Upgrade Galaxy S6 for Oneplus 2?

So I'm kind of in a dilemma to get a a Oneplus 2 and selling my Galaxy s6 for it.
Regarding the specs and software experience, do you think that trading my Galaxy S6 for a 64gb Oneplus 2 is a good long-term idea?

I sold my gs6 and got the oneplus 2, no regrets so far. I mainly did it because I don't like touchwiz. I like using close to stock Android software. Battery life on gs6 sucks as well, much better on op2. Build quality is definitely better on the gs6 but aside from that this phone tops it in every way for me.

yeah, even with the COI9 build of the S6, Touchwiz is shiity due to some stutterting with it's UI. If only there would be a CM build for this lol
I'm really in the verge of getting the oneplus 2, but there is also a part of me choosing between the Nexus 6P. what do you think, disregarding the price?

Go for 6P if you don't need dual sim.

After having the S6, Note 5 and OP2 I would never leave an S6 for an OP2. The only reason I keep the OP2 is for the hope of an official CM build, that's all. If the S6 battery life is too poor for you to put up with THEN I would do it, that's the only reason. I don't like Oxygen OS particularly and after using the S6 the OP2 feels laggy to me. I would download package disabler from the app store for the S6 as it really helps improve battery life. I didn't have a problem with the S6's battery life, especially with quick charge. Obviously it may not meet your needs though since we're all different. Just my two cents.

quite unusual to see from someone that the OP2 is lagging. Anyway, I also have the same reason why I'm considering the OP2 or Nexus 6p, because of the CM or near stock experience. I've recently installed some Custom roms in the S6, that fixed the touchwiz lag but not the ram management. I'm also waiting if there would be AOSP roms for the s6.

its very common for oxygenos to be laggy, coming from nexus 5 6.0 update, oxygenos with all this hardware is still no match in smoothness, they have ways to go. of course just waiting for the cyanogenmod to become official then you can kiss the lagg bye bye. tested the beta, and it is fantastic. hydrogenos is currently faster and almost lag free compared to oxygen.

I have the latest OOS installed + AK kernel v15, and I see no lag whatsoever. Browsing through the UI is as smooth as it can get + battery life is amazing.

I did just that ,today is my first day with the oneplus 2 .I cant get over how heavy it is !.battery life seems a little better but I am not getting 4G which might be contributing to the battery life .I have to say that the S6 feels far more polished than the OPT over all ,the OPT reminds me of the days when I used custom ROMs where you encounter a few glitches here and there (not connecting to my wifi for instance ).

The GS6 has one of the best camera's available on any phone today, but the OP2 isn't that far behind (with some software improvements it could potentially equal it). If you hate Touchwiz as much as I do, then trade it in. If you don't, then don't.. Because the GS6 is truly a fantastic device if you like a phone that just works. It's basically the iPhone of Android devices.

If you can live without a fingerprint scanner for a while you should give Exodus a try. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

It's actually not unusual at all. Use literally any other current flagship phone and then go back to the OP2. Stock vs stock it's noticeable. I'd wait till the S6 gets marshmallow to make your determination if you can. Hardware-wise I think the S6 is better and that being the case, you can update software but you can't change hardware.

How's the display of the device? Is the 1080P LCD display not that farfetched from SUPERAMOLED?
Considering the SoCs of both Nexus 6P and OP2, do you think that the 64gb (with 4 gb of ram) would provide more RAW power than the nexus 6p?

