I've used my free time to create a noob friendly program to complete task. It can uninstall all Amazon Bloatware. It can also Install Google, Google Chrome, and Google photos. It can install Launcher hijack as well with Nova Launcher WITH widgets WORKING. This has been tested MANY times and confirmed to work on the Fire 7. This can also remove special offers

This is for Windows only. I have no interest whatsoever do code this for Linux. If you want to port it, go ahead!
Please use Root Junky's Super Tool to install Amazon Drivers on Windows if it isn't working for you. I didn't need to install but you may need to. Click here to download it.
Why Google Photos and Google App?
This tool will install Google Photos because the remove Amazon Bloatware option will uninstall Amazon Photos. You will be using Google Photos instead. In the Camera app, in the bottom right corner where there is a preview, if you press it, it will go right to the Google Photos app if you used the uninstall Amazon Bloat Option.
This also installs the Google App too. Why? In Nova Launcher when you press the Quick Search bar, It will go to the Google App. Only if you use the uninstall Amazon Bloat option. How? It will uninstall the Unified Search package, so it will go to the Google app.
This no longer works on Fire OS 5.4.0.1 unfortunately, the uninstall method has been patched

There has been an article featuring my tool. If you want to check it out - link is here.
https://liliputing.com/2017/07/fire-tablet-tool-makes-hacking-amazons-2017-tablets-easier.html
Also I want you to know, if you choose to remove bloat, it will remove every Amazon app exept for the Camera, meaning you will be left with Camera and Settings left on your home screen.
Works, thanks.
Few comments:
If Windows doesn't have the amazon drivers, it won't work.
Installing Google Play Services and Chrome was expected, but it also added Google Photos and Google App.
Either mention it or don't include the last two.
Also, why are you saying to re-install Google Play Services even if they've been installed before?
worked on 5.4.0.0
thanks!

I am sorry. It installes Google Photos because the camera app is still there after uninstall. It uninstalls Amazon Photos and you need a photos app to veiw the pictures you took.
It won't reinstall the Google Play apps but it will install Google for you
It installs the Google App because it removes unified search which means on Nova Launcher the Google Search bar actually goes to Google Now instead of the Amazon Search. I am sorry for not mentioning it. I will edit the post.
Thanks!!! used to install google play apps, and installed nova launcher, but the home button is broken though. I wonder if there's any fix for that...

Really? I tested this and my homebutton is fine, Are you sure you are on the Fire 5th Generation?
Check in settings > device options > and find where it says device model.
Does it say "Fire (5th Generation" without quotes? it yes, please factory reset and try again.

v5.3.2.1 tested. Work ok, but go back to original after factory reset.
Just got my 8" with 5.4.0 in the mail yesterday. Updated 9 system updates first, then used this tool.
Everything worked fine. Nova works, google playstore and apps working. No ads on the lockscreen.
The bloat removal actually removed more things than I wanted it to, so I did a factory reset and went into the bat and took out some of the apps that I wanted to stay. Works like a charm.

Keep in mind this tool doesn't actually remove system (most preinstalled) apps; it simply makes them unavailable and thus invisible to the current user. Akin to drawing the shades when you don't like the weather. The actions are reversible...albeit unlikely if OTA updates are blocked unless Amazon has another back-channel communication mechanism.

It's under settings, users in activity launcher. Something activated it and I don't know what. Perhaps it's only available before everything is disabled. Either way, I see it in the user list, but I haven't been able to activate it again or for that matter disable it. Im likely to do another reset in the next day or so now that the kinks are being worked out. Hopefully the last one for a bit.
Back to wallpapers...the permission to run live wallpapers is already active in at least my tablet, of course in the damn system. I don't get Amazon. They don't want us to use them, but give the permission to, just not the APKs. They basically consider widgets a sin, but give you the activation script in front of your face. Makes me wonder if they really are sloppy, or there's a silent revolt going on internally. Either way those are pretty lame mistakes. I wonder how they're taking this being able to disable their apps.

- this is an Amazon centric appliance - not a general purpose Android device
- 'good enough' probably comes into play (time/budget constraints)
- a minute sliver of Fire 7 owners will attempt to uninstall core Amazon apps unless it becomes bulletproof w/substantial advantages and no side effects
Love posts like this that pit a virtual army of heroic XDA script kiddies against evil Amazon engineers in an epic battle to control a dime store gizmo. Magnify the real business impact 1000X and you might score a footnote in some unread briefing.

