Phone is softbricked / bootloop. Can access fastboot & flash images. - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings! I`m feeling awfully embarrassed about my lack of knowledge & success with repairing my phone, not to mention the shame about making a thread about it. Alas, hope dies last, and i humbly ask for your guidance. I sincerely apologize , as well as thank you, for the time which you have given by reading this.
What has happened : I made an attempt to root my Android phone for the first time, but apparently, i horribly failed, causing my phone to become stuck in a bootloop. I have read atleast a dozen of different threads & tutorials by now , which either did not help for my specific problem, or / and i`m just too dumb to follow the examples right. At first, i could not access neither stock recovery or fastboot, but i have disconnected the battery and now i can enter fastboot mode.
Some basic specs about the phone :
Phone model before trying to root: Huawei P8-lite , ALE-L21.
Operating system before trying to root: Android Marshmallow 6.
The current state of the phone :
The phone is stuck in a bootloop and cannot start successfully.
I can access fastboot mode by holding down the "Volume -" button & flash images to the phone.
I cannot access stock recovery.
What I have tried to do :
Flash images to the phone`s memory, but there seems to be no result.
Create a folder named "dload" on the memory card & place a file named "Update.app" inside. After doing so, powered up the phone , while holding power & buttons "Volume +" and "Volume -" at the same time. There seemed to be no effect since i could not visually see any changes on the screen.
As i mentioned earlier, i have read about a dozen different guides by now ( hence i feel dumb for not being able to fix it), but the three main examples were these threads :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/step-step-guide-to-unlock-bootloader-t3150616
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/help/huawei-p8lite-bootloop-update-t3179184
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/mega-thread-root-unbricking-updating-t3400994
I hope that, with your experience and guidance, it might still be possible to successfully reanimate & root my phone (As i have read : as long as fastboot is available, there is still hope!).

Jup. Hell you have hope!
1. From update.app extract boot.img and flash with fastboot, and it should be okey. To root MM use Magisk or Chainfire 2.64 both are systemless root, because MM, don't like system mode root!

Greetings, thank you for your advice, but i have already tried doing so , based on this thread as an example (chapter 4): https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/mega-thread-root-unbricking-updating-t3400994. Sadly, that did not help. Perhaps there might be a specific Update.app version of the file , of which i must flash these images?

try to download OpenKirin TWRP recovery (https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/orig-development/twrp-t3583180) and flash it via fastboot. This recovery is able to flash emui update.app zip too so you can install it via TWRP. I tried with b895 (vodafone) from b598 and it worked.

Thank you for your suggestion, i have downloaded the recovery image, flashed it on my phone , using fastboot, but i am afraid that i cannot access the recovery screen. Going by this instruction "https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71429023&postcount=73", quoute from the thread for the necessary steps to access the recovery screen :
press & keep pressed Volume Up
fastboot reboot
disconnect the USB cable as soon as possible !
Currently, i have disconnected the battery on my phone, hence it needs to constantly be plugged in for it to have power. I had to disconnect the battery, otherwise i was not able to access the fastboot screen. Also, my phone could not charge up anymore , when it started bootlooping (tries to charge, starts to bootloop after some time, loses all of its charge from bootlooping, and so on). If i try to press & keep pressed Volume Up , as well as type "fastboot reboot", i simply get back to the huawei logo.

Connect your phone (switched off) to your PC and press Power and vol +. This should start Huawei eRecovery mode and let you restore stock recovery in order to flash update.app through dload mode. Hope this will work. Good luck

Bro, flash System img with fastboot it may unbrick your device! But use same as your lastest firmware! I had same bootloop and this solved

Have you unlocked your bootloader? What message so you get while flashing the images?
Download your version's zip and extract the boot.img from update.app. Then go into fastboot mode and flash the boot.img. That should work out

I can access fastboot mode by holding down the "Volume -" button & flash images to the phone. I am aware that the bootloader is unlocked, since the fastboot recovery screen shows the words "Phone unlocked".

Greetings, ALE-L21 is the model number what I asked for is your build number. The build number looks like: ALE-L21CXXXBYYY where XXX and YYY can vary depending on your region and android version. Anyways, extract the boot.img and try flashing.

