In case anybody was wondering, I've tried the Chevron WP7 tool on the Venue Pro and it works just fine. I've sideloaded the Samsung "Now" app and TA Maps (a.k.a. the Google Maps proof-of-concept) and have run them with success. All of the platform-specific apps I've tried loading will not even start: HTC Home, Samsung Network settings, homescreen WiFi toggle, etc.
...if anybody else finds any sideload apps that work on the Venue Pro, please post.
OK, I have been thinking about developer unlocking the phone, but am not a 100% sold. The two main issue I am unsure of:
1) Does MS still have the ability to turn our DVPs into bricks via an update?
2) Is there a way to reverse the developer unlocking process so that we can go back to being "in compliance?"
Thanks for any input!

as far as i know even if you developer unlock the dvp once you sync it with zune it relocks it this issue has only been corrected on htc phones as far as i know
also judging by ms response to chevronwp7 an update wouldnt brick your phone
but would most definately relock it
chevronwp7 works. i can confirm as well. i already have some xbox live games up and going.
i've been revoked once by but i unlocked it. its simple.
There are good and the bad. Good: you can side load apps. Bad: its a hassel to unlock it again everytime.
- Registry hacks and apps have been developed for the HD2 to be spoofed as an HD7 thats why they dont lock back up. However, these registry hack programs have been written only for HTC devices and thus, so far, i cant find one that can work on the Dell Venue pro.
if anyone finds a way to edit registry for Dell device, let me know.
Can anyone confirm that the tethering method posted on pocketnow.com is working? It is in the update for the HTC tethering post.
Do you know how to sideload apps without having a developer account? I've got the phone unlocked, and enabled tethering...but I'm dying to get the flashlight app on here.
I have been deploying the XAP files through the developer software but I believe there is a thread discussing how to methods in the WP7 general development section. I will try to find it and post the link to it.
That would be great. The newest developer software requires that you have a developer account. Like I said, I managed to unlock but now I'm stuck because of the new limitation.
While using chevron I get error that cant communicate with the phone.
Tho the phone is connected via usb and is viewable in zune.

Make sure all anti-viruis and firewall is turned off too.
Install windows sdk, then it should work and have zune in the background up and still running not minimize.
Go on the phone "Settings/About/Reset Phone/" confirm 2 times and will restart by itself now try again. It should work, works for me many times.
Just be aware you lose everything on the card make a backup first.
Okay I finally got mine. Problem: device auto locked itself or screen went of and caused device to lock itself again.
here is simple procedure.
1. Plugin your phone and unlock it, let it stay on main screen.
2. Run Chevron and quickly unlock the device, if failed, try again and it should unlock 2nd time if 1st didnt work. Once unlocked close Chevron
3. Now touch or move screen so it doesnt go to sleep.
4. Install xap that removes auto-lock. You have to find one or make one yourself.
Note: Make sure time between unlocking and installing xap is as short as possible.
Guys, this is the development forum NOT the Q&A.
Be sure to shut down skype, msn and any other messenger...
@theAtheist, you can stop playing admin now, you're posting replies to anyone who posts in this section of the forum. Leave it to mods and admins, as you're not one...

I'm not playing anything, If I want to post saying this is the wrong section, ill do it.
If you read the stickies you will notice it says to point out and report every wrong placed thread. I point it out to the OP and I also report it to team.
And before you say it no im not trying to be a mod, I own multiple sites of my own and have no desire to be a mod here, Im simply a concerned user of forum and dont like to see it made unorgnised, simply because poster didnt take 2 seconds to look at forum descriptions.
thread has been moved now so end of.