I went from GS6 to a oneplus 2. I originally kept the GS6 and sold the Oneplus 2, but later changed my mind and bought a new Oneplus 2. (I don't understand all the whining about not being able to buy one!)
Here is why:
My main complaint regarding the OP2 is its size. The S6 is sleek and lightweight. When it comes to having one of the two in a pocket...I much prefer the size of the S6. But, phones aren't made for sitting in our pockets, are they? Also, I find the vibrating motor on the OP2 is lower quality than the one on the S6 and so I leave it turned off because it annoys me. The vibrating seems to slow down the use of the keyboard to me as well. I also don't find the quality of accessories like cases to be as good for OP2 as the GS6.
On the other hand:
I don't mind the lack of NFC because I don't keep a phone unrooted long enough to use Android Pay anyway. I think Oneplus realized most of it's users would be in that boat. I also don't mind the lack of quickcharging because I just plug in my phone everynight and I have a 15,000mAh battery charger that bought just in case, but I have used exactly 0 times. Despite all of the horror stories on these forums, I have stock Oxygen and stock kernel and get to the end of every day with about 75% charge left.
I think the TW on GS6 is fine, but I honestly prefer the stock experience. I found the camera on the GS6 to be better, but I would ALWAYS choose my DSLR for any serious video or photo of either and I don't find it $150 dollars better (The actual price difference if you watch for deals on websites such as Slickdeals).
I hear all sorts of whining about the quality of the hardware being less on Oneplus 2, but in the past half year I have owned 3 GS6 devices and two of them had to be sent in for RMA warranty. I have owned 2 Oneplus 2's and they were both without any faults. Also, if you think that Oneplus has software issues, you should see all the whining over on the S6 forums about the software problems. Samsung is arguably the most advanced android maker out there and still regularly have software issues! Samsung does not support the Dev community and takes every action to prevent any software modification (Ever heard of a Knox?). Oneplus has limitations on what they are able to provide the community with regard to drivers, but does what it can.
I used the fancy features like heartbeat sensor and pulse ox a total of once just out of curiosity...never found a need to use it ever again. The same goes for the remote control. It is a neat feature, but I would prefer to use my regular remote.
I also can't see the point in using Android Pay because it seems like half of all retailers out there still make me pull out my wallet to show my ID. Basically, at this point the Android Pay is about the same level of novelty as a 4k screen on a 40 inch TV and I'm fine without it. I can't drive anywhere without my wallet because it has my license, so I might as well carry a card in there too. If I go to a restaurant, I'm not going to hand a $400 to $650 device to the waiter to pay for my food.... With all of it's limitations, Android Pay just isn't THAT much of a convenience. So, I will choose to root my phone and do without out it whether the device has NFC or not.
The GS6 Super OLED is beautiful, but comes with drawbacks. One main problem is that they suffer from burn-in. I had one device that I couldn't stand using because it developed a severe burn in from having a background similar to the "never settle" on the OP2 that left words visible on the back of the device. The burn in occurred after a couple days of heavy use of the device and was permanent. Samsung will not fix that problem on warranty...they see it as your fault. IPS does not have this problem. With regard to battery use I don't think that the benefits of OLED outweigh the significantly larger battery on the OP2. Also, I should mention that I have a smartwatch so I could care less about features like having alerts popup on the display, but I doubt that this really consumes a lot more energy on the IPS displays than the OLED displays. I believe that more energy is probably being consumed in the wakelock anyway from those sort of events and really don't want my screen turning on to tell me about new alerts either way. I saw a fancy graph somewhere about how OLED really doesn't use that much less energy compared to IPS with LED anyway, and can actually use more in certain cicumstances.
I find that the larger real estate of the 5.5 inch screen on the OP2 is a better size compared to the S6 in my experience and don't appreciate any decrease in quality in the 1080p vs 2k.
The S6 and Oneplus 2 are both pretty lag-free experiences. I do like having the 64gb of space compared to the 32 on my S6, but the OP2 seems to run with about 2GB or RAM free, so the 4GB or RAM is probably overkill. The S6 on the otherhand is bloated beyond belief and uses every bit of the 3GB of RAM. Anyone who has spent time on the S6 part of xda has seen tons of complaints about this. Meanwhile, OOS isn't perfect, but it does remain a bloat free experience.
Importantly, the dev support for OP2 is much better and we really owe these guys like Grarak and AK for all their hard work. Dev support for the S6 is very limited. CM will probably never be available for the S6 because it uses the Exynos.
I never had a problem with using the physical home button on the S6, but after using the home button on the OP2, I found that I was annoyed everytime I had to actually press down on that physical button on the S6. I don't know why, but it really bugged me.

I was pretty much going to say the same thing said here......So I'll just +1 this.
Ok, I have to say a little more...
I like my OP2, the build is nice and it's a premium looking phone.....But I've only had it a month and have had several small, annoying bugs pop up over that time and a couple that required a full factory reset. I had my S6 for a couple months and had no real issues. I almost feel the OP2's software wasn't ready for release, but they went ahead and released it anyways. As bloated as the S6 is, it's a smooth and snappy user experience IMO. TouchWiz has really slimmed down from the S3 days too and I actually liked it as well as my go-to launcher, Nova. I hate saying that, because I generally don't like big corporate companies like Samsung, but they don't have one of the most popular phones in the world for no reason. But for the money, I was willing to take a chance on the OP2 as I'm sure development will be better in a few months and even the stock ROM will become more stable over time.

To what I see from everyone I think I can deduce like this:
Oneplus 2: DEV FRIENDLY (i cant emphasis enough how this is very important to me lol), can go toe to toe with the Exynos chip, better stock experience (Cyanogenmod is coming quickly), due to camera software updates OP2 camera is decent, build quality is premium, battery is good, better RAM
Galaxy S6: build is super premium but can be so greasy due to the glass back and front, Exynos chip is good, TouchWiz is decent, NFC, wireless charging, QHD but can be a set back due to battery
The S6 has been months out now, and it would seem there are no Developers working or at least having good progress on a AOSP rom.