Thank you for telling the difference between the build & model numbers. Sadly, i do not know the build number, since i did not write it down before attempting to root

Update: I am now able to access the [TWRP][OpenKirin] by pressing the "Volume +" & power button simultaneously. I will now attempt to flash the necessary images.
Apparently, pressing the "Volume +" & power button simultaneously does not work if your phone is connected to a PC. Simply plugging it to a power bank (wall socket) made the button combination work.

Update : I have successfully gotten past the bootloop by successfully flashing android 6.0 image files (Boot.img , Recovery.img, Cust.img, System.img) via fastboot.exe. The next step was pressing the "Volume +" & power button simultaneously to access the recovery mode. After entering recovery mode , i wiped the partition, and made a factory reset.

P9-lite bricked. Please help!!

SOLVED!
Hi all i just bricked my phone : P9-lite VNS-L31
I managed to unlock bootloader, install twrp and get root permission. Phone worked great. Then i tried to flash xposed and the operation fails due to not enough memory space (!! i have 6gb) and get stuck in bootloop. I made all the possible things i knowed. Tried to use xposed-unistaller.zip (getting other errors like: "no such file o direcory") , wipe cache, dalvik and data and i try also to reflash stock recovery, and to relock bootloader (i can't do that.. why? i get FAILED <remote: command not allowed>) because erecovery and HiSuite can't restore my phone. What can i do?? It's a simple bootloop but i cant restore it. Please help me i have just bought the phone and now i'm very desperate.
I really hope some can help,
Thank you
Can you flash the stock rom through SD card?
Copy the stock rom file to this path: sd card\dload\UPDATE.APP,
Then, presss Volume + , Volume -, and the power keys to force upgrade your phone.
Hi, i solved my problem flashing system.img extracted by an official firmware. Everything ok. If someone need it i can write a little guide now to restore bricked p9-lite with custom recovery and unlocked bootloader (the normal procedure does not work)

So, i think i can help you to fix your phone.
First of all you need fastboot. So check fastboot drivers on your pc and make sure they work
Now download the stock firmware for VNS-L31 here : http://www.androidvillaz.com/2016/0...vns-l31-to-marshmallow-6.0-b100-firmware.html - It's the only version ready to download and an asian version but flashing only system you'll not notice it. All languages available, no differences at all.
Download and install this tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3262545
So using something like 7zip extract the UPDATE.APP file in your desktop for example.
Launch HuaweiUpdateExtractor and select the update.app.
You need to extract SYSTEM.IMG so right click on it and select extract selected.
Now, turn your p9lite in fastboot mode (power off, press vol - and power) and connect it to your pc.
Now launch this : "fastboot flash system "PATH/system.img" " . Remember to replace "PATH/system.img" with the path of your extracted system.img file including the name of the file.
Wait about 3 minutes.
When flash finalize, boot in recovery. Wipe cache and dalvik and reboot your smartphone. It should boot now.
If not, perform a full wipe. (cache, dalvik and data).
Hope this can help.

EDIT6: somehow made it into fastboot , somehow flashed recovery , managed to restore my phone from back up , but sadly enough i cant restore it via google , since when i try to log in it says waiting .. dam this phone . i had galaxy S .. got this huawei just for pokemon go (which is pretty ****ty without gyro) FML right
EDIT7: lost most of my hairs .. some of them were ripped out in some anger explosions .. chewed of some of my nails .. but somehow i made it ! now if i only could unroot and relock bootloader xD think im gonna take a break for now and when my nerves will calm down i may try it again . Rly wanna thank you from all of my heart for help , thanks !! your the best man , thanks again
Sorry, can you normally boot and use your phone now?
Edit: It seems you can boot. Now you have restored your twrp recovery. I don't know why you have problems with google log in, but hey now it boots!

Hi, if you don't know what is fastboot maybe you can approach it the easy way.
Download and install this for the correct drivers : http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html
Download and extract to a folder this : https://mega.nz/#!B4tATA5D!-TseQ9A-TPEQhzNQRXsT_cV2i4T7qYYLadceW0fM8k0
Put your phone in fastboot mode : Turn it off. Connect it to your pc . Long press vol - and power until it boots in fastboot mode (white screen with a green android and other stuff). If you want you can boot in fastboot from TWRP recovery : restart -> bootloader.
Copy your extracted SYSTEM.IMG in the root path of the tool (we can assume its name is system.img).
Now launch the tool and press 000 and enter.
If you have done all right now you can give this : fastboot flash system system.img
Wait about 3 minutes. Perform a cache and dalvik cache wipe. Boot your phone.

