Yes. You can downgrade 15a with any KDZ with Uppercut.

Not to sound rude, but if you really felt like something like this needed to be "verified" then do it yourself, or don't ask.
Yes, it works. I've done it. I dont know what more you need, but I ain't doing any more than trying to help the guy out. You're on the internet, so if you need that much verification then do it yourself.

Wow really. It was a simple question. I used the software on my own V20 but not from that build. Verizon inabled the antirollback on this new update. that's why I asked. Plus if it was my phone I would do it but being its my wife's I rather be safe then sorry. Last I new XDA is were you read and ask questions. Ill be sure to not ask you for any info or help in the future.

I literally answered a question, then you followed up by requesting verification on that answer. That's pretty rude dude, if that's how you handle your questions then yeah don't ask please.
But in an effort to help, I wasn't aware of any anti-rollback in place. However, since I personally wanted to try the newest update, I just took the Ota to 15a. Then, using Uppercut, went back to 12a.
If that's your plan, to go back to either 12a or 13a, I'd recommend right after Uppercut completes to do a factory reset as you will likely get overwhelmed with force closes (kdz with uppercut doesn't wipe data). Then after you're on a clean slate 12a or 13a, right away enable airplane mode so your phone doesn't hang trying to download everything. All you're interested in is enabling USB debugging for dirty santa (i assume).
Make sense?

When I ask verified I ment was it in a thread or something didn't know for 100% if you did it or read it and if I'm not mistaken the last update was also bootloader unlockable. I read the forum a lot I ment no disrespect when asking the question. As you can tell I've been a member about as long as you and come to XDA very often. Granted yes Google does work but when i looked in to it about the downgrade all I found was how the verizon V20 has gotten root witch was a old article as we all know. I unlocked mine on version 12. Thank you for your reply it was helpful and now I feel safe enough to do my wife's phone.

however i do face smart a$$es with the let me google this for you and knowing that it wont be on the top to what i am looking for, i faced that issue when i got lucky to my on android 5.1.1 on my v10 and some people did not wont to make it easy, it took me a few hours to find to do a 30 min root method
some times you dont need a verified post and do understand about the anti rollback but i dont see anyone lieing to make you purpusly mess up your phone or they can face problems
there are a few people i knew that are no longer on xda cause of issues and xda banned them for it, so you have no worries. if you want me to make a video of downgrading 15A to 13A that is rootable i be glad to take that guys word, credit him on the video and show proof

Yes, I have faced similar issues. But I always fall back on Uppercut. If you're truly stuck then try to wipe everything including internal storage, system, etc. Then do the Uppercut method, that always fixes every issue I've had.
Edit:to be clear, I've had plenty of issues similar to you. However, rather than identify the problem I always just wipe the slate clean. With that said, I suspect a lot of what you're facing and issues I had were kernel related.

If you wanted to troubleshoot what you have now, you could try a different kernel or even stock boot.img would be best. If still no change then always fall back to the full wipe and Uppercut.

I personally use reStock or modStock. Those both have been successful for me.
Check here for the stock boot.img https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/device-kernel-aka-boot-img-s-carrier-t3533426
No need for the shoutout or anything. I'm just passing the info along that might help.

Well my phone got so worse that i could not make a facebook call to my girl. It was always choppy like wtf. So i took your first idea. Wipe the POS, system, cache etc. And uppercut it. Now it runs snappy with 13a with root and restock. I checkout the link when i get home. As for the shoutout its for the help you give me. The devs will get their thanks for making things possible i give this phone another month and see if it works. If it dose with all bs off of it (bloatware) i make a video for those who was asking for it. Thanka for the help you are awesome and i keep you updated how my v20 is. My brothers wife has same issues i do and if my phone works maybe she will let me root hers. Just hope they dont give out a update with anti rollback

Glad you got yours taken care of. Did you do the airplane mode thing? I only bring it up because I flip flop back and forth so many times from stock unroot to root access (I'm indecisive).
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think as long as we have the kdz file, there will always be a way to downgrade. I think the kdz is a total device wide wipe/reinstall regardless of whatever version was on before.

true but i want to know if you dont mind testing new OTA when they come out to see if they can downgrade, if you dont wont to its fine i dont wont to take the chance as the phone has been a POS and hoping the full wipe/ uppercut fixes my issue forever at least, reasion im asking to test is im pretty sure my brothers wife updates her phone and i am trying to get to to let me have the phone so i can fix it and give it back so she can atleast be happy with a phone with no regrets

I have a VS995 I took the OTA 15A updated and I just used LGUP to downgrade back to 12A
Off subject question did you notice your GPS taking forever to find your location on google maps or waze while your VS995 was rooted. I kept having this issue so I went back to full stock and the issue went away.