Who ever said anything about being a hero much less anything about Amazon being evil? Dime store or 5th Avenue...what difference does it make? I believe we should have the freedom to control what we rightfully own. Whatever comes of this, or that, or whatever we do, so be it. If it makes a dozen or so people a lot happier with a product they own, and that's considered 'heroic', then ok. Call it what you like. I can't count the times I've stated this is fun for me and a learning experience.
But hey, you have a good story line in a plot that goes beyond Amazon. Sounds like something I'd want to read about anyways. It's one of many battles. Small as it may be, a win is a win.
EDIT: Amazon just customized it. Within a matter of days, we've but thrown out much of that customization. When, or if we ever get root, I'd much like to spend time actually customizing it myself. Much of it can be undone by simple edits if you know where to make them. I've learned a lot in the past week, where many of those edits can be made.

I just did it on my 7th Gen, blue 7" Amazon Kindle and everything worked. You have to read the directions and go to accessbility settings and enable detecting home button press, otherwise the home button won't work on the launcher.

You know what this means don't you! You can add movies and yes apps from the Google android market into your DropBox and install them on the kindle without rooting the device. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I have about about 595 apps available.
How To- install on Kindle Fire
I just my new Kindle Fire, which runs a modified Android Gingerbread. One of the ways the Kindle Fire is different from most Android devices is it does not have the Google Android Marketplace; instead apps must be obtained through Amazon’s own app store. As of this writing, the DropBox app is not available in the Amazon App Store, but I was able to get it installed on my Kindle Fire anyway with the following steps:
Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Kindle Fire home screen to activate the Settings window
Click More
Scroll down to Device
Scroll down to ‘Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources’ and move the slider from ‘Off’ to ‘On
You’ll be prompted to confirm you mean to do this; you agree
Switch to the Kindle web browser and go to dropbox dot com/android (NOTE: the ‘https‘ is important!), and click Download App. This will download the Dropbox.apk file
When the download is finished you’ll see a notification in the top left corner. Click it and scroll down to the notification that the download of the Dropbox.apk file is complete. Click the file.
You will be prompted to install the application. Click the button
Once installation is completed, start the Dropbox application and log in.
Done!
Is it possible to change the homescreen via this method?
Would be wonderful to do that without rooting
Also, do I HAVE to root to get full marketplace?

You're right, there is nothing new here. And the fact that someone loaded "dropbox" doesn't give them access to the Google Android market. One has nothing to do with the other. Worthless thread.
LOL quit crushing the poor guys dreams!
no its not nothing new but rather then finding the dropbox.apk you can simply get it from their actual website.
thats cool! i have swype on mine!

This is a worthless thread pretty much since its old news.
However, to let people know more semi-useless info, you can also use box.net which is does the same thing as dropbox, it is also available on the amazon market.
Hate to jump on the "tell me something I don't know bandwagon" but isn't this common sense? Been sideloading apps with dropbox since day one.
Well, till I rooted and set up the Marketplace. So much nicer.

2 Goto https://www.dropbox.com/free
3 Follow instructions ... and voila 600 MB additional free storage
Is there a way to get missing apps to show up in the Android Market? I just did a search for Tumblr/Flickr/Gameloft and their main apps don't show up in the market. Any ways around it or possibly tricking the market into thinking I have a valid device to use these apps?
there are so many threads about this - i can't count them
basically the kf is for the android marked an unsupported device
therefor some apps are missing - you have to sideload them or google for a site where the apk is available
wouldn't editing the build.prop file to include a different device fingerprint from say, a similar high end tablet work?
I did something similar a while back with my droid 1 - spoofed a high phone's build.prop fingerprint, got on the market and got the app I wanted, then changed the fingerprint back.
it should be noted that I did this twice, and on one occasion when I changed the fingerprint back the second app refused to load because it checked device compatibility at startup... but if your app doesnt do that, then you should be home free.
(I'm new to the KF and still getting caught up on the forums, so apologies if this has already been debunked as unfeasible on the KF)
some guys have tried that (i also) - you get troubles with all the amazon apps, because it's no longer a kindle fire - in this case you can go to cm7 also - there it's the same
Sorry for the re-posting the question I guess I didn't see it, but I was thinking about changing the Build.Prop just wasn't sure if any one else had tried it yet. So even with CM7, we will still have a problem?
you don't have a problem - but you don't have a kindle - with cm7 it's like any other android tablet
Curious about this too... Sideloading is a pita.
I remember back in the old samsung moment days we had the same problem but it went away with the first of the custom roms. I already tried to modify the build.prop file with samsung galaxy device info and it didn't work. Hopefully someone will find the magic piece of code...

