I can't turn on my Moto X Style - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So yesterday i swapped the cracked screen of my brother's old Moto X Style to use is as a spare phone, but unfortunately i can't make the phone boot since i built it back together: If i plug a Micro USB cable, the screen turns on, showing a battery with the percentage, then vibrates and turn off. It also recognize if it's plugged in turbo charge or not. I've already fully charged the battery and reopened it to see if there were something missing/not plugged but i don't think so.I tried to hold Power for a very long time, same with power + Vol - and +. Nothing happens. Is there something to do? Is it dead? Obviously the smartphone has no warranty anymore. Thanks

Hey man, no worries happened to me, there's a sticky type thing on the battery attached by a flex cable barely long enough. That might have come unplugged. There are tiny connectors, so check that. Pm me if you have any questions!

Checked that and is fine. Also the battery is most likely not dead (I charged it fully on Wednesday and it still a 98%)

My Hermes does not power on :(

SITUATION
My Cingular 8500 does not power on. I have tried connecting it to wall charger as well as USB cable. The red or the orange light also does not come on. I tried all resets also but nothing worked.
BACKGROUND
a. My phone suddenly went off when I was opening the sliding keyboard. It had a decent (60%) charge at that time. After this it refuses to come on.
b. Only addition to the phone in the last 3 months has been a 2GB MicroSd Card. I inserted this card 4 days back and it was working fine.
c. The device is around 6 months old (but its unlocked, running WM6 and does not have any warranty)
d. I have been using the original wall charger to charge this phone regularly.
HELP REQUIRED
1. Is there a way to check if the problem is with the battery or with the phone? I do not have a spare battery.
2. Should any light come on if I connect the phone to charger without the battery inserted in it?
Thanks!
Try this:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
i have the same situation going on ... except with mine the screen faded out...it came back on once...and faded out again and will not turn back on.. when i put it on the charger it was a red light.. and will not turn on or soft reset, or enter bootloader or hard reset. .. in addition i tried the method above and nothing has worked.... any other suggestions...my phone was working fine when this happened out of nowhere... i dont have insurance either i bought the phone from someone off of craigslist..help is greatly appreciated
I am having the exact same problem, I had about 30% charge, then it just shut off, and now will not come back on under its own power or via USB nor charger. I tried connecting the charger then inserting the battery, but I do not get any indicator lights at all.
I was running WM6, and the most recent thing installed was the pointUI home screen replacement app.
has anyone experienced this before?

It wont power on threw charger without a "good" battery plugged in.
Sounds like u might have a bad battery. Happend to a friend of mine "different phone" just go to a local Radioshack If they have your type of battery and have one in stock they will most likely let you try one on your phone. If not just go to ATT wireless store and see if they have one you can try and buy.

Dear demo23019, I am not sure if I understand the above correctly. Should the Power LED light up "red" when battery is not inserted?
Once I connect the phone to charger (wall or USB), without the battery inserted in it, no red light comes on.
Does this mean that there is some problem with the phone hardware?

Yea the power LED should light up red with out a battery plugged in. Check the usb plug on the bottom of your phone, make sure the middle piece inside is still there and didnt break off.

Oops. My phone's power LED does not light up when I connect it to the charger without the battery inserted in it.
I have checked the following :
a. usb plug is fine (I checked it by plugging it into the Y cable for the USB charger. The LED on the Y cable lights up when I connect the USB plug into it
b. The middle piece inside the socket at the bottom of the phone is still there and shows no signs of damage.
c. The wall charger is also working fine.
Does this conclude that the phone has a hardware fault and this is not linked to the battery being dead?

