It's supposed to do that, you can try turning it off by going into WiFi settings, use the bottom menu key to select Advanced, and unchecking the notification. On my Note 3, even though that setting is off, I still get a quick popup showing when it connects.
It should only do it once when it connects to an access point. However if you have it set (also under advanced settings) to turn off WiFi after your phone goes to sleep for a certain period of time, when it wakes it will reconnect, and renotify you.

I forgot to mention it repeats itself over and over after saying connected annoying already told notification I do know how to disable it but that's not the problem it's repetitive even after saying it's connected on all WiFi networks
One possibility is that your connection actually is bouncing. (Continuously disconnecting/reconnecting)
If that were the case then the frequent messages are appropriate, but symptomatic of some other problem such as hardware (flakey antenna connection?) or a strange software stack incompatibility between your handset and WiFi AP.
(The latter is more likely if you observe the problem only on certain WiFi networks; the former if it happens on all of them)
while [ 1 -eq 1 ] ; do
_res=`ifconfig wlan0 | grep -c 'inet addr'`
if [ $_res -gt 0 ] ; then
echo 'wlan0 UP'
else
echo 'wlan0 DOWN'
fi
done

Thank for the info. It happens on any wifi network im debating on removing the os completely and reinstall it. Any more info would be awesome thanks
Completely useless information but just figured I'd share my story. My father just gave back my old Note 3 and said he was having issues with it. WiFi, WiFi Tether, & GPS were all broke and network connection would drop randomly throughout the day. He was on PL1 or whatever the latest firmware update was. I then flashed back to OB6 firmware which corrected ALL the issues. I let the phone download the OF1 or whatever the next firmware update was and it succeeded with everything still working properly. Overnight the phone downloaded the PL1 or whatever the most recent firmware is, which I updated to that morning. PL1 re-broke EVERYTHING on the phone that I spent a day fixing. I then reflashed OB6 and then rooted and unlocked the bootloader and am downloading an Android 6.0 ROM to try right now. LONG STORY SHORT, the most recent Verizon update SUCKS and breaks the functionality of the phone (at least for me).

Try running that script (say in a terminal emulator) I posted in my reply. If you see the wlan0 interface bouncing up and down it suggests a hardware problem (given that you said the symptom is on all WiFi networks).
I suppose it could be software... but until you start digging for more information (e.g. dmesg output or logcat output) or trying some experiments, it's all guesswork at this point.

The OP failed to report what ROM, modem, or bootloader he is using so it's impossible to determine if were talking apples vs. oranges here.
That said, I am using the PL1 modem (most recent), the AryaMod ROM, and the NC4 bootloader and do not experience the mentioned symptoms. Both WiFi & GPS seem to behave correctly. That would seem to exonerate at least the baseband/modem firmware, but who knows.