Yea, didn't bother writing it lol.
Also it's a good idea to disable data usage and wifi while unlocking, unlike me...
Today I was going to install an XAP. I went to go install in and it said my phone was locked. So I figured Id just have to run ChevronWP7 and unlock it. But it wont unlock? Idk why it wouldnt cause I never had a problem with it before. I did some research and im super confused.
I read this, is it because i changed my phone identity that i cant unlock my phone anymore?
The majority of the failures to unlock your phone again is because you used a registry script that changed the HD2 to identify it as an HD7 and may have included registry entries that set PortalUrlProd and PortalUrlInt to 127.0.0.1 or a Null value and somehow your phone became relocked. Once it's set this way, no matter what you do to unlock the phone it won't work because the proper server to query is "developerservices.windowsphone.com" is not defined on the phone. ChevronWP7 works by hijacking and spoofing the address of developerservices.windowsphone.com to be your local computer and then responds appropriately over port HTTPS (443) to the phone.

I never thought it would be a problem, Ive used ChevronWP7 before to unlock my phone, Ive got WP7 all set up and working, along with Xbox Live and the Marketplace. But now im stumped. How do I get my phone to unlock.
I read this thread and i tried to do the methods but i cant because my phone wont unlock! Someone please help. I am so confused.
It wont unlock without editing the reg.....but,
I was having the same trouble yesterday, installed a new SD card and then tried to unlock for hours but wouldn't work,...
So I flashed the XBoxMod ROM, V1.03. The unlock is already done as well as the regedits to keep it unlocked when you sync with Zune. The ID is already changed, so you just flash, activate and fill your accounts out again. Easiest way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944995
I have 1.03 flashed and the lock has suddenly this morning stopped working, have installed the chevron again, just wont unlock again...
without WP7 being unlocked its a pile of crap, why does it suddenly stop being unlocked, if I have to reflash everything, the rubbish thing about WP7 there is now way to back anything up.
Will someone come out with a better unlock than this unstable chevron

what is so good about side loading apps unless you are stealing them? There are not enough things out there to make it worth the effort.
errr HELLO....camera application that actually allows you to focus, ability to install a navigation package with voice feedback, ability to tweak to suit your needs via reg editor, side load homebrew applications that are not allowed on the strict Microsoft zune, change the search to something useful instead of the pathetic bing....etc...etc...
If you want to shout out and accuse me of steeling that's one thing, but make sure you get your facts correct before, just because your on a forum you think you can slag people of and slant them, an apology would be nice, calling me a pirate PAH! I work with application developers and know exactly the damage pirating can cause...

Hey there,
Did you manage to unlock your device? Good to see the guide is stil getting use
Method 2 will keep you unlocked, but to get it unlocked you have to kinda do something in between the two methods, if that makes any sense?
Ill explain. Turn on airplane mode on your device and connect it, making sure Zune is running on ur pc.
Goto your hosts file and edit it like it says in the guide, but just delete the entry. Save the host file.
Now in theroy, you should be able to run chevron to unlock your HD2, although it cant hurt to reinstall the chevron.cert to your device (i keep it in an attachment on my email just in case )
Let me know if you need anything more
And as for the last two posters, quite it please guys, no one is accusing anyone of anything, be happy

What entry am I deleting?
I cant even get ChevronWP7.exe to start now. It instantly says "Uh oh. Sorry, I'm having trouble communicating with the phone." when I try to run it. My phone is plugged in, zune is open, idk what the problem is. At least yesterday the program would open, then say Uh oh. when i tried to unlock it. What should I do?
Bump. I never got this problem solved.
run as admin and alternate between the normal version and the no limit sideloading version.
obviously make sure your device is on, and unlocked at the main tile screen and that zune is running, keep repeating my first point until it works
Dont know if it wil work for you guys but it works for me, alternating between the two versions and admin always being on usually does the trick, sometimes i have to restart my PC and phone, but usually persistance will get it unlocked again.
Hi everyone... I'm having some initial problems with my new Optimus 7 device and maybe someone more experienced can help me...
1) After 1min of inactivity, my screen goes totally black... and I cannot seem to unlock it! The only way I found is by holding the camera button, which opens the camera app and then the phone is unlocked... but for sure there is a simpler method! When I try to unlock right after it has locked I can do it by "scrolling up", but after it has gone totally black, it does not work anymore... Is this a bug or am I just stupid?
2) I would like to know the MAC address of my phone... I saw a tutorial for the Samsung Omnia 7 using the MFG app, but the MFG app in LG is different, and I cannot find the MAC there... is there a way to discover the MAC of this device?
I'm sure many more questions will come, but that's it for now...
Many thanks!
Leo.
Alright, it is totally understandable that you may have these issues. First of all, in order to take the phone out of standby, you need to press the 'Power' button at the top right of the phone. It may seem too small at first, but you'll get used to it. When you press the button, the screen lights up and you can scroll up to unlock. As you may have discovered, the 'Camera' button also unlocks the device, but that is a feature to quickly take a photo, not to unlock it.
Secondly, have you installed the MFG app on the LG Optimus 7 yet? If not, bring up the dialer, and dial ##634#, wait for the app to install, and then it will be available like any other app in your 'right flick' list. You can even pin it up to the Home screen if you choose to. Then, enter 277634#*# for the password to enter the app. The following is the path you must take:
7. Engineer Menu > 2. Device Test > 8. WIFI Test > 1. Net.Info.
At which point you should be greeted by the Net.Info. screen showing you the MAC address and the IP address of your device.
Hope this helps. Ask any other questions you have here as well. Welcome to the WP7 Club.

