Xposed SDK25(Nougat) - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

With SDK25 making it's way around unofficially thanks to the PurifyOS Teamhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-android-nougat-sdk-25-arm64-t3639221/amp/, would there be any chance of it becoming available for LOS ROMs? Right now it's compatible with AOSP and I am really wanting to test it regardless of being on LOS nightly. Would anybody have any objections to me using my phone as a test? Would it brick my phone because I'm not using an AOSP based ROM?

I tried it with both AOSP and LOS. It shouldn't brick your Axon 7, but be careful and follow the preliminary steps in the forum for xposed for nougat. It was pretty good, but some features weren't available, and force closing was definitely present. The fingerprint scanner became sluggish, and the UI was pretty slow for it being clocked at regular speeds with regular interactive governor in use. If you want to, give it a go, but be careful.

[Q] I want to go custom, should I go xposed or cm12?

As the question says, I want one or the other, on lollipop. I want it to be stable. Most of the features in gravity box are also in cm12 so it has peaked my interest. What do yall think?

go with stock xposed if you want stable. i am using it and for the few days i have gravity box/xposed everything works like a charm. cm has a higher chance of random reboots, without saying it is not stable (i didn't try it)
Why not just grab a well-crafted ROM instead of those half-assed attempts such as gravitybox and CM?
I'm running Euphoria and it's been pretty much flawless, with a couple xposed modules running as well. A custom ROM installation doesn't necessarily preclude a bit of xposed micromanagement.
Im a quite few day on CM its stable for me atm

there's no such thing as a "well-crafted ROM",it's still AOSP when you rid of all the facelifting and the fancy features. i've no special education for android devices, but i've used well over 20 different ROMs with the same kernel for different devices and all of them looked and felt the same. i never understood why people empathize that only ROMs make the difference.
I see your point and I agree, in fact I was just suggesting to stay away from CM and GravityBox. I wasn't looking for differences between AOSP ROMs as I've tried my fair share as well and even if they're not that different they're always more reliable than a CM eternal-nightly or an ugly xposed patchwork.
I recommend CyanogenMod - more features .
You have custom recovery, no? Make a nandroid, then try both and decide for yourself.

Thanks for this thread. This is exactly what I've been wondering too. I am on CM based RR ROM and even though the idea of using nougat is quite appealing I'm not sure how much it's worth the whole hassle, specially given I'm too used to RR's huge set of features.
I'll check back to see if someone's answered, and surely post back if I've struck luck with a custom nougat ROM, though I have a feeling it might take some time before a custom athene ROM such as CM or CM based rolls out, and prolly it's worth the wait if I don't have to go back to stock ROM for just a few odd extra features which have largely been ported through mods/apps and implemented in custom ROMs already.

Agreed.
It will take a while for people to start working on Nougat based ROMs. From what I understand, devs are still perfecting the CM bases MM ROMs, which requires a lot of time and effort.
I don't see any Nougat ROM anytime soon, at least not as a stable daily driver. I'm sure our devs are equally thrilled but let's wait it out a little!

There is CM14 on AFH And it's uploaded by @regalstreak ...!!
Don't know anything how it works or why he haven 't shared on XDA...
Edit: It Doesn't boot... Don't use...

is it possible to port oneplus 3/5 rom to op2?

I recently thought about it, since oneplus one got porting from oneplus x. Is it possible same for oneplus 2? If yes, I'm willing to give a try. Just need someone guidance to work under.
@nicesoni_ash @xdvs23
Isn't there a zip already available from op5 to flash on op2 and its working too. So unless you plan to fix panorma on there, go for it.

It is not be possible because of a few reasons: You would have to modifiy an already baked rom to a completely different hardware which is only possible through reverse engineering which is illegal by the way as OOS is not fully open source and you cannot simply copy their device trees. Also we do not have an official kernel source for nougat which means that further modification would be needed to even get the rom to boot.
In the end it is not worth the effort as you probably are not able to reverse engineer the code and even if you did you would end up with a buggy rom that is even harder to fix than normal custom roms. You would have more luck creating a custom rom with an OOS like skin.
I don't think it will work because OP2 latest OOS is MM while OP5 OOS is Nougat. There is a huge incompatibility (which custom roms have to deal with, that's why it works there) so that it won't work.
It might boot but you won't get anything stable.
Even though there is MM OOS for OP3, it is very different from OP2. OP3 has NFC, and the whole OS is different.
But if you still wanna try, good luck!
Apologies. I mistakenly read cam instead of rom and my replies were about that if you notice properly. So ignore my earlier replies as other users replied, I too don't think it's possible.

AOSP rom for SM-G950F?

Right now i only see a resurrection remix one in alpha stage (not sure if its still being developed tho) , the rest are all touchwiz-based.
Anyone knows any other aosp roms available? Thanks!