OK, I like the OP2 a lot.....for the money. It's a great phone for the money. You can't spend this "little" and expect a lot more. The screen is NOWHERE near as good as any recent AMOLED. To anyone claiming burn in is still an issue, I say that's overblown. I've had more phones than I care to even admit to and I've had burn in only once. That was with the N6 and that was an older Samsung panel. The op2 screen looks nice enough with no other phone as a reference. Put it next to any recent samsung and you see how washed out the OP2 panel looks. That being said. This phone is NOT a flagship killer, its simply a really, REALLY good phone...for the money. If this phone made by Samsung ppl would be up in arms about its shortcomings. But bc its made by an obscure Chinese company that makes ridiculous marketing claims we all buy in to a degree. Again, I love the phone. It's great..for the money. Don't expect perfection and you'll be happy with it.

I just RMA'ed a S6 with burn in and got my replacement today which I plan to sell. So, it still happens and on my device it didn't take much. I hadn't had any problems with any of my prior AMOLED screens I would have agreed with you, but I used a background pic from the S6 promotional material that said "Six Appeal". After removing the background I could see the words any time I had a grey or white background... such as anytime I used XDA. Fortunately for me, the phone had a camera defect and I was able to RMA it. Regarding the burn in, they basically just said "too bad". Considering I just finished dealing with the issue, this is probably why I am so sensitive to it being a concern.
BTW, as mentioned, I have both phones and think the S6 screen is only minimally better after adjusting screen settings on the OP2. I have both of them in front of me right now. I will say, the default screen settings for the OP2 don't help the first impression and I originally thought it was very washed out comparatively.
As a point of mention just for anyone out there new to the technologies: burn in will always be a potential design risk with AMOLED technology. As any pixel is used it will wear ever so slightly. The rate of wear may improve in future generations, but the wear itself is an inherent part of the technology. The good news is that if you are careful, you can probably avoid the problem for the most part. Static parts of the screen with high contrast like the top bar are at risk because they often have the same pixels being used.
Also, "Super AMOLED" isn't actually any better than an AMOLED from the standpoint of screen quality. It is just Samsung's made up term for when they fuse a digitizer into the display vs having it as a separate layer. The underlying display is still the same.

I have the same installed, a stock nexus 5 with the official 6.0 firmware is much smoother. you'd say the UI is lag free, for the most part that's true, but once you open an app it takes a bit of time for the app to actually load, where in android 6.0 of nexus 5 you don't see that. none the less, the phone is fantastic, just needs some more working on before they can actually call it a well built stock firmware.

I agree with you, I had a Nexus 5 but I sold it right before Marshmallow was released for it, but even with 5.1.1 it was smooth as hell, I'm yet to see a phone that is as smooth as the Nexus 5.. OnePlus 2 just needs some time to get the right software, it was only released 3 months ago anyway.

agreed, OP needs to completely debloat their software, make it completely stock, optimize it, then add extra features to it. a rom that's 1.1GB in size tells you quite a lot vs the cyanogenmod .4GB. They need to take it from ground up to even match cyanogenmod in terms of performance and UI experience. I mean look at nexus 5, no matter what rom you put in it, the stock one was always better, smoother UI, better performance, at one point installing a custom kernel made the phone unstable and killed battery life faster.
right off the bat, OP2 users started installing AK kernel to eliminate lagg issues and battery life issues. What does that tell us? the underlying software is not very good, the kernel probably does lots of wasteful debugging and 2 cores almost always offline. The idea is there, but the implementation of the idea seems like to have "workarounds" rather than actual redesigning of the code to coop with the ROM's needs. I mean no one even bothered to create a custom ROM based on the official ROM. The first things that came out for the nexus was the custom ROM based on the official sources.
I'm sorry OP2, but nexus 5 was the real flagship killer, I still have the phone (though had to replace the power button). battery life was good for me, lasted 17-20 hours. Hopefully OP can start to understand that user requests and bug reports should not be worked with using the "workaround" style, but instead to fix issues from the foundation of the ROM, optimize it then release it. Maybe they can release a lightweight version, or a stock AOSP version with everything functional. CM will probably beat them to it at this rate.

It is like a downgrade, not an upgrade. You lose the waterproof ness, the superb camera screen and the sd. You will only have 6GB ram (not all of them are actually usable. It is a placebo)

Its more of a sidegrade, lol!
It has some aspects that people would consider switching for.
Like the 6GB of RAM. AOSP support. Snapdragon CPU (maybe)
If its going to be like the OPO it will have a great development userbase. And alot of development roms.

Move from a QHD screen on the S7 to an old HD screen on the Oneplus? Never.

TLR, noticeable pentile matrix (hello 2010), horrible color accuracy (worst they've seen since doing display testing on phones).
Of course, I use my Gear VR quite a bit so that immediately rules out the OnePlus 3. No microSD storage also doesn't help me.

However, I am considering changing my P9000 for the OP3 but I am waiting to see if they can sort the display out somewhat first? - The P9000 has the best display of any phone I have seen
Its only the camera that could be better.
I hang on to my S7E until I see what Samsung come out with next.

