It's supposed to be the opposite effect when you plug in, That is weird. I don't seem to have this issue currently, just watched my CPU activity for a bit and it's scaling as it should depending on CPU load.

This has happened to me before on certain ROMs. Phone becomes worse than TouchWiz on my old S4. I've experienced it mainly on WETAs ROM but not always so im not sure what makes it occur

Same thing happens to me! It becomes almost unusable, and the device isn't even warm. It seems like recently my V20 has gotten stuck in this "slow mode", so it is unusable, no matter if it is plugged in or not
This phone has been nothing but trouble since I bought close after launch.

yeah, I'm getting sick of it tbh. I want to try a pixel now. I'm over how laggy this damn phone gets. even opening the camera takes forever compared to my s7 and that was one laggy phone.

So, how many of you have Nexus 4's that get hot with normal use?

See thread title.
While playing simple games (like Flow Free), Facebook, and web browsing, my phone can get really warm/hot. It gets much worse while doing these while it's charging.
I haven't experienced any problems with the heat except when I was installing a lot of things via the Play store, and I got a couple reboots. It's fine otherwise... just hot.
Anyone else experience this?
Mine feels normal during everyday use, during games, about the same, ever so slightly warmer at most. I don't really notice. Any background processes heating your phone up? How is battery life as well?
Your previous phone probably got just as hot. The glass helps transfer the heat better than plastic.
Mine does get warm as well But I think the fact that we feel it might have to do with the size of the device. It's pretty thin.
Mine gets pretty toasty, but that's when I'm using it pretty extensively, like browsing web/forums for an hour straight.

Battery life is pretty good. I'll go through a whole days use with juice to spare.
My phone gets hotter than warm though. Last night playing Flow Free while charging, pressing my finger on the screen eventually gave a little sting.
I know this phone has a lot more CPU power than the hercules (Tmo GS2), but the GS2 with its big glass front never got hot like this, and it would rarely get warm.
I think if your phone is rebooting because of the heat generated from installing apps, you need to RMA it. My phone definitely feels hot after a session of playing a game but it has never rebooted because of it.
Guys, it's a highend phone, what do you expect?
Do you expect a high-end CPU in a desktop PC to run cool? Even in standby an i7 can go up to 30-40°C depending on voltage. And for four cores at 1.512 MHz theres a lot of voltage needed. Don't worry about it unless you get reboots thats not normal.
If the problem continues, send them up here to the north of Sweden. It's gonna be -25°C tomorrow and I could do with some handwarmers
I've had a overheating while playing stupid zombies 2, the phone got hot as ever, but strangely seems to be a ROM related problem, as I had this issue with aokp, while on cm10, playing the same game, the phone get lightly warm, but no more. I was using Franco kernel on both too
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
never more than a little warm with extensive use.
I'm on stock, updated the phone to whatever is the latest version that google pushed and i just started playing Angry brids for about 10 mintues and the phone got noticeably warm. I guess this is the new 'normal' now?
Mine only gets hot when I'm charging it and using it at the same time.

I have a battery widget and at times when on calls ive gotten up to 101F
i want to say my phone runs warmer than my buddy running the same widget
Mine has only been hot after charging on the Panasonic pad. If the glass breaks from it then RMA!

It certainly gets hot, but only slightly more than my Samsung GS1 i9000. Fact of life when running a quad core at these speeds without a fan.
Mine does it too but m not complaining

Mine gets pretty hot. G SAM app reports that the battery has reached 110*f from internet browsing on 3g.
I noticed mine gets pretty warm if I use it for a while just browsing the web.

Mines fine during normal usage. Except when I play graphically demanding games such as need for speed most wanted, after the first race, the screen and the back near the top is hot. Worried about it, I remember the HTC sensation used to get real hot as well, but I've also got an aftermarket battery which also helped with the heat.

does your S4 get hot below the camera?

Hey guys,
i noticed my phone was getting a little hot while i had the navagtion app going.
im using the S4 flip cover and right under the back camera, where it says Samsung - I felt the phone getting hot.
Anyone experience this?
Me too
It's always hot.
I mean it gets hot often.
Of course it gets hot because the CPU is right there.

