LS997 - No upload speed on mobile data - LG V20 Questions & Answers

hey, i have a new lg v20 ls997.
i unlock my device with octoplus box, i configure the apn for my carrier and got a calls, sms and data
my only problem is that i cant get any upload from mobile data, tried speed test and get 0 on the upload speed.
is there anything i cant do about it ?
i use it on GSM network (3G or 4G)
Thanks for help

Thank you, jeniav! Seconded!
I bet we're experiencing the same issue. (Not looking to steal the thread, just notifying you that you are not alone! And explaining the methods I have attempted, without success.)
TL;DR: Upload very very low, services which rely on upload (e.g. bank, eID, some web pages) do not load on mobile data, but do work properly when tethered (but only on the device tethered to the phone). Everything works as it should on WiFi.
Sincere gratitude for any assistance in this issue!
Details:
Device is LG V20 LS997, Software Version: LS997ZV7_04, Android 7.0 (Data worked fine on ZV5, updated due to stupidity.)
Unlocked with GCProKey. Changed from CDMA to GSM - WCDMA - LTE via HiddenMenuCall
For me upload over mobile data works IFF I tether the device to a computer, either via USB or WiFi-Hotspot, but never for apps on-board the device itself. Tethering Mode in HiddenMenuCall is set to Android.
HOW and WHY does it work properly when tethered? Does tethering work properly for you, OP?
The upload speed, tested with Speedtest.net by Ookla results in a measurement of 0.0-<0.5 kBps, download fairly stable around 35 Mbit, ping at ~20 ms to Copenhagen, 4G.
WiFi works perfectly (Up 111 Mbit, Down 220 Mbit, Ping 4 ms).
Tethered to a Win10-laptop: Up ~11 Mbit, Down ~35 Mbit, Ping ~16 ms. Results from the laptop, not the phone.
Attempts made/Google-fueled semi-random fumbling around done, with no change in outcome:
* New SIM issued by carrier
* Toggling of fast dormancy on or off with HiddenMenuCall
* Attempted to switch to Edge or HSPA with HiddenMenuCall
* GCF Flag set Enable with HiddenMenuCall
* Manually messing with APN settings
* TunnelBear VPN
* "Engineering mode" in HiddenMenuCall contains no information in any category. (E.g. It says "AMR CH: ", with nothing following "CH:")
* Tried RRP 5, 6, 99
* Setting "Network mode" to anything else besides "Automatic" yields a response of FAIL, whereas Automatic yields SUCCESS.
* AMR WB ON
Telenor/Vimla-network in Sweden. Manually configured APN in same way as on ZV5. Previous Galaxy Note 3 N9005 had no issues.
Left to try:
* OpenVPN?
* Crying in a corner while chugging ice cream and beer, not necessarily in that order.

Hey, thanks for your replay, its annoying problem but if you change the rom to us996 it will be fixed, probably it some setting on the stock rom

did you figured out a way to fix this issue?

I purchased my lg v20 from a guy that told me everything was working fine, I did some basic checking and the phone seemed fine but when I got home and inserted my SIM card it didn't have any upload speed, I also have done everything, even attempted to unlock the bootloader, and without any success, did you figured out a way to fix it?

Hi!
I hav the same issue with my V20 - same Model number. No upload mobile data. However, I can use WhatsApp for text but if I want to upload a picture on cellular data - nothing, instagram works not at all, email and web browsing works without issues.
So - some sockets and network connections are blocked in this phone - great.
Seems there is nothing we can do....

As mentioned above - same here. I wonder if we will see an Oreo update and if that could potentially solve this.... Not willing to write off the V20 completely yet.
sigh....

Hi guys!
Sorry, missed out on checking this thread after a month or two. Have completely overbooked and out of spare time recently. I have not yet found a solution, rest assured that I would've posted it here... like the good little nerd I try to be.
Was recently informed that there might be a root solution out there for LS997 ZV7, have not tried it but it is where I will be looking in the near future.

Absolutely!!
I am also determined to figure it out. I really like the V20.
Cheers!

u can go to dial then 5689#*997#) has only 4 modes: DeviceTest, ELT Test, SVC Menu, Field Test.
Goto
Field test - NAO test - NAOT - NAO Setting - Nao Carrier
And choose Sprint, if no data upload. Choose None
your problem will fix 100% upload back again with no problem

DUDE - YOU ARE BRILLIANT! The links helped!!
It now works with my phone and here is how:
Dial in phone app: 5689#*997#
In the menu select: Field Test
then "NAO-Test"
then "NAO"
then "NAO Setting"
if not enabled click first menu item to enable NAO Test toggle!
then NAO Carrier
choose SPR (for sprint) mine was on "NONE"
phone will restart and BAM! Data works via cellular now for EVERYTHING.
Wooohoooo - can't believe it. So cool.
Cheers!
:good::good::good:

Thanks, but already tried that with no luck on my end; connects to the Swedish operator for 2G, but Mobile Data stays disconnected.
Very happy to hear it helped, though, enjoy!

