870DS firmware confusion. New to LG. - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hi,
Love my 870DS on V10C TWN but dismayed at lack of a OTA to bring it in line with other regions.
I have read about CIS firmware that can be (manually?) Flashed... But what's the difference between CIS and 'non CIS' firmware? Is it 'safe' to upgrade this way? Any loss of functionality?
I installed LG Bridge on my Mac FYI. Is this the tool to use to flash firmware?
Thanks.

From what I've noticed, CIS version is lighter compared to other versions.

I've installed cis firmware last night..u have 2 apps from Russia ...in rest some changes ..faceprint unlock,4g icon is on top on of the signal bar..but I can manage to get 4g+..even b3 and b20 for Vodafone Romania are suported.

Thanks everyone,
So will this CIS version get it's own OTAs or does it require constant re-flashing to newer versions?

Constant re-flashing because it is not the original firmware that your phone came with.

But how would the phone know this when it has been reflashed? Does it have some sort of built-in counter or hardcoded region assigned to it?

The phone has an IMEI, and the IMEI has been assigned a region.

Taiwan H815 8/31 ROOTED system image

(V10c, fixes stagefright) This is for the taiwan H815, so probably if you bought it from ebay (tropical mobile, never msrp)
1. Flash 10C KDZ first
2. flash root w/ this image

Mr. Ixrs, thank U!
I'm downloading~
Do U know how to install twrp recovery in this rom?
I've tried use play store, but it doesn't work...
Why is it necessary to flash the 10c KDz first?
Im on the H815 10f rooted system image for all H815 variants posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/h815-10f-rooted-img-t3184363
I flashed that 10f over the SEA 10b rooted image and all is fine. However I lost exfat.
I'm hoping, that this TWN10c version is essentially the Asian version of the H815 10f and, that I can flash this version over the H815 10f to regain exfat support.
Still...Im not quite sure why its necessary to first flash the 10c KDZ

Most people don't actually have to, but for some reason I was getting boot up errors until I did. This is the same version as 10F, you get the stagefright fixes (and exfat too!) as well as the slow mo camera, and all the touch improvements.

You're mixing systems up. Probably not a big deal, but it's not keeping everything the same. The 10F line of images if not for the Asian 815 devices. I would advise you update to 10C official update (from OP) then root using OP files.
10F and 10C are at the same level as far as Android is concerned. The difference in versions is carrier updates etc.

I think the SEA version is for the Singapore version.
See the "Buyer" column in this link
http://devtester.ro/projects/lg-firmwares/country.php?country=Singapore
Based on the link above from devtester, there doesn't seem to be any 10C for the SEA version, nor any 'official' Live Date just yet
As compared to the Taiwan version where the live date and 10C firmware already available for download here:
http://devtester.ro/projects/lg-firmwares/country.php?country=Taiwan
Is this flashed in the same way as in the Low Effort Root (with the same seek and count as in the Int'l 815 dd command) or in some other way? (I'm already rooted by that method.)

H870ds taiwan updates?

Hi,
I cant find any news on the web if LG stopped update support for the h870ds from Taiwan or in general China? Only news i found they left china smartphone market.
At devtester there where only a few models included like V30 in taiwan with a security update this year.

I maybe want to flash CIS or INDIA on my G6 dual sim. Or any other advice of what rom is best for west-europe?
Bump
I second this question. I know there are quite a few threads about cross-flashing and similar stuff, but there are some things that are still not clear to me, even after reading these threads, so I decided to use this already existing thread to join in and ask more or less the same:
- is it safe to cross-flash regions? In my case I have TWN and thought about flashing India.
- Which region is most supported by LG? Looking at the firmware update history I would say India, can anyone confirm?
- Did anyone from Europe (in my case Germany) cross-flash and did any problems occur afterwards?
- will I still get OTAs after changing region if I'm in fact in another region?
Thanks for your help guys!
Cheers
I flashed India over SEA without data loss and everything is functioning normally. I used UPPERCUT for LGUP.

I run the india SEA version over my TWN rom without problems .
I used lg back up first and afterwards i needed to restore because it will whipe all after flashing.
You can update with any 870ds region rom over a other 870 DS version. If you want to update you will have to do manual everytime with lg up. Its shows h87010v-global-com instead.

I can answer this one very easily. HD870DS is the variant which receives quite frequent (ignoring South Korean ones). I have an Indian variant and the security updates are quite frequent. In terms of security updates, LG has been doing a decent job here in India
I bought a TWN version and have manually flashed over to an Australian version, everything seems fine. The only thing I cannot confirm is if I will still receive any OTA updates or infact any via LG Bridge, as, surprisingly, no more updates have actually been released since I manually flashed.