The only good quality about the oneplus 3 is the unlocked bootloader and large development community. I've read the anandtech review and the screen seems like a big disappointment but most other reviews seem to think it's a pretty good one which is confusing lol
I'm looking for Samsung hardware with stock Android and so far this phone doesn't exist.

IMHO compared to the S7 Edge the Oneplus 3 is overall inferior in many hardware aspects.
Pros:
64GB internal memory
6GB RAM (but currently poorly managed without applying a fix...)
Type-C USB
Cons:
less LTE bands
worse AMOLED screen (and non-edge)
worse camera quality
worse flash and autofocus
no microSD card
no heart rate and SpO2 sensors
worse battery
worse fast charging (Oppo's based and not standard)
no wireless charge
no water resistance
and IMHO the Exynos 8890 is better then the Qualcomm 820...
Oneplus 3 price is attractive, but you get what you pay for.
However unfortunately IMHO the S7 Edge is still overpriced...

I ordered one because my work pays for part of the cost. The initial reviews are ok. A firmware upgrade or rooting can help it be better.

Apparently there's going to be an update that deals with the screen accuracy issues.

Had OP2, had nice specs, but in reality it sucked mostly because of the half cooked software. Even though OP seems to be fixing it with OP3 I will never buy from Oneplus ever again
If you consider the overall experience, for what I am in love with the s7 edge, let it be display, battery, software(controversial), the extra samsung features, VR, camera, aesthetics, stability (really important) etc , s7 edge leaves OP3 way behind.

No way! Such a downgrade und even worse software. But I consider upcoming HTC nexus, because of this typical samsung's software issue

It seems like a decent device. But the problem is that I already own and can afford my S7E. I don't see anything wrong with the one plus 3, and especially for the price.
But I wouldn't dream of leaving my S7E for it. Worse camera. Worse battery life. Screen is lower resolution, which isn't that big of a deal for me, but it is a con, for sure. The only pluses are the fact that there is no edge, which helps while holding, and the 6gb of ram, which is also questionable for the moment. No doubt that it will be the next big thing as well.

If you could (for free), would you switch to Galaxy S8+?

I'm switching my Galaxy S6 Edge after long using it and I have 2 main choices: OnePlus 5 (128 GB version) or the Galaxy S8+
The main reasons for me to choose the OnePlus are the faster and cleaner android performance, even though I'm a Galaxy user since the Galaxy 2 I never liked the bloatware and the oxygen OS looks wonderful.
The reasons for taking the S8+ are... Well everywhere I searched and almost any review by people who used them both are saying that it is the best android smartphone there is.
Except the reviews, the camera and amazing display and quality are much better.
After a couple of days, and hundreds of video and written reviews and comparisons I still couldn't choose so I decided to ask here, after you've used OP5 for some time, if someone approached and offered you to switch your OP5 with a S8 for free, would you do it?
Please note that cost is not an issue, here in Israel the S8+ costs about 300 ILS (about $85) more than the OP5 and i can afford it if it's worth it.

Nope. OP5 has far superior battery life, it is faster and dash charging is amazing, more ram and storage and basically Stock Android! The S8 has a better display but I'm OK with 1080p (didn't think I would be coming from 1440p phones) as I don't care about VR. Also, better updates and more frequent to date.

I switched from the S8+, the near stock Android is unbeatable for fluidity and just quality of life. Everything seems more iOS like on stock (or near it) Android. And when I say more iOS like I mean the good things about it, such as the fluidity and overall polish.

I switched from the S8. OS is light-years better. I don't need all the gimmicks and love quick updates. Portrait mode is a plus for taking pics of the family.

I'd trade, try it out for a bit, then sell it for another phone lmao. Maybe a Z2 Play or Mi A1. Who knows?

You probably should ask that question in a more Samsung friendly thread because people here are obviously going to be biased. The OP5 is better if you are into rooting or customizing your phone. But it also has terrible camera software --I could take better low light pictures with my $200 Samsung Galaxy J3. The other thing Samsung phones have going for them is the build quality. I've never owned a Samsung phone that broke before I was ready to replace it. I don't think the OP5 has comparable build quality. But if you like to root your phone and flash custom kernels and ROMs the OP5 may be the best phone on the market.

For the looks yes, I came from a s6 edge+ and my girl has a normal s8, but for overall experience, speed and stuff I would def choose the 5, and if I want looks, I just hold my girls phone for a few sec..

They could pay me money on top and I would never come back to Samsung!

As you may have noticed, most of oneplus's users (including me) see the OP5 as a superior device to the s8.
Most people are not buying this phone because it's cheaper.
Coming from an s4, I was considering the s8 and the oneplus 5. But I am going for the OP5, because I think it's the superior device.

