[RECOVERY] TWRP 3.0.2.0 for the Idol 4S - 6055U - Alcatel Idol 4S Guides, News, & Discussion

CRICKET
IDOL 4S - 6055U
TWRP Recovery

Okay guys and gals, what we have here is a modified version of Deckers TWRP 3.0.2.0 Recovery. Modified?!?! How?!?! Well... let me explain. Even though we all initially used his recovery to get root, it wasn't meant for the 6055U. With me being a little OCD about things, I decided to modify it to reflect our variant. Not only does this version reflect our devices model information, it also has the latest 6055U kernel (3CCJUCJ0).
Okay... You flashed it.... how do you know it worked? After you flash, simply boot back into TWRP Recovery and plug your phone into a computer.
In Windows your phone should show up like this...
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then in Ubuntu your phone should show up like this...
Below you will find two attachments, one is a Flashable Zip that will update your current TWRP Recovery to this one. The other is a recovery-twrp.img, which you will need if reflashing with Sugar QCT.
Flashable Zip
recovery-twrp.img
I want to add that this particular recovery WILL be required when I release my upcoming rom, RoxIDOL 4S SLIM. This is simply to prevent accidental cross flashing.
Special thanks goes out to DeckerSU, without him our IDOL's would SUCK!! Thanks Man!!
As always, I will not be responsible for ANYTHING.... by downloading and flashing this recovery you take all resposibility!

To do this, the bootloader must be open. But I did not do it. My device is 6070K. Can you help me for bootloader unlock bro?

Hi The capes crew,
Is your TWRP version also suitable for the Idol 4 6055K ?
Will you produce a rom for 6055K ?
What about LineageOs for our Idol 4/4S phones ?

As far as the 6055K goes, Decker's TWRP was already designed for it. You wouldn't see any benefit in my recovery. LineageOS is still out of our reach since our bootloader is still locked.

OK, that's what I thought about your TWRP version.
As you said our bootloader is locked ; I'm not a specialist so, how will your ROM (hope it will be ok for 6055K) work ?
Thanks for your answer.

Not sure about the 6070K, but on the 6055 model you don't need the bootloader to be unlocked to achieve root. A word of advice, do not flash anything related to the 6055 to your 6070. I would highly doubt compatibility.

I understand. Thank you for your reply, I will have to wait for the 6070k model. I hope a helpful developer will support us.

By the way, in another thread, someone wrote yesterday that, finally, we could have a Nougat update for our idols. Do you think such an update could help developers like you to create new rom (I mean that it should be a whole system update....) ?

Hi everybody, is there any way to root an Alcatel Idol 4S 6070K? If I understand well, this TWRP is not suitable for 6070K, right?
Thanks!

Nope bro There is no method for 6070K. I am a 6070K user, I am looking forward to researching, tried all root methods programs but I have not found a solution. There are very few developer friends will help us. We have no choice but to wait...

I think nobody will develop a way to root this phone, because it's not so new.

Sorry my bad english
Actually there is someone who is interested but he does not do it without donation. It's a very nice phone, but unfortunately it's not popular because there are not many people using it. Most developers do not work for this phone though.

Just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to TheCapesCrew for putting together the modified TWRP, and DeckerSU for making the original. I would also like to thank TheCapesCrew in advance for all the work on roms and etc that is being done.

I have the 6055U from cricket, that means i have the 4S right? got about 7 hours into it but cannot get twrp booted for some reason. tried everything to no avail. I need some help guys. I read its all about timing but i guess im just not understanding when that time is supposed to be. I've tried right as it's finishing the whole process, i've tried right after the recovery file has been written, still no go. sugar updated my phone no problem to newest version. Please help guys!!
Another thing I notice is that it always resets my phone after the process. I have no option in sugar to specify deleting everything. I see it listed but its not a selectable option. Are we sure this still works being on stock with newest qct sp and newest rom update?
Also, as long as you dont close sugar, the files stay and are not overwritten again. so i'm positive that the recovery file is the correct one im trying to write over. Does anyone have the files for sugar for the older update? my phone first said security patch of september 2016 and now it's saying july of 2017

