Noticed there's this "Content adaptive backlight" thing enabled by default, without any setting available to users to disable it.
To disable this thing and check if auto brightness behaves better:
Nova Launcher - long press desktop - add widget - activities - "Content Adaptive Backlight Settings" - disable it in the subsequent screen.
Reading mode is unaffected, but I haven't tested auto-brightness very much after disabling this bc I'm stuck in the office right now.
EDIT: Ah, seems like it's set to 0 already in build.prop... so, don't know if it will do something or not.
What about the screen_auto_brightness_adj setting......anyone try that in AutoTools to modify the auto brightness?

Evening all
I'm after a widget so i can dim the screen more easily than dropping into setting after setting.
There's loads i hear you shout..
Well all i've tried set the screen nice and dim for the screen only to getting brighter again as soon as the app is closed. I've tried it with auto adjust brightness on and off and all allow the system to revert back to the initial brightness set.
Help before the wife kills me while i midnight browse in bed.
All of the widgets i have used do the same thing as you describe. The 'Toggle Settings' app works fine for me though.
EDIT: no it doesn't. Arse.
yup tried that and failed lol
also tried making a short cut to the systems settings for brightness but failed on that as well.
Noticed something possibly odd about this- The brightness scales on Toggle Settings and in the actual settgngs menu have a different scale. It's possible to make the TOggle Settings app say that you have minus 10% brightness.
I've no idea if that helps
anything new about this? i tried some, but they all changed the brightness for a short time, and then the hero changed it back
Hi all,
I found that the default auto brightness setting always render the screen darker than my favourite. For certain I want to keep the adaptive approach (i.e. the screen brightness will change according to my physical enviornment), however I would like to fine tune it such that it will always return a +1 / +2 brightness on top of the default return. Do anyone know any apps / tricks can I do so?
p.s. I know I can place an widget to manual adjust the brightness, but I am now looking for a way to fine tune the automated value.
Thanks all!

Did you ever solve this. Posted numerous times about a similar issue but never really found a proper solution.
You can use Tasker. Set up profiles for depending how much the light sensor sees, you can have the brightness exactly how you want. Note: You need to disable auto brightness for this to work.
Looked on google for this and found other people asking about it but no answer so far.
If i leave the screen brightness set to auto-adjust, the phone NEVER adjust the screen brightness down to it's lowest setting, even if i am sitting in a pitch dark room. Is there some way to adjust the range of the brightness setting so that it will actually use the lowest brightness? It seems beyond stupid that in a pitch dark room the screen doesn't go down to it's lowest level.
Most of the time i find the screen to be too bright, so if i could adjust the auto-brightness over-all to be darker, that would be cool too.
failing that, is there an app that makes adjusting the brightness quicker then digging down into the settings to move the slider?
thanks
I use widgetsoid (free) from the market place to do what you speak of and 7 other things as well.
i think i already have something that does what it looks like widgetsoid does. I have a button on the screen that i can tap that switches the screen between 3 brightness settings. i was just wondering if there was one where you could tap and get a slider. Seems silly to have the actual slider itself on the screen since that would take up so much room. But a button that would open up into a slider would be nice.
I'd still prefer to be able to adjust the autobrightness settings and use that if possible.
You can set autobrightness levels with tasker. There's a thread floating around with details.

Again, Widgetsoid does this. Once it is setup, modify, settings/Brightness Modes and set it Custom (Seekbar) or use one of the other 2 settings. You can change those as well with custom. Exit. Go to toggle and you have slider with one click on one button, which option of adding 7 more.

ah ok, cool, thanks. I'm going to see if i can find the thread about tasker since i'd prefer to have auto-brightness working better. if that fails then i'll give widgetsoid a try.
thank you
Just what I was looking for Screen brightness less then 10% and Less then Curvefish's toggle to 4%. I was looking for the 1% brighness and I think i got with the Widgetsoid only compaint is no exit after setting... Thanks
Tried looking in this forum but nothing to disable this swipe brightness changer on the notification bar.
I really hope someone can help me with this , my biggest problem is that whenever i put my phone to my ear during a call it triggers this stupid shortcut and keeps increasing my brightness.
Is there anyway I can disable this shortcut or a status bar replacement that might not involve this setting ?
Thanks

This was commonly a good thing for most users, you can set your brigthness settings to auto adjust and you will no longer have this issue.
This way you screen adjusts automatically the brightness level and blocks the "manual brigthness" setting from the notification bar.
Hope it helps, this is the only method I know to change this.
Thanks but I am trying to keep it to minimum brightness all the time to save as much battery as possible. I have an app that changes between 0 and 50% if i need a brightness increase.
So if i use auto brightness is there a way i can set the sensor / auto brightness levels to only be 0 ?
Thanks
I'm trying to make a task that toggles the always on display on and off, based on certain profiles.
I paid for Secure Settings pro because I know for the S7, it gives the necessary options for this.
But with my G6 (7.0, stock, at&t) I'm only seeing a setting that toggles the brighter display for always on display, no actual toggle for always on display.
Is there a plug in or something I'm missing here? Is it under a strange name or something in the list for Secure Settings?
I emailed the developer about this and got no response.
I also tried Autoinput but it does not work well if lock screen is password/fingerprint protected.
Anyone have any ideas?
Are you trying to set the AOD to turn off/on at a specific time of day??
No, that's already in the settings. I want to eventually make a profile that will turn on and off the AOD based on notifications, but for testing purposes I've been using if it's connected to a power source or not.
I would like to toggle the Comfort View at a specific time of day though. But with this I have the same problem, I had to use autoinput which doesn't work well with having a protected lockscreen
On my LG G5 H850, I found the setting to be enable_ext_display_on_lcd_off=1