Hello,
If you don't want the boring details of how I discovered the problem feel free to skip the next couple of paragraphs and go straight to the technical details.
I got my first Android phone (Motorola Defy) a couple of weeks ago and at first I was only using it with wifi because my data plan wasn't activated yet. While playing with it a little I realised that I saw a lot less ads than my boyfriend on his 6 month old Defy. I thougt it was weird but, well, seeing less ads is not a big problem.
Then when I got my data plan I saw that when I wasn't home I saw a lot more ads, so I began to suspect it had to do with how my phone was connected to the internet : wifi or 3G.
Next I wanted to try out Astrid and when I tried to log in using my Google account it failed repeatedly. Until I disabled wifi and it logged in fine using 3G.
Then I installed RTÉ DocOnOne to listen to documentaries while falling asleep. When wifi is enabled, it cannot start up because it can't connect (network timeout). Over 3G, no problem.
At first I thought it was my router blocking ports or something but it happens with different wifi APs and more importantly my boyfriend's phone, connected to the same access point, loads everything without a problem.
Let's sum up:
Some apps can't access the network using wifi but work fine when using 3G.
It happens regardless of the wifi AP (tried 4 different ones with different routers) and another phone using the same app connected to the same wifi AP can access the network just fine.
If I initiate the connection using 3G then switch to wifi (typically I launch the app with 3G, switch wifi on without closing the app), it still works after that (RTE DocOnOne has no pb streaming the documentaries once it has launched)
My phone is a Motorola Defy, French retail ROM, not rooted, no motoblur account (skipped the configuration), Froyo 2.2.2 (already on the phone when I got it), system version (if that means anything to you) Version.34.164.3.MB525.Retail.en.FR, kernel 2.6.32.9-g050ccf2, build 3.4.2-164
I can't give as much details about my boyfriend's phone (that doesn't have the problem) because he's not here right now but I can tell you that it is a Motorola Defy too, French retail (I think) ROM, Froyo updated from preinstalled Eclair (using the official Motorola update), not rooted, with a motoblur account
I have no idea if that's relevant or not, but my phone has the "google maps 5.7.0 crashes on Defy" issue (18446 in the android issue tracker) and my boyfriend's phone hasn't.
Has anyone encountered this issue before ? I couldn't find anything on this forum or with a google search.
Is there any tool I can use to try and find the cause of the problem ?
Thank you for reading all this, sorry if my message was long but I wanted to give as much detail as possible to help the nice people who may find what is wrong with my phone
I didn't read all..
but if your phone don't have problems then check this:
1. go to settings
2. Select "Location & security settings"
3. enable this "Use wireless networks" Location determined by WiFi and/or mobile networks
4. test does it work...
Hello manumanfred,
I did what you suggested (actually it was already checked) and the problem is still there (tried unchecking it too).
I am not sure why you suggested it, was that related to some phones having wifi problems in some countries ? I read a thread about that when I was researching my problem but it is different. In my case, wifi works most of the time, but some requests always time out.
Thanks for trying
Anyone else has an idea of something I could try ?

Hello, did you solve the issue?
Hi all,
This is my issue:
I'm 2 hours connected to a wifi network, I leave home or work and my nexus 4 does reconnecting with mobile data.
I have read many posts about this, on any roms, but none gives a clear solution.
I had CM12 and Chroma. The same error. I'm back to Stock Rom [5.1] from Google Factory image [clean] and issue persists.
Can you help me please?

Hmmmm. I think it was with the 4-10 version that I had the issue, and it may have been resolved with the 4-14 version. I just installed the 4-17 version, but haven't checked if the issue returned. I would try upgrading Chroma, if that is what you are still running.

I'm going to reinstall all apps in my n4 for now with stock ROM. I installed all updates from 4.2.2 image factory with OTA's up to 5.1, to night I still with wifi connection, if tomorrow the issue persists, I will install chroma again.
I got this problem too. I was running chroma, Cm12 and now euphoria and problem is still here. Full wipe doesn't work. In addition to the problems with reconnection I have also huge problem with msm_hsic_host wakelock and I think both problems are related to each other. I'll try different kernels, maybe it will work.

I installed stock kernel, and franco kernel. Same result.
My wife has Installed OTA yesterday and remains in wifi all night, today all works fine in her Nexus 4. In my Nexus 4 don't work.
Differences:
Wife: N4 8GB with simyo carrier
Me: N4 16GB with tuenti carrier
Any Ideas?
It seems that the problem occurs only when when you leave the WiFi area, and the phone loses its range. Its not switching connection. When you are connected to wifi and you try to turn it off manually (quick settings etc), it will switch to mobile data connection without problems.

is not it, when I spend three hours on wifi, manual transmission does not work. I put the SIM of another carrier works. Is an error with this SIM and this version of Android.
Hi gruncho,
I have exactly the same problem, also with a Nexus 4 from day 1 after installing 5.1. Mine has been installed OTA, having previously 5.0.1. My carrier is pepephone (now using Movistar) which I think is the same as tuenti, the one you have.
I reconnect without problems by changing between 2G / 3G or by selecting Airplane Mode On / Off.
If anyone knows a less manual solution or something I could try please tell.
Thanks a lot
Same issue here on stock 5.1, only reboot helps. Airplane mode, switching radio off, switching cellular data off and on doesn't help.
Can anyone provide some information how to fix this? Would be very grateful.
I flashed chroma rom 4-21. It is based on Android 5.1.1. The issue is solved on this version. I will use this rom until stock 5.1.1 launch.