@Sathya241288 the procedure is pretty straightforward.
1) Download LGUP, Uppercut and H870DS kdz file that you want.
2) Connect phone to PC, double click Uppercut.exe (be vary, your antivirus may flag it as unsafe).
3) Choose Upgrade and choose location of the firmware file.
4) Start the flash.
@Don1003 provided you with everything you need.

I'm in Australia and I also have a Taiwanese H870DS.
Like others here, I've been disappointed by the lack of updates. I'm waiting to see if we get an Oreo update, if not I'll flash it as instructed in this thread.
G6 is not alone. The taiwan v30 last update was januari,it just got a update patch in april.

I've just got an update to Oreo to SEA version, which was on Oct 2017 security patch. Just run LG Bridge and check for Updates!
Now version is V20a-SEA-XX
I recommend all TWN owners to follow the guide and discussion in this thread, so no need to continue here.

Phone not updated since March security patch

My F5321 from Malaysia isn't receiving any of the new updates. Last one was 34.4.A.2.32.
Could anyone explain why?
You can check xpericheck.com if there's a newer version, but there's a good chance there isn't one. I'm stuck on 34.4.A.2.50 on the Central Europe version for example, the newest one is .85

Customised MY isn't even listed. :/
What now? Unlocking bootloader if you want latest security patches?
Is there another firmware variant that would be suitable for your location? There may be less difference between the variants than you might expect.

According to xpericheck, singapore region firmware is also stuck in March. I guess both MY and SG are using the sme FW. I think you cn flsh other region FW without unlocking Bootloader.
Is there a way to flash security updates only, without upgrading to oreo?

If you want to retain the fingerprint sensor operation, don't flash to US. People here have in the past recommended either DE or UK, as they tend to be updated promptly. No unlocking of bootloader needed.
Okay guys. I'm ready to flash a new firmware, probably Customised UK. Is the guide on xperiablog up to date and accurate? Also, there is a flashtool by Androxyde on flashtool dot net, but there is also a flashtool on Sony Developer World. Which one should I use?
There is only one xperifirm so that's unambiguous, at least.
Edit: also, it doesn't affect user data or the OS in general, does it?
I can only speak from personal experience with the Androxyde flashtool. I've never tried (nor even known about) the Sony flash tool. In my experience, if you don't make any changes to the default settings, the existing user data is carried over into the newly installed firmware. I'm assuming here that you're flashing from one variant of Android 8.0 to another, not from Android 7 to 8, etc.
BTW, I would always advise backing up your data first, of course. If, for some reason, you are dissatisfied with the result, you can normally get a factory installation of your currently-installed firmware by using software restore from SONY (as part of Xperia Companion).
@pseudonym58 Thanks. Is the guide on Xperia blog the one to follow or is there a better one out there?
I don't recall which guide I used. It basically runs like this:
Run Xperiafirm from within flashtool; it will refresh available software. Choose particular phone model and download desired firmware. Back in flashtool proper, connect phone in flash mode. Select downloaded firmware, which is unpacked and prepared for flashing. As I mentioned above, you should not need to make any configuration changes to the default. Flashing can now begin (it might seem to pause temporarily from time to time but don't cancel process).
Don't worry about warnings of missing elements; I have never had a flashing procedure fail as a result of a claimed missing component.
This is just a general procedure; perhaps someone else can recommend the best full tutorial.
Ok so CE1 got the newest (.107) update right now so it can probably be used too.

Update by OTA locked

Hey guys. I live in Brazil and have one H870, but it was from a network operator and the updates are locked by the IMEI by this operator. So, I flashed the v20b on it, and it works, but it is unable to find updates by OTA. There is any workaround to bypass this block?
Not sure if I understand correctly. But if I u flashed v20b your phone won't find any additional OTAs because 20b is the most recent firmware.

Yeah, I don't think that happens with someone else outside Brazil. Here, when you get a H870 from a network operator, they put their own customized ROM, that is really slow and consumes a lot of battery. But when you try to flash other ROMs, you don't get any OTA update. Everyone who asked about it got the same answer, they locked the update with the IMEI, and the only way to get OTA update is using the stock operator ROM.

V20b for H870 is the last update for this variant, so you wont find any OTA right now and maybe never more this year.
We hope Android 9 came to this phone but most probably later next year so.
Even tho you cant find OTA you can connect to LG Bridge to check that, but as someone and i already told, v20b is the last one until now.
