NEED HELP:Galaxy Tab 4 tn230nu issues with apps - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone! I just picked up a WiFi Galaxy tab 4 16gb tn230nu. I've run in to many issues that are quickly making regret buying it. This is for my son and the inability to move certain apps to my 32gb SD card is wrecking havoc.
I try to install games like Transformers, Minecraft and other large games and it won't allow it. I get error 18 I believe or it says there's not enough space.
I ended up rooting my device with Kingo and now Netflix doesn't work... This is where I'm at now. Not sure which direction I should head in. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I just want to get this tab working so that my kid can play his favorite games and watch movies on road trips. Plain and simple.

TF in addition to an Android Smartphone

Hey guys, I just got my TF with the dock 2 days ago, and I'm loving it. It works beautifully. However, I'm having a bit of a conflict. I also own a Samsung Galaxy S 2, and I'm having trouble deciding what games to put on which device. I bought the TF to try and see if I could replace my laptop with, since it covered everything I use my laptop for, and it is a sweet peice of kit. Do any of you also use an android phone? If so, what do you do in desiding whats apps to put on either? Or am I just crazy for having both? Thanks for any help.

I've got plenty of space on my TF, so I install everything that works on it.
On my HD2, I ease back on things I don't/won't use regularly.

I'm pretty sure that if you have a tablet, you have some sort of smartphone. (iPhone or Android)
Tablets haven't yet become mainstream. The smartphone market, on the other hand, has been growing for quite a while now. In fact, in terms of priority, most people would pick a smartphone over a tablet if they had to make a choice.
Is there any tablet owner out there who didn't already have a smartphone?
As far as apps go, I get them for both. A lot of the apps I use can be used on my phone (especially since 99% of Android apps are meant for phones) and tablet (although, with varying degrees of success). It's really up to you on how you decide. But, why not get the same apps for both? You have enough memory on both devices that it wouldn't even matter.
Although, I have to say, I don't game on my phone at home since I like the larger screen size. However, I also don't like taking my tablet out on the subway (mass transit) due to safety and portability issues so I still keep some games on my phone.
yeah, i have a nesux s and my transformer. There are some apps that are just more practical on a phone, like the gps fitness based ones, and i also seem to play most of my music on my phone too. The transformer tends to be pretty big for certain smartphone based apps. Then like the other person mentioned, there is an issue of compatibility. Honeycomb is still in its early days, a lot of devs need to update their apps, but its getting better everyday. I find that for productivity based apps, this thing is amazing.
I also want to note that i am very excited about 3.1 and usb gamepads, there are a lot of games that just didnt work well for me, on a touch screen, and i am really hoping to see more devs update their apps to support gamepads, games like zenonia are soooo much better with the gamepad. Especially with emulators, roms are finally playable, the touch screen was absolutely horrible.
I am excited with where Honeycomb is going, and with more tablets comming this summer, i believe the fall is going to be fantastic when it come to apps.

I have a n97, it is a smartphone but I never use it for anything but calling and text cause it sucks in terms of being a smartphone.

I install my apps based on what I use the device for...in my mind, a smartphone and a table are complimentary, not identical in function...
For example: I have Copilot live on my phone because that's my primary "Car GPS" device...could the transformer do the same thing? Sure...but I don't want to.
On the other hand...I do my note taking with Genial Writing ONLY on the TF...my phone is just too small and inconvenient.
So it's based on function...
I have a Samsung Captivate and the transformer. I don't install games on my phone anymore. I keep one or two more interesting games (like angry birds) and install the rest on my tablet. That was the main reason why I got my tablet. To play games on a bigger screen xD

Kids Tablet Apps - Need Suggestions

Alright Nook Color forum. I'm new here. Mostly been in the G1, G2, and MT4g forums. Been an Android user since the G1 came out. All our phones are rooted, rom'd, etc...
So long story short, I talked my wife out of a leapster for our 3 year old son and into an android tablet since he loves playing games on my old G1. So I picked up a slightly used NC with screen protector and a real nice case for $130. It's rooted with CM 7. Our son knows how to launch apps from the desktop, slide the notification bar, and play kids apps like memory games, ABC's, slide puzzles, and he loves angry birds. So I also put some kids books apps that read to him and he can swipe the pages and hid the launcher and put all the shortcuts on one desktop.
I also loaded some kids movies like cars 2 and Thomas the train on the SD card and he loves watching those.
So far he loves it and can totally launch apps and play then by himself. But now to completely sell my wife on the idea I need to find some really good high quality apps for kids, not these free puzzles that he gets bored with in 2 minutes, but some really good high quality apps that are scaled properly for tablets. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated and thanked.

