Like most of you, I have been complaining about excessive battery drain in nougat versions. After trying different roms and going back to Emui 4.0, I came across C636B585. This version have quite a great battery performance (even better than Emui) and the fast charge came back, (it had disappeared in other Nougat versions) finally I have a great battery live in a Nougat version, and the device feels smooth as butter. Definitely worth giving it a try.
I debranded and then got the update using proxy and the firmware finder.
Now if only there was a working way to get it on AL10C00
would love to try it
@juanq214, do you know how can I move from cm-13 custom ROM (lineage os) to L29C636B585? I don't want to brick my device so would like to avoid trial and error methods. Any help / links much appreciated.
IS it better than al10 b589? ^^
I have this version and did factory reset etc. I still think the battery is poor in comparison to pretty much any Marshmallow rom. Max SOT I get is 6-7 hours, but it's random sometimes I get less than 5. With MM I'd typically get around 9-10 SOT.

thats the 50.000 dollar question here im betting B589 has the same base, if not newer, so debranding an AL10 to L29C636 just to try this rom wouldnt make much sense in my eyes
guys, i will tell you this one more time: depending on the apps ure running, the sensors u leave switched on (BT, GPS, Wifi, etc) especially when not in active use, screen brightness, standby time, number of calls made, data type (2G/3G/4G), etc your SOT values will differ by A LOT even on the exact same firmware and configuration!!!
example: on days when im at home / permanently connected to a wifi (all other sensors and mobile data switched off), i usually get around 9-11h SOT.
however, when im on the move with mobile data switched on (3G), using GPS for navigation and making calls, then my SOT tanks to around 6-7h. thats both on the same firmware with same settings, same apps installed etc.
so, if you REALLY want to compare battery life between firmwares objectively, ull have to do the following:
install firmware, leave it stock, dont change any settings, switch on wifi, BT, gps, mobile data, make sure the screen stays switched on at a defined brightness level (not automatic but static) and make sure u dont get any calls or messages, otherwise that would again change the battery life.
do that for every single firmware and u got urself an objective comparison of SOT values
personally, no matter which firmware i was on so far, i always got more or less identical SOT runtimes: around 9-12h on less intensive days and 6-8h on more intensive days. thats it, and it hasnt changed going from B112 to B357 to B575

Well, in my case I have had 5 different Mate 8 devices, so I am quite familiar with this device. Like the previous comment points it out, it is quite difficult to make an objective comparison between different filmwares. However you know your device and you can tell when it is consuming more battery than I should. Before this version, I was running L29C432B585, and you could see the battery draining in from of your eyes as you used the decide, it was just unusual.
I am a heavy user, (Bluetooth for my smartwatch, GPS when driving, wifi modem, switched to 4g often, etc) and still can make it to the end of the afternoon in a normal day without charging. That's fair enough for me. Also you must take into account how old your device is, and batteries get older, they lose mha capacity.

Can confirm this. I have no problem getting over 10h SOT when one wifi. This phone is very efficient when not on mobile data.
Huawei radio sucks a lot. You can see how the phone gets hot with intensive Internet use on mobile data while it stays cool when you do the same on wifi.
I'm wondering why all these updates get sent out to some, but not to all Mate8 users?

depends on your cust (internal regional code) and im guessing they send out the updates in waves to check to real life applicability (no bugs, stable, etc)
also, lots of people here just update manually via firmware finder or dload method
i for one am planning to update to kangvip B589 once im back home from holidays

Not that I'm aware of.
Sadly the battery drain came back... From yesterday afternoon the battery has been draining at an unusual fast pace, strangely the fast charging feature is also gone.
So it seems it's something that comes and goes. Since I flashed this rom, I had used the phone for about 1 week without battery issues. I wonder what triggers this behavior In the device? Yesterday y didn't do any unusual stuff apart from installing a couple of apps.
I'll have to end up selling my device and sticking to a different brand. Definitely Huawei produces great phones with really poor support and almost no development. I'll keep you posted.
Enviado desde mi HUAWEI NXT-L29 mediante Tapatalk
the support is actually great for the mate 8. here some statistics: from october 30th, 2015 up to the most recent firmwares from july 21st, 2017, a total of 595(!!!) full firmwares and OTA updates have been published on huawei servers for all variants of the mate 8. that time span is equivalent to 630 days, so we have 630/595 equals
one firmware published every 1.06 days or 25.4 hours on average!!!
could anyone call that bad support?
besides, this battery drain issue some users face here sounds VERY much like a settings / installed apps problem to me, especially since it just "appears" suddenly when "a couple of apps" are installed, very curious indeed

