I had my shiny new Axon 7 for less than 24 hours when I left for vacation with my family. We were at a lake with a fishing pier when my 2 year old nephew took a spill off the pier. I jumped in after him, and all is well with him. But my phone was in my pocket. I immediately put it in rice and didn't touch it for 2 days.
When I took it out, it was completely dead. Thinking that maybe the battery just died, I charged it, but nothing. Then , later that night, it stated making sounds for notifications (must have been hooked up to wifi). It became obvious that the phone was on and working, but the screen was dead.
The next day, the screen came back to life and everything looked normal.
So I put my SIM card in, but it doesn't pick up a signal. The phone definitely recognizes the card, but nothing happens. I switched it to the second SIM tray, but the same thing. The signal bar on top is just a blank triangle. I even tried a second SIM card from my work phone just in case.
Any suggestions or am I toast?

The A2017G has one 'liquid damage repair' withon 2 years with the VIP warranty thing. If you send the phone though, be prepared to be 2+ weeks without it (at least two months ago they didn't have replacement parts/phones, so they left everyone waiting for a lot of time), but you might as well have luck. If you have an a2017U i don't know.
You probably have some water on the SIM tray slot though. Get the tray off and leave it one more night on rice, maybe it solves itself
U need to do a ultrasonic clean. Al connector must be cleaned with gasoline and u need to check every component for oxidation even under heat shields.

Thanks - I believe I have the a2017U, which I understand is the US version. I'll give the warranty suggestion a try as I've got nothing to lose.

I am a local cellphone repair shop that's why i was telling the procedure to help. I repaired couple of water damaged devices. U can do it without ultrasonic cleaner but u need medicinal gasoline that is a must and toothbrush. U need to clean whole motherboard without heat shields and u need to clean all connectors. U need to check shortage as well
Just chatted with customer service. The Passport 2.0 coverage covers water damage, but need to pay $80 deductible. Fine with me! Only problem is that I am not the original owner (bough it on Swappa) and the warranty is not transferable. I've got a message into the original owner to see if he'll help me out. Fingers crossed!
Was able to track down the original owner - great guy. We called ZTE together and was able to file a warranty claim. I paid $85 and they're sending me a new phone.
All good!

I've had my myTouch for about a month now and have been lurking around the forums for about the same amount of time. With adequate research, I've been able to successfully root, install and run my phone with Maxismo's HERO rom. Successfully meaning have done all that can be with a 4GB class 2 SDHC.
Now to the title. Yesterday morning after a quick McDonalds run, a friend and I decided to post and enjoy our 600 calorie breakfast in the car while I had Pandora running on my Magic through the car audio jack. To no surprise, friend decides that it is a good idea to slide my phone off the armrest, onto the cupholder where a half-filled cup of McD's orange juice parked itself with no cover.. I blame the lady at the drive-thru for not giving us straws. It was in there for a good 5 seconds.
A **** load of used Kleenex's later, I examined the phone and found that the water-damage indicator was still solid white. Aside from the apparent stickier feel, everything seemed fine.. Until I got home. A couple hours later, I reached for my phone to find that it was vibrating. No call, no vmail, not even a text from homegirl to see how my phone was doing. I had tried all the "phone-drying" methods, from Dust-Off to submerging your phone into a bowl of uncooked rice and I still sit here writing this, with my month-old myTouch dancing around my desk like it was happy to see me.
My first question is, has anybody encountered such a problem? If so, has anyone devised a way to remedy this? Second, I have PHP through T-Mobile (phone insurance for those overseas).. Should I just un-root, suck it up and pay the $130 deductible?
I met up with homegirl later on that night and yes, she was happily myTouched.
I shall await replies if any. Thanks for reading.
does the phone still work besides that. cuz if you are going to pay the deductible, i say just report it stolen and pay the fee to get a new one and use the water damaged one as a back up to flash test roms. the only reason you would unroot it and return it is if you are going through warranty, but it would fail, because though the indicator is still white, they open it up and check for water damage there, so you would still have to pay an out of warranty fee, which is like 400 when I had to return my mytouch for warranty purposes.
Just out of curiosity, where is the water indicator?
Also you should leave the phone submerged (cover off and battery off) in rice or packs of silica if you kept those from packaging of electronics for about 2 days. The longer the better. Then see if the phone still works.