How I finally got my TWRP to boot, I think, was by doing a factory reset, which I think wipes the phone encryption. To the people who got this working, did TWRP stick for you or do you have to repeat the process every time you want to boot TWRP? I got my TWRP to stick after reboots and power off. I made backups straight away after getting TWRP to boot. My plan is to start working on Bliss rom and CM13 but I'm not sure what all can be done with the locked bootloader. If anyone knows the limitations of custom rom making with a locked bootloader, please enlighten me. I also am able to use my hotspot and USB tether on my unlimited plan without having to modify any files. Simply install titanium backup and delete the app entitlement file. I was also able to edit my build.prop file and disable the stupid cricket boot sound and disabled the USB debugging notify message that wouldn't go away. I now love my Cricket Idol4 6055U.

I just wanted to make this perfectly clear: DO NOT use this kernel on a Verizon variant (almost impossible as it hasn't been officially released). This kernel is not signed and the bootloader will error out. You'll then be soft bricked until you flash a signed kernel in Odin.
Visual proof...first the signed unsecure kernel that allowed first root on the VZN SGS4 (notice the signature at the bottom):

Now your boot.img....which is missing the signature:
Again, please folks...do NOT flash this if you don't have an unlocked bootloader and an original kernel backup. Things could get REAL UGLY, REAL FAST.
Confirmed variants for various countries
SM-N9002 Dual Sim variant for Chinese Market
SM-N9005 LTE variant
SM-N900K for KT Telecom South Korea
SM-N900L for LGU+ South Korea
SM-N900S for SK Telecom South Korea
SM-N900A for AT&T United States
SM-N900T for T-Mobile USA
SM-N900V for Verizon Wireless
SM-N900,International variant
SLC22 for KDDI AU Japan
SGH-N075 and SGH-N099 for NTT Docomo Japan

Since it's now VERY obvious you are not the author of this kernel, I will try to explain what I think happened. The person that created this kernel probably (and I say probably because I'm not going to waste the time and bandwidth to download 1.9GB of software I don't need) downloaded the leaked firmware and extracted the boot.img. He then made two minor adjustments that gave root access and repackaged the kernel. This probably took all of two minutes. I haven't looked at the original boot.img, but there's a 99% chance this gives root on a N9005.
There's a 50/50 chance it will work on any other N3 variant that doesn't have a locked bootloader. It depends entirely on how closely the keys match. In the US, this means Sprint, T-mobile, and sometimes AT&T. The S4's bootloader was locked by AT&T and I'm expecting the N3's to be as well. Verizon is almost always locked unless you buy a developer edition phone. A locked bootloader will fail to boot an unsigned kernel and the phone will be soft bricked.
This is one of the reasons unlocking a bootloader is so important to people that enjoy customizing their Android phones. It allows for custom recovery installation, custom kernel (which can then be unsigned), and custom ROM installation. Root can still be achieved with a locked bootloader, but it is much more difficult.

Korea Telecom (KT) Anyone?
Has anyone tried rooting the SM-N900K?
Does the galaxy3root dot com method work?
Terrified of trying this for fear that it will brick my device.
I'm trying to figure out why anyone would try this, when Chainfire has done his thing, is this to try and avoid the counters being triggered or something?
Edit: Scratch that.... just noticed the dates.... didn't realise how far down the forum list I'd scrolled in tapatalk haha.

