Note 4 Rooting help - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Brand new to rooting, apart from watching my brother do it many years back on his and my old phones.
I own a Note 4 SM-N910U, with the build number "LMY47X.N910UXXU1COI2". I followed the rooting tutorial on here (which was made back in 2014), and I kept getting into a boot loop with the error 'Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing'. Upon research, I read somewhere that android 5.1.1 require you to flash on a custom kernal as they enhanced their security to try stop people from rooting (quickly googled; so i may have that wrong! )
Is anyone able to help me find a solution to how to get my phone rooted/flashed. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

1. From Odin, flash TWRP
2. Boot to twrp, and then flash some rom, or supersu.
3.done
Better look for xda, to get precise steps of what i said.

[Q] Accidentally killed stock recovery

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forums so if I am breaking any rule or regulation, just give me a heads up. So, some basic information about my predicament.
- own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Verizon.
- I use t-mobile network. Works great with no problems.
- phone was successfully rooted via towel root.
I was looking to get cynagenmod on the phone so I started looking up guides and such. Only thing I wasn't aware of was that carrier branded versions can't have their recovery flashed. That said, I used flashify and the clockwork apk. The app did its job, killed the stock recovery, but couldn't load the new one. Now the phone says error, no recovery when trying to access it during boot.
It should be said that the phone still boots and works normally but I really want to get the recovery working so I can at least try again the right way to get cynagenmod working.
My question is, is it possible to get my hands on the stock recovery for my phone and just flash it back to how it was? Basically, how do I fix this problem I put myself in. Of course, I didn't make backups. During the whole process, I figured "if I follow this tutorial word for word, why bother with backups?" look how wrong I was
Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I'm posting this from my replacement phone, not my note 3.

Cant install custom recovery or root

Hey guys
So i got my galaxy s5 yesterday after my phone contract and because my previous phone was an a3 and there is no custom roms for this i was looking forward to getting my s5 and rooting, getting a custom recovery, custom rom etc but no matter what i do i cant get the custom recovery to boot thus meaning i cant root either every time i try and flash TWRP, CWM or philz it simply goes to a screen where i get the 'recovery is not seandroid enforcing' or something along those lines and then i get a blank screen and have to do a battery pull, i can get into the main system alright but just have no luck whatsoever getting into recovery does anyone have any suggestions? it is a SM-G900F and its a European edition if that helps at all
Thank You in advancew!

I actually just managed to solve it, i was using twrp 2.8.5.0 and after a bit more looking around apparently newer s5's are having problems with this, downloaded the 2.8.7.0 and it worked straight away!

Looking for help on Unlocking Bootloader and Running Resurrection Remixed on G-900V

Hi all,
I'm new to rooting and modifying my Verizon S5 - so I don't have the most technical knowledge of Android nor do I have a deep understanding of related jargon yet. Recently I was able to root my phone using jrkruse's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370). I then wanted to flash a new ROM - Resurrection Remix MM in particular. Through some research this seemed the best to my needs.
I understood that to do so I needed to first unlock my bootlader. So to do so I followed GeTex's post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909. I followed Method 1. All was well until the step of installiong Bootloader_Unlock_Safestrap.apk to my phone. After doing that and installing safestrap again like the guide said, I went to reboot my phone into recovery mode, however, initially there was only a black screen. Then, a message told me that Safestrap was disabled and gave me the options of recovery or allowing to continue. Here is a photograph of the screen (found online, not my own imagehttp://img.wonderhowto.com/img/99/57/63530107864095/0/install-custom-recovery-new-rom-your-bootloader-locked-samsung-galaxy-s4.w1456.jpg) Tapping "recovery" brought me to Safestrap and tapping "continue" made the screen black again - no Samsung or Verizon load screen followed.
Thinking that maybe this was normal, and that I had to flash one of the safestrap bootloader unlocks, I flashed SafeStrap_PD1_Bootloader_Unlock_AIO.zip as the phone was in safestrap. After that, any way of starting up my phone showed me a small message in red at the top of my screen saying my kernel was bad or broken (sorry I don't know the message verbatim - I should, but it was a while ago and I was in a hurry to have a functioning phone ASAP for work and was immediately concerned with unbricking my phone rather) a warning sign (big triangle with a !) telling me to use VZW software repair.
If anyone can pick out specifically where I went wrong, that would be great. However, as I'm a noob and there's a lot of room for error, that may be easier said than done.
It would also be helpful if someone could tell me (or link me guides) how to set up Resurrection Remix (or any other great ROM you would recommend) on an S5 G-9000V.
Also, any general advice for a noobie looking to optimize his Android would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Love this community for how quickly and how well they help out people with troubles like this
Bumping this, looking for help.
Would love some tips, even if they're simple general direction on how to set up this rom.
Thanks all!

