H873 (Canadian G6) unlock + rom - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hello.
I can't seem to find the info, has the Canadian G6 been unlocked? Also are the US roms compatible with the H873? I'm considering getting one but want to be able to run custom roms.
Thanks!

The only us variant unlockable is the US997 without carrier and without any other numbers or letter :good:

Is it possible to unlock without lg's help?

Very much. Actually it seems someone is working on it in the bounty thread for H870DS

Wrong forum, the G900F is the International variant and this forum is for SM-G900V, the Verizon variant.

Sorry, why buy an SM-G900V when what you likely need is an SM-G900F?

because I ran out cellphone in the states and a family member gave me without knowing that there were differences between these two.
and I would not say, no thanks, especially when we were going off to the airport

So you're asking if you can flash the SM-G900F stock rom on a SM-G900V? Before even answering that question you would need un unlocked bootloader which is less than likely. And even if you had one, what you propose would more than likely result in a brick.

Fair enough. You may have to wait for root to be able to modify then. Sorry for the inconvenience.

but it is possible since the bootloader is unlocked, right?
I do not think wrong?
as long i get rooted the cellphone the chances of brick the phone are minor?

Verizon Bootloaders are NOT unlocked... I don't know where you found that, but Verizon has not offered these phones unlocked to my knowledge.

I know that.
what I said was "since the bootloader is unlocked" and "i get rooted the cellphone", meaning when there is a way to unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
Thank for yours replies.

Nope, as happened on G5.
You probably have to wait an unofficial way to unlock the bootloader...

This is not true. VS995 is not officially supported on the LG Site: https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
They simply found a way to do it unofficially, and this has been fixed with security patcher afaik

Yes and no. Try looking around this forum at least a LITTLE before you ask for help. There are plenty of guides.

It means some can and some can't. Go read the guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/official-lg-g6-bootloader-unlock-t3614719
This tells you everything you need to know. If you still can't figure it out after that, you're probably better off not rooting.
LG G6 variants H870+US997 can have bootloader unlocked and be rooted with general ease.

Not completely correct. It depends where your US997 comes from. US Cellular US997 devices can't currently be unlocked.

Does Magisk work on this model with 7.0?

Seems like it's not possible to get a straight answer.
Thanks.

Magisk requires an unlocked bootloader of which the u.s. snapdragon models do not have. Your straight answer is no it does not.

How to know if my G6 can be unlocked?

Hello, I got LG G6. and due to the lack of updates, I want to unlock the Bootloader and Flash a ROM on the device.
I Got the H870 Model, is all the H870 models are unlockable?
How can I know the exact model of the phone (I saw there is H870DS or something like that too)?
Thanks in advance!