If you have the phone rooted, you can install Trigger and create a task that activate airplane mode and deactivate that in a few seconds when you leave any wifi network. I tried this, but in my case, with an android wear device, the watch disconnects every time I leave my home or job wifi.
Hi,
Keeping my fingers crossed for the problem to be solved for everyone in 5.1.1
I thought about creating a task in Tasker that activated airplane mode and deactivated it in a few seconds later after leaving a wifi, but my experience with Tasker is almost null.
I found an application which seems to be working for me. Its name is WifiFixerFree and what it does is trigger a mobile connection for a few seconds, while still connected to wifi.
You can configure the connection interval. I have it set for every 15 minutes and it doesn't seen to drain a lot of battery. By default it shows a lot of notifications, but you can disable all them in one of the configuration screens.
Cannot yet post external links, but the application is in Google Play so it is easy to find from that name.
I installed the application yesterday and the problem has not repeated itself.

When you enter the app, check "Use auto reconnect" and set a trigger interval of N minutes (I wrote 15).
Press the button "Configure notifications" and uncheck the first option: "Show events in notification bar"
I just did that and since then (yesterday afternoon) I have had no more problems of losing the mobile data connection. During the last weekend and on Friday I had those problems every time I left home / work because the phone lost the wifi and so I lost the mobile data.

Same issue here, but I came from a Nexus 4 5.0.1 with LTE enabled.
The problem ocurrs when changing to data after too many hours in Wi-Fi connection (turning Wi-Fi off or leaving the Wi-Fi area).
I installed OTA Android 5.1, then the problem started.
I tried to install stock Android 5.1 factory image (with full wipe), but the problem still persist.
I executed the nexus-4-lte-enabler-v2.12-2.13-UNINSTALLER.zip thinking it's a related issue, but the problem still persists.
Waiting for Android 5.1.1...
I have Pepephone (Movistar) and I'm still using the manual workaround of turning airplane mode on/off or switching some data network setting to regain data connection.
Can anyone provide some information how to fix this?
Thanks a lot.

hi guys
i bought "new" (from chinese online market site) motherboard to my i9505, as the old one looses sim card, camera doesn't work, etc. (probably power ic issuse, after reflow of power ic phone works normaly for a 2-3 weeks and the story goes on again).
Yesterday new mobo arrived, everything is fine but i have a problem with wifi - it turns on really long, i mean it takes about a minute to turn on wifi, it scans network fast and without problems but when i connect to any network (with or without password protection) and then turn off wifi or phone, after turning on phone does not remember wifi network and passwords. Each time i turn on wifi i have to put wifi password again until i turn off phone or wifi.
I've tried wiping cache/data. Mobo arrived with android 4.4.2 onboard and phone asked me to update to 5.0.1 OTA. Update didn't helped sloving problem, i also tried flashing by ODIN with no results of sloving this problem.
Mobo is under warranty but it took 3 weeks to arrive, now another 3 weeks sending it back and replacing to another "new" one, and the problem seems software one, not hardware
looks like problem is sloved by this fix:

Thanks, this worked for me. Earlier wifi was switching on but with some delay and also the ssid was recognised but the password had to be provided everytime. This fixed both the issues, wifi turning on almost instantly and no need to provide password everytime for a known ssid.

