Hi guys, the v2.2.0 release broke the ability to root without side effects on the Google Play Store, but a workaround is provided in the post. In this version, VPN works.
Notes:
A fresh install is highly recommended.
In this version, rooting breaks something with Gmail and Calendar causing them to not be able to sync. If you really need those apps, I recommend not rooting POS.
Instructions:
Download the correct correct system.img.7z file provided in the Download section and extract it
Install Phoenix OS.
Go to C:\Phoenix OS (or wherever your Phoenix OS installation is) and replace the system.img file with the one you just downloaded and extracted
Boot into Phoenix OS and finish the system initialization wizard.
Install Google Play Services v11.0.56: (x86 | x64)
Open Play Store, sign in with your Google Account, install the latest version of SuperSU by clicking the Update button.
-(Optional) If you for some reason cannot use the Play Store, you can find SuperSU on the official thread. Download the flashable zip, extract Superuser.apk from the common folder, and install it in Phoenix OS by opening the .apk file with the default file manager that comes with the OS. You don't have to do this step if SuperSU updated successfully in the Play Store.
Open SuperSU, click Normal to update the binary, and your Phoenix OS should now be fully rooted.

x64: Google Drive | MEGA

Thank you! Let me know if you run into any issues.
I'm sorry for the noob question, but does this wipe all data from a previous install? if so, is there a way to update without losing the data?

If you do a fresh install, then yes. You could try just replacing the system.img and see if it still works fine. Might want to backup the folder first before doing that though. Let me know if it works for you.

Highly unlikely. I recommend joining the Phoenix OS discord server
I have just installed Phoenix OS on my laptop (dual boot - .exe) and installed many apps too (like ig, fb, chrome, games, etc.)
If I root with this method (replace original system image with the rooted image), what will affects?
My installed apps will gone or not?
Thank you.

According to what users reported, your installed apps will not be affected I do prefer to replace it right after a clean install, but if that's the situation you're in, you could just replace the system.img without it affecting your data.img. If you're unsure, just do a backup/copy of the whole Phoenix OS folder if things go wrong

You can use RMXtools v1.8. It will involve extracting your system.img, injecting rooted files, and rebilding the system.img.
Hello.
Sorry, but I'm not in that topic I ask, does this OS support UEFI Secure boot?

UPDATE May 28th, 2017: This guide is no longer supported and probably doesn't work. Please don't use it or ask for support anymore.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genymotion is a Virtual Android Environment built on x86 and Virtualbox. It's not an ARM emulator so it's performance is way better than the Android SDK Emulator. However in their latest update they've removed both ARM Translation and Google Play Apps. (This is what causes the "INSTALL_FAILED_CPU_ABI_INCOMPATIBLE" errors) Many Devs and Users still find these features very useful for various reasons and their removal has forced people to look for alternatives to Genymotion.
This guide is for getting back both ARM Translation and Google Play apps in your Genymotion VM.
ATTENTION(April 11th): Sadly Dropbox has informed me I've surpassed reasonable Bandwidth Usage and has temporarily disabled my Public Links. I don't blame them considering I've reached a steady 1400+ downloads per day, which equals an impressive 12.5+GB of bandwidth per day. Part of this is probably because people started Hot Linking my file for their guides. So for the foreseeable future I can't provide direct downloads of the ARM Translation, but I'll have plenty of Mirrors. I'm sorry to the numerous people that created Guides in numerous languages, since I have to kill the link in your Guides. Please don't hesitate to use one of my new links.
PS: I'm sorry if I haven't been very talkative and helpful lately. Work has been piling up and sleep is decreasing. Plus my computer is being "difficult". Haven't had a chance to even update Genymotion to v2.2.0. I hope I'll be able to get back into the dirt soon.
Note(Feb 2nd): Contrary to previous reports, it's been discovered that Android 4.4 does in fact work with ARM Translation, although it is buggy. Follow the steps the same as before, just make sure you download the 4.4 GApps.
UPDATE-v1.1: I've gotten more up-to-date builds of libhoudini and have updated the ZIP. This fixes a lot of app crashes and hangs. Just flash the new one and it should work.
Download the following ZIPs:
ARM Translation Installer v1.1 Hosted by FILETRIP(Mirrors) - If you have issues flashing ARM Trnaslation, Try re-downloading from a mirror
Download the correct GApps for your Android version:
If you have issues flashing GApps, Try re-downloading from a mirror
Google Apps for Android 4.4(Mirror)(Download from CM11 Links)(4.4 GApps might be buggy)
Google Apps for Android 4.3(Mirrors)
Google Apps for Android 4.2
Google Apps for Android 4.1
Next Open your Genymotion VM and go to the Homescreen
Now Drag&Drop the Genymotion-ARM-Translation.zip onto the Genymotion VM window.
It should say "File transfer in progress", once it asks you to flash it click 'OK'
Now Reboot your VM using ADB or an app like ROM Toolbox. If nescessary you can simply close the VM window, but I don't recommend it.
Once you're on the Homescreen again Drag&Drop the gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip(or whatever version you got) onto your VM, and click 'OK' when asked
Once it finishes, again Reboot your VM and open the Google Play Store.
Sign in using your Google account
Once in the Store go to the 'My Apps' menu and let everything update(fixes a lot of issues), also try updating Google Play Services directly.
Now try searching for 'Netflix' and 'Google Drive'
If both apps show up in the results and you're able to Download/Install them, then congrats you now have ARM support and Google Play fully setup!
I've tested this on Genymotion v2.0.1 Using Android 4.3 images. Feel free to skip the GApps steps if you only want the ARM support. It'll work perfectly fine by itself.
If you have any problems please don't hesitate to ask for help below.

