miui 8 rom copying to/from internal storage - Redmi Note Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new to miui rom, always using stock or custom android roms.
I am using it for now as cant see a rom I like the look of but having trouble with the way it uses the storage.
I have an SD card but it appears to see the internal and SD as one whole storage location - is that true?
I download files and the inbuilt file navigator is a pain, but the storage location is internal, but i cant copy to this or from this on my PC. i have to use ES file explorer to copy the files from internal to a location on SD (as it shows as separate storage in this app) and then i can copy from // to the SD card..
how do i amend this? i just want to download and copy to PC if needed with ease.. (when i tried making the download location on the sd card the files never actually saved, after the download completed i checked the location but the file was not there).

where are the copied files to sd-card in android?

i try every android version in my phone.but a problem with sd card.when i copy any file(for example an apk file) to sd card from PC, i cant see that file in any file explorer in android but i am sure that file is in the sd card.what can be the solution?
please help.maybe i miss some details since i am new
I've noticed that aswell... You Connect via USB as MASS STORAGE, but anything copied over to the SD Card wont show up unless you restart Android.... The Files are there is just that you would have to restart Android to See them... I simply just restart the Phone go into Windows Copy the Files over to the SD Card then Start Android.

[Q] could not find backup file saved internal SD Card

I have Galaxy S 4 I9500 and my problem is i could not find backup file saved internal SD Card using ES File manager and the others. The other problem is After deleting folder from internal SD Card Storage capacity do not change. I delete 1 GB data but capacity SD Card same.
Here is the explanation.
First of all i rooted Android 4.3 and then install Rom Manager Program from Goggle Store to backup my all info. Room Manager did not work normaly and i tought that it was due to KNOX. Then i install Philz Touch Coustom Rom and remove KNOX. Then i tried to backup my all sistem via Philz Touch Coustom ROM and it worked. Everything was normal. When i run the Room Manager i could not find backup file to restore. I checked the internal SD Card storage capacity and i saw that it was about 3 GB less. It means Backup file saved to internal Sd Card but i could not find by Room Manager. I decide to find this backup file using ES File manager and the others. I could not find Backup Folder or any Backup file. I tried to one more time have backup via Philz Touch Coustom Rom and this time choosed backup to external SdCard. It worked normaly and and after booting android i found the file using ES File manager and the others but not Room Manager. Then i decided to copy this folder to internal Sd Card to check will i see the same folder in internal SD Card. I relized that i have not enought capacity in internal sd card after backup which i could not find folder but storege size 3 GB less. Any how i tried to copy but after coping 1 GB capacity was full and could not copy all files. It was interesting that when i deleted the copied file about 1 GB, storage capasity of internal SD Card did not change. It was full.
How can i solve the problem? Internal SD Card full but i can not see saved backed file and after deleting file capacity do not change.
Best Regards,

[Q] Internal storage not mounting

My galaxy s5 started showing memory full when all storage programs said there was about 5 gb left.
I downloaded foldermount and it said it found the issue so it was going to repair it.
Well after I rebooted. The internal sd card(phone memory) is not mounting.
When connected to the PC, it shows 128mb.
on ES FIle explorer SDCARD shows "???" and when I attempt to open it ask what file I want to open it with, but with the program storage analyzer it finds the "data" folder just fine and lists all the files and folders within it.
In the phone settings options, it can show the amount of memory being used along with the media, mp3, apps, so the Folder is still there along with all the info, it is simply not mounting properly?
Thank you.
UPDATE: I found the path of where all my files are at, but the phone is not mounting it as the internal storage?
It is located at data/media/0
UPDATE: I found the path of where all my files are at, but the phone is not mounting it as the internal storage?
It is located at data/media/0 and mnt/sdcard0 or mnt/sdcard1 are missing.
* Aside from Phone being rooted, there were no other modifications
* Phone is running on original OS(as opposed to roms or such)
*There is not an external sd card in the phone

[Q] How do I transfer External SD card App data to new Card?

HI guys,
Trying to find a successful way to transfer my app data (Installed apps which were moved to sd card) from my old micro sd card to my new larger one. Simple copy and paste within windows did not work.
After some searching I found this thread tomsguide.com/forum/id-1607981/moving-data-microsd-card-android-smartphone
It seemed to be the only possible solution with only 2 people acknowledging it worked.
I also have a videos folder which I would want to be ignored when doing the transfer (to save time- there are many vids in the folder).
Any help and input is greatly appreciated.
Samsung Galaxy S4 M919 T-mobile. Android 4.3 - Rooted with stock ROM.
Thanks.

