Second day with my Hero and really like it so far, but;
When I tried to install HTC Sync, near the end of the install, I get,
"Generic Device Management Executable has encountered a problem and needs to close",
and wants to send a report to Microsoft, after dismissing the first one another one the same comes up, then after the install I get;
"Unable to create a device manager instance".
When I try to Sync with the PC, HTC Sync won't find the phone.
I've tried the HTC Sync that came with the phone and the latest from the HTC website with the same results.
I'm running Windows XP Home, fully up to date, anti-virus is disabled during the installation.
I have spent the best part of eight hours today searching this site and googling the problem, I've found people with the same or similar problems and still can't get it to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same problem, tried uninstalling/reinstalling both versions, but the problem still exists.
I am also running Win XP SP3.

Me too. XP SP3.
Speaking directly to HTC gave no answers, and I gave up as I don't need to sync to outlook.
Im having problems getting HTC 2.04 to work after update.
C:\Program Files\HTC HTC Sync\Application launcher\Application Launcher.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
And no it didn´t, tried it. Has tried remove and afterwards reinstall, but still not. Connection to USB is working, but can´t sync.
Just for info, I emailed HTC yesterday and got a reply back today. I tried it, but it didn't solve the problem, good customer service from HTC though.
I've pasted it (as sent) if anyone wants to try it, god luck.
"please try the following on you PC. STart, sun, msconfig, services, "hide all Microsfot Services" then "disable all", start up, "disable all", apply, close and reboot. Try the install again in this mode with no internet connection plugged in (as your AV will be fully shut down). If this works, you can reenable evertyhing, start, run, msconfig, normal startup, apply close, and reboot."
Lol, looks like a bold move
But good idea with the services, maybe we can narrow it down.
Do you have Itunes installed? Just a wild guess now as I have it installed, maybe the Apple Sync conflicts with HTC Sync.
Im not sure if that im able to do the services thing, but i will try.
No itunes is not on, but at home im using Vista 64 with itunes and its working!
Hmm, didn´t work for me.
Hope that HTC will come with an update.
For now im using CompanionLink to sync between Lotus Notes and Google Calendar, but it will only work for 2 weeks, then i have to pay.
Didn't work for me either. I tried disabling all not needed services.
@SharDK Do you have the problem in Win XP SP3 too?
@Lupus77
Yes its Win XP Sp3
Sry i wrote fail in my nick, its Shark, but nevermind
New reply from HTC.
"Are you able to try again in Safe Mode? "
Tried but still no good.
Is anyone here who got the HTC Sync working with Win XP SP3?
Phone not being recognized by the HTC Sync program
I had no problem installing the HTC Sync software BUT it does not recognize my phone. Yes I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I have read the manaul carefully and done everything they say, including enabling USB debugging. But to no avail. I also have tried both the new and old versions of the software.
PLEASE HELP!! I need to update my ROM
Weird, since before upgrae i had no problem connecting to sync either in Vista nor Xp SP3.
But after, then XP SP3 gives problems.
@Salmanbodla
When you connect to XP with USB, do you mount the SD card!
If you can here´s driver for XP http://www.pdauser.dk/files/driver.zip
When you connect, go to Device manager and look for ADB and try update the driver. Even try connect the Hero 2-3 times mounting the USB, that way i got the ADB in device manager. But then Sync failes, but had no problem before update.
I wrote HTC yesterday, so hoping that they will come with a solution.
Now they returned an email, writting to me that since i have a Danish Win XP, i have to install sync in Program Files/HTC/HTC sync
Im sry but im not using a Danish XP, so therefor its in the right place already.
Looks like HTC ´dosn´t have a solution for sync, very bad, since i have to use it to sync Lotus Notes at work.
Latest from HTC. Want NFO logs.
Latest Email from HTC:-
"HI STephen,
We are trying to replicate this issue here, are you able to send us the NFO logs?
Many hanks
MIke"
It's nice to see they have an interest in the problem.
Now the question. How do I send them the NFO logs? I'm a bit lost here.
Just wanted to add my "me too". I'm experiencing the same problem.
It used to work but since I reinstalled XP (serious crash) I get this error when trying to start HTC Sync:
C:\Program Files\HTC HTC Sync\Application launcher\Application Launcher.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

