I was sitting in Buffalo Wild Wings playing with my phone when something caught my eye. I'm not sure what it actually is but if you look in the top left corner of your screen you can see a lens and a led and it looks to me as if its a front facing camera but just not activated for whatever reason. Now I don't know if this is on everyones G2 but I really had to look to see it. It does seem kinda strange they would leave off such a hot feature on the top of the line phone.
Yes it's a camera, utilised by the government to keep track of people, but you can't tell anyone. You might want to delete your post before you mysteriously disappear of the face of the earth
Or maybe there's no conspiracy, and it's actually a proximity sensor.
if ur talking about the think near the earpiece im pretty sure thats a light sensor. It measures the level of light to adjust the autobrightness i believe
lol, although a front facing camera is definitely a much wanted feature.
but now that android 2.3 is released, i bet HTC are busy in their kitchens cooking up a new handset to have a dual camera. I'm gutted that they didnt introduce one in the Desire-Z otherwise i'd snapped it up.
Hi. I'm not sure when this appeared, but now with the Android L update it's extremely noticeable (well to me it is) because of how the status bar changes its color according to what's on screen. As you can see in the pictures the smudge isn't visible when the background is pure white. I know this may not seem like anything to worry about, but it annoys the living hell out of me. Thanks in advance.
It looks like a hardware defect. Have you tried going back to pure stock to see if there is some sort of app interference? If you have, then it is most definitely a hardware defect.
Already tried it. It looks like you're right :/. Thank you.
@kittymoonstah,
I have the same black smudge at my N4. I have noticed it couple months ago (maybe it was there since the beginning but haven't noticed it).
It has nothing to do with lollipop, I also believe that is hardware related... maybe some devices have this problem (faulty hardware) while other don't...
I know that it's not related with Lollipop. I just said that it was more noticeable now because of the multicolored status bar. I just checked my phone and the freaking smudge is GONE...Could it be due to the device heating up?

Yeah, i also have this smudge on top of the display. I don really care, the end is near for my N4
That was exactly what I was thinking. The smudge could be due to heat produced by the phone. Do whatever you have to do to keep the device cool, because the top area of the display is roughly above the SoC, which under heavy tasks can produce lots of heat.
Thanks! Appreciate it.
same here, I noticed it first when I installed android L test version
noticed whilst sitting in a slightly dark room (my living room actually) something odd with my note edge.
i scrolled my edge display (got several apps there) today and noticed that if i scrolled fast up and down
while paying attention on my main display (right at the border between the main display / edge display) some weird
artifacts appeared where my edge icons are (on the right side). if i scrolled very slowly, nothing was noticeable.
once i started scrolling up and down more quickly it started to get noticeable.
it's almost as if the icons leaves a very dim "shadow" partly leaking into my main screen.
it was quite easy to spot, especially when i had a white background (s-pen application).
if you want to try for yourself, just peel your eyes at the right if your edge display, scroll up and down with your finger to get those app
icons moving, and you'll probably see some dim "shadows" too. not sure what causes this, but it's a bit annoying once i know it's there.
not that it's that easy to see, but once paying attention to it.. well.. please let me know if anyone else got the same "problem". :good:
i'd call it leaking light, or some sort of thing. looks to be the case. don't know why my app icons on my edge display causes minor light leakage
onto my main display though.
like i said, it's barely noticeable, but still..

Not happening with my phone. Everything is smooth and realistic . No shadow or light leak.
You should try to change some wallpaper and activate adaptive display in display settings .

hm okay. i have my display set to the adaptive display setting, and i notice minor light leaks from the icons on my edge display
regardless of what wallpaper i'm currently having. this can be visible in my lockscreen too, on a darker wallpaper (currently
got the live weather one actually). i must emphasize that this is not a very noticeable "thing". i do however see some "shadowing"
to the right of my edge app icons if i scroll through them. not too fast, and not too slow. it's hard to see at first,
but if i fix my eyes at a certain point to the far right of my main display, it's there.
this is not noticeable if i do not scroll through my edge display apps though. when doing that, i notice the app icons
have these very very minor shadows casting off to the right of the edge display itself.
i know many people wouldn't even notice it, but i'm one of those pixel peepers i suppose.
for all i know this phenomena only occur on my phone, i don't know.
at first i thought that my eyes were just playing games on me, but i do actually see some very minor light leaking tendencies.
oh well!
Localized to your phone, man..