Thanks very much! I was going crazy with this lock screen problem... I think they should state this flow more clearly somewhere... anyway, thanks also for the MAC info, I got it also!
For now that's everything! But I'm sure there will be more in the future...
OK, one more small thing that is bothering me...
Does IE (on WP7 of course) has any means to store passwords and auto-complete them? I even looked for some apps, but they didn't seem to integrate with IE...

As of now, IE does not support any plug-ins, ActiveX (thank God), or any of the regular functions you are used to on a desktop browser. However, I believe autocomplete will come soon. For now though, you should upgrade to NoDo, and use a password manager (I use 7Pass, and Passkeeper), and copy username/passwords from there to your browser...

OK, I was afraid of that... unfortunately this didn't come with NoDo (I already have it
It will be a long wait until the next update (Mango, if I remember the name correctly)... it would be very nice if MS would release smaller updates like this more often... this way maybe they could even deploy it faster, since the changes would be small and so would the probability of a grand failure (I guess)
Anyway, one more question came up yesterday: is there any way to show my contacts birthdays on the calendar? I had this same problem on my Nokia... I never understood the reason to have a birthday field on the contacts if they didn't show up on the calendar!
Thanks!
Leo.
Hi
I would like to disable my finger print lock and enable pattern lock from midnight till morning. I want this to happen automatically. I use s7 edge. Can someone help me do this.
Divorce?
I don't know if that is possible. The easiest way I know to accomplish what you are asking would be for you to restart your phone as you are going to bed and not unlocking it until you get up in the morning. The first time you unlock the phone it won't allow you to use your fingerprint, only your alternate method.

Yeah. U r right. But its easy to forget. So need an automated thing.
Try Tasker from the app store. There's so much you can customize from using that app. I don't use it nor do I know how to set it up but I have read a lot about it and know a lot of people would recommend that.
Where can I find help for tasker programming..
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
A phone is like a PC. And always been rebooting for optimized performance.
So what did Samsung do, They added in a feature for sceduled restarts.
This my friend sounds like your perfect option, set the phone to reboot every day before you go to sleep. And to unlock the device you are required to input the pin on first boot.
Settings -> Backup and Reset -> Auto Restart
Other than this, i would be suggesting something like Tasker that has alot of control in Automating tasks like MAYBE changing your Login method.
But i would imagine a change of this level requires a user input (Or it would be security concern)
If this is not a good enough option for you, PM me, Tell me what and why you are doing it. And i can come up with a few different solutions.
I have a guess to why you are doing what you are doing, but i aint explaining multiple possibility's on a hunch.
i.e. i have application hide from my App Drawer and require a password to open them.
as an additional safety method. am always passing my phone around and people cannot help but open up your apps like Snapchat. So yes HIDDEN from all.
Tasker will require the Secure Settings plug-in (paid version) and root access to be able to change pattern lock settings.