Hi,
I am using the standard P9, and getting the Boot Loop also.
I attempted your instructions, and appeared to work - I got the first EMUI initialization screen - and now its gone back to how it was.
Any suggestions?
I think it should work on every phone assuming you are using the right firmware. Do you use the right firmware for the huawei P9 ?? (needless to say it's not the version i posted)).
So if you flashed the right firmware (and i'm pretty sure of this) my advice is to perform a full wipe : Cache, dalvik and data.
If you are still facing the same error consider flashing other frimware parts like boot.img ecc.
I believe so - I am pretty clueless with this stuff.
By firmware, do you mean the stock version? Because I used P9-EVAL09-EVA-B136. Don't suppose you would know the right firmware I require?
I think it's the right version. I am a p9lite user so i don't know specifically the right version of the firmware but i think it's ok. Do you tried a full wipe?

I do yes
So, go in twrp recovery (turn off phone, long press vol up and power for at least 3 seconds). When you are in you will see 'WIPE' press it then do the swipe to Factory Reset. You will lost your installed apps and the relative settings but you will not lost your personal stuff such photo, music documents ecc. Let me know if you perform it and if it works =)
It appears that TWRP no longer appears. I get thr EMUI options to wipe data/factory reset. But once I do this I just get a red exclamation mark.
Does the phone need to be plugged in via USB?

Problem after root attempt

Hello,
I tried to root my P8 Lite, which is something I've already done on a lot of other smartphones. So I first unlocked my bootloader, then I tried to follow a guide to root it. Everything was going smooth, but when I hit enter for the last time into the command line (at this point of the process, it just installed superSU) my phone rebootd and stucked on the huawei logo. After 20mn I decided it was enough, I unplugged it and hard rebooted it, but still stuck on huawei logo.
Since this, I wasn't able to reboot my phone, nor enter the fastboot/rescue mode. Now I tried on more time to enter the fastboot, and I don't know why but after a few time it showd up !
So basically my phone is now on fastboot mode, unlocked, and I come here to seek answers about the method to flash it and start again with a fresh android. I don't even know where to find the correct rom to flash, nor how to flash, if for instance I should use adb, etc.
If someone here is able to help me, that would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I manually updated the phone to android 6 and EMUI 4.
Thank you a lot for enlightments.
Hello! Since you are in fastboot mode you can easily fix the issue. Just download a stock rom you wanna flash and use (you can try the new B588) and with the Huawei Update Extractor, extract the boot.img, recovery.img, cust.img, system.img from the UPDATE.APP file. Then flash these in the order i wrote them (using the fastboot command for example:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
, same thing for all of these just change the file names). That is how i fixed my last 2-3 bootloops. I would suggest looking here first though: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/mega-thread-root-unbricking-updating-t3400994 on Chapter 4. Hope this helps and good luck
Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
Problem is now, my phone ran out of bttery so not in fastboot mode anymore and I just can't figure out how to go back in fastboot anymore.
I tried to power on the phone while pressing vol up, wait for the huawei logo and wait for ten more seconds, nothing except a black screen. I tried vol down, both vol up and down, still nothing. Thing is, yesterday I don't even know how I managed to enter fastboot, I just tried, didn't work, so I put my phone on the bed, and ten minuts later I realized it was on fastboot mode. Informatics huh.
If you have any idea on how to go back in fastboot mode, I tried using adb, but it needs the phone to reach systm to be able to reboot.
By the way you talked about a specific rom, where can I find this one ?
Thank you again for your time.
EDIT : Ok I managed to reach fastboot, what I did was to plug it on my laptop, powered off, then pressed vol down and power on, and it worked. Informatics has its reasons...
Still interested into the rom ou talked. I'll try to find it on my own though. But if you got a link, I would be happy to download it.
EDIT2 : Ok I tried to flash, everything went good, but my huawei is still in its bootloop. I extracted the B588 rom, but there was way more than 4 img files. I still flashed only the four you and the link you gave me told me, but maybe I need to flash more than these 4 ?
Try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/mega-thread-root-unbricking-updating-t3400994 <-- follow the " Bootloop/Softbrick" method if you cannot install the latest firmware directly. You may need to flash original recovery first too. Any recovery version will do they are all the same, find the how too under the "install TWRP" section, but basically it goes "enter fastboot, type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" while you have recovery.img in the same directory.
[edit]
Also, if you are on MM you should not be using a batch file to root. Once you have TWRP installed, you need to flash 2 zips via TWRP. They can also be found in the mega thread.