According to the manual you shouldn't be using the phone at all when charging
Loool really? Its always under charge when i play or the battery drops in 2 hours i disconnect sometime when it become too hot

Using while charging is fine unless it is overheating.
The reason it's recommended not to use the phone while charging is because it reaches high temperatures much faster and so is more likely to overheat causing hardware problems
I personally don't game while charging since this phone (especially i9505) gets really hot really fast

yes i know that heating its very rapid while under charge..expecially now that its so hot during day and cant dissipate...in may when i bought s4 had less problem
i think i must think to buy an extended battery to play more than 2 hours hehehe are they already on stores?
Almost every good phone gets hot now and then. My rooted S4 barely gets hot. I mean i flashed a great rom (omega rom) and flashed an amazing kernel (perseus) and played a bit with cpu voltages and i undervolted my cpu and it barely gets hot , and when it does , it does not get very hot .

OMG, OMG, OMG, finally!!!!:victory:
I thought I was going crazy, but YES, the phone gets unusualy hot just below the camera.
I noticed this right after performing the Apps2SD update, and since then have been freaking out!
I am afraid that constant heating and cooling of this kind can damage the sensitive parts inside,
so I have been limiting my use of the phone in the last few days.
People, this is not normal. Somebody needs to contact Samsung.
There must be a software patch for this...?!
Oh yesss!! Let's make another thread about overheating -___- It's already known that this happens, so you better get used to it.
Me Gusta!

G2 runs HOT!!

Before I swap this thing out, I just wanted to poll you guys and see what the general concencus is.
I'm leaning towards "that's just how it is" after seeing Pocket Lints review that actually called it hot, not warm, but hot.
I have a Note 2 now and doing the same things, replying to forum post emails and browsing around, on WIFI no less, barely gets warm. G2 on the other hand becomes a heating pad...from top to bottom.
---LG G2 via Tapatalk 2---
Mine gets warm gaming and after a good span on the internet.
Haven't even had mine what I'd really even call warm let alone hot.
Cool as a cucumber here. Gets a little warm when doing something really cpu heavy. Nothing I would call "hot "

How I mention already before in other posts. That is a build in feature of the phone. It is an automatic hand warmer. Specially useful in the winter time.

So warm, room temp, cold as a veggie, and a hand warmer...
But more importantly, you all don't really believe one phone is cold and the other is hot, do you?
I'm inclined to believe they're all the same temp, but we all have different tolerance levels for heat.

Mind blowing...
The only time mine gets warm, (never hot) is after some graphic intensive gaming or Qi charging for a prolonged period (Nokia DT-900)
My Droid MAXX HD was a nice hand warmer though.
Well, obviously that's the case. But I really wanted to believe there was a cooler running G2 out there...its such a great phone.

If it's running "hot" and you've already checked to make sure no apps have gone rogue, then I would definitely return it for another. We have 2 G2's bought from different parts of CA and neither have heat issues.
Hot means its eating battery too. Wouldn't be shocked if you got one from the bottom of the speed bin.

Or it could just mean the phone doesn't dissipate heat very well. I've noticed the screen in particular feeling warmer than I'm used to after some casual usage, but nothing that alarms me.
Have heard some people having heat and throttling issues with heavy graphical applications. However, it has seemed to be coming from the T-Mobile variants. I haven't heard a vzw user complain (yet)
Mine is fine (vzw)

Yeah no issues here either. and get an app that reads batt. temp at least if ur gonna compare heat levels. Mine never gets above 100 F. my s4 only got to about 96 on heavy usage. And i just returned a Moto x cause it climbed to the highest ive seen a phone, 117.

I truly believe these issues belong to people who came from older phones and are not well educated on how to efficiently use a smart phone. They load their phones with garbage apps and let it all run in the background while running game or streaming video in the foreground. They have a smoking fast phone that can run it all at once, but they are the first to cry and blame the phone when the battery drains fast or the phone gets hot.
Mine doesn't even get warm, let alone hot.

I have the VZW model. I'd like to know what game or games people are experiencing bad performance with so i can test it. Anyone willing to share?

Replacement gets just as hot. I highly doubt I got 2 bad phones, tho I can't get GPS working on the new one. Went back to the Note 2...barely warm. I am surprised by the amount of you that are saying it doesn't get warm @ all though. I think I'm just more sensitive to heat and have a lower tolerance threshold than most of you. Thanks for all the replies.

