Since 3 months im having audio problems with my moto g4 plus , when i checked log
its something like
/proc/asound/card---/state failed:no such directory
i posted a thread in another forum and advised to check the proc directory, so using root explorer and on comparison with the xda member's asound directory, i found that the card0 folder in which the state file is there is missing
I got the files and tried to copy paste them using many root browsers
result: permission denied,cant copy..etc
tried pushing through adb, tried asb shell su and then cp command
i can write to almost all directories in the root but not proc
I know that /proc is a directory linked to the kernel where info about all running process is stored
but Pasting the missing file is the only thing that can save my phone, heard that i need a insecure kernel to do that,
Can anyone please help me with this?? i badly need to write to /proc
Can any kernel developer make a insecure kernel with these requirements for stock android 7.0.0 xt1643(Sorry,if i sounded noob)
Have you tried to mount the 'proc' partition?
From a terminal emulator app, type:
# su
# mount -o remount,rw /proc
Whether this display an error message, install BusyBox (i recommend this one) and type:
# su
# busybox mount -o remount,rw /proc
Always without the numeral sign.

This is posted in the N1 forum, before xda got the new sections, but I suppose it works for any phone. I personally have a Droid, and can only vouch that it works on Droid and N1.
I haven't updated my metamorph since stericson looks like he's abandoned it, and since people started commenting that it doesn't work anymore. I have two/three options here. xml version (the 1.1 zip), .thm version (first zip), and the .png for you to pack yourself. The notification .png is in the zip so you can go ahead and extract that, and re-pack it yourself too if you want that.
01-05-10 Update: Updated control file to .xml to be compatible with newest Metamorph. v1.1 is the new version, but the older ones including .thm control files are still there for people holding over.
20-04-10 Update: Added a notification icon. The first zip is still just the launcher icon, and the second includes both the launcher, and notification icons.
Got tired of the straight up blue text so I made it look more like the splash screen text, and sort of what the 1.5 looked like. I have two options, grab the .png and copy over the icon within the Talk.apk and push it back to your /system/app folder, or metamorph.
Let me know what you think. If this is a grey area because it's a Google trademark just delete the post, or let me know and I'll remove it.
Directions:
Download the zip and use MetaMorph like normal to apply a theme.
or
Make a backup of your original Talk.apk
Pull your Talk.apk from /system/app or just copy it to your sdcard.
Open the archive (don't need to extract it) and drag the .png into it, and overwrite the old one. Update the archive if it prompts you.
*If something stops working, just replace it with your backup, or reinstall the gapps. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.*
#As root, copy apk and modify it from your computer
#as root make /system read/write
#copy the updated Talk.apk or push it from adb
#remount as read only
#sync filesystem
#exit root, and terminal and the new icon will appear
#restarting launcher or rebooting will fix the icon text in launcher
su
cp /system/app/Talk.apk /sdcard
exit
exit
#follow directions to modify the archive and place it back on sdcard or push it directly
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/Talk.apk /system/app (or from the folder Talk.apk is in) adb push Talk.apk /system/app
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/mtdblock3 /system
sync
exit

Bump.
Tested and works with CM 7.0 (2.3).
cute work, man
Firmware JP9, power-on to recovery mode => install update.zip => error can't mount sdcard => try to using adb for mounting sdcard manually but adb did not active.
One more thing, root using one click 1.5.5 OK for apps but can not achieve SU @ adb (and adb only work while boot into normal mode)
Any suggestion for install the update.zip from sdcard?
No more recovery for me either (I didn't flash the bootloader althrough).
When you use adb and type "su", the phone should prompt you a window.

root your phone using super one click 1.5.5 (Run the soft first, and click root wait until the software said that waitting devices... plug your phone to PC using usb cable and wait more 2'' or 5'' . DONE! It's safe and you can unroot as well)
you can using some missing command by busybox (the easiest way in install titanium backup and click the problems? button in the right bottom it will automatically install new busy box to your phone)
adb shell
$su
#busybox mount -o remount,rw /system (change to your path to the gps.conf - with this command you can edit or replace the old file)
#busybox cp /sdcard/gps.conf /system/.../gps.conf
DONE
Good luk!