Zoodles http://www.amazon.com/Zoodles-Kid-M...1?ie=UTF8&s=mobile-apps&qid=1321294691&sr=1-1
If you type kids in the google market you can view the results by popularity.
+1 on the Zoodles app! My 5 year old has a lot of fun with that one!
He also likes Ant Smasher: https://market.android.com/details?...mNvbS5iZXN0Y29vbGZ1bmdhbWVzLmFudHNtYXNoZXIiXQ
(not educational, just fun)
If your son likes to draw, then Kids Paint Free is good: https://market.android.com/details?...251bGwsMSwxLDEsInZpcnR1YWxncy5raWRzcGFpbnQiXQ
(I recommend either using AdFree, or paying the buck to get the ad free version)
And you pretty much can't go wrong with anything from "Intellijoy": https://market.android.com/details?...251bGwsMSwxLDEsInZpcnR1YWxncy5raWRzcGFpbnQiXQ
Of course, my son also likes playing Fruit Ninja, and RoboDefense.

[Q] Google Play and Capacity

Hey guys. Quick two important questions here. I'm looking to buy the Nexus 7 pretty soon, on a tight budget. I'm looking to get the 16GB but I'm wondering whether to wait a while to get the 32GB version. Basically, the main things I'm going to be using my Nexus 7 for is apps and movies sometimes. I might not even always use 720p for my movies and shows so I doubt it will become a big problem with space and I always delete it after I'm done watching it. The other main use of it will be apps, and a lot of games like both the GTAs, Nova 3, Dead Trigger etc. No music since that will all be on my phone, so those are the two main things really. Would 14GB of space be enough? (14GB because of how much the system roughly takes up.)
Second question, can I transfer apps that I get from Google Play or the Android Store onto my Nexus 7 via my PC? Like with my iPhone (And no, I'm not an apple fanboy), I can download all the apps and sync them. The problem is that I don't have WiFi yet and I'll be getting it a while after I get my Nexus. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.
Well, you can attach a flash drive to your nexus. You'd need to get an otg cable if you don't have one. Costs a few dollars on eBay. You could load the flash drives with your movies.
For the second question, I don't believe you can download to your computer. Not sure about that. What you can do is use your computer's wifi as a hotspot.

I just got a new Shield tablet, what are the first things I should do?

Hey guys,
First of all, Im a new proud owner of the LTE 32GB Shield Tablet with the Nvidia controller after watching some youtube videos.
I was such a noob that while I was searching the web, I kept getting Nvidia Shiled and Nvidia Shield tablet confused! I didnt realize that their names were so similar which made searching for Roms compatibility a bit difficult.
Some of things I noticed:
1. updated to lollipop right away after I turned it on and deleted FB app and instagram app (just in case) from what I read here. Feels snappy enough that I dont think I need to do a factory reset.
2. Tried several of my App games but many didnt recognize the controller. Bummer.
-Need for speed hot pursuit didnt
-MC4 right analog wont turn my head so its impossible to aim
3. Installed PPSSPP so far the best emulator so far on the tablet. The aspect ratio seems to be very similar to PSP so it makes sense.
4. Snes 9x is good for the SNES roms but I dont know what happened to that other SNES emulator that I downloaded many months ago but no longer appears under my account. I forget the name of it but it was way better than this SNES 9x emulator.
5. Great overall tablet. A bit on the heavy side. Power button is probably the worst I've ever experienced. However, once I get the case, Im sure I wont need it as much.
6. I have a library of games on steam but disappointed that I have to rebuy half life 2 and portal to play it on my tablet.
7. Lack of library games on the Nvidia Hub.
Questions:
1. Do you guys keep your tab on at all times or do you turn it off at night?
2. Are there other android games I can use the controller with? If so, how do I get it so the buttons are configured correctly?
Thank you so much!
First thing? Buy the cover, it's awesome. There's magnets in it so it does't flop around open or closed and when you prop it up, the magnets hold the wedge in place.
But yea the power button sucks. First thing I did was upgrade to Lollipop then second thing I did was downgrade to Kitkat lol. No xposed and the single notification pull down were the deal breakers.
Haven't tried too much gaming but I do keep mine on at night, it's my alarm clock. Battery is great for me, my thing says I'm good for 5.5 hours use of battery and 5 days of standby.
Root it of course too There's a volume mod I found somewhere, for me Netflix is very quiet. Plus you need to unlock write privileges for the SD card.
64/128 gb SD card obviously too.