SM-N915S/K Root

Root confirmed working for Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Exynos Korea SM-N915 "S" via the legend Chainfire CF-Auto-Root
FOR THE MOST CURRENT ROOT METHOD, PLEASE REFER TO THIS THREAD >> [INFO] [CF-Auto-Root] Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915
WARNING : KNOX COUNTER WILL BE TRIPPED AND WARRANTY VOID - THERE IS NO CURRENTLY KNOWN METHOD TO RESET THE COUNTER OR ROOT WITHOUT TRIPPING KNOX !!
I used : SM-N910"K" (Korea, Exynos): CF-Auto-Root-treltektt-treltektt-smn910k.zip . Another user in this thread had reported that using the SM-N910 "S" Cf-Autoroot failed to boot, so I instead tried the "K" and success. All THANKS & credit to @Chainfire, if you require the stock recovery for SM-N915S, I'd gladly send it to you if you require it to make a formal Cf-Autoroot for our device.
Root has also been confirmed using the same method and file for SM-N915"K" here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56761632&postcount=34
Method:
1. Advised: Have a full stock firmware package available (just in case) [sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com]
2. Have Samsung USB drivers installed on Windows PC (Easiest way is DL KIES from Samsung)
3. Flash via Odin [I used Odin3 v3.07 - attachment] as per Chainfire's instructions !
** If unsure how to use Odin, there are many guides found by searching !
4. Wait around 30 secs after flash (stuck on boot screen), and hopefully device will boot.
5. Open SuperSU app and update SU if prompted
Note: You will have installed stock Android system recovery for SM-N910K. This should not affect the operation of the ROM.

Silly question, but what would be the benefit of rooting this model of Edge right now? I ask coz there's no custom rom available atm.

You can then manual theme things.
After my samsung s2 i just stuck with stock rooted roms. Removed things i didnt want.

That's what I need, there's a lot of Korean apps on my phone. I have disabled some but they still show up here an there. Another very annoying thing is the dailer, it has Korean text on it which I want to remove as I only want English.
I'd be happy if I could remove some of those apps, and add the yahoo and twitter panels.
Do you think I'd able to flash an international version rom my Edge at some point?
Thanks.

I am unsure on that. The processor is different I believe and that would be a main thing.
But with root you would be able to change most of the apps and you might be able to set up the build.prop to a USA one that should let you add yahoo and get to the USA panel store.

Apart from removing a few "useless" apps, able to use various root type apps (properly) such as Greenify, Titanium, Synapse etc.
But the main reason is to control a custom kernel I intend to build (time permitting). Also remove knox features and set SELinux permissive for Titanium Backup app to work correctly.
In future, I might look at a very basic ROM, but NOT on my to-do list

Post in Q&A where your "question" belongs.
It's OT and nothing to do with my general statement of intention to develop this beast (when I get my hands on it).
I'm going to start taking a look at kernel sources sometime today/tomorrow, so I get a head start before the device arrives (Friday? )

G4 bootloop problem - poll

Hello, this poll is all about to find out how many people having bootloop problem in their g4 beyond their capacity to solve or beyond their acknowledgement why this situation happened in the first place. I myself is a sufferer for this. And I see there are some other people also who are having such issues but cannot solve the problem. Many of them do not apply warrenty policy. So some serious help needed here. So this poll will do 2 things:
1. How many people having bootloop problem that isn't solved by now.
2. What was the software condition (broadly) in their devices.
I am not a big fan of polling. But I believe this is a way to gain attraction of the important people who can solve the problem. Plus many can be aware of what they should and should not do with their devices i.e. unlocking bootloader, rooting, flashing international rom or custom rom etc. In that faith, let's start.

Custom ROM; Locked BL; Rooted; other than H815 for me, but my BL is unlocked (T-Mobile variant)
Someone told me in G+ that there has been a report of some kind of problem of some devices manufactured before Oct 12. and Sprint has been pulling in all their stocks. Does anyone know about this?

launch day AT&T H810 on 10e software, rooted not unlocked, stock ROM. Got in a bootloop, random reboots, sometimes wouldn't turn on. Had to warranty it to AT&T.

That's what I thought at first. but more n more I am getting to know about the fact, it's actually a hardware issue and it's LG's fault, not users.