I cant imagine Im the only one who has run across this issue...
Copy paste worked fine for me in the past.
Why don't you move your apps to the internal storage until you got the new sd card, then move them back?

Internal storage is just about full and the apps are many.
Is Windows capable of successfully reading the android files and copying them? The card is formatted exFAT..Should it be formatted NTFS instead?
I haven't formatted anything. Besides, formatting will wipe the sd card.
I simply copied all the contents from the sd card to the pc and then to the new sd card. Had no problems so far.
Widows is just a temporary storage, it doesn't need any rights over them.
Aren't there any sd card clone programs? Like the ones used for cloning HDD partitions and transfering their contents to another HDD?

Thanks for following up on this frustrating issue.
The only android items which show in my old external card are the android folder which contains the obb folder. The other android based folder is a "data" folder which is empty.
Both of these were copied to the new external card with no luck.
Is there something I should be copying from the phones storage onto the new external card? I don't know why this is such an issue :/
What items show on your external card that you were able to successfully copy to your new one? I even tried navigating using ES Explorer and the only item that shows, which Windows cannot see, is a hidden android folder with nothing in it. ..If the original external sd has the same items as the new exteral card, this would lead me to believe that the android OS is simply linking something to the external card to link the external card apps to the OS.
I have never heard of any such programs for cloning from an android based system...
I selected everything (CTRL + A) and then copied it to the new card. Even if there were hidden folders, they were copied.
Game data is generally stored in the obb folder on the internal storage.
How exactly did you move your apps to the sd card?

I just copied and pasted to the new card. Nothing was missing.
All the shortcuts are still in the OS but they are all blank and show as 0kb in size. If I try to go into google store it doesn't show any of the updates for the external card, only the ones for the internal storage are listed.
As for the OBB files, those I never keep on my cards, as there is never enough storage. this is not an issue with my internal storage either, as all them apps still show as being installed regardless of whether or not any obb files are there.
This makes no sense. There has to be something that links the external programs to the OS which is not getting copied to the new card...
Do you know Titanium Backup? Just make a backup from everything (all apps and datas) and store it f.e. in the dropbox, change SD Card and restore the backup from the dropbox via Titanium to your phone.

Thank you for this suggestion. I have the full version and was not aware they integrated db.
I set up drop box on my TBP but I cant get the apps to save into drop box...Every time i try to backup anything it keeps saving onto internal card...I'm trying to backup the external cards app to db as a single batch. Do you know what setting to change for this to work?

try to get your hands on an OTG cable and connect a USB flash drive to your phone, and use a file explorer like ES to transfer the entire SD card to the USB Flash drive, then fire up the new SD card and copy the items you put on the USB flash drive back to the SD card using ES. This should definitely work and you wouldnt require a pc also.

If the backup from your SD card is stored onto your internal card everything is fine. Just plug your new SD Card in your phone and restore your backup and everything will be back on your new sd card.

Looking at the card via Es, I see nothing in there that has not already been transferred. What folders do I need to transfer over...the "data" android" and hidden "android secured" are for the most part empty.

have you enabled show hidden folders on ES?

Yes. Only 1 hidden android folder which is empty.
Looks like I was able to see the contents of the .android_secured folder using an OTG cable. It contains what look like to be the files required for the apps to be recognized by the OS. Also what i believe to be the files for Google Play to also recognize the apps for updates.
I tried copying the folder but it wont work. However, I was able to copy all the contained files onto the new sd card.
Looks like I'll have to mount it again and just use the titanium backup method.
Backed up all the external data using TB onto the new card...I'm now having trouble restoring the backup to the new card...cant seem to find the option to do so.
I have the backup stored on the new external card.

Convert my Internal SD CARD, which is shown as external Memory to Internal Memory.

I am using Xolo Q700s Cynogenmod Lollipop
I installed Cynogenmod 12.1 V3 stable. In that they had made inbuilt feature that External SD CARD is loaded as internal memory i.e SDCARD0. I want to chnage that because as I don't have any SD Card I cannot operate my phone. eg xender says sd card disabled and don't open. bluetooth says : transfer unsuccessful as sd card not found to save files. Cannot save books or data from app as download fails as my phone has no external sd card.
I tried changing fstab file but when i reboot the phone it gets back to default settings. I searched a lot but cannot find way to transfer internal sd card from external to internal memory. I can't understand how to change this setting in cynogenmod
Pls Help.
if possible reply at [email protected].
Edit 1 : When I checked fstab file in /system folder, the command was written as in last 2nd line: sdcard1:8 non-removable. What this is.
Pls help me, I cannot use my phone, cannot install and run apps and my phone is of no use to me.
