Galaxy S8 WiFi disconnecting problem w/metro pcs carrier - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have a galaxy s8 threw metro pcs and have been having this WiFi problem that seems to happen only when using an app or game that uses WiFi. The WiFi disconnects, reconnect and does this randomly and often. I know it's not my router and have seen the same issue with other phones. I have tried using service mode to disable WiFi power saving mode by dialing *#0011#, tapped the pull down menu at the top right and hit WiFi. But it then takes me to a menu where all i can do is test ping and see no option for disabling the WiFi power saving mode. I've looked everywhere for a solution, deleted my system cashe and app cashe along with other stuff, nothing has worked. Im trying this solution that I've read works for many, but can not figure out how to disable the WiFi power saving mode. I've heard the menu in service mode may be different with different carriers and I use metro pcs. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, or atleast how to disable the WiFi power saving mode (not the regular phone power saving mode), please let me know.

Wifi and GoogleServices major problem

Hi all!
I have an international version of the S3 with a weird problem.
When I have Wifi connected my phone can't sign in to Google talk and wont receive notifications. I can browse and download stuff though.
If i switch to 3G all is well and working. I have tested on different networks and I have a galaxy tab 10.1 connected to the same wifi without problems so it's no ports in the firewall that's causing it.
If I restart the phone it works for about a day then it fails again and I have to restart the phone to get G-talk over wifi.
I have tried setting the phone a static IP, switched "Keep wifi on during sleep" on and off, tried the trick with power saving in debug menu but nothing helps.
Has anyone experienced the same and can someone maybe suggest a fix?
Best regards
Erik

Strange WIFI issue

I am experiencing a puzzling issue with WiFi on my Galaxy S on stock JW7: after going abroad and connecting to lots of free networks I found I went back home, and my home network will not even display on the available networks. It will only appear for a moment just when I enable WiFi connections on my phone, then it will disappear.
I already tried deleting all the free networks I added, rebooting, and even trying to force a connection in the few seconds that the network is displayed. I even tried removing and re-adding it manually, but the problem persists.
Has anyone got any idea on how to fix this?
Thanks!
Try to upgrade phone firmware.

airplane mode, auto ap, and wifi

Just got the new nexus 4 and I'm trying to set it up like my galaxy nexus. I have tmobile's $30 / month plan and use sipdroid at home to make wifi calls so as not to go into my 100 minutes.
It seems like auto AP does not work on the nexus 4. In addition, when I manually toggle airplane mode it turns off all radios and I cannt reactivate wifi (even manually in settings). Any fix for this?

You do know the point of airplane mode, right? It disables EVERYTHING.
If you want ONLY wifi, disable data in your phone settings. In 2.3.6 (N4 today!) it's wireless and network settings, mobile networks, uncheck "data enabled"
You could also get a toggle app like widgetsoid and disable background data sync, or settings, accounts and sync settings, uncheck background data and auto-sync.

Right but on my galaxy nexus I could enable airplane mode turning off everything, then turn on wifi. All I'm looking to do is disable the cell connection whenever I'm connected to wifi.
This happens on my Nexus 4 as well. I had my Nexus S setup this way as well. I use CSipSimple + PBX account, etc. Anyways, Airplane mode constantly disables WiFi, no matter what. And yes the app AutoAP doesn't work either.
I have found this app, Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool, funny that it was made for Android versions prior to 2.0.
The actual app doesn't seem to work (to enable/disable airplane mode and WiFi), but within the app lies a nifty feature in the Preferences menu under Extras:
Keep Wi-fi On
Wi-fi on Airplane Mode
Check both of those and you should be able to turn Airplane mode on and then keep WiFi on.
Cheers.
I wrote this a while back: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29219003
You can try to see if those apps work.
AutoAir for automatically toggling airplane mode when connected to wifi (doesn't check if there's an actual connection to the Internet though. don't know if your app does)
Plane Mode Tweaker for allowing wifi and bt to be usable in airplane mode. It can also make it so wifi/bt don't get disabled upon entering airplane mode if they were enabled previously.
Y5 for automatically toggling wifi on when in range and off when away. Since it determines location by logging the cell towers you're connected to, the phone should not be in airplane mode initially. Walk around the house and anywhere you have wifi since you may be in range of multiple cell towers. It's best to leave the radio on for a few days so it can learn all the towers. After that, it works very well.
With that battery of apps, everything becomes pretty seamless. I have it set to always use Google Voice. This way, I don't have any additional prompts when using the native dialer, and the other party sees my GV#. When I go home, Y5 turns wifi on, AutoAir sees wifi and enables airplane mode, and Plane Mode Tweaker prevents wifi from being taken down again. The native dialer will automatically trigger Sipdroid, and again the recipient sees my GV#. Leave home and lose wifi and airplane mode is disabled, then wifi gets disabled. Seamless. Only problem is calls won't handoff between sipdroid and cell obviously.
I'm kind of assuming the apps may be calling the same functions/methods/whathaveyou and it may not work either.