Phone Temperature?

My phone has been getting really hot even reaching 110 degrees this only using the phone for FB, Tapatalk or G+ is this normal or could be a faulty unit, and also could be this the reason for a not good battery life?

During extended screen on time, like having Hit-it-rich running for 20 minutes
my Moto X Pure reached the temperature of 113
Still stock
The same screen time and app running on the One Plus One -- Reached the temperature of 101.3
The One Plus One is using CM12.1
These are battery temperatures according to the program.
I'm on my second moto x and it definitely runs much cooler than the first which would get to 112 browsing chrome.
I haven't bothered to check this unit as it is that much better.
The only time I noticed mine get hot was when I was installing all my apps. Since then, it's been remarkably cool, even when streaming Rick & Morty HD from Amazon.
It gets hot with Candy Crush...
mine gets warm from charging or just when i have the screen on ...it's always pretty warm, but as far as problems go that is pretty far down on the list
Mine hit 120 degrees F according to Ampere using Waze on the drive home. I use adaptive brightness set at half. I also have an Incipio Case protecting it....although I feel it's only hurting it temp-wise. I'm so on the verge of rooting tonight, but feel I might want to hold off in case I have to return it for lower than wanted battery life and the announcement of the Huawei 6p.
The only time I've noticed it getting warm since initial setup was while making a nandroid backup. I've not been very demanding of it though.
Phone Temperature!!!
Mine gets to 107 when playing heavy 3D games and at same time downloading with LTE beyond ten minutes. Other than that it is barely warm to warm. 80s and mid 90s. Upper 90s with 3d games.
Mine easily gets above 110 when I'm playing clash for a few min. Seems to avg 100 anytime my screen is on. Thinking I might need to swap for another one.

are you guys talking celcius or F!? i sure hope F lol.
right now installing all my apps and charging on my samsung fast charger, it's at 150 F lol..pretty damn hot. i just cut my sim down to a nano sim but i think it cut some of the sim part off ugh..gonna try it..if not, off to verizon to get a card
mine ran 100+ at all times. Texting, tapatalk, facebook, anything it was always hot. Worst call quality, awful heat and battery I had return label printed after a half a day of use. Worst phone ever
∆ Too bad you got a dud. My Pure is great fwiw.

mines getting pretty warm.. what are you guys using to view temp? the one I used says it can't read temp and only figured it out with an algorithm... so idk if it's even legit. but yeah this phone def gets warmer than my note 4. Random lag is starting to piss me off..

so, it seems that whenever I'm out, my phone is slow as all hell. I'm at the store yesterday, and i pull my phone out of my pocket to take a picture of something for future reference. I hit down volume twice to launch camera... so it takes about 8 seconds just for the screen to pop on, and another 8 or so seconds before I can actually click the shutter to take a shot. so, that's annoying. but then, I wanted to Google search something while I was there, so the phones already awake mind you, so i hit home, open Google, this takes another like 7 seconds, and then going to type in the box takes another 5 for swiftkey to even pop up.
I don't understand. it's like, when I'm not home, my phone gets laggy as hell. when the phones plugged in, it gets laggy as hell. now I'm coming from an s7, aka a lag machine, but this thing is starting to annoy me to the point where I'm ready to throw it.
I've recently even factory reset and started fresh and it still happens. it's as if when you wake the phone, doze is just taking forever to ramp the processor speed back up. it's like it's limited to a low speed so there's tons of lag. when I'm using the phone for a while it's fine, but that experience seriously made me want to whip this phone at the ground.
so now it's like, i don't want samsung bc of lag, i'm starting to not want LG because of lag. who the hell else makes a decent android phone now that's actually fast!?

This is something that comes with using Android unfortunately. There is no solution.

doze sucks. honestly, I get no better battery life now than I did on my note 4 running what, lollipop, and the same size battery. they didn't have doze back then, and it ran better. doze was such a bad programming decision bc it does absolutely nothing for battery, and just makes the phone slow as hell whenever you wake it.