Please, anybody, do you have some solution for this problem? Thanks in advance

Finally Telus HTC Vogue WM 6.1/GPS rom update

Alright.. after much anticipation.. the rom release for the Telus HTC touch.
I randomly have been checking the site since I found the download page was updated on the HTC support page.. I ended up getting sick of the fact the the d ownload page was taken down so I copied down their server website and have been checking that. That is where the roms are actually upladed to so when the page is up it would link to the rom. Well on the server page (or whatever you call it) the telus update is there.
Check it out:
http://216.139.227.226/Telus/
So there we go. I'm going to flash my phone and see what goodies it does come with. Obviously rev A but I have my fingers crossed for gps too.
Oh and heres a direct link to the HTC support page for the Telus Touch... as you can see they havnt put up the download support page yet. So it was sort of a fluke I found this when I did as they havnt advertised it.

Great work.
Everyone download it ASAP, in case it disappears.
EDIT: It works, but I lost my internet connection in the process.

Had to call *22803 to program my phone (set PRL). That fixed the internet connection.
Rom works well, everything seems to be there. Have not had the chance to test GPS, yet.
will this work for bell phones too?
modified rom or official telus launch?
i have been waiting for this rom for a while. i knew it was in development and if you are wondering, the official rom will include rev a, location based services such as gps in google maps, tom tom and is bundled with Telus Navigator. It will enable threaded text-messaging, eliminate most of the freezing issues and help with bluetooth reliability. it also has an auto-pair with common passwords for bluetooth acc so it will speed up the process. my question is mainly to the starter of this thread? the file date i downloaded from the ftp site, is dated a few days ago and you said that you just found it. this does not seem to come from the htc site directly as most downloads come from members.american.htc.com unless thats just a masked address. simply put, is this an offical release or a modified version of what is out there?
i installed it and it works quite well, but i noticed a few odd things with it. the XT9 predictive is now not an option and its automatic for free typing fields, but you can't just turn it on by choice. internet explorer has crashed on me a few times, but this is minimal as i was trying to use the zoom out function on a content rich page. also, overall,t he device feels a little sluggish while going through the menus, but overall program support is speedy enough..
.
also, i happen to know for a fact that the telus rom version is:
3.00.661.1
but what you offerred as a download is:
3.07.661.1
why is it that this one seems to be a newer than the official one that telus released?
no, it wont work on bell, but the HTC website already has the bell update available... i don't believe the gps is unlocked for that model.
also, everytime you update the rom, all telus phones will lose their programming and you will need to OTASP... *22803 press 1 for english and 1 to program. as well, after it is done and the device resets... do the same, push 1 for english as well, but push 2 to upgrade the roaming list on your phone. it is import as you will have the most up to date preferred roaming list available from telus.
Hi mike.. I actually have NO idea.. The link I had (which is down now by the way) is the main server address for HTC.. if you were to go to say.. the altell support page for htc and click their rom download it will direct you to the http: 216.139.227.226 bla bla altell. same with Bell and the others. When I had orginall found this I figured that it would be uploaded there before there was a link put back up in the telus page since last time they did that and didnt have the rom I'm pretty sure they were bombarded with tons and tons of emails saying "what is going on wheres our rom!!!"
That said I installed it.. everything works fine. explorer hasnt crashed on me but I havnt messed around with it alot. I did however notice that my internet speeds arent any faster then they were before. I'm downloading between 700 and 850 kbps. Sometimes faster. But that was the same with the previous rom that was already on the phone stock. It also says EV in the top menu and 1x when its downloading sometimes. Not Rev A. The connection says CDMA1X (dial-up).
In regards to GPS I havnt been able to get tomtom to recognize the internal GPS yet. I tried using the gps launcher program which is supposed to prime it I think but still doesnt lock on. Once I switch over to my external bluetooh gps receiver it locks right away. So I dont even know if GPS works. I installed the telus navigation program and it said it was looking up the gps status and then found me on their map but I have a sneaky suspicion this might be through data.. I dont know though cause it was pretty damned accurate. Maybe I just need to try another gps priming program or something. Frustatrating though.
For those of you who have installed this do you have the same data info I have? the EV in the top menu bar? I could have sword I saw some screen shots of the rev A updates and it shows Rev A in the top menu. Maybe its cause I dont have it in my area? But I'm in London ontario.. so not some boon out area in the middle of no where.
Thanks guys!
ps.. any ideas on getting tomtom to work withought my external would be kindly appretiated as well. If anyone has been able to do so with this rom.
that sounds fair. i was just wondering if it was a hacked rom as i didn't want to bother upgrading it without something official. internet explorer hasn't caused me a single issue all day since then. i do find that the available memory has dropped to roughly 50 mb from about 70mb or so before with windows 6.0 and the device can get a little sluggish, but has yet to freeze on me once, which is a very noticeable improvement. thats interesting how the link was taken down and that would be really cool if we all got it in the nick of time. it wouldn't surprise me they pulled it with the touch diamond coming, it would be better to hold off and sell some of those and then launch the upgraded rom..
i can confirm gps works 100% for me. i used it in telus navigator and yes, it does use tower triangulation to assist in finding your location. i tried google maps and for some reason when i select "my location" it says my handset isn't compatible, but if you select use gps from the menu, then everything works 100% and my location shows right where you are and very accurately.
you said there is a program to prime the gps? where is that located? i still have yet to have an issue with it, but just in case. as well, i am unsure about the rev a icon, but it is still EVDO, just "revision A" i believe so i don't think the icon would change much
link is dead, I've uploaded the file to rapidshare.

