Hi All, I have been using the Galaxy S8 for a week now. i have noticed that when using FB Messenger, battery drains faster than any other apps specifically messaging apps. I have also gotten this feedback from other S8 users here.. anyone of u experiencing similar issue???
FB and FB Messenger seem to be battery eaters for me. I switched the Friendly for Facebook app. Full featured but takes a little while to get used to...

Does Friendly support simple Facebook login to other apps (e.g. Spotify)? My main reason behind sticking to the official full app is that not even the FB Lite app supports OAuth login to other apps, it brings up the web wrapper login - which is a hassle since my FB password is 64 characters.

I use Friendly and it brings up a web version of Facebook to auth. I use LastPass app to auto fill my credentials so it doesnt matter how long your password is, it should help you.

Lastpass and other auto password fillers are not an option before 8.0 - they use the Accessibility features of Android which causes incredible lag and power drain.

I had this issue on my myTouch as well but when I get an email from facebook saying someone has commented on a post I made or something similar and I click it I get sent to the ugly mobile site and it just loads the live feed not the actual post. I just wanted to know if there was any fix for this or if it could load the touch site instead (or even better the app) so I don't have to wait to go to my desktop or look though posts in the app since the notifications don't work on the Nexus One yet.
Yeah mine does it sporadically. I haven't used it for a couple of days but maybe it has to be in the current processes list/ list of current applications for it to recognise it, else it opens the browser. Just a suggestion.
The whole notification thing really irritates me. You'd think since it comes with the phone, they would at least check that it works ¬¬
Well the web address sent to you in your email is from facebook.com and it is a http link to the full web site, facebook doesn't know that you're viewing this from your phone. gmail/email on the phone is going to treat these links the same, there's nothing built into the formatting or platform to make these 'special'.
I would recommend you disable email notifications on facebook, and configure notifications within the facebook app. This should get you the behavior you desire.
Ok so since i've fixed my facebook notification issue I actually hate the facebook app. Seriously, what app shows a notification which you have to open via an external link? I thought that was the point of the app? The facebook mobile website is atrocious, and i'd actually prefer to open it in web view rather than mobile view, since that's the point of a smartphone.
I hate to bring it up but even the iPhone did a better job. Almost everything could be done through the app. Almost.
that aint the phones fault its the app developers lol

To anyone having some problems, the best workaround I can find is using Dolphin Browser and changing the User Agent to iPhone. This will automatically pull up touch.facebook.com
Is there anyway to stop chat auto signing in, I find it a pain when I go to check Facebook but don't want to chat. People start chatting or send me messages when I am to busy to chat.

I went back to 1.4.0 because of this.

Just go to the chat section of Facebook for Android, tap Menu, then tap Go Offline and it'll stay that way until you enter the chat section again
Am I then offline at the pc also? So stores facebook that I am offline our only the phone?

THANK YOU,will try this. Hopefully it works
I find it easier to use friendstream. I rarely use the fb app so that removes the chat problem

go to settings, apps, then clear data and cache from facebook app, then download the latest facebook from market, sign in (HERE IS IMPORTANT NEVER CLICK ON THE CHAT TAB) then go to market, download facebook messenger (the official one) and log in the facebook messenger.. thats it...
when you want to be offline, just log out from the facebook messenger app with one click, and if you want to chat just log in in the facebook messenger app with just one tap, also facebook messenger app its better because you can have group chats, and send photos through it
hope this helps you
or just delete the app and use the new HTML5 mobile web interface which is great (it's like the iphone app).
Also do not forget to close all the fb session from the desktop web interface.

Same here! It's a lot better and quicker I find.
Also, I found that when I did use the App to chat it closed the the window on the PC. Don't know whether this is a new feature.
If they just updated it to make it like the HTML5 page it would be a lot better.
Hi,does anyone have an issue with adding Facebook account to the list of accounts under the "Account&Sync" setting? Each time I select the Facebook icon,it doesn't do anything which makes it impossible to create the FB account. I'm trying to make my Facebook contacts available/visible in the stock android contact app just like the HTC phones
Same problem here.

same here...
i think the facebook app is not compatible fully to honeycomb
cheers guys,i thought as much i.e. the fb app not being compatible
will the facebook will be compatible, because it's suppose to be SOCIAL NETWORK Friendly, (social jogger...)
so should be 100% facebook compatible, but the problem come from facebook as well so far the latest version is not stable.
both of part have to works on it.
I ll wait.
Google has specifically mentioned that Facebook account sync (contact sync) has been disabled in 3.0 and upwards due to privacy issues which facebook has not addressed.
So I've downloaded the new Facebook native app and I've noticed that in accounts in system settings a Facebook entry is now there. When I click on it I see contact sync as an option. Does anyone know if this will just sync ALL contacts from Facebook or will it just merge Facebook data with any contacts I already have?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I think it just downloads all your Facebook contacts and you can chose to have the visible under phone contacts.
You could try checking in the Facebook app, under settings, if it has the Sync option => Only existing contacts as an option, then it will merge.
Thanks Mate, unfortunately no such option in this facebook app like there is in the iOS one. I don't understand how facebook could miss this huge option in their grand native app release... :-/
download haxsync from the play store, it works waaaaay better than regular fb sync ever did. or use a custom ROM that supports native fb sync. I think modaco ROM has it

It's because Facebook and Google disagree on something and Facebook disabled this option for AOSP roms.
HTC and other manufacturers running Android have this functioning with the Facebook app out of the box.
But as suggested use Haxsync, works great, use it myself. It syncs high quality photos and it has face recognition so it only syncs faces.
I am not too happy about being forced to FB Messenger and don't want to install it since it uses so many permissions on my phone that I don't want it to use...
Those who are rooted, etc and using things like Xposed, App Setting, etc... is there anything out there I can use to block FB Messenger for having so much access to my phone?
Many don't care as it is like #1 out there but I so care...any advice fam..??
You might be able to use app ops to restrict certain access to your device. Probably the best way is to actually advance freeze (Rom toolbox) and go through and see how much you can disable before the app becomes unstable

Fwiw, I uninstalled the FB app ages ago. I just put a shortcut on my desktop to visit FB on my browser.
I use my Twitter program to natively share pics/links to FB, and you can set up FB to e-mail notifications (I don't have any) for just about anything....then you can set up a filter and subscribe to that folder for your Facebook notifs, if you wanted to go crazy.