i'll make sure to test out a phone in some nearby retailer once they get some demo phones out.
in norway, they are currently only sold over the counter, quite literally.
i tried to place a magazine across my edge display. then i started scrolling.. did actually not notice any shadowing or leaking
when i did that. might just be my eyes, or the fact that i'm in a very dark room. our eyes tend to play tricks on us now and then,
this might be the explanation to the issue i suppose. i'll leave feedback once i've done some more research.
as stated earlier though, this was/is hardly noticeable
Barely worth posting about?

well, if you get the notion there might be an issue with your phone
you'd probably ask someone if they experience the same thing you do.
the phone is not available for testing in stores over here, and i don't know anyone else
with a note edge. this is why i posted about the "light leaking" phenomena i was experiencing.
i still find it rather odd. then again, might just be normal.
might also just be me being oversensitive, overanalyzing things.
yet, i just wanted to get some opinions on the matter, i thought someone else
might've noticed something similar.
Or take it to the shop you bought it from.
Im not going to play dumb with you.

that's fine, no one asked you to. :good:
So I have the edge since the 11th now. And every time I have the feeling that the screen is centered to the right side, I notice it extra with a case. As the area between the bezel and the screen is larger on the left side.
This afternoon I looked with an magnifying glass and indeed saw that this was indeed the situation. It is about 0.1 mm or so but oh so annoying. Luckily I can exchange it, however there will be only phones I stock around the 30th. Keeping mine thill then.
Are there others with the same issue?
The attached version is not my phone, but just an example to explain.
To better understand what i mean I attached a picture. I have the black version but you could see it as the black line on the right side of the phone is thinner than on de left, so the screen is essentially to far to the right..
not the best picture for judging...
But I know what you are talking, I have seen a few devices now and all of them were different in terms of screen quality and alignment!
for me, the worst problem is the uneven contrast (darker sides) on most of the screens. i own 3 devices now and all of them have display flaws. two suffer from a yellow tint when tilting, the other screen has a slightly darker left side... :|

I know. When my S6 comes back from warranty repairs I will try to make a picture. The S5 I have laying around can't focus clearly enough.
Well I hope I won't have a replacement with tint issues or such. Because my screen is, aside of the alignment, pretty perfect. Maybe I'm a bit nitpicky but I think that's justified with these kind of price tags.
I still have till the 30th to get used to it or exchange it. An order for a replacement has been made.
People complain about issues of screen color when tilting the device.. When are u ever tilting the device? U should be looking at it dead on anyways.
Honestly I don't see anything from ur picture, maybe ur just crazy.. If it is a little little misaligned who cares.. It's the curve part anyways..

The picture I used is just to explain what i mean with the black lines on my phone. Imagine that picture with no black line on the right of the phone, so the screen blends in with the white. And a bigger black line on the left.
That's what i have, but my phone is black so i cant put it on a picture to explain it.
I can really only tell in a dark room, but there is ever-so-slight light leakage where the glass meets the metal on the bottom of my S7 Edge. I see the slight leakage on the bottom-left and bottom-right. Doesn't bother me much, maybe a little, but my experience with smartphones is you'll be lucky to find one with absolutely flawless everything including screen alignment. It's often not worth exchanging for a new one, which may have other issues. Plus there's the whole issue of setting the phone up from scratch again. My device seems to be working fine (this is my 5th day with it) so far, so I won't be exchanging it.
After reading this thread I checked mine and its is misaligned like you described. I then went to Samsung and they checked and said that its normal. Now that I see it, its driving me crazy.

Same
Same **** with me. My screen is also misaligned and its driving me nuts with this phone price i dont know what to do about it. I have s7 edge btw same **** all over with the s6edge. I really didnt notice it when using the phone. I noticed it when im checking out the phone looking how pretty it is then when i turned on the screen i noticed that the left side of my screen has a thinner black bezel and when i look on the right it has a little bitty gap.
Who has it?
I have it pretty bad where my clock battery and signal indicators are as well as my nav buttons at the bottom.
This phone having a AMOLD screen i was worried about burn in when i bought it. Since this happened to me on my Galaxy S3 and my Moto360 (twice)
Seems like a HUGE design flaw for this type of screen. Ill try to get pictures of my burn in.
I've seen a lot of complaints about it on AMOLED displays, but only ever saw it temporarily on my Gnex. Not so much on my Note 2 or current 6P. I just opened a white image to see and zoomed in so the nav bar would disappear and I can only barely make out a faint line where my nav bar ends. Other than that, I can't see any. I'm pretty good about not leaving my screen on though while not in use to save battery, so I don't give it much opportunity to burn in any images.