The only difference between my old and new install of XP is that my old install was SP2 and the new install SP3.
Me too
I cant get HTC sync to work on Windows VIsta. Had Hero for 2 weeks. But cannot connect with HTC sync. I only need this for ROM upgrade... not for syncing.
Stephen did you get an answer from the htc support.
I have the same problem.
Has anyone had luck fixing the issue with HTC Sync refusing to run because 'the application isn't configured properly'?
It worked fine for me about 2 weeks ago with Win XP Service Pack 3, but doesn't anymore. I'm not entirely sure what I've changed since. I went on Windows Update and downloaded these patches (Update for Root Certificates [September 2009] (KB931125), Security Update for Windows Media Format Runtime 9, 9.5 & 11 for Windows XP SP 3 (KB968816), Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430), Security Update for Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB952069), Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 and 11 (KB941569)); I changed which SATA port on my mobo the hard drive connected to; and that's about all I know of. Everything else would have been using programs already installed, which I had used before trying to use HTC sync.
I'm not sure which version of HTC Sync I used before, as it may have been the one on the SD card when the phone shipped, or it could have been downloaded from the website. It was probably the one on the SD card. Yesterday I tried uninstalling it after the error message and reinstalling v2.0.4 downloaded from the HTC website, but still no luck.
So, has anyone had any success with this?

Any chance you can uninstall those updates to see if they are the offending items?
Hello All,
I have just got my device in the last couple of days and on the whole I am happy with the device.
I have an issue whereas I can't find a way to use it with HTC Sync like I can with my HTC Desire.
There seems to be an option missing in 'Settings' then 'Connect to PC' called HTC Sync on the wildfire.
All my contacts and Diary are in Outlook and I want to sync them with the device.
The device is supplied by T-Mobile (UK) and the software info is as follows if it helps:
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.19
kernel Version: 2.6.29-4266b2e1 / [email protected]#1 (dated 19th May 2010)
Build Number: 1.14.110.1 CL183733 release-keys
Software Number: 1.14.110.1
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
Can someone please suggest what I need to do to het it to sync.
Thanks
The current version of HTC Sync is not compatible with the wildfire, HTC are working on this issue.
if you are using outlook with exchange server, you can sync your device over wifi with the server, as a workaround for now.
I understand that a compatible HTCSync for Wildfire is 'in creation' i.e. not yet available.
I tried the 2.0.33 but it couldn't connect.
I used the google calender sync for calendar and bluetoothed my contacts from my old wizard.
important:
USB drivers are included on the memory card supplied with the phone.
- Install from the card memory USB drivers on your computer
- Install on your computer "Android PC Suite 1.3.1.70"
- Change the settings in your phone's USB to USB debuging
- In PC Suite select option to connect (green arrows)
Now you can manage your phone from a PC

Drivers - msi file
Guys
I had another problem, had to extract the msi file before I could install the wildfire drivers.
Here's the file I used (extracted from the SD card)
You should only download this if you have rights to use this file (i.e. you already own a wildfire)
http://rapidshare.com/files/406311148/HTCDriver_wildfire_drivers_for_xp_.msi.html
Also: for those of you that didn't get an sd card with their wildfire I have posted the contents of mine.
Again: You should only download this if you have rights to use this file (i.e. you already own a wildfire)
http://rapidshare.com/files/406314593/WildfireCardImage_99MB_.zip.html
Here's version 3.0.5381 of HTC Sync
http://rapidshare.com/files/408789541/HTC_Wildfire_HTC_Sync_Setup_3.0.5381.exe.html
Again: You should only download this if you have rights to use this file (i.e. you already own a wildfire)

None yet. Read somewhere else that this item is being written now.
Well, then the solution is left to send the contacts via bluetooth, while another solution does not arise ...
Thank you.
The current version of HTC Sync is not yet supported with the HTC Wildfire. This is currently under development with our dev. team. In the mean time what you can do is set up a Google Email Account and then set this up within Outlook as an Exchanger server. This will then sync your contacts and calendar information to your phone and vise versa. I trust that this resolves your query.
OK, thanks for the reply.
After contact with HTC got this reply
Well, after contact with HTC got this reply:
... Kindly inform you that the next version of the HTC Sync will be released before the end of the month of July, we recommend accessing our website at the "assistance" to follow the new update released, or if you prefer to leave your contact information with us, can contact him at the time that this new version is available, we appreciate your understanding and patience ...