I haven't used Samsung devices much, but simply because I am able to mod this (custom ROMs, kernels, etc.) with virtually no bloatware and heavy skins (such as TouchWiz) makes this the better option for me.
The S8 does have a nice design though, and from reviews/feedback, seems like it has a better camera as well; but that isn't enough for me to switch over.
The 5 is a great device and I think if you choose it, you won't be disappointed!

Considering the fact that I'm switching from the LAGGY S8+ to the OP5 then I guess the answer to this would be NO

I could go either way except for the fact that I need dual sim cards so I don't have to carry 2 phones. I used an s8 for a couple weeks before switching to the op5. They both have there pros and cons which have all been touched on here. I won't switch but I would be happy with either phone. I think the s8 design is prettier and more impressive but the op5 is easier to use.

S8+ has got a brilliant camera, sd card support and a heap of hardware features to explore. There is always things to find and surprise. Bixby is a little hard to use unless you have a US accent, I find it doesn't understand Aussie to well but it does learn.
The 4gb of ram is noticeable when you hold the Oneplus up to it though.
Oneplus doesn't have sd card support but does have dual sim support. You are stuck with the internal memory you buy so make sure you account for that. It is quick with 8gb ram and easy to flash/theme and mod .
In the end it depends if you like to be able to change roms and mod easily, though the S8+ isn't too hard after bootloader unlock (you just destroy any chance of Samsung honoring your warranty) or like to play with some cool little features you may or may not get over.
It will ultimately come down to you and how you use your device...
Just to be clear here, asking a dev forum of dedicated phone owners how their phone compares to the "competition" is not really going to get you anywhere. Most will fight tooth and nail defending their vaunted purchase and you will get a very biased opinion...
If you don't believe me, ask how it compares to an Apple... Now I've let loose the cat amongst the very heavily armed pidgeons...

Same. Money wasn't the deciding factor for me. I had an S6... the ritual of disabling all the bloat got old. Too many gimmicks. Plus lots of RAM makes me happy.
I'd post in the S8 forum and ask why they chose S8, see what their responses are, and see if you value those things.

Home button and phone unlocking is way better on the OP. Infinity display is nice but also very fragile. I went with the OP5 instead of the S8 for these two reasons and never regret. This phone rocks.

A Google search hasn't helped so far and I'm away from home on vacation without my m9 so it's getting frustrating.
Other than that it's been basically flawless.

One Plus 5 or Note 8

Hi, I need some advice on which device I am going to buy. I'm going to use this I guess 3 to 5 years as I dont replace my phone that often so this thread will help A LOT. I'm basing on some reviews, speed tests, but the two seems to be on par with each other. Price is/may kind of an issue here as I would love to use some of the money (if I buy the OP5) for the after sales and some personal stuff. However if the Note 8 is really "bang for the buck" then I'll gladly go with it. I also tried to search some issues. Here's what I found so far:

GPS Issue
Bluetooth Issue
Overheating issue
Jelly Screen effect
Note 8:
Red tint in a lot of device
Light leak (lights leaking on the side of the phone not much of an issue for me)

I may be wrong with some of this but I've researched and this is what I've seen.
If this is a point to consider, I'm coming from a Xperia Z3Compact which didn't last long (I hated sony to the hell because of this) because of the digitizer issue. However, I enjoyed tweaking that phone. Now I'm forced to use my iPhone5s with jailbreak.
Note: Just to be clear, the devices in comparison are OP5 8gb/128gb and Note 8 6gb/64gb Exynos

Thank you guys. After a long comparison, I'm going for the OP5 even with the rumors of OP5T. I just hate the back fingerprint scanner placements which is the trend now. And regarding with the bezels, I'm more into those phone with bezels on top and bottom for landscape usage. I've been trying the S8+, and some games that I play doesn't maximize or utilize the whole screen which leaves some part of the screen blank. However, the screen in the Note 8 is A1 dont get me wrong, but I'm more into the performance and the OP5's screen is enough. Thank you guys!

You are on the OP5 forum so replies can't be realistic... I prefer the OP5 anyday over any Sammy device for just one reason: the OS. I prefer a clean near stock Android OS over the bloated TW UI but that's just me. Note 8 is a great device and all of Samsung hardware is very well made, but the almost double price and the OS give my vote to the OnePlus 5.

I don't have any heat issues as well. Quite the opposite: It's the coolest device I ever had, much cooler than the Galaxy S5, LG G4 and the HTC 10 which I all had before.
The question, in my opinion, is not "OP5 or Note 8" but "OP5 or HTC U11 or LG V30". But I'm very happy with the OP5!

I've seen the HTC U11, but I'm not a fan of the shiny back and HTC as well haha. About the V30, I guess I can consider it but this bootloop issue prevents me to check on it. Also, I updated the post and added the Jelly effect. Have you experienced it?