It doesn't make any sense to release updates if they come with lots of bugs and you have to wait for a miracle to receive Ota or push it yourself by debranding or other methods. I wish they released a stable Nougat version.
Regarding the apps installed, it's just impossible that common apps such as Twitter or xda app could increase battery consumption that much. I have had more than 4 different Mate 8 devices so I kinda know the device well and for sure this battery drain has to do with the rom.

downgrade from B585
How to downgrade my firmware?
I have an original L29C636 on B585, I want to "downgrade" back to a previous ROM, anything before B585, I couldn't find a way to do it, please help
two of my friends also having a stock L29C636 and they both said after updaing to B585, they have 20% less battery and phone freezes for a sec here and there sometimes. So they are just normal users and they use the same app, same way, so there might really be some battery drain issue here.
Thanks

I came from a Z2 and that battery was really great. Not only was it a good size but Sony did a great job with optimisation.
From my experience so far the AM7 does well With the battery using it in normal battery mode which is recommended for games and movies. I don't want to use any other mode to reduce performance.
Let me know what you think. Overall I am happy with battery life but they could have optimised the phone better I think.
Here is an example of a heavy day use when I had the phone off charge at 10am and used the camera loads plus all the other stuff we all use.

I use 2 emails on gmail. Stock launcher and high auto brightness. The phone gives you notifications what is draining. Post a PIC of battery page like below as that's not right. What model you have ?
thanks. i checked out the app but i cannot suspend my connection when my phone is off as i need to continue to receive message and be alerted anytime. also looking at the features of the app it looks like it is already available in the phone tools of this phone which is why i love it it already shows you a lot of info about apps that are heavy battery users and you can set it in a way where you can have them close and suspended when your phone is off .
What I have done so far is to remove my data manager which is being shown to be extensive battery user and also went back to emui suspending nova launcher (there are users saying its draining their battery) and HD widgets so far my battery lasts longer even with mobile data always on.
shame because i like nova launcher if it turned out to be too much of a battery hogger i may have to ditch it and try apex i can never get used to emui having no app drawer.

Ah this makes lots of sense. I was under the impression the 3gb model was just for the people in China and the 2gb model was for everyone else. I avoided the 3gb model as I was under the impression it would have radios specific for that country. Did your phone come with play store installed already or not ? I maybe totally wrong but this could be why your battery is draining so bad still ?? Let me know as interested.
Could you also download CPU z and take a screen shot of the battery section like I have below. The model I am using only shows 3000mah battery and am wondering if yours shows the same ?

Mine says 3000mAh as well. TL09 model.
it shows the same with me on CPU Z 3000mAh. probably the app is not reading it right. i think i was able to sort it out. took out power hungry apps and suspended apps that i dont need running on the background and i am able to get a day of charge at light to medium usage.
From what i know the gold version is offered outside china although some country doesnt have them. looking at my package the document actually says austrailia.

Hey guys,
I see you guys talking about great battery life, but if I'd rate mine then I would say it is ok. I usually have maybe 4-5 sot with around 15 hours of battery usage. I don't know whats wrong I feel like the battery was better at the start when I got this phone, but I don't really see the problem? What I also noticed is is that the battery drains a lot in the background. Do you guys maybe have advice? Should I reset the phone or something? I'm running on Chinese stable ROM.

Ditch the Chinese Stable ROM & go with the EU ROM (or GlobeROM,EpicROM),the background processes running is the difference.
Or,at minimum,if you can root the Chinese Stable ROM,do so & use Titanium Backup Pro,SD Maid Pro,or,ROM Toolbox to disable the unnecessary Xiaomi/MIUI items.
Don't delete anything,just freeze/disable.