I just had the same problem. I had it happen to my Att Tilt and then to my cingular 8525. You should check out this thread and maybe post your info there too, it would be nice to see everybody post in the same thread so we can figure out what's going on.

yh
yh i got the same problem, i touched the power button so it wld go into standby, and it then refused to turn back on, even when i soft resetted it. Plugged it into the wall charger without the battery and there is no red power light coming on.
I've got a MDA Vario II and though im gettin a replacement, it kinda sucks as it seems im gna lose all my data
can we try to determine in more detail what people installed before they experienced this?
I just pulled it apart, and cleaned the inside to no avail, nothing seems to be awry, atleast not to my untrained eye, however it did get me thinking.
I listen to music on my tytn all the time, and over time the usb connector has become quite loose, frequently losing connections over activesync and music comes and goes from both lef and right. if the USB connector is shot, then when I plug it in it won't register that there is power, nor will it have the power to light up the red light indicating there is no battery. also, if the usb link is shot, then the phone wasn't charging so my battery is likely dead.
now to test this out I need to have a verified 100% charged battery.
I currently have the same problem. It will not charge via wall/usb. It flashes red once and that's it. Without the battery and plugged in, I get a solid red light. I tried plugging it into the wall charger without a battery and then putting my battery back in. The red light just turns off. That's it. I can get an active sync connection with a dim white screen, but I do not have enough juice to try flashing a new rom. If anyone has issues like these, are you also able to get an activesync connection?
TIA
EDIT: Is it possible to bypass the low battery protection when flashing a rom? My battery is somewhere around 40% so it would be safe.
Update:
Okay, I purchased a new oem battery and a battery charging dock. This way I can charge the battery without the phone before I attempt to flash a new rom.
I still would appreciate it if anyone who has seen these symptoms (white screen BUT with lots of vibrating / no charging / no bootloader) could give me a few pointers. I've exhausted the Wiki and so far it seems my only option to save the phone is to flash a new rom. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give me some advice.

Will not boot, powers down

Last night my battery completely drained so I charged it over night and when I went to power it on it says booting WPH go go go, boots to the HTC green logo screen and powers off. I have been running WP7 flawlessly for 3 weeks now and have not had this problem before. I don't really want to reflash right now because I'm hoping there's a way to salvage everything in the phone.
Are you sure the battery charged last night...reason I ask is...when it completely drains the battery wont charge when the phone is off due to Magldr.
Yeah, it's off the charger right now and it just keeps powering off after the HTC logo
same exact thing just happened to me. I'm going to start from scratch and redo it.
I am curious to know as to what caused this, it's very odd since the ROM has been working flawlessly.
your not restarting with usb cable attached are you?
how did you charge your battery? external charger?
there is some talk that charging in magldr usb flasher mode works dispite no status lights BUT its unclear if the battery controller will auto cut off when full, overcharging could shag your battery
oh a while back i had some odd restart issue too, pretty much as you have mentioned, happened 4 times in a row then worked
Help me too!!!
Me as well, about an hour ago, my battery drained, so I plugged it in, and the phone keeps restarting, but then powers off...
I've kept it on the AC for the past hour, and now it no longer hit's the magldr, it just flashes the screen black, then dies...
Is there a way to JUST CHARGE my battery? Without having it in the phone?
too bad you didnt seach for this issue, i wrote a nice piece that would have got you out of that mess if you hadnt kept restarting it, oh well never mind,
if you cant even get to magldr then your looking at an external charger, you could try connecting up an old usb cable directly to the battery but be very careful!
This happened to my old HD2 after I gave it to my sister once I got my HD7, to enable it to charge again all I did was remove cable, remove battery. Re-insert battery and attach cable, hold down the volume down button on the side of the handset and press the power button.
The phone will turn on and show the tri-color screen. Leave it on this screen for 20 minutes and the battery will charge, then simply reboot and you will be able to boot back in to Windows Phone 7.