No jelly effect on my device.

I came from a s8 and s8 plus and so far beside the screen which to me the op5 looks great screen wise obviously not as great as the s8 but still awesome. And the design of the op5 is more of a shared look with smart phones.
Beside that I am very impressed with the onep5 I do not regret the giving up my s8 for this phone. It's so damn smooth and fluid I've had no hiccups.

I have none of the issues on my oneplus 5 that you mentioned
I'm happy with it.

Well your cons for the OnePlus 5 I don't have any of them. My GPS is rock solid as I use it for work at 2+ hours a day. Locks in seconds and never see drift. Bluetooth? I connect to my 2011 Nissan with no issues and connect it to audio adapter (MPOW to stream Bluetooth Audio to my AUX port) and 2 sets of headphones... never an issue with quality or connectivity. My phone never gets hot and while gaming, i barely notice it gets slightly warm. (EX Kernel manager shows CPU temp at 98F after 30 min of asphalt 8.
Maybe you have a phone you should RMA? But there is no way in hell I'm paying $1000 for ANY smart phone when I can get a phone that's better performing, has longer battery life, faster charging, clean basically Stock Android and likely faster updates then Sammy. I used to be a big Sammy fan but not since i left my Note 4 and got a Nexus 6P and now the OP5.
This isn't a bias, these are what I look for in a phone and the things that made me choose this phone over the S8+, LG G6 and the HTC U11.
The one Phone I would look at today compared to the OP5 is the new LG V30. Simply because It will support the new 600mhz band 71 from T-Mobile. I'd have to see how the battery holds up and how well the OS is optimized cause I'm not a fan of LG and it's skinned OS and it's much slower charging speed.
Update: I forgot to mention the Jelly effect. I heard people saying it effects every phone but I got my OP5 on launch day and I can tell you more then a dozen people have looked at my phone and no one can see a "jelly effect" If mine has it it's so minimal its not noticeable. I believe the severity vary's a lot.

I'm really a fan of SPen but the price really kills it. I thought the price would go lower because of the Note 7 issue haha! I've read some reviews about V30 and its impressive. However I'm really not a fan of LG's OS. I tried G6 and its not for me. But I'll try V30 some other time. About the jelly effect, when I've seen the issue in youtube it made me dizzy a little bit but I dont know if I'll be affected in real life. There little to no demo phones of OP5 here in my country. Well, I purchased the phone 1 week ago, and yes, Jelly Effect is presented, but it's barely to notice. So really nothing which I'd somehow annoying. And the performance and battery life of this phone are outstanding

go for oneplus5.. best device that you can get...samsung sucks

Yeah I also have a theory that the when the jelly effect on a video capture, that the recording enhances the effect, especially in slow motion. I think it's far fewer people say they see then the people who say they can't see it all all.

The Note's screen is better and the S Pen is great.
I owned a Note 4 but could got tired of all bloatware and Samsung in general. I know Touchwiz has improved but it's still too much.
Super happy with the OP5. I mostly used the S Pen for navigation and I use a simpler stylus I found on Amazon on the OP5 and it works great.
No issues with GPS, bluetooth or anything else for me.

The Jelly effect is present on my device, but I don't even notice it anymore more. Very rarely.
I'd go for the OnePlus 5 just because of the price. I can't see how the Note 8's camera, screen, waterproofing and microSD slot make up for that $500 difference. The Note 8 can't even make up for the $200 difference from the S8, and those are nearly identical phones in many aspects.
I chose the OnePlus 5 for the following reasons:
- Performance
- Development community and support
- Price
Samsung tends to have issues with all 3 of the above.
The biggest difference here being the price and you really need to ask yourself "Am I really getting my money's worth?"
I highly doubt the Note 8 is $500 better than the OnePlus 5 or 2-300 better than any other Flagship launched this year.

Very cool running device... GPS issue may have been the 911 bug, but that was quite a while ago.Jelly Screen seems non existent, but people like to report it never the less (even on moto phone....) Wifi issues? Might be because using inferior x12 modem so I'm disappointed. x16 modem is much better, which is what other flagships using 835 win at. Also oneplus 5 display isn't all that great, just 1080p, it does look good, HOWEVER no support for HDR content i've so ever wanted to view. but 1080p looks very good as any screen if few inches away from.

Kinda sick of hearing the jelly effect as a negative. It's not, its more of an accent flavor. Adding life to scrolling. As for those other issues i have never seen them outside of xXx's rom. Running stock 4.5.12 right now and took a nice drive and my device had me spot on every step of the 2 hour drive. it just depends on what you want. Best hope developer support for the note 8 is more than nothing. Oneplus devices live longer than most devices out there. hell the OPO is on oreo right now. go figure.