I never had battery issues, was just offering some sound advice to someone else.
The China ROM is not ideal for a lot of us,no need for duplication of processes/apps.
I'll take Google services vs any mfgs duplication of services, just my personal preference.
However, the U/I & features that are unique to a mfg are what makes Android great. (I.E., Samsung's S-Pen,LG's perfect implementation of the navigation bar/ various mfgs I-R Blaster,etc......)
Hi everyone.
I'm interested in buying the p10 plus. The only problem is that i am worried about the battery life. I have heard negative things about the battery life. Currently i am using s7 edge which gets good battery life. I average about 6 hours screen on time with my s7 edge. What i have read online mostly states the p10 plus averaging around 4 hours screen on time. If anyone is coming from the s7 edge please compare the battery life and for those who aren't can you tell me what you average on screen on time.
Thank you from now
Dunno I used a Z3C and a Note 4. The P10 Plus performs really well, and you should never forget the ultra-super-fast charging which trumps Samsung in every way. tl;dr: I would not be worried. It also uses no PWM (no flicker like Samsung), and it's an LCD, so no burn-in like AMOLED. Best of all worlds.
It's too early to say something as I have it for few days yet, but battery seems good so far. During one heavy usage day I got 4h15min screen on time, but used navigation quite a lot. At least it compares to my Nexus 6p back in the good days. Hope to get it back from RMA soon But overall P10 Plus made an impression to me.
If you guys post screen on times it would be highly appreciated

does anyone have a copy or link to L29C636B320 or the last emui 4 Asian spec that works?
how about trying to determine what the actual cause for the battery drain is before flashing around like a crazy person?
i have to agree..don't rollback untill you investigate. i am on latest mate 8 firmware and have no battery issue.
about 2 days of battery with 4g mobile data enabled.

In a way you probably have a point but I'm simply following instincts here. I do believe it's the firmware itself but not sure how.
Ive rebranded to c636 emui 4.1 and it's a little better but still draining. To put that in perspective, I'm losing 18% per night with phone turned off. This never ever happened with emui 4. Infact on emui 4 with heavy usage i.e phone calls, music player on, Bluetooth on and a good 2-3 hours of gaming, internet browser and msging, I was still getting 2 days usage before getting to 20% battery. I had Kernal auditor but no other app to adjust battery performance.
Might sound silly but what's the best way to determine whats causing drain? I don't have any tools apart from SRK tool and Huawei extractor.

by "phone turned off" u mean u completely switched off the phone? as in power / shutdown? or just airplane mode?
if its the former, this points towards the battery itself, not the software. how old is your phone?

I bought the phone new late 2016

If you loose 18% with the phone switched off....well i think your battery is dying.

I've been thinking about that but I'm still not convinced. I might take the phone back to original c185 spec and see what happens.
Besides, last night it was fully charged at 100%, just plugged in the charger and it's showing 78%.

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Hi guys. I am considering buying this phone as I love compact phones for which there are very few options available at the moment.
If the guys who own the device could kindly post the average SOT on daily usage it could be really helpful for people like me to evaluate the device...
Thank you
there you go, sir..
lots of lightroom editing and insta and whatsapp and browsing.
stunning SOT..
I've got the phone since yesterday. Will post my results at the end of the day. Looks promising so far!

Global version? wifi only or mixed with data?
global version 10.2.2.0 - mixed with data.
I'm on 10.2.2 global. Getting around 5.5 hours sot and 23 hours standby with 90% wifi.
Hello guys, here are my results if anyone needs it.
Getting 7 hours of screen on time (13 hours since removed from charger) comfortably with moderate usage, no games, mostly browsing, some YouTube and social apps and making some pictures.
It was 6 hours of mobile data (part of it in metro with bad coverage) and the rest is with wifi.
It seems to be sufficient for a whole days use.
I am satisfied with it.

I am on Global 10.2.5.0 (PFBEUXM), stable
Oh and I forgot, bluetooth was on all along, connected to mi band 3. Not sure how much it affects the battery though
Yeah I had these >7h SOT but most realistic is 5h per 24hours without gaming. My SD625 LCD phone after 2.5years still had a better battery than this one.
Pretty impressive.

The Snapdragon 625 was a legendary CPU battery wise.
Hi, i don't know how you get these SOT.
My SOT, most likely without WiFi, no games even installed. just a few pictures, maps and WhatsApp.
I'm on global stable 10.2.5.0. so far, not impressed nor very satisfied..
Cheers
PS: also tried the tip to change settings to LTE/wcdma only.

My SOT has also been up an down. One day was around 5-6 hours. The next with some bluetooth, GPS, whatsapp, phone calls etc was 2-3 hours. On stable global ROM 10.2.5.0

I buyed MI 9 SE yesterday.
I'm thinking to unlock bootloader and flash xiaomi.eu (have it on my old 4X)
The stable is much worse then weekly? I prefer to not upgrade every week...

No they're essentially the same but weekly has risks of unknown newly introduced bugs. Don't upgrade every week then. I use weekly because at the time I want the latest features and I update like once in a year when there are features that I want to have.
