Hey! My samsung galaxy j320ag was shipped from The US as a gift, unlocked but the hotspot doesn't work out of the box. Every time I tick the hotspot switch, it reverts to off! I followed the rooting method here and have successfully gained root privileges and now I ask, is there any root method available to make the hotspot functional? Everything else works I. E WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.
Heres the modified apk

Thanks bro, i backed up the original with ZipMe first but after flashing the downloaded zip, hotspot doesn't even try to turn on, so I flashed the backup. Any other solution?
@brainycaleb
I edited the link above. Same apk, just fixed the updater-script
I will try it now and give you feedback ASAP
Didn't work, still same issue
Dang...I would like to get it figured out. If your down for more testing ill tear apart tethering from an AG. Lmk
Bring it on @DamienMc
@brainycaleb give this a try https://mega.nz/#!GxpTmTgJ!3lnSQpYFq_AqbyDsCgigleWjrtESlJt96Bm_3CiBFZg

anyone out there using wifi tether either rooted or not.
I did the latest system update, rooted device and I can't get wifi tether to work anymore. Tried replacing services.jar and services.odex, tried wifi tether for root users, barnacle, and even foxfi.
Nothing works.
I know I can revert back to before system update. Just wondering if there are any other ideas out there.
Bluetooth tether isn't working for me on MDL with root. I have not reflashed the hotspot mod.

You mean MDL?
Yes, I'm on MDL.
One other note ... my phone never did hands free activation, so there are no sprint aps installed, no spritnt zone, no sprint loading picture, etc ...
I can not get hotspot mod to work or anything. Perhaps not doing hands free activation precludes hotspot from working.
I updated and reinstalled and it will connect but only has limited connection and will not work.
Earlier today my whole google voice integration got screwed up today with this system update. I had to take my phone into sprint for them to hard reset it then re-flash it and then reprogram the phone.
I have confirmation ... It doesnt work because sprint apps were never installed with hands free activation.
Nothing to do with MDL vs MDC.
I would Odin flash MDL which will load all the apps.
I redid mine and followed everything as written and it works great. I had messed it up from the first time by downloading the apps that I had before updating that had some files from old (MDC) .
First off, hi everyone. This is my first post here after browsing for a few weeks. Yesterday I went ahead and rooted my AT&T s4 with the whole reason for doing so wanting to use wireless hotspot for free, and it isn't working.
Tl;dr I tried the TetheringProvision.apk mod technique and it just crashes my settings menu.

After softbricking my phone and having to bring it into att 2 days ago I finally figured out a method of rooting it. I got this phone very recently and it came with the 4.4.2 (NB1) update pre-installed. I used the downgrade/root/safestrap method (using the OTA zip method because the stock with root zip wouldn't get past the att splash screen) and am back on 4.4.2/NB1. Everything is working, root included (verified by successfully changing system file names), but when I try to put in the TetheringProvision.apk file that used to work for the hotspot on my old MK2 phone from some other thread on this forum it just crashes my settings menu. The error I get is a "settings has stopped" popup and it kicks me out right when I move the "mobile hotspot on" slider. I'm really hoping there's a simple solution here, but if worst comes to worst I guess I'll just have to try a different rom? Attached is a screen shot of my about device. I really hope someone will be able to help, thanks in advance.
Ok, so I'm now thinking about backing up this rom in safestrap, and re-flashing the backup I made of the MK2 downgrade that I used to install the root. The problem with that was the wifi not working, but I just found a post about bypasslkm. Only problem is that I don't fully understand how to use bypasslkm and even through search I can't find a good guide on it. Could anyone here walk me through the dumbed down version of how to use it? From what I understand I flash the bypasslkm.zip just like I would any other rom, but I don't really get what to do after that. I'm kind of surprised that I'm the first one to have either of these issues, I couldn't find any good information via search.

There is a tethering AddOn in the same NB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM & NB1 KeepRoot OTA zip thread that you can flash in safestrap.
I have a AT&T S5 and would like to enable native tethering. I mostly need it to USB tether to another android device. I rooted my device using the Towelroot method and then followed these directions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791938 and installed Xposed framework to enable tethering. It all worked but Xposed made my phone really laggy. I uninstalled it and now it's back to normal performance. I was wondering if there was an alternative method for enabling tethering by like manually replacing or editing the tethering files. I saw some guides that covered this for the GS4, but I wanted to make sure whatever I was doing would work fine on the GS5/Kit Kat. Thanks
EDIT: I found these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784945 and that appears to have fixed it for me.
It seemed the instructions to root my s4 were simple enough with odin so I started it but when I rebooted and got ready to use towel root it said I needed a wife connection but it wouldn't turn on. it seems this has been a common problem but none of the fixes worked for me. At this point I need the necessary files to flash back to a workable system. None I have tried have gotten wife to work. I also might need a new pit file as well. Can anybody direct me, nothing I have tried yet has fixed this for me. I don't have to root, I just want wifi fixed, thanks
So I recently got a new Galaxy S6 [SM-G920T1] from MetroPcs and figured out I could finally use the Wi-Fi Hotspot feature, But after a few days they sent me a message saying 10℅ data left for wifi Hotspot. I was freaked because that whole time I thought that I had unlimited data. So Eventually I figured "well I could just do what I did on my old phone, Freeze Teather Provision!" So I went on Titanium Backup and then I accdently deleted it! (Ikr I'm a noob.) So anyway, now wifi Hotspot won't work, I tried everything from flashable zips to ADB pushing on the computer. But nothing will work. Can someone PLEASE give me a flashable zip or something that actually works for my phone? Lol.
Download the firmware with the same model and baseband version use odin to install the md5 file do not factory reset.
