No GPS with second app when running Android Auto - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

I just bought a Moto G5 Plus because Android auto on my old phone was unstable and I run into another issue. When Android Auto is running and I start another app is does not get GPS data. It only starts to work again after a phone reboot. The other apps I use are flitsnav and Flitsmeister (Dutch apps). This worked fine on my old phone so..... What's with the Moto rom?

Hi,
This is another point to improve Android Auto: it never uses the GPS of the Car. Then it allways uses the GPS of the phone. And futhermore, it doesn't share the GPS data between Apps.
Google, come on! Improve the Android Auto asap!

That should not matter at all. Any app should use the location service, including Android auto. But I see the location service being used, the app just does not get any data.....

Btw, turning the location service off and on seems to help also. Clearly a bug in the Moto firmware.....

Hi,
I have both, the Moto G4 and the Moto G5+. I hope the problem isn't the Moto firmware...
In any case, Google needs to fix the GPS collector for Android Auto: when the car has a GPS, it should use the car GPS instead of the phone GPS.

i tried the guide which helped you flash the us sw on the EU version of the device, and it worked. I was running the US version for 1 day, tried updating, nothing worked, i kept it for about 26 hrs and no update popped up, i would've pulled the update and uploaded it. Now i returned to the EU version so i can benefit from the update when it rolls our for the EU versions. I can't say i'm disappointed, moto G is an awesome device, cant wait for january
I'll give my impressions once I actually get KitKat. I pre-ordered the US GSM model direct from Motorola, and I live right smack dab in the middle of the USA.....no update yet. =(
Improvements in camera ?
Any improvements in camera in this update ?

I doubt it, good cameras come from using good quality lenses and sensors, motorola skimped in the camera hardware for the price point knowing that most ppl just upload to facebook or ruin with instagram.

The camera is most certainly improved with KitKat. The pictures seems to be much sharper than before.

Nice try. There is nothing wrong with the camera hardware in this phone. There has been some sort of aggressive software filter that blurred the photos in 4.3 but it is fixed in kitkat. Perhaps you should see for yourself next time.

Anyone got before-after pictures to compare?
I have a XT1033 and after updating to kitkat I got no SIM signal..
So, got back to 4.3...
Just updated my Moto G, but the Google now command "OK Google" doesn't work from outside Google Now. I have to click on the button first to enter now, and then it works. Wonder if this feature is disabled on Moto G, or if I'm doing something wrong. Was kinda excited to be able to use my phone completely hands-free while driving etc.

I believe that if you get the GEL (Google Experience Launcher), it should work.

Thanks it works now but not when the phone is inactive (black screen). I heard that Moto X can wake up at "OK Google" even when inactive, and I was hoping installing Kitkat would introduce this feature to Moto G, but I suppose I was wrong.
Thanks anyway!
^^that is MOTO X *ONLY* feature known as Touchless controls, which uses special X8 core on soc to always listen from you
However devs will never sit quitely
We have Open Mic+ and Utter!
Try those apps.

pls help me to decide buying this or not

I will only mention the drawbacks of this phone:
1. The phone heats up pretty easily if you game otherwise for normal usage its alright.
2. The camera lens is easily scratched so buy a bulky cover. I also have a cover but somehow it still got scratched.
3. No compass.
4. Rom development is not so good as moto g3, but increasing gradually.
5. Stock official N is not rootable yet, so if you want root stay on MM.
Any workaround for compass??
No compass sensors but map is working fine without any problem
After nougat update the heating problem also removed if your budget is under 15000 go and buy it under 15000 it is an excellent phone by motorola.

And what about rooting it?? Is rooting simple ot difficult for this phone?

Problem with gyroscope

Hi guys
I have a Moto G4, and my previous phone was a Moto G3.
The reason of this post is that I use an app called "Star Walk 2" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....StarWalk2Free) and it uses the gyroscope, but when I open the app it does not move when I point to a star.
It's a weird issue, because I had no problems with the moto g3, and I guess that the g4 is a superior phone compared to his predecessor.
I installed other apps, like skyview, star chart and no one is working.
(sorry, my english is not so good)
Thanks in advanced.

Take it to a service center your gyroscope is most likely a defective one

I was thinking about that, the problem is that there's no tech support for motorola in my city, but I'll go to the store (Falabella), and could you please install that app and tell me if gyroscope works on your mobile.

I think that the problem is not related to the gyroscope but with the compass, that our G4s lack. I think that this and NFC support are the main flaws of G4.

The moto g3 lacks of compass and gyroscope and the app works :/ I tried with stock and custom roms.
I don't know what is the problem, maybe is a driver problem?

Google Maps Pedestrian Mode Issue

I have one concern. While in the drive mode of Maps I'm able to get the compass properly. But while I'm on the walk mode or pedestrian mode the compass is always pointed to the north.
Someone also faced this issue.?
If I am not mistaken the G5 plus doesn't have a compass right (global editions)? Unless you het a US version

What's the best Pie ROM?

Hello everybody. I am very dissapointed to hear that the official pie update breaks our phone's gcam! I've been waiting a long time for official pie since I didn't want to install a custom rom and hearing this is crushing, since I bought this phone mainly for the camera. So, I decided I'm going to install a custom pie rom. Which one is the best/with less bugs?
I come from a moto g4 whose roms always gave you small bugs like the screen not turning on when you got calls, or the phone overheating. Is there any bugless rom for our device? A treble one maybe? I'm not looking for crazy features, just a close-to-pixel experience. Thanks!
Then just flash pixel experience, it's stable. Coming to gcam, it already has its own issues on pie which should be worked out in a month or so, if camera is your priority, it's better to stick with 8.1 as of now

Stock. Xiaomi has really done a tremendously good job this time with the Stock Pie update. Not only is it stable but this time it comes with a few nifty new features. Apart from the built-in FM Radio, you can now pick between Bluetooth and wired headphones in Settings when both are connected. I've used only Custom ROMs on the Mi A1 since March but the Pie update brought me back to Android One. Try it (flash latest stock via MiFlash, remove SIM Cards, reset, setup without internet connection, disable location, connect to Wi-Fi, download TurboVPN or any decent VPN app, connect to Netherlands or USA, check for updates in Settings and don't put the SIM cards or enable location until you're in Pie).
Give it a few days. I'm sure new gcam versions will be released soon.

Well, didnt recived Pie yet, but give it a few weeks, there will be guide for enabling camera2api and installing gcam, i am preety sure.
Actually Gcam working fine for me on Pie. Useing this version: V8.3Build-5.1.018.177624777
A very ungrateful question. It all depends on what you need and what interests you.
It's all nice and good in the description, but it does not work on the phone just like that. due respect for people who do it.
I tried 4 different custom roms and eventually returned to the oreo 8.1.0 and veit Pie.