Overheating? This phone stays cool with heavy games for more than 40 minutes. I'm not saying as a pro for op5, the note 8 snapdragon version should be the same ( I don't know if there is a snap version for the note).
Jelly is present on EVERY op5, some people see it, some people don't. When I order it I think that the first thing to do was to check the jelly issue, it came and I use it for a day, I didn't remember the jelly issue until I read it in the forum again, and when I scroll fast up and down I see it, but I have to do a fast up and down scroll and be looking for it, I don't see it normal usage. Even it costs me a little to see it intentionally.

I've had my Galaxy Note 4 for four years now, and it's time for an upgrade. The only two phones I've been eyeing are the Pixel 3 XL and the Oneplus 6T. There are some other good phones out there, but the others I've looked at are unrootable. I love the camera on my GN4, and was wondering if anyone here has previously owned a GN4 and can give me a picture/video comparison with the Oneplus 6T? I've seen the reviews between the Oneplus 6T and Pixel 3, and the Pixel 3 wins easily. Sad thing about the Pixel 3 is that it's so expensive and has smaller battery, but I do love the camera results! I just have no frame of reference to compare my aging phone with the newer ones.

Honestly,if you're pleased w/all things in general with the Note 4,you're giving up a lot of features not found on newer devices.
I definitely recommend keeping the Note 4 before switching to another phone (unless you have a trade-in allowance).
If you're not going to miss an SD Card Slot/3.5 mm audio jack/I-R Blaster/LED Notifications/No Notch, then,you have the gains of more RAM & a newer phone w/better battery life/overall performance.
The OP6T is a nice phone,but,honestly,I think an OP5 or OP5T is a better choice,the former if you prefer the navigation similar to that of the Note4.

Comparing phones is subjective at best,just hitting on the features he'd be leaving behind in "upgrading" to either phone.
To some,those features are antiquated,others no so much.
Given the OP has held on to the phone for as long as he has gives me reason to believe the latter....
Too bad the prevailing trend seems to be getting less for more $$$, it's definitely a trade-off.

I've definitely compared what I would be giving up to what I would be gaining. My Sprint GN4 has been unlocked to work with domestic GSM (I have Cricket wireless now) and I have no LTE, and probably missing a few of the used frequencies (although I have never really checked). I love the screen and the camera on the GN4, but I'm stuck on Marshmallow and no security updates. I've tried Lineage OS both Nougat and Oreo, and both have so many bugs, it's not worth the headache. Not to mention it's getting harder to find batteries for it. Most I find now are "new" but end up being used. The GN4 never really did have that great of battery life, so that's one of the things that makes me want to switch to something else. Not that I'm a heavy user, but when you start using the video and taking lots of pics on the GN4, the battery tends to drain quickly. And I was hoping I would get Android Auto to work without having to plug and unplug it several times for it to connect (It's done it on Marshmallow and Lineage OS). It's almost as if it's not loading the applications fast enough for the handshake with the head unit.
I would miss my SD Card slot, that's why I was looking at the 256GB Oneplus 6T model.

The OP6T is a nice phone,but,honestly,I think an OP5 or OP5T is a better choice,the former if you prefer the navigation similar to that of the Note4.
(might wanna Google search a camera comparison of the Note 4 to either/both)

You're definitely in the right place for root/ROMs,OnePlus phones get a good variety of development.
One other feature I failed to address (the elephant in the room, LOL) :
Is the S-Pen something you're using a lot of on the Note4?
If not, then this is the place to be.
Guessing you're aware of the current state of things with the newer US Notes & the pros & cons of importing either version (Snapdragon or Exynos).
If nothing else, most T-Mobile US stores have working demos of the OP6T to test drive, see if it's for you. ?

I was in your same situation. I had GN4 for 4 years and now i bought the OP6t. Honestly i didn't use the camera of smartphone so much and i cant tell you the difference right now but i will do a comparison tomorrow and post the results here
But regarding all other things, the OP6t is the winner. Better display, great battery life, fingerprint sensor is fast enough (never used on note 4 because it was unconfortable for me), there is also the face unlock and it is very fast; you will not see the lockscreen most of times.
The phone is very very fast and well optimized, no lag and didn't heat neither after an heavy usage.
Feel free to ask anything for the comparision

The pixel 3 if you care about taking pics, rest of the hardware and value go for the 6t.

