installed on my note 2 looks solid gotta try on actv later

Forgot to report back. The application works perfectly with my Actv. The previous version didn't launch on my actv at first. However this new version works fantastic. Thanks again, I'm very greatful.
This is a brilliant little app, would it be possible to add Wifi ADB and Normal(USB) ADB to make it the complete solution? I use GScript right now for these tasks, having it in the ADB manager would be perfect

well darn u beat me to it lol i was just in the middle of making one, guess ill just throw mine away since yours seems to work better =S lol
So does this enable host mode or would this require hardware the ACTV doesn't have? Awesome work regardless.
Auto start adb manager?
Is there an adb command to set my Motoactv to automatically start with the device? I'm rooted, using the stock interface, and just want it to easily go back to USB mode by default. Thanks.

If you want to continue to use stock room, and need hot spot, there is a trick using the app shortcut master from the market where you just have to edit 1 line . It works on LG g2 and g3 (I used it). If anyone wants to try, I'll look for a link to the directions.

No good. Those values don't show up in shortcut master.
Anyone had any luck with this? I can't find the file that OMJ is talking about to save my life. I don't see any attachments.
I've tried editing my build.prop and I've tried editing the default xml to change the rules and enforcement to 0.
The latter DID let the hotspot start for me. Other devices can connect. But they never get network connectivity.
Can anyone help me confirm what I'm missing?
Fabio Grasso's WiFi Tether app works for me on the 10.
https://sites.google.com/site/wifitetherrouter/
I can't get it to work on mine! I've achieved root, installed the app, matched all the settings up....no internet connection. It's strange, my Ipad can see the network and it says it's connected. As soon as I connect it though I lose internet connection on both devices, can't load a single web page. Did you have this issue at all or would you have any idea what would cause this? I'm at my wits end with it, and I've used this app for 2 years on my M8.

HAH. I couldn't get it to work with this app (not initially anyway). I turned to his site to check if there were settings already available to use for the HTC 10 because it couldn't auto-detect the wifi adapter name. On his site, it says HTC users need to uninstall "TetherGuard" - system app.
Did that, figured I'd reboot and try the built in tethering which now works beautifully. Got it still within my refund window for Wifi Tether Router.
So some combination of what I posted above plus UNINSTALL TETHERGUARD! And life's good now. Thanks much.

It didn't give me the option to uninstall, just disable. I did that and tweaked with a few more things and that seemed to fix it. Fingers crossed!

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall TetherGuard since you're rooted, instead of just disabling it.
Anyone want to post the specific changes/tweaks they've done? I've done changes to build.prop and default.xml (using the various settings found all over XDA) and also disabled/removed TetherGuard, but I'm still stuck at hotspot enabling but no data connection for any connected devices (data still works for the phone while hotspot is on though).

Smart Settings on Verizon

I looked for smart settings on my Verizon unit and couldn't find it. Looks like Verizon removed it.
Here is how to get it back.
Download QuickShortcutmaker from the market
Open it and scroll down to smart settings.
Open the smart settings dropdown.
Now press the first smart settings drop down.
This will create a icon on your home screen.
That's it.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for this suggestion. Most Smart Settings cannot be used without the My Places feature active, and that has apparently been disabled by Verizon as well. Any workaround suggestions?
Perhaps try Llama? It can be found in the Play Store
I would be very interested if one of the tmobile phone owners have an apk of my places, and could possibly post it.

Attached are the APKs. One of the app itself, the other is the engine. Not sure if you need the engine or not though.
Appreciate you posting that, unfortunately it said that they are corrupted. Both files are only a handful of kilobytes each which cant be correct

I recommend MacroDroid. Much better than Smart Settings. Smart Settings is terrible by comparison. Verizon did you a favor.

No, unfortunately Verizon verified that they did indeed REMOVE My places functionality from their version, so no it will not auto-locate your home location after 5 days, either.
IMO, they are trying to force you to use more data. Most people turn their wifi off when they leave, and turn it back on when they come home - Smart setting will do just that. So, why would Big Red not want you to have it? Because when you have to do it manually, you'll forget to turn it back on when you get home... and when you do that, you'll use more data. my *theory*.

Or people will just leave WiFi on...because it doesn't use that much battery when not in use. This isn't a conspiracy to get people to use more data. Sounds like carriers have to pay for certain features on phones and Verizon didn't want to cash out for some less useful features. Plenty of other apps out there that can turn your WiFi on and off automatically.

Hmmm... most people I know turn it off, but to each his own. But when that is intentionally disabled along with FM radio, along with Google In Apps Search shortcut (by which you must do an internet search first before just searching for something on your phone...) - a pattern seems to be emerging... but let's give Big Red the benefit of the doubt, right? Let's forget about the lawsuit about them asking Blackberry to disable bluetooth so you couldn't transfer files, or the similar lawsuit about the same kind of thing with Motorola...
No... Nothing to see here... Move along, people, move along...
Any luck with this?

I have a ULM unlocked (non Amazon or Google Fi) version and using Google Phone dialer beta app as my dialer app. In the latest few betas I am not able to do get *#*#4636#*#* working. My Phone app is version is 52.0.322645706-publucbeta.

Yea, it is a bummer the dialer doesn't recognize the codes any longer. Here's another way to the screen you are looking for.
1) Go to G Play Store.
2) Install Shortcut Master full or lite versions.
3) Launch Shortcut Master
4) Search for com.android.setting.Settings$TestingSettingsActivity and launch it.

That's a really nice way to do it, but in my case it generates a RemoteException of some sort on my Huawei Mate 10 Pro. Is there any app I should disable that's actually doing the check ? Or does it mean Huawei ****ed it up again to prevent us from accessing the hidden settings menu ?
