Hi, Been given an old Dell Latitude 10e ST2E tablet running Windows 8.0
The person cannot remember the admin password so I get to the logon page and cannot proceed.
I tried running the refresh and reset, it reboots and then asks to insert the recovery media.
I also tried several different bootable password recovery images but it just wont boot using them. I've tested using my laptop and the images are working.
Is there another way to reset or load something else? There is nothing that requires saving on it.
I posted it originally in the RT section but been advised its Windows 8 and not RT.
Thanks

complete noob here, so sorry if i am posting i the wrong place. I tried rooting my nc 1.2.0 but it didnt take, i think i unplugged it too soon. so I did a complete wipe and afterwords the nc was showing my software rev as 1.1.0. I then followed the instructions for auto-nooter 3.0.0 and i got to this point:
6 Your NookColor will reboot when it's done.
That was the hard part, now to the simple stuff.
7 Upon boot unlock your screen.
8 At the Android Welcome Screen skip Sign In.
9 Enable Location Services when given the option.
10 Connect to Wifi and launch Youtube from "Extras".
so here is my problem. After enabling location services(step 9), when i hit next I get a prompt saying:
complete action using
home
softkeys
home simply takes me to the normal nc home screen and softkeys asks for superuser permission the first time and afterwards also goes to the nc home sceen. i have wiped and re-rooted 3 times now with exactly the same results. am i missing something or doing something wrong? is there a different method for rooting that I should be using instead? should i attempt to go back to vers. 1.2.0(not sure how I would do this)? any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated as my kids are dying to use the nook and for me to be done "hogging it" thanks in advance
its fixed
ok not sure what gives, but i rebooted again and it seems to work fine now, other than not many apps in the market. I dont know how to delete this post so i just replied. mods feel free to delete

Windows 10 tech preview evaluation copy Build #9841
TWRP 2.8.0.2
Ok, so I installed tech preview couple days ago and just used flashify app to install TWRP 2.8.0.2 about 20 minutes ago cause i have been having fastboot crashes even when i was running W8.1 lately.
Planing on flashing stock rom cause i have issues with picture messages not sending and email wont send and only sync to phone, but doesn't sync back when i delete anything, so i have to check from (sorry guys/galls) my Ipad air.
Anyway, i can now see my internal storage while in recovery on my pc using factory usb charging cord.
Is this something that was added to TWRP in version 2.8.0.2 or is it thru windows 10? I've never been able to see it before and if a mistake was made you had to use a flash drive and on OTG cable to get things back on device cause the "side load" option never worked.
Any ideas how this view of internal storage came about while in recovery?
"com.android.phone has stopped working" since last update, no help my clean install
Hey,
since i installed the latest update i always get the error message "com.android.phone stopped working".
I tried by fixing it by wiping the device, but there was no effect. The error occurs again every second, so the device isn't usable any more.
I tried to flash another factory image by using Skipsofts Unified Android Toolkit, but this hasn't worked either. I get the error: "error, rebooting in fastboot mode" - after this the application freezes.
Has anyone an idea how i can fix this problem?
thanks for your help!