[Q] HD2 Stuck in loop on power up

I had MAGLDR v1.13 with Android 2.2 on my HD2. Everything worked fine, until tonight, I booted the phone into the MAGLDR. I had the menu up for a few minutes. All of a sudden the phone powers off.
Now it's stuck in a loop - if I press the power on button, I get a vibration, and "T Mobile" logo comes up ,and then the screen goes dark again.
I tried removing the battery to no avail.
How can I fix it?
Update:
Now it's even worse: The T mobile screen no longer comes up, regardless of how long I keep the power button pressed.
Thanks!
Can you still get into boot loader? If so, try doing a factory reset on it.
It sounds like your battery might have died. I know that when you are using MAGLDR. You can not charge the battery unless you are booted into the OS. Not to mention it takes a little more power to boot up a device.
You may want to try and charge your battery some how or try another battery if either are possible.

Yep, wanted to point out the same. I had been away and couldn't get to my charger on time, so my phone went off completely and when I finally managed to connect the charger it made it all the way to WP7 startup screen and then went off - not enough to get the battery to start charging. I connected the charger, made it to the MAGLDR menu and left it for about 10-15 minutes with charger inside, then I removed the charger, removed the battery, reinserted both and was able to boot into windows and charge properly. Somehow, even though it's just MAGLDR and no charging light is showing, you can still manage to charge it just enough to start the OS. Worth a try... Although in your case it sounds like your battery is already gone beyond getting to even the MAGLDR.
The only other alternative will be to charge in another phone or use desktop charger.
Take an old USB lead, mini micro doesn't matter,
Cut end off,
Plug into wall charger
Red to + black to - on battery (can hold with your fingers, wont hurt)
Hold for about a minute
Battery back in and real usb in, and should boot far enough for charging to start.
Thank you all! It was indeed a dead battery!
How could it drain so fast, since it was about 90% when I started using it?

I feel mine is on the way out, actually. It charges etc, but acquired a tendency to go off unexpectedly and fail to start up the device beyond MAGLDR and on rare occasions beyond the logo. Discharges unnaturally quickly too. I have a spare, so not a huge deal, but I prefer to have a fully charged spare in my bag, just in case. Just ordered 2 replacements in anticipation of it dying.
Glad we could help, hehe, I bet you were tearing your hair out thinking it was your phone.

Nexus 7 won't charge/power on/can't access fastboot or bootloader

Hi guys,
My Nexus 7 (2012) turned off(not properly) when the battery level was low and won't power on. I tried a battery from a working tablet and tested my battery in another tablet. It seems like the issue is somewhere else.
These are the things I tried:
- leave it for a couple of hours charging (no battery sign at all)
- hold the power button with/without the volume levels while it being both connected and disconnected.
- tested my battery in another tabled and put a fully charged battery from another tablet
- made sure that the battery is connected
There was one more thing I tried - to press the Power button with no battery inside but the tablet being connected to a laptop via the USB cable. One could hear something like a boot noise coming from the tablet (doesn't happen when the battery is inside)
In December, 2015 I installed a Custom ROM with android 5.1.1 which I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/android-6-aosp-grouper-t3268172/ (the thread was renamed and is now about the Android 6 update) The tablet worked fine for these 3 months but one day when I was checking my email it went off and won't respond to any actions.
Could you please help me to fix it? I'm just not ready to give up on this tablet. Thanks!
Both you and i, same model, essentially, the same circumstances. I also tried every method you mentioned as well. Even down to the flashing of a rom. Same results. I even tried "jump starting" the battery. Not wanting to give up on it. It sits in my closet like that boy in A.I at the bottom of the ocean, waiting... I know that is not the reply or help you were looking for. Just so you know, you are not alone..

Well, that's a good start, at least I am not the only one!
Have you tried to connect your device via USB? My laptop can see a connected device but it can't recognize it and I hear some sounds coming from the tablet when I try to hold the `power` button. This made me think that it can be a display/screen related, so the device works but we can't see it due to the broken screen/display. Don't know how to check that though.
Same here, stock Nexus 7, won't turn on, just switched off one day and won't come back on, have tried everything as suggested above, can't get it to flicker, doesn't even register the power connection with a green light or anything

Try replacing the screen, just to check. If that doesn't fix it, at least you have a brand new screen!