[Q] How can I disable Android 4.3 features that don't work for my situation?

Hi, I just upgraded to Android 4.3 on my S4, and a few features are really starting to get to me.
The wifi automatically turns on when I shut it off. That might be great except I shut it off because I don't want to connect to the WiFi in the area. And I don't want to forget the network, because when I turn the wifi ON, I do want to connect, not enter a password. IIRC, in 4.2.2 this was called Smart Mode, but I can't seem to find it in the options. Maybe I overlooked it.
As well, when the wifi *IS* on, it continuously complains about my network connection being unstable. Having dealt with my home connection over the landlord's wifi for 1 1/2 years, I am aware of this, however, it's all I've got, so is there a way to tell it to stop trying to smartly switch to using the (almost non-existent) one bar of Verizon access that flutters on and off in my house?
I think there were a few other questions I had, but I forget what they are, I'll post them when I remember.
Thanks!
Ah, ok, I've got it, apparently, in WiFi under Settings, now the menu button (to the left of the home button) is now active for certain screens. Go to "Advanced WiFi Settings" and you now have options. I'll have to see what else is hidden in menu-button accessible places now.

Wifi and 4G stuck together - how to fix this?

I know i'm not alone since i've seen this issue not only on my phone. When i'm at home my phone is mostly connected to wifi. My router is Linksys AC1900. Sometimes both the wifi and 4G icons appear together. when this happens my battery is draining like hell. a simple restart of the phone or the router is not a solution - i found that in order to make the 4G icon go away i need to first turn off the router so the phone is connected only to the mobile network, than i have to turn off both the data connection and wifi of the phone; than i need to go and clean the cache through the builtin recovery menu. the problem is that sometimes even performing all these things is not enough and the 4G icon won't go away. Download booster and Smart network switch are both turned off, but playing with them do not really affect the issue. also i tried connecting to both 2.4 or 5ghz wifi with no difference. i also tried setting a fixed IP address for my phone, but again this does not affect the issue. any ideas? i'm pretty certain that it's not a hardware issue since i've seen it happening to other people too. it's quite annoying since it's totally destroying the battery life of the phone and it seems that there's no real solution for this behavior.
What model number is your phone? Have you considered reflashing firmware / factory resetting the phone?
The model is 935f. I've tried reflashing with stock several times (the phone is not rooted) but after a while the problem comes back. This is the only issue I've had with this phone but it's quite annoying.
I've got the same issue. The only solution i've seen till now is to reflash with a custom rom.
Same
I have picked up the same type of issue. I did some snooping around and have found that if I have my mobile data on when in the streets and when I get home and I turn on my wifi, that if my wifi signal is very bad and my mobile data is on, then it would show both signals. It's as if the phone tries to get whatever data from both, since the wifi is so bad. I agree that it really chows the battery. The only fix I could get to work is to switch of the data and move closer to the wifi where it's the strongest. I will sit at the router for a minute or two, It then automatically removes the 4g sign and only works on wifi. If I stay where the wifi signal is bad and disable mobile, it stays there even though my data is off.
Did you do a factory reset and restore your phone to its original settings?