If you've noticed, almost every app people sideload works on the kindle. The only thing I've tried to install that didn't was launcher pro and I knew that wouldn't work before I tried it. I was just hoping...
I'd like to be the one that decides what works and what doesn't...
as i said - the kf is a unsupported device for the android market
it is great that it is now displayed as kindle fire - that was not in the beginning
google is shurely not interested to support the amazon device in any way because amazon built its own market
so every app that checks the device is not available, regardless if the app would be working or not
there are some apps on the market where the free version is not shown up but the paid version is

It's not as simple as that. For example Skype is available on the Market place, but without a camera or mic it's about as much use as errr a helicopter ejector seat.
However none of the Google suite are available, or even twitter! These are core apps and work just fine on the Kindle!
On the other hand, I've had to download Google Maps, Twitter etc. which all work fine on the KF, but are not in the market.
I don't mind doing that, but it seems that since they don't show up in your market application list, they won't get updated or show needing update. Frankly I'm not sure how I would update to the newer version without seeing the update on my Samsung Galaxy S2, and then searching for and installing the apk file manually.
Ive had issues with unlisted apps mainly, I do get the odd one that.works, but I prefer ones that work for certain flawlessly.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
are you guys running CM7 or the KF firmware? some of the apps you guys are talking about(twitter) show up just fine in CM7, but coincidentally, some apps still don't show up or are listed as incompatible(NBA Gametime 2011-2012 for example), which work fine if you're able to get an apk and sideload them
I am on CM7 and there are quite a few games, primarily Gameloft games, that will not play once sideloaded even though they played fine on the stock ROM. Gameloft Customer Support has said this was an issue that was being addressed in future updates, so we will see.
To clarify: Some of the apks are games I had loaded on the original Amazon ROM and saved to a backup. Some are specific to kindle (ie title includes Kindle Fire version) and fail to even so much as start without FCing. Others state that the device is not compatible.
do this, and all of your wishes will come true:

Hi my first thread I was excited. I have been using aptoide for installing virtually anything without any difficulties and whilst browsing it informed me there was an upgrade for Amazon store, of course I clicked it, I have updates blocked in the router by the way.
Well I didn't expect much , Amazon store runs for about 20 seconds and closes so far, shame.
I opened my main menu, closing the fire menu Low and Behold all my apps now appear in the main app menu . I have powered off and on, they are still there. Here is the screen shots, excuse the text I'm on my phone . Enjoy

This is a great post.
I really want this but do not want to loose my root access or want any funky issues. I think my questions will put a lot of user concerned to rest.
I hope someone brave enough who has rooted there AFTV would try your approach and see if it works. I would love it if that person can confirm the following
1) Was your AFTV rooted before you click on the AmazonApp and updated?
2) did you block OTP updates using adb or just thru router?
3) what firmware are you currently running? Is amazon stock firmware or pre-rooted firmrware?
4) Did you try the boot into CWM using Rbox boot menu and try to reboot system thru CWM for normal amazon boot?
Thank you

it is fine if u dont use prime video or any of that but if u do it breaks things
It doesn't really break anything, and there's a simple solution to get things working as they should, simply uninstall and things are instantly back to working. What I have always done is keep the app store apk so that I can uninstall when I need to install amazon apps, then reinstall when I am done.
Reporting back
Seems as reported I jumped the gun, appstore does indeed get broken. As a helper you can use Es file manager, Go into Library and app. You will find the apk there , long hold to highlight then backup / uninstall it will ask you if you would like the factory default apk. All done and returned along with the backup for reinstallation . hope this helps

I have got my AFTV yesterday, I have blocked the amazon urls in my rooter and used opendns as well but still Firetv is updated to the latest version which is 51.1.4.2 I think which is unrootable. Any way I have tried OP's option of getting the aptoide and updating the amazon appstore, which broke the the appstore but all the apps appeared in the apps as OP showed in the image without doing any llama thing etc. but as in previous post I have repaired the amazon appstore and all the view is back to normal for the apps screen. So, I am thinking to update appstore again and restore my apps view which is better for me as a starter but I have to think of a way to get the appstore working for some apps. hope my exercise will someone and if anyone have solution for my problem, please reply. Thanks.
I am running FireOS 4.5.3 on Fire HDX 7" and it is not (and never has been) rooted.
Settings > Applications > Apps from unknown sources is On
I have the file manager with zip support installed.
Uninstall any versions of the 5 apks mentioned below.
Download this zip file:
https://mega.co.nz/#!OItCnSSA!VqBqlbwUa3h5VR0bmIXmRVBq4UeYo5bhBmzmflml3Vk
Open or extract it and install the apks in this order:
account manager 4.0.3
framework 4.0.4
play services 7.3.29
playstore 4.3.10
youtube 10.16.53
Reboot the tablet.
Go to youtube and you should get that normal google account login screen.
Login and presto! There you have it latest youtube apk with sign in ability.
Hasn't crashed on me (yet), but play store does not work (I've tried a few versions).
Yes I am aware of that youtube app with the blue icon in the amazon app store but I wasn't satisfied with it.
I haven't tried any other google apps yet with this combo.
I really hope this works for others. I just spent the last 5-6 hours figuring this out and it's now nearly 2am.
works for me
Youtube works.
Not for playstore gmail.
Oh that's cool I'm glad it's worked for others.
I just wanted to give something back to this forum cause I've gone to it so many times myself.
Found a gmail apk that works
Don't want to burst your bubble, but someone already figured out how to get YouTube to work on unrooted devices (along with other Google apps): http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/themes-apps/how-to-install-gapps-root-t2954372