I'm also having the same problem. Updated N10 last week with the latest OTA and then the N10 crapped out completely with the same error "com.android.phone stopped working". Why phone process when this is a tablet? Did the clean cache, hard reset, no luck. Did it a couple of times and made it worst because now I have a new error (Out of Storage). Try the fastboot to refresh it to the stock rom and no luck. It's not taking it (0% transfer). ADB command seems to work but I have no idea how to do it with ADB to restore the image. Plus now that I'm out of space, I can't transfer any of the image. Is there such a thing as remote format the ROM?
I contacted google and got transferred multiple times to different dept at Samsung. No luck. Samsung told me to take the N10 to Best Buy to Samsung experience store. The guy who work there is such a douche, he was telling me that he doesn't have the image for N10 and he said he didn't even know that N10 is Samsung. Great job with the training Samsung. To make the matter worst, he was trying to be funny by saying "the good news is that they have many other Samsung tablets that I can purchase new". What an moron. What makes him think that I want to buy another Samsung when they couldn't even figure out how to fix the one they previously made and updated.
So the Samsung tech support told me that I have to send it back to them to be flashed. Not sure how much that will cost me to fix the problem they created since it's already out of warranty. Is there another way to do it?
Getting very frustrated as well.
Solution to corrupted OTA update for N10
Gosh.. What do you know. I finally got my N10 fixed after I vented my frustration with Samsung. The problem was because my USB driver was not detected properly thus the fastboot is not working. So here are the steps I did to fix the problem.
Step 1. Hold down Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down button together until your Nexus 10 reboots into fastboot bootloader mode.
Step 2. Connect a microUSB cable from your Nexus 10 to your computer.
Step 3. Make sure you already have the firmware then uncompress it. If you didn't, here is the latest N10 Lollipop from Google website.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
This is the image I used, the latest Lollipop
Step 4. Make sure you have USB drivers installed for Windows (Since I'm using Windows 10, this are the step I'm showing).
If you see “Android 1.0” instead, update the drivers with these drivers. Once you have updated the driver, your device manager should now show “Android Bootloader Interface”.
This was the step that was missing for me.
Step 5. Make sure you have Android SDK installed especially the platform-tools. Follow Android SDK installation steps by Google.
Step 6. Make sure the path where you install the Android SDK/platform-tools is in the windows environment. If not, open up the "command prompt" and type this.
HTML:
SET PATH=%PATH%;D:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
D:\Android\Android-sdk\platform-tools is where I installed the android-sdk
Step 7. Go to the directory where you uncompressed the firmware, find the file "flash-all.bat", double click it. Watch it does the magic.
That's it. Now your N10 is back to original latest Lollipop Firmware for N10. Hope this help..... Good luck...
WestDude
thanks, i'll give it a try
thanks a lot, its working again!
Awesome.
Any idea on how to do it on mac?
Nexus Player stuck on " Can't Load Android System. Your Data may be corrupt"
Hi, my Nexus Player is stuck on " Can't Load Android System. Your Data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message you may need to perform a factory data reset......."
When I do the factory reset it brings me back to this screen. My son told me it happened after an update.
I can't get it to do anything else.
Is there a solution?
I’m experiencing this same issue now. Stock Oreo, unrooted. Anybody have any ideas?
Same happening here. Unrooted, Stock Oreo. Happened after an update.
Have attempted to get USB connected in recovery to ADB push the factory image with no luck.
Device not showing up on windows or mac.