H815 Euro BL Unlocked, flashed H81520A via zips and now Bootlooping at LG Logo , no access to TWRP
I have been digging the issue. What I found is
1. A good number of people are having the problem.
2. Provided solution: Changing the motherboard or Replacement of the device
3. Rumour: G4's before September 2015 have major design flaws. Sprint has been pulling in all their devices and giving replacement of the complained devices or offering other devices.
(I have attached screenshots of a community of Sprint users)
If this is real, why we people have to be sufferer? Those who cannot claim warrenty or have unlocked bootloader will do what? In my screenshots, u will find that, some sprint guy saying that it's a known issue. If it's a known issue, why not LG addressing it publicly and helping the buyers?
I have compiled some xda screenshots also to address the severity of the problem.

Had my motherboard replaced. They also replaced the original battery. Pre-ordered the phone a month before it was released here in Sweden. So I guess I got one of the early ones.

My phone suddenly boot looped yesterday while using google map navigation.
Was using rooted H815_V10E system image http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/h815-eu-l-p-t-sea-twn-t3176195 .
I went from original H815 sea 10a to OTA 10b to original H815 eu 10e kdz to rooted H815 eu 10e system image.
I dropped the phone at least 20times?
I installed original xposed apk on my phone but it says it wasnt supported around 1 month ago from the app itself. I didnt do anything after that.
But yesterday , i click the uninstall button in xposed app in the morning and phone suddenly boot looped in the afternoon. Download mode works , kdz original sea 10b, still boot loop. Tried to kdz original eu 10e , but download mode didnt work , hard brick

New software version L720VPSGPL1

HI,
While in the process of resetting my phone, I checked for update and was informed of a new download. After installing it, the software version is now L720VPSGPL1. I googled this but nothing came up. Anyone else getting this update? I'm in the U.S. if that makes any difference.
Thanks

HI,
I'm from Russia, I also received an update to version L720VPSGPL1
Sorry for my English
Found a link through Bing but not sure who operates this site:
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=SPH-L720
I received it too last week and posted in the rdf forum. I too haven't been able to find any info about it with. Sprint hasn't posted a change log either.
Update is available, but the update failed because apparently something changed my build.prop. Anyone know where to find unmodified files from the original version?
Is this version rootable? If updating a rooted phone, does it unroot?

It will fail and possibly brick your phone if you try to update with a modified system (root, custom recovery, etc). Download the OK3 tar from www.sammobile.com and flash with Odin. Then you can update to PL1. From what I've seen it's only a security update.

Yes. Same root method as previous versions.
I've been searching around a bit, anyone know off top of head what the newest (available) modem is to download standalone?

Managed to dump an unmodified build.prop from stock ROM. Did a hex compare to mine, only difference is 2 hex bytes appended, 0A 0A. I guess some app that needed root modified my build.prop and when I uninstalled it, it changed it back but not cleanly. Anyway, copied clean build.prop to /system, then let the phone update and it succeeded. Figured it wouldn't hurt anything as I could re-flash with Odin if it bricked. Lucked out and phone update succeeded. Now on PL1 and didn't even lose root.
My wife is traveling to Russia in about 2 weeks. Wanted to UNLOCK the phone so she can buy a local SIM card and use her phone while visiting. Called Sprint and they said they unlocked phone, but not sure how to tell what (if anything) changed.
Is there a method to SIM unlock (and/or carrier unlock) with the PL1 baseband software?

There is a program called GTUpdate2_v3.1.8.apk that can unlock PL1 on a rooted phone. I think it's not a free software, but someone posted a link to it on the forums once.
I think without root, the program should at least tell you if the phone is unlocked.

It might be hard to find as the developer has asked all links to it be taken down.
Got root using cf auto root and confirmed it with root checker and busy box. Also installed twrp through the twrp app and no brick yet. Don't know which rom I can install yet. It's been a while since I've rooted and romed a phone. Kinda forgot how that works, well not the flashing the rom part but if this Pl1 firmware will cause problems with a rom I flash lol . Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

I could not find the application, and when my wife got there, she's getting an "Invalid SIM" message on her phone. So she's going to buy a phone to use while there. Thanks for all the help in this thread!
Can anyone tell me where I can find current instructions to ROOT my Sprint Galaxy S4? It currently has the updated software (L720VPSGPL1). What I've found seems to be outdated.
I would also like to ROM using the Wicked. Sounds like it's clean and fast.

