Low Brightness gradient issue - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I'm using lux to offer me some of that lo-brightness goodness but I notice that on very dim settings the lighter shades of grey are darker on left side of the screen. Should I be afraid of damaging my screen or is it all good? I'm fine with how it looks but don't want to kill a phone

Mine does the same thing. But the right side is darker than the left. It's a hardware defect. Not bad enough to send it in but it is there. Once you notice you can't stop seeing it. Similar issue with the one plus 2 i had where there were darker lines across the screen. Those were horizontal, this issue with my OnePlus 5 is a vertical band on the right side of the screen.

Display light leakage on top corners of my X1 Screen? anyone?

Hi,
When I dispay a black background color on my X1 for example the pannel screen while it is switching to a different pannel or standard pannel I see a bit of light leakage on the top 2 corners of the screen from each side. A bit white, if you understand what i mean.
Does anyone notice that?
Thanks for the info
Yep I notice it too. Probably a case of bad backlight LED placement.
This screen doesn't seem to have as good a contrast ratio (black levels) as the one on the Touch Pro.
it's rather massive. Its even visible on camera mode when you have wide-mode off.
I hate living with imperfection.
How bad is it on your device?
I have to say its not visible when other colors than black are displayed
I'm probably seeing the same thing as you are - two bright areas on the top/left edge of the display.
The light is "leaking" because the display contrast isn't high enough and the screen assembly is a bit thin.
It's something I can live with, but I do wish SE had sourced for a better display. HTC has raised the bar since Diamond and Raphael, and this one is pretty good for a Windows Mobile device, but there are tons of even better screens out there - think Japanese super-keitais.
humm.. I was trying to look for the light leakage but I can't really seem to see it.... perhaps you could post some photos of what it actually looks like?
yup, it's there
don't see any leakage on mine...
I tried one in the shop and the screen was tilting left a little bit. Also the flip was a bit loose even in closed. Any comfirmation?
I'm pretty sure all devices have the same leakage problem. Just put on a pure black screen and look for the white cones decending from the top corners.
It's because of the led's behind the screen I guess
honestly, there's very little (leakage, short of better term) if not none. If you have seen TouchPro, it leaks like crazy...
Leakage is pretty terrible, no doubt about it. Wonder if this fault is only on some handsets?

My TP don't have this at all. Virtually no leakage. Pretty much solid black even in pitch black environment. Contrast and viewing angles are excellent. One of the best if not the best screen I've seen to date. Seems like they're using 8 bit panel instead of 6 bit TN panel. The latter have terrible contrast and viewing angle as standard.
lucky if u only seen it on top corners, mine are on all corners!
i don't see any leakage... went into a pitch black room and pressed the panel button and i see no white light coming out of the corners...

then you must have a rare TP, all the TP owners in Singapore reported to have the same leakage. that's if we are talking about the same thing with regards to light leakage...
Hi,
2 days ago a friend of me and me bougt this moblie,
yesterday i gave it back to the store, cause i've seen the white
leakage on my display too, on the devise of my friend its ok.
today I'll get a new one. Hope its ok there....
Thought it was damage or so....

Maybe I'm missing the point here. Do you mind posting a screen shot of the issue so we can be on the same boat? Now you've got me curious.
I'll try and post a photo when I get home later, mine is mainly in the bottom left half of the screen and it's really noticeable and distracting when viewing something dark.
Hmmm, I've definitely noticed leakage on my xperia, in the bottom left hand corner when in landscape.
I had a Touch Pro for a few weeks before I got the xperia, and the screen on that was flawless. I might give vodafone a ring and see if I can get it replaced...
Don't forget to switch the display brightness to full to be able to observe the leakage. When I watch the Bond trailer I can definitely see the leakage on the top corners when there is a black background in the beginning. It's rather distrubing but I do believe that all devices have that in some sort of extent. I think you just have to get used to it and live with it.

[Q] bought a Galaxy SII, is this normal on the amoled?

hey guys so i have this phone and i like it, not awsome all the way, but its great so far, astonish performance and an OK camera, anyways heres what ive noticed and i dont wanna send it back before im sure its a problem:
-When i view its screen turned on from different angles the color hue slightly changes a bit to blue, this is most noticeable in bright images with alot of white level for example, is such thing normal?
Also is there any particular thing i should look for to know if its working properly or not? ive heard alot of ppl had problems with the screen, what are the steps that i need to take to check if mine has or does not have the same problems.
Thanks in advance!
ill be getting my S2 tomorrow but from what i understand this is normal on the phones ive owned in the past
all the screen issues i heard on the forums are
black spots
and yellow color from the left side of the screen

hmm thanks i dont have yellowish colors or black spots on mine, when u say the phones u owned in the past, were they all AMOLED? because AMOLED screen is suposed to avoid this kind of crap unlike LCD

True ... when screen are turned and seen from different angles, the color hue slightly changes a bit to blue and that's normal.
But on my SGS2 no yellowish colors or black spots.
OP, the slight bluish hint is normal.
Also normal is some moderate banding on plain gray background.
Also normal is moderate yellowish left side. To check how severely your screen is effected, switch OFF orientation sensor, display a full screen gray image on about 25-50% brightness, look at it in portrait orientation, than flip the phone 180 degrees, so it is upside down. Do a few flips, you will notice the difference in colors on the left and the right sides. Most people do not see it by just looking at the image, they need a real precise side by side comparison like what I just described.
All these issues in moderation are normal for Amoled. What is not normal is dead pixels or damaged screens underneath the glass, but these issues are rare.
Pity you dont have a search button .

Another display issue?