I think in the 4 years I've had the Note 4, I may have used the S-Pen maybe 10 times. It can be handy sometimes, but not really a show stopper for me.
I had looked at the International versions of the Samsung devices (GN9, GS9+) and sadly, I would be missing some frequency bands on those devices too

A good camera is important for me. Although I'm not a professional photographer, it has been one of my hobbies for a while. I've managed to capture some really good shots with my Note 4, hence my particular interest in the OP6T as a cheaper alternative to the Pixel 3 XL. I managed to get a look at a Pixel 3 XL in person today and the notch was like a slap in the face. Although, I do know it can be masked out. I don't have any T-mobile stores around that I know of, so I can't check out the OP6T in person. I'm starting to feel like Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory" where he tries to decide between an Xbox One and PS4

I used the auto mode on both as Note 4 doesn't have the pro mode and also i don't know how to use it on OnePlus 6T.
Well, there is also a port of the google camera for OP6t, I have to try it too, maybe i could take some better shots with it.
Hope this evening i can take some shots with low light and even try the night mode, i will update here if i can

Zekol, I can't thank you enough for those pics! Those were exactly the type of comparisons I needed! The camera's are very close in quality, except the OP6T tends to over sharpen the images just a bit, which may be able to be changed in the app or by use of another camera app. If you do happen to take some night shots, just take a few, no need to work yourself to death

My Friend, you are driving a Model A, it's cool to look back on but this is a modern Corvette, AKA, a performance value able to whoop phones costing twice as much even if it is missing a few Gucci features. I type that having sent the Pixel 3 XL back and buying this phone instead.
The Note 4 was a little before Samsung really started getting good with their cameras, I'm not saying it was bad, I had one and in the day it was great but they got quite a bit more serious a couple iterations later and it shows; their stuff is top notch now. The 6T on the other hand is not top notch now, it's a second tier camera and you can really see this at night where the 6T camera is a fair bit more noise. In the day it's not bad at all though outside of pushing too much contrast outdoors in HDR; the picture will almost invariably turn out with a bright sunny sky looking darker than the reality. Overall though I doubt you will find the camera a downgrade. Portrait mode is actually useful for more than portraits, for example it can make a picture of something like a statue at a museum pop out of the background and it's a nice effect for such photos.
Performance wise this phone is going to be a whole new world of slick, no rom can make up for vastly more computing power elsewhere and you're going to feel it every time you pick up the phone and manipulate the GUI. You're also going to appreciate the little things that OnePlus has injected into the mostly stockish experience. You'll find that OnePlus tends to be an enjoyable ownership experience stock, they are the type of phone that grows on you. Dont want stock you can run dead reliable stockish roms, alternatively, greatly altered AOSP runs which may or may not be , ahem, dead reliable. But that's all part of the fun.
One thing you're going to notice is that the aspect ratio is comparatively sucktacular. The tall thin thing is great for girls but I would much rather have the older aspect ratios. It's annoying as hell when you're surfing the internet in landscape and the website header scrolls down as you scroll down because it can block as much as half the screen and with these thinner aspect ratios that doesn't leave much wihch sometimes making surfing a pain. I'd totally jump on a browser which blocked that behavior, also a phone that went back to the older aspect ratio but I'm digressing. You may not be pleased with the change, all I'm saying.
Minutia... Duel sim is an interesting capability allowing you to ditch a separate work phone, buy data from one carrier, voice and text from another, etc. I think more people would take advantage of it if they gave it a try. You'll be shedding your unholy attachment to chargers and day by day the anxiety you feel when getting too far from a power source is going to go diminish. How much you miss the S-pen will depend on how much you used it. You indicate that was seldom so it shouldln't be a problem. While you may be stepping away from many features I think like most you probably only used a small percentage of Samsung bloat and you're not actually giving up something you never used anyways. The feature thing is not so big as some make out.
All in all I think you're being silly. I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean you've clearly become much attached to what is an ancient device in cell phone terms and your attachment is clouding your judgement. New phones are substantially better in almost every way, I would be surprised if you aren't very impressed with whatever new device you decide to buy.

I loved my Note5 but having passed on the $500 trade in on the T-Mo Note 9 promo (still too expensive), I figured the $300 back on it for the 6T was too good to pass up. But I had many of the same concerns as you - I absolutely loved the screen on the Note5 and the picture taking quality, along with things like the headphone jack and wireless charging. But I bit the bullet because no more security updates for the Note5, no band 71, and I did notice that *maybe* Google apps were running a bit slower than they used to (figured maybe they were starting to be optimized for newer processors). But the phone was still buttery smooth otherwise.
I'm glad I did it though. It just seems so much faster, and that's saying something because I felt my Note5 was generally pretty fast.
The battery life is freaking phenomenal. That's the only reason I haven't missed the wireless charging. The screen is as good as my Note5, but the auto-brightness is not as "perfect" as it was on the Note. I read there is a tweak coming for that, but it hasn't hit the T-Mo version yet.
@krabman has it so so right with the aspect ratio. Sucktacular is a perfect way of stating it. It makes one-handed use very difficult because of how tall it is. But you get used to that part of it. Landscape is definitely less effective.
As for the pictures, I think it's kind of hit or miss. The low light is definitely better, and bright daylight is great, but I'm not convinced photos in moderate lighting is as good. I would still bite on the phone though. The prices they're getting for Samsung flagships these days are ridiculous. If you have other questions, let me know. Cheers.