So Google is hard-bricking our devices with no replacements in sight? This is crazy. This isn't the only thread about this.

I wouldn't quite go so far as to imply that they are doing it on purpose. It is most likely lack of testing of updates going out, since it is an old, and now unsupported device.
This happens to my nexus player too, after update push from google.. Apparently google pretty much bricking all nexus player by pushing bad firmware update. I can see class action lawsuit coming if google doesn't fix this soon
Successful restoration of factory image into nexus player

Update, I did follow the direction posted on another forum and was successful on restoring my nexus player. Here's the procedure that I found working for me. I had to flash it couple of times since the latest image doesn't seem to fix it. Also the usb driver tool doesn't seem to work properly on my windows 7 laptop, but works in windows 10, but it may just be my Win7 laptop that has too much security restriction.
Here's the procedure.. good luck. Sorry, since I'm newbie, xda won't let me post actual link, I have to remove the http, but it is a good link, you just have to paste it into browser
1. Download Google USB driver from : developer.android.com/studio/run/oem-usb
2. Download and unzip ADB and Fastboot tools: developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
3. Download and unzip Nexus Player Factory Image: developers.google.com/android/images#fugu
I tried the lastest one : 8.0.0 (OPR2.170623.027, Nov 2017) , but it crashed again. I then loaded the 8.0.0 (OPR6.170623.021, Sep 2017), and it seems to work so far. I disabled the auto-update on the play store just to be safe, but not sure if this would prevent the OTA.
4. Open command prompt window and go to the unzipped folder for the fugu image
5. Add path to the ADB/fastboot tool into system PATH, example:
PATH=%PATH%;D:\Dnload\platform-tools_r28.0.0-windows
6. Get into bootloader of Nexus player using this procedure:
- unplug power of NP
- Press the button on the bottom of NP, keep it pressed and plug-in power
- keep it pressed for about 8 sec, and release, it would go into fastboot mode, showing you the current setting and boot option with default of "normal boot"
- press button one time to stop it from doing normal boot
7. Plug microUSB cable between NP and your PC, and install driver (unzipped in step 1) if asked.
8. Back on your command prompt, type "fastboot devices", it should show the nexus device, if nothing is listed, there's still driver issue that need to be fixed.
9. Now we can follow the instruction to flash the factory image from developers.google.com/android/images. I will summarize the step below that work for my nexus player (pre 2015 device)
- unlock bootloader by issuing command: "fastboot oem unlock". You should see the status updated on the screen to unlocked.
- Execute the "flash-all" script. This script installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system.
You should see the activity on screen, like downloading state. While the script is running, it would also reboot the nexus player into bootloader, and waiting for the NP to come back up into bootloader. Once it comes back up, the script would resume. In case the player doesn't go back into bootloader, do step 6 to manually get into bootloader
- After the script completes, for security you should lock the bootloader again, by going back into bootloader (see step 6) and issuing command: "fastboot oem lock"
Mine started doing this also, it sits at the GOOGLE screen for a while, flashes/reboots once in a while and then eventually goes to the NO COMMAND screen.
I flashed it back to 7.0.0 NRD90R and it booted up fine, setup things and it worked fine even after the OTA to 8.0, but something else updates soon after that and fails again.
I just flashed the 8.0.0 OPR2.170623.027 before I left for work so we'll see what state it's in when I get home.
My second one is fine so far.
Mines dead too, stock, no root.
I will try flashing older version and see.
Wow, WTF is happening to the Nexus Player?
My Nexus Player have been unused for the last few months (I think I just upgraded it Oreo to test it when it went out), what can I do to save it from the sudden death?
Can I power it up without WiFi and block updates or something?
Just saw this on the google forum.

I was encouraged by a reddit user to open this: https://issuetracker.google.com/114276277 He suggested I get as many people I could to "star" the issue. Hopefully it yields something other than an "escalation". Will post any news.
My Nexus Player has been at Android 8.0.0 for a while.
I hope I didn't jinx it by posting here
If it quits working, I still have a Roku and a fireTV.

I i had to reflash the firmware the correct one TB-X104F_S000024_180930_ROW_DCC. Anyway it wasn't booting at all before i flashed. Now it boots, shows the logo etc and constantly says Encryption unsuccessful!, so i reset it and factory reset it but nothing changes.
I have no idea where else to go, bootloader is locked and all i can do is flash the firmware. Would there be a way to remove this from the files within the firmware?. It seems like android is there in the background but i can't get away from that encryption unsuccessful screen!
Sorry if none of this makes sense.
Yo. I got the same tablet bro. Been trying to figure out a custom recovery for her. A stock ROM would be great to have and I haven't been able to find one anywhere. Might I inquire as to where you found yours? It would be a huge relief to know I can fix it if I break it lol.
encryption
If you download the Lenovo MOTO smart assistant from Lenovo support it has a resque option. I also used that to root my tb-x104f. It downloads the original everything and if you take the boot image from the file it downloads and replace it in one that has been modified from magisk it will rescue it and you will have root also thatd what I did with mine
same problem here, reflashed with stock rom. and not resloved

Did you fix this issue?
I am having the same problem.
Thanks
Same problem here (my error reads "Decryption unsuccesful", but I think it's the same as yours).
After a few tries, I believe that it is a problem with the internet connection. After the factory reset, if I skip the wifi connection step, it starts normally. And it is completely usable. I can load pdf documents or apks by the usb from a computer and it runs correctly. But whenever I try to set the wifi connection, it updates something and it causes the tablet that the next time I turn it off, I find the error on the picture when turning on. It asks for a password and no matter which password you enter, then it delivers this message.
In resume, right now it is a completely functional tablet if you NEVER connect it to the internet and load anything you need via usb or bluetooth.
I tried to reset it with Lenovo Smart Assistant, but the result is the same.
I am looking for custom roms to try if it's something about the stock rom, but I haven't found any. Can anyone reccomend me a rom for Lenovo E10 X104F 2GB?
Solution: (Worked for me)
Format Data as F2FS in TWRP. (Advanced Wipe)
Then reboot and wait.