This Rom Saved My Telus Vogue !!!!!
A huge thank you to Aaron for posting this rom. I had given up on my "bricked" Telus Vogue on Friday and if it hadn't been way too hot Friday to go, I would have already been to the Telus store and bought a replacement. Make a long story short (am a newbie too) something went horribly wrong with the flash I tried. The boot screen still displayed the old version (2.36 i think) but some random boot screen would follow and that as far as the boot got. I tried flashing tonnes of roms but just kept errorring out. I happened to sit at the pc today and noticed a few new posts and 20 min later came across the Telus update by chance. So for a final effort I slapped the HTC onto a USB and gave it a shot. The first try was unsuccessful as windows suddenly recognized the handset as a PPC rather than the mass storage device it had been seeing up till then and jumped to Found New Hardware Wizard. Or at least thats what I think may have interrupted the update. I shut down the update after waiting 20 minutes and simply started it again. It picked up where it left off and now I have my Vogue back even better than it was.
So the reason I went through this long saga is #1 to say thanks and #2 to let anyone that thinks they killed their Telus Vogue............INSTALL THIS ROM TO BRING IT BACK!!!!
JAY
Jay,
Glad that this rom worked for you! Saved you alot of hassle with Telus I'm sure. I am already on my second touch from them as I had a dark spot on my screen show up about 3 months after I got my phone. So far this ones been pretty good and with this new rom even better. I've been reading up on some ways to increas the GPS sensitivity and locking on our phones and will post it in here shortly.
Telus GPS to Bell
I will wait for someone to rip out the portion for the GPS to port it to Bell.
It should work in theory considering they are both the same phone/cdma.
Alright.. Thanks to

the settings should be as follows
Allowed = checked
Assistanc-Spherical = checked
PDE IP Address = 216.198.139.92
PDE Port Number = 8889
PDE Transport = IP
Position Calculation = PDE
This process is a bit.. not tedious or anything but just safty's sale for a good read look at the thread linked below for a guide to getting the QPST program working.. how to get it to connect to your phone etc. Side note.. You have to install the WModem drivers on your computer in order for it to connect properly and you'll need to install the GetSPC program on your phone in order to get the service programming code. That said.. you also need to download the QPST program (obviously). All of which (including the guide) here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix
You'll need to run the GetSPC program on your phone. when you open QPST and you add the COM4 port and you open the service programming it should say your ESN HEX at the top put that code into GETSPC (again GETSPC runs on your phone) and then it will generate your SPC..in the service programming click read from phone and enter the SPC it generated for your and it should work. Thats the code you need to get access into the phone via QPST.
Now follow that in order to connect to the program and go pretty much to where you have to put in all that information ghettofreeryder gave us. Make sure you redial the ##3424 code to get out of the settings in your phone.
Then once that's done. Download a1Jatts smartgps cab which will activate the smartgps in the registry of the phone. Do a soft reset and you are good to go. Make sure you put in ALL the right information. I forgot to put in an 8 in the PDE Port Number at first so I had 889 not 8889. I didnt get any quicker locks so checked and put in the right number and worked like a charm. I got locks on 6-7 satellites in my basement with a few seconds.

Wow. That procedure was really frightening. I got it working and it was well worth the hassle. Your addition (missing configurations) was needed for me too. I hope for poor average Telus users that they release a final ROM with this sorted out.
Edit:
Every time, before using this, an already established data connexion is needed BEFORE looking for GPS satellite. The GPS will not establish the connection if it's not there. A simple solution is to open Google map and move the map up to a download is required BEFORE making the GPS satellite connexion.

The wiki procedure have been experimented on many device/carriers.
But I think "PDE IP Address = 216.198.139.92" is carrier specific.
On another forum, a Bell user reported using the Telus leaked ROM with that procedure but with IP=195.207.101.126 and got it working well.
no internet.
i tryed calling that number *22803 after updating rom from telus. still no internet connection. any reason why or what else i can do?
First time i tried with Telus support center, they gote me goiing thrue the french portion of the programing (#2). After that did not work, I did it again in English and it worked perfectly.
So here it is in detailes.
Call *22803 + press 1 + press 1 again. Whait till its done then the phone will reboot.
Call again *22803 + press 1 + press 2. Dont remenber if the phone reboots again....
This should work.
If not, try pulling out your batery fo 15 sec. Then restart your phone.
Thats all the info I have got from telus service.