That command is for Google+ to work. It's not needed if you don't use G+. But at least you provided newer versions.
Is it just me, or does doing this break other apps? Skype won't work properly (no contacts or message history), TuneIn radio won't even get past the initial screen. Why is this happening? Sorry I'm new to this stuff.
I should add that uninstalling these packages then causes everything to work again, so it does seem to be causing it.

Is it just me, or does doing this break other apps? Skype won't work properly (no contacts or message history), TuneIn radio won't even get past the initial screen. Why is this happening? Sorry I'm new to this stuff.

Installing Google framework/services/store/etc on Fire OS is always a crap shoot as Amazon has its own set of conflicting services. Many get it to work (at least partially) while others experience problems. Installing framework/services on an unrooted device presents additional challenges....but also adds a layer of safety as you can typically install/experiment/uninstall without serious consequences. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your current situation; responding to "why is this happening?". You'll probably get it to work eventually with help from others.
That makes sense. I did manage to get Skype 5.1 working but anything after that breaks. Must have added a new feature since then that gets into that services conflict you mention. No luck with TuneIn, though I found an alternative for that.
Any word on a working play store app? Wife got a Fire Tablet today on 4.5.3 and so far its unrootable and most google things arent working. Thinking about a new tablet at this point.

If your family is looking for unfettered access to the play store you should definitely look for another device. It will be awhile before alternative roms become available to newer Kindles and most play store implementations are hacks at best. While the hardware is wonderful you really have to be wed to the Amazon ecosystem to truly appreciate the device (or be fortunate enough to have an 'older' model that can be rooted/unlocked and run a Google friendly rom).

I appreciate the frank reply. I was able to set her up with Chrome and Gmail which were her main concerns. The 1Mobile 3rd party marketplace had any of the other apps she was looking for. I also finished moving all her books over so she's going to take it for a spin this weekend when we head to the beach for a night and see how it goes.

If you are comfortable with 1moble (one of my favorite 'alternative' marketplaces) then many of the shortcomings inherent with the Amazon store can be mitigated. Chrome (more often Gmail) can get fussy without google services/framework. Opera is a nice alternative that utilizes the same core engine as Chrome. Gmail is a little tougher to directly emulate; plenty of alternatives if the Gmail app coughs up a fur ball (I happen to like Aquamail). You really don't need root but if you choose to do so Xposed framework adds a few nice touches that can further tame an HDX without compromising native functionality.
Hope it works out for you folks.
You can run Google services framework without root. People have been having issues with the newer builds however. If it does not work for you, try build version 7.0.99.

That will work for now (thanks @lekofraggle for the tip) but be aware Google is quickly adapting apps to leverage capabilities introduced in newer builds of services framework. For now that appears confined to Maps and Google Now (eg: card features) and primarly targets Lollipop.
You are welcome. I know about the impending issue with Google play services. Hopefully they fix the issues soon. Google maps works for now but complains.

I have a 2018 Fire HD 8, and on that, you can skip logging in with your Amazon account, basically turning it into a cheap, generic Android tablet. I installed Google Play, and that's all I needed. Can you still do this with the 2020 model? Thanks in advance!

Yes, when you get to the select wifi page on setup hit select WiFi, but do not select a network, hit cancel and back, you should have a skip available to move forward. You will still have to run fireOS, but can install the play store and change the launcher to give it a Android feel.

Excellent, this is exactly what I needed confirmed, thank you for that! I wish Amazon would allow this for their Fire Stick line, but I won't complain that it's still allowed on their tablets.

Really in my opinion there is no benefit from not registering it. Not registering it causes amazon apps not to work, makes it so you can not install apps from the amazon app store. I skipped registration, then disabled my updates and lockscreen ads, then registered. You are still going to be running FireOS with a alternate launcher. You can disable amazon bloat. Just curious, what is the benefit of not registering it?

I don't know if the new models are any better, but when I registered my 2018 model, it started to run *horribly.* It got extremely slow, and it tried to load a million things in the background that I didn't want. I formatted it and started using it unregistered again, and it was great.
Also, I kind of just like that a device's lifespan isn't tied to a server. I like knowing that I'll always be able to use it without having to worry about having internet access or an account associated with it.
I didn't uncheck "Link device to your Amazon account" i when ordering, will I still be able to use this toolkit?
Thanks