For Android5.0 How is work to preserve the Wi -Fi networks
Same line is there in build.prop on 5.0.1.
Mine have it on true and it remembers WiFi pass codes so it might be different bug but you can always try. Just remember to make backup copy before editing anything

i have no idea why true line causes that on some phones, but currently installed mobo came with factory 4.4.2, knox 0x0 and wifi didn't work. Upgraded it to 5.0.1 and thwn downgraded back to 4.4.2, set to false and now everything is working perfect
Hi,
I just received the Oreo update for my S8 and everything seemed fine from the start. It didnt take long though when
I noticed that the WiFi was acting weird. Even though I had great connection to my modem, my WiFi performance
was extremely poor. The two arrows beside the WiFi logo in the status bar only showed upload and no download when I
tried to open a website. I tried forgeting the network but it only seemed to work momentarily. So I rebooted my modem and
hoped that it would solve the problem. Rebooting the modem only worked momentarily too. I will be checking later if this issue
continues with other WiFi networks.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Same problem with My S8 after Oreo. Occasionally the !-mark next to wifi-symbol and the connecton is lost. By restarting the wifi-router or renewing the wifi connection from the phone fixes this for some time, until it happens again.
This fixed it for me
Mine was doing the same but noticed I could stay connected to a older router I use as an extender so changed my wifi security on my main router from wpa2-aes to the older wpa and it's been fine ever since stays connected on 2.4 and 5 now
Is there a fix for this yet? I just downloaded the newest update they rolled out today, 4/3/2018 and I still cannot send email if I am connected to my wifi. It tells me "couldn't send" and it sits there until I turn off my wifi and use my data. This is ridiculous. My wifi connection is fine. I should not have to turn off wifi every time I want to send an email. So frustrated. Why roll out another update so quickly if not to fix the issues the March update caused????
I am also a an S8 user and noticed my wifi dropping connections throughout the day and reconnecting. This has occurred ever since Oreo update. I have tried all the possible fixes and none of them seem to work. I have sent my phone to Samsung for a repair and they have useless approved centres that lie about fixing the phone. I have sent it back. Lets see what happens. Worst case scenario I will have to install Nougat as it was working fine on this version.
Same here ! =(
Same problem
Sporadic exclamation mark on the WiFi icon
and poor performance .
Opened another thread on too many open ports.
Used sockstat and too many ports are listening.
Me too
(ROM France : XEF)
Did you guys notice this after the Oreo update or on Nougat as well?
I’m having this problem since the Oreo update too. I have to turn the WiFi off and on several times a day to fix it. When attempting to use WiFi, no pages etc will load and then eventually a ! Symbol appears next to the WiFi icon. Only fix is to turn WiFi on and off. It’s very annoying!
Exact same issue. Started occurring right after oreo update
Have you guys complained to Samsung about this? as making noise to them will rectify your faults eventually.
Same here, WiFi unreliable since Oreo. I need to restart the network to make a WiFi call and that isn't always a reliable fix. I started a chat with T-Mob on FB and gave up. They're clueless. Samsung S8+
Hello same issu, I'm from France an online the forum in France an Germany many people have this problem.
I read somewhere to delete the wireless connection from your device and then re-add. I'm not ready to say it fixed things but the WiFi does seem more stable.
UPDATE - Sorry to say there are still issues. Oh well, it gave me hope for a brief moment!
Go to settings- General management- Reset- Reset network settings- Then confirm and restart the phone. After re add your wifi networks. That fixed it for me
Update: It turned out that it didn't work for me... it looks like i may have to try and factory reset as it feels like i have tried everything else :crying:

PS - clearing the cache did fix the problem I was having with the TX Lottery app. After the OREO update it would no longer scan the ticket barcodes. It's working again!