#
#Wombat's PhoneRoam Version 0.8.7
# This Mort Script Came about as I am with "3" Network in Australia and this has Rediculous Hefty Data Charges when it roams on the
# Telstra Network (THREE Uses the Telstra network when Roaming).
# To Combat this I wrote this script to keep the Phone connected to Data to the 3G and HSDPA Modes wherever possible
# When it drops back to Telstra Network on Edge or GPRS it Disables Data usage
# It Should work with any network where you only have one 3G or HSDPA Carrier Available:
# NOTE: It will try to connect to any HIGH SPEED NETWORK AVAILBLE
#
# The script will set the mode to WCDMA (High Speed Data Only) when it CAN reach a High Speed Network to keep it from flip flopping between networks.
# When the WCDMA network is not available (No 3G or H available) it will switch to AUTO mode and allow the phone to Roam onto NON High Speed Networks.
# This is so that you can still make/recieve calls when you are not in a 3G or HSDPA coverage area.
# When High Speed is available again it will switch back a short time after the WCDMA network is again available. (Radio will turn off for short time)
#
# NOTE IT WILL NOT CHANGE MODES OR DISCONNECT WHEN YOU ARE MAKING A PHONE CALL!!!.
# IF THE CALL IS MADE OR RECEIVED While WCDMA ONLY IS ENABLED you may experience phone dropouts if in a fringe High Speed data area.
#
# Whenever it is on a network that DOES NOT provide 3G or H data speeds it will automatically kill the Data connection whenever it is attempted.
# It should do a good job to eliminate Roaming charges but there may still be some small charges due to delays when speeds are switched.
# This script works quite well but still has a few bugs due to the Dialup Networking in WM6 being quite flakey and is prone to locking up.
# NO GUARANTEES that it will not keep you from being charged for DATA on the lower speed networks BEWARE!!!!

# It also requires Mortscript to be installed. You will need to set the variables below to point to the install folder
# Place this script in a directory on your WM6 device and create a shortcut in the Startup folder of your PDA

[Script] Wombat's PhoneRoam Script (Stay Connected to High Speed Networks Only)
This is BRILLIANT!! Thankyou so much, there should be some paypal dollars on the way for you mate. Kudos!
seems perfect for me, as I'm on three mobile. I have an HTC Touch HD running Windows Mobile 6.1
I installed VJVolbilis. Then I installed Mortscript. Next, I tried to run wombatphone script which I have on my sd card. Nothing happens. Do I need to do something first?
edit: just realised it is working on the today page. However, quite quickly I get a crash with VJVolbilis causing me to enter my pin again and essentially making my phone stuck
edit2: it appears to also cause scummvm and shell32 to crash (the former is strange as scummvm isn't running)
Just noticed that data still goes out even if roaming if I press 'update now'.
Thanks this is exactly what I needed - will install and see how it goes as I'm heading out to a Three non-service area next week.
Is it possible to get back the standard Operator Logo?
I am back from holidays today so I will look into some of the problems you have been getting.
There is some issues with VJVolbilis as it does sometimes locks up trying to kill the dialup session. Windows Dialup is rather unstable anyway.
Just noticed that data still goes out even if roaming if I press 'update now'.

It will still try to dial but it detects this and should kill the dialup session within a few seconds of it starting. I am looking at doing this a better way maybe with the NODATA program to disable the dialup session all together?

I too have seen this sometimes. I think it is caused if VJVolbilis runs twice and tries to dial at the same time another session is tring to dial. I have done some things to reduce this in this version but it is still there sometimes. I will look at what I can do to improve it.

I will look at adding a menu system in the future that will allow you to set this Operator functions. I have enabled it in this version as it is a beta and I needed to get some feedback on how it is working so left it enabled. In the Meantime You can disable it by commenting out the following lines
Code:
# RegWriteString( "HKLM", "System\State\Phone", "Current Operator Name", WriterString )
Well I tested the script whilst in a non-roaming area (about 70km outside the CBD, I'm also on the Three network in South Australia) and it worked a treat. I was mainly concerned about Push Email which I use for work. I sent myself a test email and the phone did not receive it.
I did, however, get prompted to enter my username and password for Planet3 numerous times (assume this was whenever ActiveSync tried to access the Exchange server).

When I was back with normal metro area, I knew was non-roaming as I had been checking the coverage to see when I went onto roaming, it did not reconnect to Three. I left it a while but still nothing. I had to eventually terminate the script.
I also am running across a problem with VJVolubilis - but this seems only to happen when I soft reset my phone.
I'm now at home which I know is within the Three HSPDA coverage area (as it was previously showing this). However, with the script running again, it's showing "T:OFF". When looking at my Network settings you can see in the top menu bar it's showing the standard HSPDA logo but I'm not sure what "T:OFF" refers to??
*edit*
On a side note I get no sound playing when I do receive an email with your script running.