I did try your rom 1st and I got bootlooped. Have been running resection 6.0 rom and haven't had any issues yet. I will try yours again. Not sure if I saw 2 versions of it or not, but if I did which one should I try. I like switching things up from time to time, but I used to like having at least 2 properly functioning roms saved to my phone incase. TIA

v11.0 is just a small update, so you have to flash the full ROM first which is V10.9. There is also the Bare Bones version which is just super debloated.
I'm confused on the versioning. Alphabetically, VPS comes before VPU, so I was thinking that "VPSGPL1" was older. Obviously versioning rules come fast & loose, but I'm curious what the VPS indicates that is different from VPU.
So then is this the correct order for different modems?
Code:
L720VPUFNAE
L720VPUGOD2
L720VPUGOK3
L720VPSGPL1

Lenovo TAB 4 8 (TB-8504F) Firmware catastrophe

I've recently been having issues with a tablet device of mine (Lenovo Tab 4 8 TB-8504F) which I tried to downgrade to Android Nougat from the latest and very unstable Android Oreo version that was on it using QPST and a "Stock Firmware" from FirmwareFile.com (Bad idea) The funny thing was.... It wasn't. I tried to go back using their official repair tool (Rescue and Smart Assistant) and I ended up with an even more broken version of Android Oreo with no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capability. Now I'm stuck with a tablet with no internet access. I know for a fact that the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work, it's just I can't seem to find an actual official Firmware for my device. Hope someone can help.
They don't offer any repair tools(from what i know), they do give a tool to flash it though, format it using recovery then flash it using their tool, this did work for me, then i flashed patched magisk file, hope this helps.

follow the guide on how to use the flashing tool (you have to make it match the config with the rom that's why it's broken)

follow the guide on how to use the flashing tool (you have to make it match the config with the rom that's why it's broken), It should unbrick your device although it will wipe your data since it will flash your entire device. Make sure that the firmware also matches with your device.

I would imagine that their official tool https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/downloads/ds101291-rescue-and-smart-assistant-lmsa
would give me the correct one. It downloads it from their official servers using the Serial Number S/N to identify what you should get. but with my problems, I think you can tell it doesn't work. hence why I'm stuck.
But in recent hours I've managed to be able to get into TWRP (Bootloader is now also unlocked if useful), but whatever action I do e.g. Install .zip or Backup, it just has a scrolling bar and that's it. it does nothing else. I have no idea why it's doing such an odd thing. despite using the "Best Version" for my device according to a comment on a post I've seen in past.
twrp-3.3.1-1-TB8504 is the build I'm using if you can find it.

Edit: I sadly don't feel comfortable giving my address to a website I have no past affiliation with.
Edit 2: I curved, and it was for nothing. Supposedly I need to "Buy A Package". What Kind of world would someone pay for software you used to have!
Thanks anyways!

I've used over 5 different firmware files, they all either have no Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, or are not official and are filled with bloatware or are missing whole suites of software. The official tool that I sent a link to (The Lenovo Recovery Software) Only gives the choice of one firmware that IS official. but it doesn't have any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on my device.
I know it's not an issue with hardware for sure.

neat, okay now I know where I went wrong. but firmwarefile.com doesn't have any QcomDloader firmwares that I can actually download. I need to get a link to one. would you be able to see whether you can find one that works? (Make sure it ends with ROW Cause that's what the original firmware was)
The only ones I can find are on Google Drive and they end with this page...
Strange enough It's been like this for over a year and a half. (how long I've had the device like this)
And that's why I never used the tool cause it has a lot harder of firmware to get.