After you have unlocked your bootloader, you should just flash the new recovery (I use TWRP) using Odin software. Once TWRP recovery is installed, boot to TWRP recovery and flash RR RoM. Just follow the RR RoM thread and choose Verizon variance.
I don't use safestrap anymore once I were able to unlock my bootloader. Just make sure that your bootloader IS IN FACT UNLOCK, before you can flasH TWRP.

Thanks a lot for your help, but I just did some more research and found out that my eMMC was in fact Toshiba, while I had originally thought it was Samsung. Oh well! Guess I'll stick to TW based ROMs on my firmware. I was thinking of going with MOAR Lollipop.

How to properly flash a custom rom?

Hi guys,
So it's been quite a long time since I last attempted to root or flash a custom recovery/rom on an android device... So long in fact that I can only remember as far back as the Sony-Ericsson Xperia X8, and the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Since then, I've become VERY rusty because, due to the area of work I'm in, I needed an iPhone (oh jeez was that just torture).
Anyway, I'm now an owner of an 8GB Samsung Galaxy J5 (SM-J500FN) and being quite tech savvy, you can probably guess that I've already run out of the 4GB space provided. So, I've decided to try and jump back into the world of rooting and flashing custom roms/recoveries.
BUT! Because I've been out for so long, my young, naive, scared Sh*tl*ss self has re-emerged, because he's looked through LOADS of threads and guides on how to do this and has gone... NOPE!
So this is why I'm here. I'm very aware that there are loads of guides out there, but I've a few questions about it all, and hopefully with any luck, this could be turned into an AiO (All in One) guide for those just starting with this concept.
Even so. Here's a few things I'd like out of this... First, I'm very much interested in having TWRP as my recovery. I did use CWM back in the day but found it non-user friendly (but that's just me). I'd also like to have either Cyanogen 12.1 or 13 (though I've seen that there are still bugs in 13 whereas 12.1 is virtually bugless).
So here are my questions:
I've read that you need a key to unlock the Samsung Bootloader to enable you to flash TWRP. Is that true with the J5? (NOTE: I did enable OEM Unlocking in the Developer options)
If I flash TWRP, will my phone get completely wiped, or not?
Will KNOX try to interfere with the flashingof TWRP, or once TWRP is flashed, will KNOX generally bugger about with the phone? (I've heard that KNOX will prevent the device from accessing Samsung servers if it deems the device to be "Unofficial")
How likely is it to brick the phone through flashing the recovery?
I know those questions are probably really simply answered in guides but that's not the point of this, I'd rather have somewhere, one place, where people can see all the answers rather than having to go looking for hours and end up getting very scared! xD
Finally:
How do I flash TWRP onto my J5 (SM-J500FN)? (I've seen loads of guides to this all doing it in very weird and colourful ways, but all very, very different!) Please don't point me to some random guide, I'd like more of a lay-mans terms on how to do this as it's all confusing.
How do I flash Cyanogen 12.1/13? (Is this the same as CWM where you click "Install" select the .zip and then it does it for you?
As said above, this is designed mainly for piece of mind, but also a more definitive thread to how to successfully achieve this!
My experience of flashing TWRP is from using the same phone as yourself SM-J500fn and its all really simple.
Please remember that I'm just another guy who uses this site so I'm only sharing my experience of using the same phone.
You have already unlocked the OEM in the developer settings so no need to worry about bootloader like in some other phones.
Make sure that you download the most current version of the recovery that you want to use.
I had trouble with a recovery before and it was just due to the fact that the recovery was not good.
I'm pretty sure that you will lose all warranty from flashing a custom recovery but KNOX has not given me any trouble.
I didn't lose any info off my phone when I simply flashed a recovery only when I either flashed a new ROM via ODIN or a custom ROM via TWRP.
It was a really simple easy thing for me to do. Once i made sure that I had all the drivers and ODIN and TWRP downloaded then out only took a few mins.
Installation of Cm 12.1 was just a case of pressing the correct buttons but I made sure I did a full back up and good wipe before installing.
I have purposely only given you my experience of doing this no guides / downloads etc. I'm not a developer just somebody who enjoys paying around with my Android phone.
Hope that was of some help. I'm happy to share what experience I have.
John
Not sure what guides you have looking, but not the right ones.
1- No key needed to unlock bootloader, only OEM Unlocking
2- TWRP will wipe the partitions you select, but that doesn't mean more user space, the user space partition (internal data) size is fixed
3- KNOX doesn't interfere, KNOX is a system protection on Samsung ROMs
4- If you read the instructions carefully there's problem, it's not that difficult
You need a recovery based on what ROM you will install
[RECOVERY] [TWRP-3.0.2-0] Samsung Galaxy J5 [MM][Android 6.0.1]
[RECOVERY][TWRP 3.0.2-0]TWRP Recovery for Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015) [Android 5.1.1]
Each recovery has is own instructions, just follow and you should have problems, same with custom roms
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][5.1.1]CyanogenMod 12.1 for Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015)
Thats the only build from source (til now), the others are ports, ports can have more bugs a less security updates and CM updates integration.