I will try to work out how to turn on the push email when the data connection is up this should keep the data flowing. When you are in a Roaming State (i.e. in only an E or G area) you wont be able to recieve emails.
This is whole purpose of this script to stop you from getting charged heaps by Tel$tra when roaming. It should however reconnect once you are back in a Three Coverage area and allow you to receive your emails.

I too have seen this as well. Am working on a way to disable the connection altogether when roaming. This should stop the issue with the password prompt comming up.
I have found the registry keys I need to use I am just working on the logic.
I should have another version available in the next few days.

This I also know about. It is caused by the multple disconnections it needs to make to the connection whenever anything trys to connect to the internet. Hopefully the changes I have made to disable the connection altogether should rectify this.

This refers to that it is connected but there is no data networks available. I think this may also be related to the crashing of Windows dialup. Hopefully I should have this reduced in the next version also.

This one puzzles me. I am not using sound at all so there should not be any reason that the sound is effected by my script. I have not seen this as yet here and still get the email received sounds from my device. I will keep an eye out for it. let me know if you narrow down when if it occurs in the next version.
Hey just FYI: Three only uses the Telstra network when "Roaming". When you are in Three Mobile Broadband coverage, it's actually on Three's own infrastructure

#Wombat's PhoneRoam Version 0.8.5
#
# Disclaimer: I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA USAGE OR COSTS INCURRED BY THE USE OF THIS SCRIPT OR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED!!!
# BEWARE THIS SCRIPT ATTEMPTS TO KEEP YOU CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET WHENEVER POSSIBLE. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL DATA COSTS INCURED!!!

# Usage: YOU MUST INSTALL VJVolbilis first. You can get it from http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis
# It also requires Mortscript to be installed. You will need to set the variables below to point to the install folder
# Place this script in a directory on your WM6 device and create a shortcut in the Startup folder of your PDA
# or just place the script in your startup folder
#
# This will cause the phone to automatically connect to the internet whenever a 3G or H data service is available and stay disconnected
# whenever a G or E network is detected.
#
# The Operator Logo will change to the following
#
# e.g.When Connected to a highspeed network 3 I:HSDPA
# When Disconnected and Roaming Roaming D:Edge
#
# Operator Logo (Sometimes will show a Number which is the Signal Strength not sure why?) or U for Unknown at startup

Working great so far, also on Three in Oz. Thankyou! Will wait for my next bill and donate.
At risk of off-topic which radio do you use and what battery life do you get? I use the radio from the latest three rom update (but different rom) and my battery lasts the working day just about
cheers

Hi Russ,
I use a Kaiser TYTN II on Three (Not originally a Three phone) running WM6.1
These phones chew power like no end and i'm lucky if it lasts the whole day. I have to charge it at home and at night. (and that's without using the GPS.) If I use the GPS or the wireless features it actually discharges faster than it charges especially with the GPS running.
As Mentioned in the read-me I cant guarantee that it wont have any roaming charges they just shouldn't be anywhere near what they would have been if you didn't run the script. Keep an eye on it because if the script stops running it may still connect to the lower speeds. I have limited testing abilities here to make it roam (pretty much the only place is the Restroom ) I have tried to think of as much as I can to prevent it but it is Windows so all bets are off!!!
Wombat
Hi All,
To alleviate some of your fears, I will give you my example of my roaning data usage.
The script has saved me heaps.
I will give you my example of my roaming data usage. I use roughly 100MB - 200MB of data most months on Three.
Last month it was $1.77 (around 1mb) of roaming charges last month (December) This was while I was writing the first version of the script and I had been trying to break the script and sometimes did
Many improvements have been made since then.
On the months that I did not have the script prior to this it usually cost me around $50 for the leakage data when it roamed. Then I learned that you can set the phone to stop lower speed data but the downside of this was that there was times that I did not have phone coverage (when out of three network there was no service). That's why I started to write this script.
I am still waiting for this months bill as I have been continuously testing my script (9th Feb) but I believe it still will be very low roaming data usage. Only time will tell and Im hoping for some good feedback from you all so that I can make this a success and save you some money $$$
Regards
Wombat
Sounds good, I got $100 of roaming data over the last few months. My work (UNSW Campus) has patchy reception so I am constantly in and out of 3's 3g network. So far your script is working beautifully when it roams onto Telstra, at least when I am watching or try to manually activesync for example when roaming.
btw I have a diamond, my previous phone was a kaiser and I think it had slightly better battery life than the diamond. Can't wait for the next leap forwards in battery technology, I too am tied to my charger!
Good stuff Russ.
Keep me posted on the performance you are getting.
I suspect that you may get some higher Battery usage by using the script. This is not so much from the script it will be due to the switching of bands/disconnecting etc and the fact that it is using 3G and HSDPA more often (uses more power for these data types). I have mine connected to Active Sync Exchange syncronisation across the net constantly and get quite a few emails over the day. So far i dont see too many issues with my battery life (other than usual this phone sucks the juice anyway)
I hope to hear from more of you on your experiences and improvements you would like to see in this script. Eventually I would like to make it into an APP.
Thanks to all of you for trying this script and hopefully It will save you money.