No harm,no foul,we've all done similar on at least one occasion.
You're a good man for offering to help ! :good:
Any help with that?
I am also awaiting an answer.
My last 2 Samsung phones had issues and I needed to Odin back to stock for warranty exchange at T-Mobile.
So I'm holding off on rooting till we have something of the sort for the v20.
Using Odin to flash my s7e back to stock while having severe screen issues saved my butt.
I'm on JoD for reference, and needed to switch phones at a brick and mortar.
Side note : loving the blooming development for this device.
Thanks for that, all parties concerned.

Does this unroot method work for the sprint variant? I am stock unrooted on the build the phone came out of the box with, and waiting until rooting isn't a one-way street to take the plunge. If it does, are you 100% certain that it had been used in sprint v20s successfully?
That thread specifically says H918. So no.

You are in the exact same position as me. I'm excited that we have an unlocked bootloader and root for the Sprint variant, but I have no desire to do anything until there's an established procedure to unroot and revert back to stock.

Here's hoping it's taken care of. Sprint didn't used to be such a **** when it came to bootloaders. Anyways, I appreciate all the hard work the devs have been doing. Can't wait until I get the chance to experience it. With a stable 200mhz overclock, there's no functional difference between the snapdragon 820 and the snapdragon 821.
Do any of the posted methods work to restore the VS995 variant to stock?
I really want to go ahead and root it (and yes, have disabled updates so still run 12A since I knew VZW was going to be evil and patch it) but I'm very hesitant to do so without a way to restore to stock. Is it one of those things that's just a matter of time, or is there a substantial likelihood it may never be possible?

To any sprint user who has rooted using dirty santa or plan to root please look here.

Hello all! I am me2151 as you know as the poster of DirtySanta. I am in need of YOUR HELP now! I am working on a ZV6 base rom so other devs can update their roms but we have an issue. I need a STOCK system backup through twrp. This HAS to be done BEFORE flashing my sprint rom on the OP of Dirtysanta. If you have a backup already made PLEASE sent me a pm of it. If you have not rooted and plan to root please PM me ONLY if you are NOT on ZV6.
Unfortunatly any backup made AFTER flashing a rom will not work. I ONLY need a system backup made before your first flash.
Thanks, Me2151
Bump. If anyone has a unrooted v20 for the cause please pm us. We strictly need a fresh backup of a unmodified zv5 v20 post flashing anything. Stop after step 3 in dirty santa and use twrp to backup the system and upload via Google drive or android file host.
This would be extremely helpful.
I have rooted every single phone right up to my Nexus 6. I have to say, all the steps for the V20 have made me very hesitant to root this phone. I am not rooted and on ZV5. If you would like I can help you step by step to get your phone rooted and the backup i need if you want.I would use teamviewer to control the pc to basically do most of it. you would only be required to do a couple things on the phone and to download the rom you want. If you want stock you WILL have static unless you use the werewolf kernel. but im not sure of the bugs with werewolf.
Go ahead and PM me.
EDIT: If you wish to do it by yourself stop when you first boot into twrp and PM me so i can make sure the backup is done right.
unfortunately, i have nothing i can contribute to this effort. at some point in time, the backup that i did have went the way of the dodo.
just curious however....
will we (ls997 users) have to resort to finding a willing participant to root a phone each update?
it may be a dumb question, since zv6 going forward the CoW exploit was fixed, but, I will leave it there just the same.

yeah but no...
backing up for backup sake, hard drive failure, operator error, those are things to be cognizant of, absolutely..
theft? not so much for me. im from a small enough town that i do not lock my car doors at night (granted, nothing is left in it to steal, but still..) usually.
theft for theft's sake is not something i am used to dealing with, and as such, it seriously chaps my ass to hear stuff like this.

yes. we only need a backup of system. all personal information is located in data or internal storage. Speaking of storage. backup your internal storage tonight( just copy everything on there using windows and a usb cable) and download the rom you want to use.