If you are in kitat and rooted (towelroot, easy...), I use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix&hl=en
I think Lollipop needs to mature, so I will wait to 5.0.1, I hope soon...
You should never root a device as soon as you get it. Wait a few days first to make sure everything works before you start tinkering.
I rooted my device as soon as it was powered on. I get your point but without root I don't have much use for the tablet

Same here but in the case of the Nvidia Shiled, I chose to suffer a bit to wait out any issues that might come up before rooting it.

Reasons for rooting vary. For this Tablet these are the things I needed root for so far
Using titanium backup to restore app data for games my kids play
Installing modified file to allow my ouya controller to pair and have buttons mapped
Installing folder mount to fix writing to external sd and move allot of my larger game files to external which is 64gb vs 16 internal. I would already be over my internal capacity without this
In the future if nvidia leaves issues in firmware that a developer here can fix it is nice to be able to have the freedom to try

How did you upgrade right after getting it??? I'm not being prompted for a system update and it tells me there are no further updates and developers.nvidia.com doesn't even have them posted...
I got Lollipop on day #1 ...which for me was back in November. 5.0 has been out for a while...
<Edit>
... That being said ... oh gawd I miss KitKat. Lollipop was a laughable upgrade. I don't see any major performance improvement. The single notification is a mess. Memory management seems worse. And I hate to say it but I miss xposed.
I don't feel like the tablet is my own anymore. Google has made the experience just so generic. Kind of Apple-ish. Maybe if they are ever able to port xposed to ART, it'd be better. I don't know why, but somehow, I doubt it's going to happen.
I'll probably downgrade again soon, but don't know that nvidia will continue to support KitKat anymore.

Some apps (Tasker, Titanium Backup, etc) require root.
Having root also allows you to uninstall the bloatware that eats up the storage you paid for.
"Because I can" is a valid answer as well. If you can't root it, you don't own it.
Get yourself a controller mount ASAP and you will love the tablet.

Art blows dalvik away in performance gains. I like the new drop down. But I have been using lollipop since June. I just got this thing today and the thing runs circles around the nexus 9. The big thing lollipop brings is a ton more security checks.

The Ipega http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OZEO576/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is amazing and since it can do both orientations it wins every time. However if you got the offical controller there is always http://www.shapeways.com/model/2843...controller.html?li=shop-results&materialId=25 which fit perfectly and does a very good job but will only hold it in widescreen which makes it a bit weird to do DS games on it.

Thanks!
I've seen the Shapeways one and have almost bought it in a couple occasions but it seems like the weight of the tablet would be uncomfortable with it being so far on top. The Ipega one looks interesting. I like my Shield controller though. How does the controller portion compare?

Just ordered my Shield TV. What games/apps do you recommend?

I ordered the 16GB version. I plan to store my movies on an external drive. What games and apps specifically for Shield TV/Android TV do you recommend? I'm thinking about getting Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 HD to start.
If I didn't already have the MGS games 2 times over, I would buy them for the shield. I have purchased a couple smalled games like Death Road to Canada and AshWorld. I have played Half Life 2 just fine. I also enjoy using the game stream function. Play all my PC games on my TV. I hope some people can give more recommendations for you.
Yeah, I'm tempted to get them since I don't already own them on other consoles.