Single stable SuperSu v2.76 also works for builds less than b580.. For builds greater than that, use 2 zips method
Well, it obviously didn't

[SOLUTION] How to get out of the soft bricks and bootloops

If your device has unlocked boot loader and for some reason you just tried to flash something and it went wrong then there is no problem guys. The simplest solution if you are stuck on boot is that press vol down and power key for 3 minutes. It will work and will reboot. No before rebooting into the phone just go to the recovery by pressing the vol up key on boot process. This will load you in eRecovery of huawei. From there you can power off the phone. Now take out the sd card and put the desired rom in it. If you want stock android then you need to put UPDATE.APP in the dload folder in sd card and then go to eRecovery again. If you have a twrp recovery then you can go to stock as well and switch to a custom rom as well. Just place custom rom zip file and gapps zip file and flash it through twrp recovery.
For custom roms and recover visit :

Thank you if I ever need it. Maybe someone that has needed to use this fix will confirm that it works.

Well, it doesn't work for me... I held those buttons for 5 minutes, and all my phone did was to reboot about every15 seconds to the "Your device is booting now..."
I also tried with other button combos without any luck.

I made a post just before you did over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...i-p9-lite-stuck-bootloop-enter-t3600868/pages
After that post I managed to get into fastboot mode, when connected to my computer using usb, however my frp is locked and fastboot unlocked, so I am stuck there at the moment.

Download the SRK Tool for huawei p9 lite and unlock bootloader ( if required ). Then flash twrp recovery and then root the device. You might have made a mistake between any one of the processes. Also check if the OEM is unlocked in device developer options

As written in the other thread, the phone boot loops, and I only have access to fastboot. It refuses to go into recovery and can not boot normally.
I can't flash TWRP as frp is locked.
I tried messing around with Miracle Loader 2.27A, but it can't find my phone (maybe I am doing something wrong).

Axon 7 (A2017G) Brick.

I had stock android 7, used the toolkit, "Unlocked" the bootloader, after that there was a part with erasing all data to factory due to an error, something along the lines there was a pin or password detected, and after I pressed reset the screen went black, and when it tries to boot it shows ZTE for a second and then it vibrates and shuts off instantly. So I can get it in to edl mode and I see the Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 in my devices, but I can't find any thread to fix this. Tried flashing stock firmwares via MiFlash, no luck. And the thing is, most roms I download give me a batch of files in a zip, if I put them in a folder and try to flash I get this - Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Help asap, because I am having a horrible time using my partially destroyed S6 Edge Plus. If I spelled smth wrong sorry, Russian here.
This is what I had - My device is stuck on an 'Enter your password to start Android' screen.
Unfortunately this requires a factory reset.
1) Boot your device into recovery mode by pressing and holding the power and volume up buttons for 10-15 seconds.
2) Stock Recovery: Use the volume down key to go down to 'Wipe data/factory reset' and press power to select. Press the volume down key again to go down to 'Yes' and press power to select.
TWRP Recovery: Tap "Wipe" < Tap "Advanced Wipe" < Check the box next to "data" < Tap "Repair or change file system" < Tap "EXT4" < Swipe to confirm.
3) Reboot your device.