Thanks. Let me test a few days.
For me don't work ?
Same for me!!
Just as the title states, I'm having major issues with wifi. It's the phone, it's not the network or router because it works well with all of my other devices. I've tried resetting the router anyway, I've removed the network information in the phone and reentered it. The only thing I think that might have affected it without me knowing at the time was when I left the phone in my car and it overheated. I actually did that twice. If that is what caused the issue then I think I'm out of luck and it's likely not repairable. My first thought was the wifi antenna or something but because it does still connect I don't think that's it. Anyone else have this happen?
How you check your WiFi preferences?
By default WiFi disconnects after certain time...
Make sure is set to "NEVER"
Does it say "Connected, no Internet" and then disconnects and tries to connect again?
Is it switching to 4G because better signal? Turn off aggressive wifi handover in developer options if set. Check other settings too.
Turn off mobile data and see if behaviour is different as a quick test.

In the notification bar it would still show Wi-Fi signal status (on, with full bars) but it would go from displaying "network name" to simply displaying "Wi-Fi". If I long press it takes me to Wi-Fi setting and I can reconnect manually. If I turn wifi off and back on then it DOES NOT auto connect back to the network, despite the fact that the network is saved.

Is it switching to 4G because better signal? Turn off aggressive wifi handover in developer options if set. Check other settings too.
Turn off mobile data and see if behaviour is different as a quick test.

It happens when I have full Wi-Fi signal. Auto switching is apparently turned off, as mentioned above. When I turn off mobile data, it still disconnects from the network, leaving me with no data connection at all. Developer options were off, but I turned it on and checked but that option is off.

I can not find this setting, what menu is it under? I checked in Wi-Fi settings and Wi-Fi>Advanced. I've had the phone for some time now, this happened all of a sudden.
In the notification bar it would still show Wi-Fi signal status (on, with full bars) but it would go from displaying "network name" to simply displaying "Wi-Fi". I'm running 7.1.1, B35. It would be nice if it was just a software issue, although I hate having to back everything up and wipe it. I haven't been keeping up with development, how reliable are A2017U flashes now? I think I remember them being risky with this phone when I first got it. Is any functionality lost? I would prefer to wait for the OTA 8.0 update since it seems to be coming but maybe...
I'm having this problem but mine says that the wifi manager has disabled wifi permanently. I can start it manually and it will connect to the internet for a few minutes then revert back to disabled. This happened after the 7.1.1 update.

ZTE Germany just released a message on their Facebook saying they're in their last stages of testing the Android 8.0 Oreo beta and will release it officially soon. This can be as long as one to three months away, or even longer.
If you're running stock, then flashing a custom rom will provide you with more functionality and performance. Battery life will definitely be shorter though, so say if you're getting 6-7 hours of Screen-on-Time on stock 7.1, you'll get around 4-5 on a custom rom. This entirely depends on your usage however. Flashing custom roms is quite easy and risk-free if you know what you're doing, and follow a good guide. Check Oki's guide on how to flash an 8.1 treble rom if you'd like. The current LineageOS 15 and 16 builds drain quite a lot of battery compared to other roms. If you'd like a good and stable Android 8.1 Rom, I'd recommend NFound's AEX 5.8. If you're like some of us (me included), you can live life on the cutting-edge and flash a Android 9 Pie rom. I wouldn't recommend it though as unless you know what you're doing with a GSI, DON'T flash one.
Always backup before attempting anything.
Same issue

Just as the title states, I'm having major issues with wifi. It's the phone, it's not the network or router because it works well with all of my other devices. I've tried resetting the router anyway, I've removed the network information in the phone and reentered it. The only thing I think that might have affected it without me knowing at the time was when I left the phone in my car and it overheated. I actually did that twice. If that is what caused the issue then I think I'm out of luck and it's likely not repairable. My first thought was the wifi antenna or something but because it does still connect I don't think that's it. Anyone else have this happen?

A few weeks ago my Axon 7 started doing the exact same thing that you describe. Were you able to find a solution?
Same for me, I'm having the exact same issue.
Did any one of you find the solution for it? :/