There's a lineage os which is also in alpha
All of AOSP mentioned above are not yet in its stable form. You may take the risk of trying them
Is there any reason why there really aren't any AOSP ROMs for the S8 yet? Is it just harder to do these days, or can no one be bothered? Just curious.

It is and has been for a very long time incredibly difficult. Touchwiz does not have a HAL that looks anything like the one for aosp, so a porter would need to do an incredible amount of engineering to get anAOSP rom to work on Samsung hardware

GSI ports for Axon 7

Hey everyone
Im wondering if anyone has had the chance to try out any of these ports on their Axon 7. Here is the thread with the issues and instructions on flashing and other files to use:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...velopment/pie-erfan-gsi-ports-t3906486/page21
Here is the page with the GSI ports:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/
Im eager to try 2 of them but there doesnt seem to be a lot of info with the Axon there and many are reporting issues with other phones. Has anyone here tried any of these and had success?
most users with other phones reports issues.
a month ago i tried 2 but none of them booted,im not gonna try again
You should've opened this in the Q&A section.
There's a thread already discussing Pie roms here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/summary-best-pie-roms-to-try-to-moment-t3841784

Those are custom ROMs though. The link is about direct ports from different manufacturers like Samsung UI, Zen UI, Oxygen UI and MIUI. Someone was trying to create bootable GSIs from direct ports of those OSs. I only saw one Axon 7 owner there that tried and now Im looking to see if any other users have tried as well.
Oh, I see.
this is the best ROM

Out of curiosity, Do you personally have any issues with the current build of HavocOS?
I saw that someone might have a Flashlight Problem, do you?
If you use your device a lot, how long is your average Screen-on-Time while on Havoc?
I'm wondering because I am still on the old RR-O 5/11/18 Kranoner build (still pretty stable, but bad SoT) and am itching to jump to Pie, but want a stable experience.
I just don't have the time to experiment with each recent GSI to see what does and doesn't work.
I remember in the other Pie GSI thread, there was a post many months ago about PixelDust having close to 7h SoT, Do you know if there are any other stable GSI's that work on Axon 7 that have this kind of SoT?
Thanks!

Most GSIs have pretty much the same SOT, it depends mostly on the state of your battery (i.e. if it is more than a year old you won't get that kind of SOT) and also on your vendor (Speedy 6.2 is the best right now) and kernel (Baddar RC1.1)
You may get 7h SOT if you use it VERY lightly, but I'd say it's closer to 6h with a new battery

What is your current ROM/GSI that you use for the Axon 7? What would you recommend for overall stability and daily-driver?

Liquid, AEX, Havoc, Omni, maybe Bootleggers...
I'm using AEX but don't really use the axon as daily driver since the screen is completely dead. The system is still completely stable though, via scrcpy

Where can I get Speedy vendor?
I can't find anything by that name.
I'm also running AEX but it's quite unstable.
If anyone needs a link to Speedy stuff, here it is:

It's unstable because of the (non-Speedy) vendor you're using
BTW you'll have to clean flash in order to change the vendor

Hm... I did flash Speedy vendor and Baddar Kernel.
That lead to major graphical issues, so I wiped data.
That helped, it's running better now but still not perfect. Status bar / quick access freezes sometimes.
Do I need to wipe again and flash in another order?

You need to CLEAN FLASH. which means wipe system, data, caches, then flash the vendor, then the ROM, then GApps and Magisk, then the NFC fix (The first one by Kountry is the only one that works for me) and then reboot
install speedy 6.2, havok 2.6 and gapps. that ROM is rock solid. don't need to install custom kernel or NFC patch

But you do. The NFC stuff is not related to the ROM, it's the vendor, and all seem to require it. And not installing a custom kernel (i.e. Baddar, because it's the only updated one) means you're stuck with Speedy's kernel, which is not bad but is not as good as Baddar
After some time waiting for the GSI roms to appear, I was surprised and disheartened to still see folks having problems with their Axon 7. I thought the introduction of Treble support would allow everyone access to many ROM updates but instead it seems like there's work involved to tailor each GSI for their particular phone.
I thought it was Google's intention to have these GSI's flashed to any phone supporting Treble without much developer involvement. Did I assume too much?

kind of. We don't have a vendor made specifically for the phone, since treble didn't even exist when this phone came out. People have been making them over time.
But again, what's the problem? NFC/hotspot? You are supposed to flash the patch after the first boot. V4A not working? Only a few have that.
V4A works for me, I have havoc 2.4, Vendor_Project_Treble_Axon7-by+Kranoner, and I install V4A with magisk 19.3 , and I also use "NFC_Hotspot-Universal.zip"