I had a similar problem on my 2017U model after flashing a .zip that was supposed to remove the "bootloader is unlocked" screen that shows up after you unlock the bootloader. Long story short, the .zip wasn't meant for U models. Only G. So my phone was in a worse situation than yours and would not power on. You'll need to download an EDL recovery firmware .zip for your phone and place it within the toolkits folders manually and then go through the steps of the toolkit which I'll try to help you do.
First, download the full stock B09 (G) firmware from here. You can OTA update to the latest firmware after a successful flash. It's okay to flash an older firmware in this situation.
Once done, navigate to C:\Axon7Development\Axon7Toolkit\MiFlash\B09\ (copy/move the full .zip of the B09 firmware you downloaded in the first step into this folder) If the B09 folder doesn't exist under \MiFlash, create it manually.
Run the toolkit again from the start and type 11 "RESTORE TO STOCK/RECOVER FROM HARDBRICK (EDL)" and hit enter. On the next screen type in the number that will restore B09. It should tell you how to put the phone in EDL mode and automatically open MiFlash. Make sure to follow the steps and paste the directory path of the firmware in the top bar in MiFlash. After you pasted it his Flash and it should successfully flash the firmware. If it gives you an error or times out, unplug the phone and try a different USB port or USB cable. It's obviously recommended you use the one that came with the phone. My first attempt at MiFlash timed out and didn't flash anything. I tried a different USB port and then it flashed.
After it flashes the firmware, leave the phone plugged in and hold down the power button for about 10 seconds until it restarts out of EDL. From there you should have a working phone again with some exceptions. It'll be on an older firmware so I would recommend booting into stock recovery and factory resetting data and wiping your cache. Then restart the phone and do an OTA update to the latest firmware. After you reach the latest firmware you can then use the toolkit for whatever you need.
Sidenote, your English is very good considering you're Russian. No need to apologize because your post had no spelling errors. :highfive:

I haven't read what the other guy said, but basically you have to use miflash. just use my DFU unbrick guide but from the point where you short the testpad to enter EDL. But instead of opening the phone just put it in edl via adb reboot edl or holding vol+ - and inserting the cable

Did you create the B09 folder in the MiFlash directory? I also had errors downloading firmwares through the toolkit, which is why I had to do it manually and move the firmware into the proper directory for the toolkit.

After I unlocked the bootloader via the toolkit by bkores, I get a message "To start android enter your password" even though it was a stock system with no password. Like I got every possible error and solved it and now this, just why?

that's totally normal. Your internal storage is encrypted, you have to go into TWRP and format data (not wipe, format). Anyways by unlocking you lose all of your data so it's not like you lose anything
If it doesn't work, then you'll have to change the data partition's filesystem because it may be in F2FS. Change it back to ext4 if that happens

I don't have TWRP, firs I Unlocked the bootloader, now I try to flash TWRP and get error due to the force encryption on Nougat, and I can't find a way to disable it, also now when I try to boot to stock recovery the led flashes for a milisecond and powers off.

Nokia 5 unable to install Recovery

So I gave my IMEI, serial number and $5 to someone on the internet, and in return I got an email attachment to flash to my phone. So I did, and it unlocked the bootloader. Strangely enough, now I'm getting a stupid yellow message that my device is unlocked and can't be trusted, and it's a bit of a roundabout way to get into bootloader or recovery. One ONLY works with buttons, the other ONLY with adb.
Ok, never mind, so I tried installing both the 3.1.1. and 3.2.1 of TWRP custom recovery, but I am unable to boot into it to make it stick. On top of that, my phone now says "encrypted"? WTF?
Clearly this latest incarnation of Nokia is a bunch of asswipes, offering us Sophie's choice instead of just unlocking the damn things from the start, so there's no point in asking them for help, but I'd expect members here would be able to help?
Any ideas how to proceed? Is there a factory ROM somewhere? This is 7.1.2. by the way, I'm not interested in updating. Come to think of it, I hate this so-called "progress" with convoluted "security" and whatnot. Just give me the damn phone and go away, Google+Nokia. Stick your "features" up ya clacker.
1. Okk first you jeed to go this link and download official recovery for nokia 5 running android 8.1 oreo
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Cl1...w?usp=drivesdk
2. Rename it to twrp and give the command to flash the recovery.
3. After give command fastboot flash recovery twrp.img. Give the command fastboot boot twrp.img
And boooom you enter in official twrp

Err... no, not quite.
1. Your link is (was) dead, but in any case I'd be wary of installing something stashed in a private Google drive folder... Thanks, but no thanks.
2. I have several versions of TWRP, that's not a problem.
3. I know the correct commands (yours are not), that's not a problem.
And boom - no, you don't end up in TWRP. You end up in system, because it overwrites the TWRP automatically UNLESS you reboot to it immediately after flashing, and THIS is the problem.
It turns out that Nokia needs to be plugged into CHARGER, not the PC, then holding Vol+ and Power button combination will do it. It took me more than a dozen tries, but it worked in the end.
Hi, I had the same problem. I've unlocked bootloader and I successfully installed TWRP and I can go to recovery but the problem is I can't boot the system as it stucks on download mode. Can you help?
Press volume up+volume down+power button at the same time for 7-8 second.