Same thing here. My battery life is so BAD, yesterday not doing anything but standby and checking a few things, 10m 37 sec screen on time, 7+ hours off charge from 100%, it was at 21%. Lags like crazy from time to time. When, it gets like this I pull the battery for about 5-10 minutes and it seems to work fine for awhile. One other thing that has happened, is my data signal sucks, which is probably the cause for the extensive battery drain. I put in new SIM card, no change. I have seen where others are experiencing the same thing. It was a good phone, until about 2 months ago and all this has started, very frustrating. Note 8 can't get here fast enough.
If you guys aren't getting better battery during standby then you guys have a problem like a rogue app or conflict cause standby drain on this phone is nigh non-existent compared to older phones like note 4. Usage when screen is on is pretty much identical to older phones though.
In relation to topic I do get random lag sometimes which does annoy me but my brother gets random lag on his stock unrooted Nexus 6p as well and id be willing to bet that the high and mighty note 8 is going to suffer from random lag as well.
Just depends on how often you are experiencing this lag. It happens pretty rarely for me and usually only when is really hot out.
the other day at my new job the phone drained like crazy just idling in the drawer. like 30 percent from 7am to 1230pm. it was awful. I noticed my signal was super low in gsam during that time though, which sucks. not sure what I'm gonna do about that.

I bought this phone after changing over from Verizon to T-Mobile. My note 4 was really reliable and somewhat compatible with T-Mobile, but it didn't support some of the bands. Anyway, I immediately noticed the lag on this phone when compared to my Note 4.
After messing with several settings and doing a lot of reading online, I decided to try a different launcher and it made a huge difference. I'm currently using Nova Launcher. It takes a while to set it up exactly how you want it. I still found it a little laggy, but instead of the 7 seconds it took to open apps, it would take about 3. I then went into developer options and changed window animation scale, transition animation scale, and animator duration scale from 1x to .5x and apps now open and close almost instantly.

So how do you like the V20 now compared to the Note 4?
Agree even if can be hard to completely abandon your favorite launchers & some live wallpapers it's worth experimenting with other launchers-wallpapers & you could first try turning off those 3 animations in developer options to make it feel snappy or if you like them change them to .5x as suggested by Archangel1183. For laughs you could try all 3 animations to 10x :laugh:before turning them off or down as low as you like.:good:
Any of you all with Sprint. If so I have sinking suspicion their crappy over saturated network is the cause of most of the lag.

Just reread your original post & that does sound like crazy lag, are you saying when you're home (probably on Wi-Fi &/or with better signal?) not plugged in, the lag is dramatically less only or mainly getting that crazy lag when not in that environment?
How often do you reboot & what apps do you typically have running? Did turning off those aforementioned animations make it more snappy?
If you think it's doze you could try http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-3026187/disable-doze-android-marshmallow.html
Have you tried a different battery to see if it makes a difference on your battery drain, anyone recommend one like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR3NHAK ?
Did you buy your V20 online or could you pop in a Verizon store to see if an exchanged replacement makes a difference?
yeah its mainly when I'm out and actually need to use it quickly, that's when it lags the most lol go figure. I'll check out that doze link. the battery itself is fine... usually it doesn't drain like crazy, but my new job is a metal building so it's awful on the signal. gotta airplane mode it! I have a us996 so I never played with any other version before.

I have found on my T-Mobile variant that if I run a AOSP ROM the lag is less noticeable and most of the time is less frequent.
Do you have Facebook and messenger? Uninstall them both and see what happens in a day. Also, are you rooted?
rooted yes, Facebook dear god no.
Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk
Install magisk latest beta and try crossbreader in the downloads of magisk manager. It removed all signs of lag for me.
When I had this problem is was the wi-fi trying constantly to connect to every router in the area. I set smart manager to automatically turn wi-fi off when I leave home and back on when I return and haven't had a problem since.

You might want to double check as I have the T-Mobile variant and stock rom came with Facebook already installed. After disabling that and Lookout, it ran a lot better. Think there is actually a thread on here somewhere about those 2 apps lagging up the device
nah I've deleted Facebook immediately when rooted.

you probably have frozen or disabled some apps that causes the lag. I actaully did a backup first before trying to uninstall or disable that looks bloatware to me. I disabled some LG bloatware apps that causes lag on my phone and camera. I don't know which is which but then I manage to install back my backup and start all over again.