My display had purple tint and I changed the phone today and got a new one. Its better now and significany less pink color.
Also I now discovered something that the pink tint is only visible when u look at the screen 90 degrees. If u tilt the phone a little (5-10 degrees) to left-right or up-down and view like that the color turns normal (like my year old sgs).
It made me realise that this is a screen coating issue (maybe coating causes polarisation). So do u think this will go away with the time of use?
When I turn off the screen and check it under light by tilting I can see a little purple glare.
What do u think?
Do you have this on your phones?
My sgs, when the screen is off if you look the screen under light has a bluish color/glare.
However sgs2 when I look under light, screen turned off has a purple glare.

he didn't need to taken it off
mine was without screen protector and there was purple glare on screen
now I'm really happy because it's not just me who has this purple glare on screen
this does not matter I like this phone
I find the problem when it is directly under bright light only...even when bright sunlight, it doesn't give me the glare...so it is not really a problem, I don't have a bright light in my room lol
Purple glare is not a problem but it causes phone to display purplish whites and greys when the screen brightness at low. At night, If I look 90 degrees to phone whites are creamy greys have a pink hue however when I view the screen from a little different angle (if i tilt like 5 degrees) whites are cool and greys are perfect.
Well maybe my sgs has a blue tint and cool colors that's why I feel a huge difference. Cuz when I compared my iPod touch 2nd Gen. IPod's color is more pinkish tthan my sgs2.
I don't have screen protector yet but I was hoping putting one would fix that purplish tint issue. So it doesn't.

OK. They are awesome but do you have anything to say about the issue that I am having? If u share with us will be appreciated. I wanna know if there are perfect screens wwithout this issue or all phones have?
I meant that I do not see any tint on my screen.
I have a Bell version, made in China.
The only thing that is bothering me is grease fingerprints marks.
Otherwise this is the best screen on market right now.

I have bell too. Where did you get your phone? I would like to go to the store that u bought to compare mine. Phones in the store that i got mine all have the same issue. This is my 3rd phone from the same store and they are already sick of me going there to change everyday. Maybe it's a batch problem. Are u in Toronto? If u are could u tell me the store name?
I've bought it in the TBooth in Eaton center
I checked all the phones in eaton center and they all have different screens. Mostly they have yellowish tint. One phone in future shop was worst than mine(purple)
One of the 6 display phones in bell had a perfect screen. Which made me hesitate about changing my phone. What are the odds to get a perfect screen?
The phones which have yellow tint their colors look pale to me. Only problem is mine, certain grays look purplish. Such as the status bar buttons. In a dark room with 0 brightness they have a purple tint.
when I tilt the phone that purplish color goes away.
What color the pull down status bar buttons should look like? What is your color?
Dude there are always will be some imperfection in any device.
Stop nitpicking, enjoy your phone.

lol. is my screen has 2 colors ? " lower half is greenish/blue while top is pink? lol

lol. is my screen has 2 colors ? " lower half is greenish/blue while top is pink? lol
is this normal ?
when i view gray wallpaper for example. or a white background during reading whatever, i noticed my screen has 2 colors. the lower is half is greenish while the top is pinkish
however, my screen doesnt have umm. any blotches " is this the correct word ? " you know.. when you put a black wallpaper on a dark room.. you dont see those deep black spots... i have none... i have them on my vita though lol.
oh yeah and no grid matrix or weird lines visible either.
just the screen kinda has 2 colors. or pink smearing on top. not sure ^_^
get a replacement there is a workaround for the pink but green :/

what is the workaround for the pink ?
the green isnt really green. its like... normal i guess. but it look greenish /blueish compared to the top one.
also. i just wanted to know if the pinkish top is a normal thing.
you never see an amoled screen without blotches. and those kill me as i am a very OCD " i mean hey, one of the reasons i bought the damn thing is because of its screen. so no blotches is a very wow lucky me kinda thing
it was a screen program i don't remember by playing with the settings it made the pink a little green so it was better but since u already have green it would pop up more so i think a replacement would be better

um.. no . lol i guess you are missing my point. what i am trying to say is when i am viewing a solid gray wallpaper for example. the upper corner seems different in color than say.. the second half. like the upper part of the screen is lil darker / pinkish while the lower part is brighter / bluer ?

and i am saying it's the screen's fault anyway you do what you want
I had the same problem, except the pink on mine is on the bottom, and it's not much of a fade, so it is very noticeable. On program apps like gmail, it is annoying. I took it back to my barrier and got a replacement, and the new one is fine.
If you can take it back, take it back. Or it'll bug you for a long while

Screen Discoloration

Hello,
I just got my OnePlus 5, and everything seems to be perfect. I don't really mind the Jelly Effect.
But, after using Discord (Dark Theme), I noticed that the Bottom Left side of the screen and parts of the left side of the screen are more Darker/Purple than the Top Right/Right Side.
This is mostly visible in apps that have a Dark Theme, using a shade of Black or Gray. With light colors, I can not see the discoloration. It becomes very apparent when having the brightness on its lowest and Night Mode on.
Also, this is the first time I've used an AMOLED phone, so maybe its just me, not the screen. I also think it might be the pre-applied screen protector, not sure.
I doubt it will somehow fix itself. So you either live with it or RMA it and get a new one.
Such things usually happen with usage. My old S4 has a similar issue, where the top of the screen is darker than the bottom. It's hardly noticeable though.
Seems like its an issue with the AMOLED panel, there is a thread about on the OnePlus Forums:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/hows-your-screen-tone-brightness-uniformity.453457/
The OnePlus 3/3T had this issue too, I'm not surprised the OnePlus 5 has it because it uses the same panel.