Wombat
Battery Usage
Hi Russ,
I am posting this PM here for all to see as it addresses some good points.
I really appreciate the feedback from you.
I have decided that it needs to be in the thread as you make some good points.

This is really helpful and something that I need from you all to make this a better application. whether it be good or bad. I hope that the people reading the comments wont be too put off by any criticism of the script and will keep in mind that it is still an early Beta version and is not yet finished by any means.
I need more of you to try it out and give me your feedback as this will help me to improve it and add the features that are most wanted and iron out any bugs that I am sure it will have some.

It seems to be hammering my battery today, task manager (dotfred) shows mortscript processor use at 25-70% all the time! I am in a roaming zone with weak signal (basement).

I have not yet had the time to address battery usage properly. As my phone is a heavy usage device as it is I havent really noticed the extra usage of it. (or cared that much at this stage) I have been more concerned at the moment with getting it working properly than battery life. I will definitely look at it to see where I can improve on it in this next version I am writing at the moment. Are you able to try the suggestion below and let me know if the cause of the CPU usage is due to the network scan it does every 40 seconds when in roaming? if so this should be improved by setting it to 240 seconds or more.
I have installed this task manager on my phone now and I am looking at what is using the extra power. I suspect it may have allot to do with the new features that I added to keep the phone online whilst it was roaming.. I had changed quite a bit around in the latest version 0.8.5.
I am wondering if you are getting this same problem if you run the older version? 0.8? that may give me something to work off.
bigruss said:
Can I
1) run a script (don't know how to write) to run manually that will terminate your phoneroam script and deactivate the data connection. I could then use this when I am in the basement (no chance of 3g signal) and run your normal script when I am not? I could possibly automate this with phonealarm depending on cellid I guess.

Well hopefully you wont need to disable my script (thats my intention anyway) I just need to address the cpu usage for the next version.(see improvement below) Unfortunately with Windows Mobile it doesn't seem to be anyway to actually disable the auto dialing features easily. I am learning new things about it daily and have asked this same question on other forums on here but I have not gotten a answer on how to actually achieve it.
The NoData program seems to do this but I haven't yet worked out all of the things that need to be done to prevent it from connecting I am trying to avoid using third party programs if I can help it but had to succome to Vjvobilis as it was quite reliable at killing the connection. I am still working on this one I have added some things but still needs more work.
bigruss said:
2) adjust the frequency that this script runs at, maybe so it checks the connection status every 10 minutes, I would rather 'lose' ten minutes of possible 3g connection than have my battery go.
Click to collapse
I have most of those variables built into the script already however I have them quite low at the moment so that I can test more thoroughly I will look at what I can do to improve this in the next version. This is possibly the reason you are getting such a high CPU usage.
I also will be adding a configuration menus into it later in order to allow tweaking of the settings but this may still be a little while off.
bigruss said:
The problem may be the weak signal, as I posted yesterday it seemed to be working great, then I was mostly in 3g reception and occasionally it would move to roaming. Or could be that I am roaming all day and it keeps searching every minute or so if there is a 3g connection available.

This definately appears to be where I may have not set the variables high enough. if you change the following variable in the script
Code:
;Number of seconds before it will check if WCDMA network is available
RescanTime=240
you can set the time it will wait to do a scan of the networks 240 will make it check every 4 minutes easy fixed.
As for putting the discussions in the main forum I probably prefer it as it keeps the thread near to top on the front page. This forum is very busy and threads get burried very quickly on here so the more comments we get in this thread the more people will see and use the script and comment on it and the better it will become.
So people give it a try and give me some feedback on what you like, Dislike or want improved. I will try to do what I can to help
hope This helped you Russ
cheers
Wombat
Will try you suggestion and let you know in the thread, though I may not be back into dodgy reception areas for a week or so. In the meantime I have been trying to use phonealarm, and it does deactivate the data connection quite nicely but it doesn't always switch to my 'roaming' profile when roaming and so I still get some data transfer. You could try phonealarm, backup the registry with the 'data connection active' (wincereg I think is the name of the registry software), change the data connection to inactive and backup the reg again then compare to see what the change did?
Just had a quick go. I am in good HSPDA reception area, the connection is staying active and there is no flipping to roaming at all. The 0.8 script gives me 8% mortscript CPU usage constantly, The 0.8.5 script gives me 40-50% mortscript CPU usage.
I usually disconnect the data connection after 1 minute inactive to save battery. Is there a way to allow this in the script? So the script is only called if an application attempts to make a data connection, then if there is 3g the connection is allowed but if there is only roaming then the connection is killed? Maybe then the script can just be called and doesn't have to run constantly?
btw I'm not daft but I am not a programmer either so forgive me for impossible/useless suggestions :-D