So far, seems that it's working for people. I've gotten feedback on other sites and I've only had one user report trouble installing GApps. Remember, if you have any issues let me know. I'm currently looking into problems with some Apps and Games that hang when opened.
Thank you very much!
For windows, this procedure requires downloading android SDK then downloading platform tools and messing with your PATH and also installing Java (yikes).
I've searched around for the minimum adb requirements of Genymotion and I'm attaching them for anyone interested.
Just extract anywhere and tell Genymotion the folder you extracted these where it asks for the sdk path.
It includes the mini-sdk (windows-only) from androidforums.com and the aapt uploaded on xda somewhere I don't remember.
The files are in the sub-folders Genymotion expects them to be.
Hope that helps someone.
While dragging and dropping these zip files onto my VM windows, it started to show File transfer in progress but at the same moment throws an error, "An error occured while deploying a file. Process failed to start. The parameter is incorrect.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks.
Edit:
A reboot worked for me. Thanks for this.

Glad it's working. You updated while I was replying so I didn't see it until after I post, and I couldn't delete the post.
I got to the step about drag&dropping Gapps but when I do it just says it was successfully copied to the download folder. That doesn't sound right and nothing else happens after I reboot.

Hmmm, I got similar errors, but updating all the apps through Google Play and rebooting cleared them up. Can you post a logcat? Also try making a second VM using a different Android image and try installing in that.
If you keep having issues you might have to uninstall Genymotion and make sure all it's registry entries are deleted, before reinstalling Genymotion. For some reason the Genymotion Uninstaller doesn't do a proper job of removing everything. But I had weird issues myself until I did a clean install.

I did do an update of all the apps that needed updating. Also I uninstalled Genymotion using Revo pro, that scanned and removed all the leftover registry and files, then rebooted then ran Wise Care 365 which is a general file and registry cleaner, Then rebooted again and installed Genymotion ( the one without Virtaulbox because I already have the latest version installed for other purposes).
Sorry, but I'll have to get back to it at a later date.
Thank for you help.
In addition to these errors, the Virtual machine crashes with a message that player has crashed or something with the network is bad, but the network settings are blank as they should be.
I will try the other suggestions now.
Is there another way to install gapps other than drag&dropping the zip, since that isn't working for me (it just copies the file to sdcard/downloads)?

Yeah I've been getting several reports of Genymotion doing that. The function is supposed to copy it to the Download folder and then flash it from there, but there must be a bug that's preventing it. To do it manually, just use Root Explorer to extract the ZIP and then copy the "system" folder you extracted on top of your "/system" folder(Root Explorer should automatically ask to remount the partition as Read-Write), and it should ask if you want to merge the two. Say yes, and then when it asks to overwrite a file just say yes. Reboot and you should have Google Apps installed.
NOTE: Just in case something goes wrong, you should backup the System partition by Opening Virtualbox, Right-Clicking your VM, Select 'Show In Explorer', and then copy the "android_system_disk.vmdk" to a safe location.
Thanks for the tips. I'll have to do some research on some of this since I'm not a developer, I just enjoyed having an android device on my computer.
Edit: Strange, I extracted it, then when I go to the extracted folder there's nothing in it. Oh, I just realized Windows won't open it either. Maybe the download was messed up.
Edit 2: Nope, downloaded again, this time the file size is 1kb bigger (8kb total) but the same things happens, empty extracted folder. This is from the gapps for 4.3 zip on page 1.
Edit 3: Problem solved. 8kb seemed awfully small so I went directly to goo.im and found the real file size is 87.5MB! A little different. This time everything works perfectly except that I have to manually open VirtualBox Manager first but that's no big deal.