I fix mine,
let it sit on the charger for a hour, then hold down the button for 20 sec
same issue here as well ive had it for about a year and im not able to access anything via my pc google help forums had no answer either, looks like we may be screwed..........
Hi, I just had same issue with my tablet only thing is that I was using it with ~20% of battery, nothing special - browsing the web using chrome, then the screen lit gray and shut off. After that no response either from charger, holding power button for 60+ seconds didn't work either, tried re-connecting the battery, still with no signs.
And then, I tried to plug in the charger and then pressing VolumeDown+Power immediately after connecting the charger. Suddenly got some response, that battery charging icon appeared, and it shows my battery charging, but from 0%. Still waiting to charge a bit until I can try to boot it.
I'll update this post with any news.
EDIT: When I connected my tablet to the charger it had that hissing sound, but after few minutes it stopped.
After 15 minutes of charging I managed to boot my Nexus7 with 7% of charge in it a that moment, It seems to work for now.
Summarry of what I did to solve my problem:
1. Opened the back of the N7 (I used a guitar pick for this) and re-connect the battery.
2. Then plugged in the charger and at the same time pressed VolumeDown+Power, battery icon lit up but went out, repeated step 1, and then step 2 again gave me animated battery charging animation which showed up for like 10 seconds
3. Waited for 10-15 minutes and tried to boot normally. And it works now

Honestly, I do not think it is the battery, I can see the Charge signal, and the Battery is showing 1,784 VDC tested unplugged and disconnected, my smart young co-worker seems to think POST is failing, I still never see a "Charging" indication.
Does anyone know , Is there a fail safe, say the battery is disconnected, and usb charger is plugged in, will i just see all 5VDC at the sub port, ?
I never see a screen flicker, DEAD battery sign, nothing.
co-worker, tried some things that made sense when he explained what he did, I would have to agree with him.
Now it is rooted, 4.x something I forget, Never went to 5.x did once early and did not like it, Back stock, ran 2 days no issues, Rooted again, 4.x still do not remember, worked great 3-4 months, Sons ran it to DEaD and that was it, put it up for 90 days or so, wife got new tablet, kids have Fire each, and here i am tabletless, CRAP, did not want to throw to much $$$$ at this thing, nor did I want to buy a new one.
Samsung Tablet here we come.
any body want this Nexus 7, it is a 2012 model.

S4 i9500 dead without reason

Dad's S4 i9500 suddenly died.
Won't turn on at all. No recovery mode, nothing.
No damage, phone is immaculate.
Was not dropped, nothing.
Phone will not charge and screen that shows charge when charging shows nothing.
Any ideas, anyone?

Double check your power supply and your usb cable. Probably the battery is totally empty and will not been charged...
I keep a few spare batteries on me that are always fully charged. We have tried a couple of those in Dad's phone, then put them in my phone to check they had charge. They had 100% charge.
The phone was still 100% dead with the 100% charge batteries in them.
I have replaced the charging port ribbon last night in case this was causing a short.
The new ribbon made no difference; still 100% dead. Nothing at all. No sign of life at all.
I'm thinking the on/off button or the power IC.
Of course it may be something else.
Your thoughts?
Thanks
It can be the power button has gone faulty it happened to me before try smacking the power button couple of times to see if it makes any difference i pushed mine against a desk a couple of times and it worked after that i installed a shake lock app so i don't need to press the power button anymore unless i need to turn on/off the device.

I put a ohm meter across the on/ off switch this evening.
I get infinite resistance when it is not pressed, and finite/ no resistance when button is pushed.
So the switch is working perfectly and it's definitely not the on/off switch.
Any other ideas?
guess your motherboard is x_x then
Yes seems to be the board.
What's the best way to work out what's wrong with it/ get it fixed.
Anyone know the most likely cause/ who does, or how to do such trouble shooting analysis.