I haven't looked at that as I need a nailed up connection most of the time I will look into this soon.
From your previous post I have determined where the issue is with the high CPU usage it seems that Mortscript has a tendency to hog cpu when doing checks for tasks and active window checking. I have improved it quite a bit by re-adding the sleep statement near the beginning of the script (under the first while statement) This brings it back to the 10% but it slows it down quite a lot and the timings are out. I will need to look further into this. I have my next version almost written and it will have a major rewrite of some of the routines. Once I have finished testing I will release it. If you want to improve the latest version uncomment the sleep statement under the while. That should reduce the CPU allot.
Code:
While (Initialized = 1)
Sleep (1000)
Hi wornbat,
Does this work only when we are in roaming..... can we make use of it when we are in home network.

Network and GPS Functionality Vanished

Hi all,
I flashed my phone, and thought I’d go with Darky's Raw Steel Edition (4.1), which is awesome btw. I installed it correctly, installing I9000XWJM8 first (the MODEM and PDA, not CSC as none seemed to come in the package).
Everything was working smoothly until I realise 3G/Data Network is no longer working (it did previously). Not only that but it seems it won’t connect to my service provider (Three) at all (emergency calls only), and I’ve also now noticed GPS doesn’t seem to work at all, I can’t even get into GPS test mode. Wireless does however work though it being off, or on, has no impact.
I’ve tried:
Flashing different firmware - Stock JM8 and Doc Froyo’s latest JPO.
Hard Reset
Deleting and re-entering APN settings, though they were correct and already on the phone anyway.
Testing my SIM on another phone – signal is strong, inc. 3G on that.
I’m really at a loss here. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
UPDATE: So, I won't bump this myself, but incase anyone finds this thread in the future: the gprs, gps, 3g, etc all work - just not in my house, on the SGS, anymore. I have no idea why - my other phone, it's fine.. and it used to be fine with this phone too. I'll update again if I figure it out.
the other phone works fine with the same sim you are using in the SGS?
Yep, the same SIM works in my old Nokia 6600 fold, people in my house also with Three are getting solid reception right now. 4-5 bars with 3g established.
It worked beautifully all the way home from work on the bus, just not in/around my house.
It's as if the local cell towers near my house have blocked my SGS specifically (can't receive calls or texts either). I did turn the wireless on and off in short succession (which would cause the gprs/3g to try to re-establish each time).. maybe I flooded them and they blocked my IMEI? Or is that just a ridiculous idea?
The real odd thing is GPS not working either (again, just around my house/street); surely it doesn't need a cell site for that?
It does seem as if I can't download apps from The Market anymore either, and have tried various cache clearing solutions to fix it (problem occurred roughly when I noticed my reception was nill).
You might have a problem with the band selection thing of your phone.. have you tried downloading/speed test when you /do/ get a connection? If it seems capped at 40kbps, you might have the same problem I experienced before, of being stuck on 2g. (Despite settings saying otherwise).
I fixed it by doing the solution to having a missing 850 band, the thread of which is found somewhere in this forum.
Thanks. That sort of worked earlier.
It made a slow data connection, and some texts came through.
I then went out to a location a few miles away, had a look and it was still on a slow connection type for a few mins, then all of a sudden it went to HSPDA (with the occasional 3G flicker) and was blistering fast.
Now that I'm back home, I've lost all reception again and can't make/take calls
[EDIT] Clicking around my phone in the hopes of finding something: checked product code in my nv_data.bin file with SGS Toolbox, and it's showing I9000HKDKOR; whilst the backup is showing I9000HKDH3G - could I be on to something? I backed up my efs folder after rooting before doing anything else - so, going to try restoring that.
I have a hunch based on a 2 year old post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445913).
From what I understand, Three UK piggy back on Orange's network when Three's 3G cell towers are out of reach. Orange don't provide Three users with the full service though, just 2G and I'm guessing they prioritise Orange customer traffic.
I think when I flashed my phone, I removed code commanding the phone to prefer Three cell towers. Without that code, the phone simply goes to the strongest/first signal it detects. I'm guessing in the area near where I live, it's Orange (or maybe any old network which is why I'm often getting Emergency Calls only).
This is all guesswork. I'm hopeful, seeing as if I quickly switch the SIM to my two+ year old phone, then I quickly get 5 bars and 3G.. unless the SGS's signal issues really are *that* bad.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831022
Try see if you have the symptom of a missing band?
Hi Nwsk, I tried that before and assumed it didn't work, but actually the change isn't sticking. Which seems to be the case for a couple of others! Thanks for pointing me back to it!
[Edit]
Ohhhh dear. Now I have another theory (I really hope I'm wrong).
I've just read on a thread that some phones don't have the 850 Band, it's down to a lack of hardware support. I'd wager every Three UK branded phone sold will have the correct hardware as stock. I sent my phone back to Samsung for repair, they said they replaced the motherboard.. inference: they replaced it with one without the WCDMA 850 support.
Hmm, I'm definitely no authority on this, since I'm just guessing.. but I figure if that if was a true hardware defect, you wouldn't even be able to get it temporarily?
Are you using any 'battery-saving' type apps? Something might be messing up and keep reverting the settings. I had this occur to me a second time when I was trying out the superpower app here, I think it conflicted with another app I was using, and it borked out my network connectivity. Somehow fixed that after a few reboots, and lots of messing around in the phone debug menu with the 3g/2g thing, it suddenly worked again.
I've not seen it manage to get onto 850MHz WCDMA in my house for a while, not since the mobo got replaced (I should qualify that with a statement on my bad memory ). It will occasionally latch onto something if I walk around the house, giving me a slow data connection with the G symbol showing - it will drop pretty quickly.
Messing around while I write this, I've just realised if I set my phone to GSM(2G) with roaming [Three UK phones need this on so they can connect to Orange towers], then it does establish a data connection at 1800mhz. If I force WCDMA only, I get NOTHING. Setting both/auto leads to it being dodgy/instable, as I've discribed above.
My Nokia 6600 supports 850mhz UMTS, which would explain why it's working well inside my house.
I don't think it's an app. I've flashed a few different firmwares in an effort to get this fixed, it's currently on official Froyo JPO (not even rooted!) with Multi-CSC and a few completely harmless apps. I'd try the stock Three firmware if it was available somewhere.
I'm hoping it's software like you suggest! I will tinker away for now!
Thanks for all the help, at least now I'm fairly sure I'm on the right track!