What's up! I successfully rooted my Nexus S i9020T 2.3.4 Thanks to the many links in these forums! THANKS! Now, I downloaded the BT5 ARM img , got everything pushed to the phone. Then in Terminal emulator -
Code:
cd /sdcard/BT5
sh bootbt
Returns
Code:
mkdir failed for -p, File exists
Loop device exists
ioctl LOOP_SET_FD failed:
Bad file number
mount: No such file or directory
mount: No such file or directory
mount: No such file or directory
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
bootbt: cannot create /data/local/mnt etc.....
I can post the rest if needed.
I seen the other threads where the bootbt had to be modified but I haven't seen anything specific for the Nexus S. Perhaps I should use the modified BT5 ARM img? Any help is appreciated thanks in advance.
Update! BT5 ARM Nexus S
So I used the modified BT5 img and followed the instructions here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074169 (not allowed to post there yet!)
I run sh installbt.sh and that seems to go ok.
I get errors at this step.
Code:
to use your BackTrack you can use following commands.
startbt <- mounts and prepares the system for usage.
stopbt <- unmounts and free up all resources.
bt <- a command line version of BT chroot.
When I run startbt I get this

ext2 support
what roms are the two of you running?
my rom doesn't have support for mounting ext2 file systems so i can't use this until i find one that does.
I'm hoping to be able to get some feedback and bounce this idea around. I wasn't able to figure out the right terms for a google search with good results even though I spent a while trying.
From an Android application, I want to determine where the busybox binary is installed on the system or data partition. I was hoping for a pure java solution, but I don't think there are any android java APIs for calling the shell PATH variable...
I also wanted to avoid hard coding the common linux binary directories (ex. /system/bin and /system/xbin, etc.)
From a shell perspective, I would usually run busybox find / -name busybox to locate it. Or I'd run busybox which busybox .. none of these are pure Android java solutions.
There are only two ways I'm aware of:
1) Using the linux binary "which". I could compile this for arm (or use the busybox applet) and package this binary into the application, have it extract when the application loads and execute and parse the output. Could do the same with the find linux binary...
2) Use the RootTools method Stericson published - InternalMethods.java. Although his approach uses a root shell to run dd to copy it from /init.rc (permissions usually read only for root) into /data/local/tmp and set it 777 so the android application and parse it for the export PATH line.
EDIT: found another method .. kind of an interesting approach.
http://osdir.com/ml/AndroidDevelopers/2009-03/msg04053.html
ps | grep /system/bin/sh
cat /proc/<pid>/environ
have to parse some of that output, but it seems to work thru adb shell w/o root.
I very well might have overlooked something or missed another approach. Any other ideas or other approaches?
Thanks in advance!

Couldn't you use java.lang.System.getenv()?

lol. unfortunately the scope of my app is only to show the user where their busybox binary is currently located, not provide them with a busybox binary.

Wow! very interesting. Sad I couldn't find this in all my searching through the android docs.
Two questions after looking over the information I can probably answer through testing, but can't test at the moment. If anybody knows the answer, would be helpful. Otherwise I'll post back when I am able to test.
1) Would the SecurityManager block a 3rd party app from using this call as it might be reserved for only apps signed with platform keys? I can compile and test watching logcat to see if it blocks this call.
2) For the getenv(String name) method, what value should be passed as the string? I can probably bypass this by just running the getenv w/o a string to have it return the Map and sort through the map.
Thanks for the help/suggestions/feedback!
Finally had a chance to test!

Turns out to be the perfect answer!!
This is the exact command I was looking for:
textBox.setText(System.getenv("PATH"));

Hey there,
I've trouble installing the Nova Launcher Prime as a system app. I am new to Android, but with this forum I was able to root my device and learn some 1-day Android knowledge.
I found two tutorials online, but they seem to only provide information for moving a single *.apk file (sorry can't post links due to new account).
I think this is fine for the normal Nova Launcher app, but not for the prime version?
When I look into my /data/app folder, there is a com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime-1 folder. Inside that folder is a base.apk file and a lib file.
How can I install the prime version as a system app?
Do I need to move the complete folder to /system/app?
I've read that with "mount -o rw,remount /system" I can get write access to /system, but how do I reverse it after the move command?
Thank you very much in advance.
I've never made nova prime a system app cuz it's basically just a key that tells the actual launcher you have the paid version and therefore unlocks the paid features of nova launcher. Just make the actual launcher into a system app and you're good.

As long as nova prime is installed it doesn't matter if nova launcher is a system app or a user app. All nova launcher prime is is an unlock key, it doesn't contain the actual launcher itself. So you have to install nova launcher still.

You can try:
Code:
mount -o ro,remount /system
Or I just use Root Explorer and it has a button you press to switch back and forth.
When I try to move the folder for the Nova Launcher to my system/app folder, I receive an error message:
mv: invalid option -- P
usage: mv [-fiv] source target
mv [-fiv] source ... directory
mv: /system/bin/cp: terminated with 1 (non-zero) status
What I exactly do is this:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cd /data/app
mv com.teslacoilsw.launcher-1/ /system/app/
I think this has to do with permissions. Can you please help?
Many thanks!

I've always used an app called app2sd to convert to system app. You could also use any root explorer or even use es file explorer as it has a root explorer built in to it to move it instead of using adb.