I think the hardest part should be to try to flash the twrp (but even that was easy at least for me an average flasher and tester). If you have any issues, the system will usually restore to the original image as a last resort.

Thanks! I'm on 10i.
I'm guessing following this guide is my best bet:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h918-recowvery-unlock-v20-root-shell-t3490594/
What is the 'H91810j KDZ' version I see online?

yeah. that's the original thread. and i think somene also recopied it on his own word on another thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/instruction-to-root-h918-10i-t3536472
The 10j kdz version is to be flashed with LG UP if you needed it. but up to now it is better you dont move further from 10j, because 10k is not rootable (i believe I've seen). If you want to have 10k you can flash 10j and then flash via twrp a zip of the stock rom with 10k

I'm at the last step; are there any advantages to disabling encryption? Any reason why I may/may not want to do this?

Encryption is mostly used for companies as extra security . But if i dont misremember , it is necessary to do it. Best thing would be to follow the instructions provided on the original thread.
T-Mobile LG V2010t
Hey all I new at all this and I'm trying to unlock or root my T-Mobile LG V20. I've never done any of this stuff, but I want to be able to use this phone on a network other than T-Mobile. Can anyone give this rookie ( me) some help?
T-Mobile won't unlock it for me. The day there is a balance owed on it. And when I tried the unlock app. It say failure in processing the request. Please reboot and try again.. If you can walk me through this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Why did you reply to a post from last year for this?
Rooting has nothing to do with network unlocking the phone (and if it's on 10t or really anything past 10k it's unrootable anyway).
Your best option is to get T-MOBILE to unlock it, otherwise there are some other third party websites which may be able to unlock it for a fee.

I'm sorry my bad. I'm new here and did know how to start a thread. I just thought someone here might be able to help me. I didn't want to cause any problems. But I've tried T-Mobile support,T-Mobile store' called around here and tried several online 3rd party. And because of the message I get when I try to unlock it, nobody can help. So I figured there were some smart people here, they might be able to help me (rookie). Sorry I caused you trouble.

This is the only one that I know of that will root the Nougat version of the S7 Edge. It is a very long thread, and there is a lot of information that can help. I know it works as I tried it on my G935U at one time.
Anyway here's the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...eres-how-rooted-nougat-s7-edge-g935t-t3567502

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

Great info. Thanks!
One followup--when you say Xposed doesn't work, do you mean you tried the newest Nougat version that just got released? Or it never worked, not even on M?

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.

LS99720a - Any way to root JUST for deleted file recovery? Don't need other stuff.

Title. I no longer use this phone but I would _love_ to be able to get deleted stuff off of it. I did this in the past with my old LG G3 and never had any issues like this phone has with getting to root. I tried it when I first got the phone, tried it a year later. never worked. Now trying 3 yrs lol. Is there anything I can do or am I SOL?
@Phoenix591 already answered this for you on Reddit. I don't know what else to tell you.
Original Reddit post for anyone else who is reading
Thats an Oreo version, and so is past the point of no return. It's unrootable. Tiny electronic fuses have been physically burned to prevent it from booting rootable firmware.
As I mentioned the last version that has the ability to return to a rootable version was ZV7 (the actually rootable versions were ZV5 or earlier, however LS997 did updates weird which ment that firmware wasn't available to flash using the same tools other models use... If on ZV6 or ZV7 its possible to root by crossflashing another model's firmware briefly ) , which was a few updates before oreo came out.

i know you answered it, i just wanted to see if there was any other sort of input anyone could give. just really desperate i guess. i guess i will never be buying thru sprint again.

Unfortunately, the LS997 ended up being more limited than the other carrier-specific models. However, root access is getting harder to come by on new carrier-specific devices in general.