Does 'adb install' from a PC work?
Many of the gapps APKs are required to be in /system so they can't be installed via 'adb install' or any other method. Maybe the APK you're trying to install has a dependency on gapps.
Google apps, as well as apps that rely on the APIs they expose (mapping is common) are a tightly intertwined mess. You'll get seemingly silent install errors because you're missing libraries, for example. Trying to restore apps through Titanium Backup will similarly fail if they are missing required libraries.
They generally will show up though logcat if you look carefully. Resolving the issue requires the sufficiently complete and self-consistent (sub-) set of Gapps.

Hey,
did somebody try to install Xposed Framework on the book?
Its normal Android 6.0.1, so it should be work. It must be the x86 version right?
I personally have not tried doing this, but I've had a quick look around, and it seems entirely possible. It doesn't seem like Xposed depends on the actual hardware, but more on the software side - and since Lenovo's ROM is fairly close to stock Android M, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
I don't have the Android version of the Yoga Book, so I can't test this for you, but so long as you make a backup, all the hard work has already been done for you if this is something you want.

Hmm... Technically the Yoga Book is using the x86_64. However, the error your getting refers to something missing. So perhaps it's as simple as when you downloaded the file, something got left behind. Double check the checksum, or if you don't know how just re-download the file (the arm64 one)... If that doesn't work then maybe it does in fact need its own x86_64 build.
I'll have a look, but try once more.

I've had a quick look around and I've found that you do need to have a specially built version for x86_64, so you're not doing anything wrong. It doesn't look like many people have done it, but it has been achieved before. So if you have the time it may be something to do (or look further into the forums for a version of Xposed).
Hope I've helped at all, I'll try dig a little deeper later on.

I'm still having a look around, but before I shove more test builds down your throat for you to see if they work I need to ask; do you know how to fix a boot-loop? Because that may happen and I can't be liable for your device.
But if you're cool with that, I'll give you more things to test out ;D
On my Note 10.1 and Oneplus 3 I had some Bootloops during installing ROMs. The different was that TWRP was installed directly on the device. So I did a full wipe with it and bootloop are gone.
Is it the same here? Only that I habe to load TWRP manually with ADB? If so, then we can try.

Yeah, I mean you can install TWRP on your device, it's just not recommended at the moment as it can be unstable. But yeah, it's basically the same here.
Have you got your device Rooted? Because I'd like to test out Magisk's Xposed version on x86_64. It doesn't say that it supports it or not... and I'm not sure if it's just implied from the original compatibility. But I guess now is a good time to find out, and I'll be able to update my Megathread with the information.
To install it (assuming you're Rooted via Magisk - if not, my Megathread has the information) just download the Magisk Manager app from the Play Store, go to the "Downloads" section, and download the latest SDK version (I think it's 24 or 23...) and install that (if the option is there). Once that's done downloading, just go to this page and download the Material Design Xposed Installer, and follow the instructions there.
Hopefully that should work... but if not, that just means we're going to have to do more experimenting!
Installer link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/material-design-xposed-installer-t3137758
No success. If I try to install the Framework with Material Design Xposed I get the error message "Error 1 occured" either with x86 and arm64 file.

You need to download the Xposed SDK via the Magisk Manager with Magisk installed. There is no x86 or arm64 version of either. Also make sure you don't have the original Xposed Installer on your device, these two installers are incompatible.
Follow these steps:
1. Uninstall any version of Xposed you have of the original/official version
2. Install Magisk (check my Megathread for more information on that)
3. Download and install the Magisk Manager from the Play Store
4. Download the Xposed SDK (latest version) from inside the Magisk Manager
5. Download and install the unofficial Material Design Xposed Installer from the link before
6. Install Xposed from the Magisk Manager

Hmph. Well that is disappointing. I'm not sure if you've looked into the actual files of Xposed, but the other day I found that someone made a "patch" for one of the files. If you want to have a look inside the files you download and see if you can find this one, then that may be another experiment we could try.
The file is gistfile1.txt, there's also this extra information "gist:86ac06a6be14a6d9331b" - I don't know if that's anything useful.
My bad, gist is something to do with GitHub. But the contents of the file is still useful, but I don't know which file would need the patching.
The patched file is here, so I'd assume all you have to do is locate that file and replace the contents of it with this patched version, and then try to install Xposed (either via the Magisk method or the official method, up to you).
Hopefully I can either find more information about this patch or find something else you can try. Good luck!

Hmph. Well that is disappointing. I'm not sure if you've looked into the actual files of Xposed, but the other day I found that someone made a "patch" for one of the files. I am having the same problems getting Xposed on this tablet. I tried the methods in this post but still can not get it. I cant find the file the you are referring to change. Anything else to try or maybe there is another way to accomplish what I am trying to do. I am trying to use "Hide Mock Location" to use "Fake GPS" so I can watch baseball on the "MLB at Bat" app. The app blacks out the game if you are in the viewing area. Last year I just used Private Internet VPN and Fake GPS and it worked this year that doesn't. I found this post https://www.comparitech.com/blog/vpn-privacy/mlb-tv-workaround-with-dns-vpn/ when searching that is what I am trying to get Xposed installed. Any ideas would be welcome

Hmm well to my knowledge no one got Xposed to work on the Yoga... but if you managed to follow my tutorial to install Magisk (I don't think SuperSU works) there are a few apps in the Play Store that allow you to set up a "mock location", but they require Root access.