SOS - OneClick Brick

Greetings,
I need some help. I purchased OneClickRoot for my Verizon S5. Everything went swimmingly right up until it didn't. I got root after several hours with the oneclick tech team. he gave me instructions on how to flash a ROM, but left out the apparently important step where I should have skipped the signature verification. So I had SafeStrap, wiped everything and tried to flash an unsigned ROM. now the phone is dead wit no OS and seemingly no ability to get back to safestrap. Should I just toss this phone in the rubbish and buy a new one or can it be saved? When I boot to recovery, it is Android recovery and it keeps failing on the verification.
All advice is welcome.

I'm unfamiliar with Verizon variants, but have you tried using Odin to flash the original stock?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
Sent from my Samsung SM-G900I using XDA Labs
Yea dude as long as you can get into download mode (or Odin mode whatever you feel like calling it) you're fine just flash whatever version you feel like being on and I would follow these instructions for root and ROMs and possible bootloader unlock since it's Verizon https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529
So Close!!
Thanks for the help. I followed this guide ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529) and got it back; ...sort-of.
In Step 13, I used the 6.0 firmware.
In Step 14 I used the "latest stock rooted Lollipop Rom" that was recommended.
I have what appears to be a rooted 5.0 factory rom installed. However, when booting, I get process stopped errors for the first 2 minutes. Maybe 15 or 20 of them. After that, they stop.
Current Problems:
1) the radios are dead. Wi-Fi will not turn on and it does not know that my SIM card is installed
2) when the screen times-out I have to pull the battery to get it back.
3) All the error messages (android.process.media)
4) It does not see the SD card
Questions:
A) Can you help me fix the radio problems?
B) Once I get the radios working again, can I flash any G900V ROM with safestrap and it will likely solve 2, 3 &4?
C) Are the custom roms on 6.0 and higher rooted? I was looking at this one (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-cosmic-os-3-1-t3553838)
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Idk if i can help bt i can try haha Well first thing first it sounds like you used marshmallow firmware but then flashed a lollipop ROM which yes it will boot up bt stuff like your radio and GPS, etc won't work so first thing is first i would say is do a complete wipe and get your self back to stock through Odin and get everything working first before worrying about ROMs then I have to ask is what is what is your emmc are you 15 (bootloader unlock and can easily root 6.0.1 or higher) or emmc 11 (can only root 5.0)