Hey mates,
you can download the HTC Sync for Wildfire at the HTC Hong Kong website. This is the direct link:
94.136.51.200/download/Driver/HTC%20Wildfire/Setup_3.0.5381.exe
(sorry, but I'm not allowed to post links, 'cause I'm new here)
If you cannot see the HTC Sync option when you connect your phone to the computer via USB:
1.
Make sure you select USB Debugging in Settings > Applications > Development before connecting your phone to the computer
2.
Connect you Phone to the PC and wait 20 seconds for your phone to install HTC Sync on your phone.
3.
Unplug the USB sync cable. Wait for 5 seconds. Reconnect the Phone to the PC using the USB cable.
4.
Select “HTC sync” and wait for HTC Sync to recognize your Phone. This process could take up to a minute your first time connecting to the computer.
I've tested it some minutes ago and it works pretty perfect!!

I just browsed to HTC's website, under HTC Wildfire page, and on the support article found the newest (I guess) version of HTC Sync of 3.0.5381 as adviced above.
Don't know whether it is going to run smoothly or not, as the download process is not yet finished.
Is it able to sync outlook mail folders? The hongkong version was not. (i uninstalled it again)

kendimce,
Thank you very much for this. HTC Sync installed and working fine! Without being able to sync my outlook stuff, I'd have to switch back to WinMo, but I'm keen to stick with Android now I've got over that major obstacle. Thanks again!
It works the 1st time (installed last week) and now it failed to detect my device (error message on PC: no device connected). I tried uninstall the HTC sync and drivers and reinstall it from fresh (4-5times) with no luck. I also tried many methods posted in variuos fourm and still have the same error message.
Have anyone experince this and how you resolve it? Please help.
Same here.
I get "No Device connected" on PC and "Unable to find HTC Sync" on phone.
I am on Artemis 27 and Matt c 1.7 Android.
and, yes, I am putting USB Mode into HTC Sync!
Any thoughts?

Same here. Can install HTC Sync OK, but can't connect - "Unable to find HTC Sync on your PC.............." and "No device connected" messages.
I'm using Windows 7 - might this be an issue ?

HTC Sync will only work with HTC builds like HTC desire.
Hi I have a HTC HD2 and running sense.
Installed HTC sync the above version but i'm not able to sync. When i plugin my HD2 the system does not even react.

Not true, I ve got it without serial number. It does not work at all though...... switching to WinMo, it DOES work. The Andriod in HD2 needs seriously still updates, you do not have any sound, no YouTube playing, can not configure the data access to my phone service.... buf........... is like iPhone actually.....

Few Pointers.
- make sure the android build you are using is a sense enabled build
- check with the android rom maker, if the HTC Sync functionality is supported by
the android ROM you are using.
- make sure you start the HTC syn app first and then connect the phone to ur pc.
Following the above, HTC sync should work straight off, once you put the phone in proper mode.
I have VBN ROM(Senseless) + Darkstone froyo(most complete ROM at the time,HTC Desire Build) and it works without any errors.
Hope this helps

Hi Kendimice, I can't download 3.0.5481, can you confirm the link? I have done the 3.0.5481 upgrade from 3.0.5422 and it fails to sync. It shows connect but simply sync nothing to my HD2_MDJ_DHD v4.1. Do you have any clue on this? I try uninstall 3.0.5481 and install back 3.0.5422 and reload MCCM DHD beta2 and it fail to recognize (it was ok before I try MDJ v4.1 and 3.0.5481 upgrading).