The closest you'll get with Phoenix is getting the ISO which can be found in the first post the above link sends you to. They don't have a github afaik.

how to root 2.03 and install google apps:
-assuming you did a normal install first
-install RMXtools 1.6 + 1.8 fix on windows...
-run RMXtools and extract system.img, root64, rebuild system image same size, now you have a new system rooted then you just need to replace your original system image with this one.
-boot phoenix, supersu should be visible now but you need to update it first with latest beta from xda, then you can update the binary file.
-go to apkmirror and download Google playstore, latest playservices 10.5.55-480, service framework 7.1, Account Manager, One Time Init, Partner Setup.
-install lucky patcher, grant root access, click on rebuild&install, sdcard/download, click on playstore.apk, install as System app, don't reboot yet, do the same for service framework, account manager,OTI, Partner setup, then install play services as a normal app, now you can reboot.
-go to settings / apps, check the permissions for all the apps you just installed (show system)
-go to settings / autorun check to enable play services if it shows
-reboot again and log in, enjoy!!!

Yeah no problem! This image is meant for really messing up your Fire TV Stick 4K in case of major bricks and many other things!
So it's pure stock and can be flashed in twrp?

Yep it all works just fine once flashed, system components can be installed too without TWRP telling it not to, may need to reboot several times till it installs, when you start getting a new update that's not relating to 6.2.7.1 let me know and I'll update this forum. This stock image doesn't get rid of TWRP completely unfortunately.
I'm gonna stick with my pre rooted rbox Rom thanks.. Loving it with play services etc
Hello. How to install this update on a device with root? Root is important to me. Magisk need to be reinstalled?

Yes. You need to download the zip file for Magisk to flash in recovery. Magisk doesn't need to be installed, it's stock so it's not rooted by default.

The closest you can get to is a Magisk addon for gapps. It's quite unstable at the moment as there is testing going on. Xposed is with the module, you may need to enable a separate module on Xposed Installer to enable addons. Link can be found here, it'll tell you how to use it. You need to be on 6.2.6.8 since it's the latest release for now and not 6.2.7.1 yet:

There is no risk of bricking after flashing although it's recommended just to be safe, download and flash Magisk Manager For Recovery. It's in the Magisk addon store.
Does this update resolve the lipsync problem? Even before I applied the unlock and root, VLC player lip sync was noticeably out. After intalling Magisk and Kody, the Kody video player lip sync is also off but not as much as VLC (tested playing video from memory stick). Anyone else see this and resolve? I followed some youtube guide about clearing cache and rebooting and that helped a little but still out of sync.
I finally gave up trying to figure out how to use adb via TWRP and installed the addons package AFTV-MM which claims to do all these settings automatically. That's the point where I installed Kodi and tested the playback of some videos on my memory stick plugged into the USB over OTG. My ultimate goal is to play videos (in voice sync) from my home video media server, accessed over the network.

Yes! The update fixes the problem with lip syncing, and if it still has that problem try going to settings, display and sounds, audio, surround sound, and set that to stereo then reboot.

So with OTG & Mouse and a USB stick with the needed files on it I should boot to TWRP, slide to inturrupt, Install this image you provide via TWRP install, install Magisk 20.3 via TWRP install and finally install AFTV-MM zip via TWRP install and I am done, right? If this is right, I assume I reboot after every zip install or can I do them one after another? How about logging out of my account before, do I do that? What is the exact procedure for dummies. Please over-complicate if possible, I enjoy not making major mistakes due to inexperience. Thanks for your help!

AFTV-MM isn't supported on 6.2.7.1 at all through testings I've made. If you do want to keep AFTV-MM, it's better to stay on 6.2.6.8 as there's no new significant changes with the update to this new image. You can do one after another. Firstly, it's important to flash the image then Magisk and reboot. There is no need to log out of your account due to this update being stock and is acting like it's a new update as if you never unlocked it.
Hi,

Mine is saying "up to date" on 6.2.6.8 so it's possible Amazon pulled the 6.2.7.1 update. I will not be releasing a rom for this until I know they're pushing it again.

Where is the file, do you have a hub on the OTG connection with USB stick plugged in. There should be an option on the Install panel to mount USB storage if I remember correctly.

I uploaded the file to /sdcard/Download/update/ folder.
No OTG connection. Just plain usb to microusb connectors.
BTW as rbox stated up here if really the 6.2.7.1 has been pulled by Amazon maybe it's wise to wait.

Pino.