Location services don't work?

I remember why I sold my original Optimus 7 now, I bought a new one yesterday as it was on offer, but for the life of me I can't get location services to work, my iPhone instantly find me, this phone just sits searching and gives and error it can't find me. It seems to be using GPS which when in doors isn't going to find me, it doesn't seem to use WiFi or Cell Towers. Outside its hit and miss if it finds me. I'd say it was a dodgy phone if the original phone I had didn't have the same problems.
Anyone any ideas? Its not that the location is off a bit, it just simply can't find me via wifi or cell
Vodafone's Optimus 7 firmware is broken - I worked out this works:

Thanks
Thanks for this, Going to flash a generic European ROM and see what happens
Not working for me.
LG E900 Vodafone
I flashed the unbranded European ROM and they still don't work. I am thinking it a bug with all E900 phones.
Tried Nokia maps and it found me instantly in the house, The Weather Channel also found me instantly, so I think it all comes down to the app.

[Q] Lost 3G network connectivity after froyo upgrade

Hi everyone,
First I'd like to thank those fearless tinkerers that produced (and explained the how-to) the Froyo upgrades for the Huawei s7-104.
I actually bought the device only AFTER downloading the Indonesian upgrade (that was-and still is-the extension of my faith in you).
The process worked like a charm and I successfully checked and confirmed that the new version matched the claimed upgrade.
I later managed to root the device and now even enjoy a longer battery life thanks to CPU Master set on "on demand".
The only problems I encountered were:
- Sometimes the screen orientation gets stuck in horizontal or vertical and the device needs to be rebooted to unlock the orientation. This is minor and doesn't bother me that much.
-I have lost 3G connectivity and neither the carrier nor a mobile lab has managed to get a shred of data into the device with anything but WiFi.
The Network pane says that it's connected and should receive data.
The APN settings should now be reviewed and corrected since I brought the device to the carrier's office and, after their failure to fix the problem, to the lab (they told me they did anyway).
The SIM was then taken out and connected into another device. It received data merrily, proving satisfactorily (at least to the C.Y.A. carrier) that they could not help me further.
Everything else works beautifully, phone, WiFi, GPS, everything...
Any idea? I live in Mexico and the carrier is Movistar.
Thank you in advance.
Thimage
screen orientation quick fix
can't comment on the 3G problem din really face it
you can try flashing to another rom
Zmey Mod from Belarus! would be a good choice
for screen orientation just install shake n rotate from the market
it's just a quick fix which can settle the problem
Thanks for the shake'n rotate tip! I'll try it!
Never heard of the zmey mod from Belarus. Is it in english or in local lenguage? I'll try to find it anyway.
Anybody out there who's actually had the same network connectivity problem that I've had? Can't be the only one right?
Thanks again,
Thimage
Connectivity recovered
I finally recovered connectivity by looking for the right APN on the web and I found it here:
decibel-elektrobeat.blogspot.com/2011/04/3g-de-movistar-configurado-en-xperia.html
The reason why it didn't work before is because for some reason it is not enough to correct the APN after flashing the Rom. You have to delete it and create a new one.
It works fine now.
Thanks. T