You can just download HTCSync from the htc website:
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=324&cat=3&dl_id=1058
Atleast something!
I downloaded 3.0.5481 from HTC website without problem.
I'm surpized you can have "HTC Sync" in the USB options of a non sens build (but never checked).
You can check is adobe air has not been updated. I think the HTC software need it.
I always had problem under winmo (crash of outlook after sync).
Now it's working ok with Android.
My PC config is actually:
Win7 X64
Outlook 2010 x32
DAMO 8.0.2 IF6
HTC Sync 3.0.5481
Adobe Air 2.5.1.17730
My HD2:
MDJ FroYo Matted V1.4
Kernel MDJ 7.5HD
HTC Sync stopped working when I tested the 7.1 kernel (from 6.1 to 7.1).
Impossible to connect the phone again!!!
(I don't say it's a kernel problem... I just describe what happened).
I reinstalled Android (format SD, fresh instal but back to 6.1)... same (so I don't think it was due to the Kernel update).
So I format, reinstall my PC. Then Ok.
Since then, no problem even after the latest Adobe Air Update.
Sometime I have an error message like "can't update PIM" or something like this with HTC Sync. I just restart my laptop (for info I never restart the OS, just idle it... don't know how you call it in English... it's the sleep state of a laptop).
Hope this could help...
HTC Sync older version
Hey guys,
Not sure if it was mentioned somewhere here before, but I found out (as I already read elsewhere) that with some ROMs, HTC Sync only works when you use the older version of the software (so 3.0.5422 in stead of 3.0.5481).
It didn't work for me (no recognition pc>phone & vice versa) with the latest version, so I uninstalled it. Now with the older version of the software, syncing seems to work fine for me!
Hope this helps some of you....
regards,
J
Thanks, this is wonderful. I would like to try it!
Hi, I'm trying to root the Wildfire using unrevoked3, but every time I connect it to my PC (I have installed the USB drivers needed) it appears as a ADB rather than an Android Phone.
Does anyone know what may be causing this?
Thanks in advance.
(Also, in Hboot it appears as Android Phone in my devices, yet when I launch into the main phone software, it becomes an ADB listed under Other Devices)

I had the exact same problem when I bought my Wildfire yesterday; it wouldn't work on my Windows 7 64 desktop...but when I tried it on my old XP laptop it did.
Then, on a hunch, I took the phone back to the Windows 7 desktop (without the debugging set) and it worked!
Why, I have no idea but it's all good now.
try to use PDA.net application or The Missing Sync for Android
Hello all,
Im trying to flash a new NAND ROM. The Mdeejay gingerbread rom.
But i cannot get an sync connection with my phone.
I flashed my first nand rom threw windows active sync, but obviously i dont have winmo no more.
Im currently on Gauners Desire HD NAND build.
I have installed the htc sync software (with anti-virus disabled), and when i connect my phone and set the connection to HTC sync, its starts searching for sync on my laptop. This takes a while and after that it basicly tells me that htc sync cannot be found on my laptop This happens when im actually looking at the htc sync software on my laptop.
Anybody has an idea what could be the problem?
Thanks
you have try htc sync for htc desire not hd2 sync soft
download from wwwhtc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=324&cat=3&dl_id=982
I am using the software for the htc desire.
I have latest htc sync software installed.
Anyone else?
Windows version installed? XP, Vista, 7, 32b/64b? Need more info.
First thing you can try, exit htc sync on your computer (Make sure you right click the taskbar icon, and choose exit. now connect phone by USB, when your phone asks what type connection, choose htc sync, the phone will now look for the software, while its looking, run htc sync, if all goes well, it should find it.
If that doesnt work, then my first sentence stands.
Ok i have manged to get a sync now, edditing some stuff in MSconfig
(im on windows 7 ultimate) So now i have my connection, but as soon as i try to update to MAGLDR111 threw romupdateutility.exe
it says it cant find a connection, anybody have any ideas?
Nevermind, got it this thread can be closed.
Thanks guys!
Hi guys sorry but before you close the thread, I am having the exact same problem.
I flashed my first NAND Rom from Cotulla which is working brilliantly so far. However I just wanted to try another ROM but I cant get my phone to SYNC with the computer. I am using the latest version of HTC Sync for Desire
Please note that I was previously able to sync just fine..
Now when I connect the phone to the computer it says CONNECTING.... for around a minute then it just says UNABLE TO FIND HTC SYNC ON YOUR PC.... even though i have HTC Sync Installed just fine.
I have Windows XP. I have tried restarting computer and phone. Also uninstalled and reinstalled HTC Sync several times but to no avail.
Please could someone help me.... or the original poster please tell me how he sorted out the problem
You dont need the sync i found out.
If you go into the normal bootloader (hold down volume button and powerbutton)
Connect your usb, wait for the bootloader to say USB, then update to MAGLDR 1.11, and done
then just (as usual) open the 4th option in the MAGLDR menu, and flash your new rom.
Have fun
I have magldr 1.11 and I have a problem with syncing my hd2. I go into magldr menu, choose no. 4, says usb...usb, but when I try to flash the new rom, it says error, no connection. Is there a solution for this?