Water level indicator is on the lower right hand corner of the battery compartment. It's a round white sticker.
Phone was left (battery and cover off) in a bowl of rice as I mentioned in my post. I think it's the dried up sugar stuck on the board that's causing the phone to act up.. Gives a whole new meaning to "sweet phone".

Phone is still running fine aside from being stuck on vibrate.. The volume button seems to be the only other that's acting up but it's sporadic. If I do end up keeping the phone I'll open it up and have a look-see. I imagine it isn't gonna be a walk in the park like my N95.
Good point on the warranty, my friend who works for T-Mobile said I could return it at her store though.. Will they crack it open later on and possibly bill me?
Thanks for the input.

they send it to their return center and there they open it up. it happened to me on my sidekick. My trackball on it wasn't working so i returned it to warranty. They billed me 3 months later because they said it was an out of warranty product because they found water damage on the inside of the phone and the water damage indicator was still white. I didn't even know that it had water damage when I returned it. It must have gotten water in it when my hands were wet or when I had it in the rain.
Have you tried to turn off the vibrate feature from the settings to see if that turned off the vibrations?
All stickied up is what your volume button is. That is why it is vibrating and why the volume is acting up. The trick would be to get the sticky orange juice out from under your volume rocker. My menu button was sticking so I used a tiny piece of paper to stick in the very tiny gap between button and phone, maybe you will be able to dislodge the sticky stuff. Its a thought.
But insurance wise I think I'd say I lost it at Mcdonalds (snicker).

ROFLMAO!
I agree. Keep the phone and report it stolen.
Had the same thing happen with cranberry and vodka. pull the battery. Get the assembly manual off of the forum. Dissasemble and clean any and all boards with 90% isoproyl alcohol and a childs soft bristle tooth brush. Do not blow on the boards to dry them as condensation can occur. Just use a fan at room temperature. Make sure you don't get a bunch of alcohol in places it won't come out of (speakers, Microphones, any type of button, USE COMMON SENSE), and only use as much as absolutely necesary. I did mine about 24 hours after it happened and it is still working 3 months later. Sugar will kill it eventualy if left inside so it needs to come out. I have had not one single issue since iI cleaned mine. BE VERY GENTLE. There are a total of FOUR liquid indicators on the unit. One in the battery compartment, and two you cant see, and yet another behind the tab for holding a lanyard. If you need better instructions shoot me an e-mail. [email protected]

UPDATE: The phone is magically fixed!
Hey guys!
So i was at a party 2 nights ago, and I lost my S2. I finally found it in the morning, it had been outside all night, and then I realised that it had been raining heavily.
I took the battery, sim card and micro sd card out and placed the phone somewhere warm and let it dry for about a day and a half. I plugged it in earlier, and it started charging fine, and then I turned the phone on.
It booted up. The hardware buttons are working fine, and the touch buttons below the screen also work, but the screen is completely unresponsive
EDIT: Just as I posted this, i got signal, so only problem i can see is the touch-screen
Is there anything I can do, or is this phone screwed?
I cant remember if I have Vodafone's insurance or not, I'm praying to god I do :/
Put it in a bag of rice and let it dry out even more

I was gonna say.... put it in rice. Should dry up faster
Had good result with silicate packets (the little bags in shoeboxes and many electrical goods) and rice. But let everything dry for days and don't reassemble - left my old PMP for 5 days after a toilet swim, still working. Smells great too. Honest.
Thanks for the replies guys. I've now put the phone in a bag of rice so I guess I just have to wait and see.
Lol keep us updated!
The problem could by the fact that the digitizer on capacitive screens are very sensitive, it sounds as if that may have been damaged.l I would think that the only thing you can do is to replace the touch screen, because it is gorilla glass and the fact the entire phone would need dismantling, If it isn't insured I would expect it wouldn't be cheap to get replaced. But you should be thankful that you entire phone didn't die, I mean you were quite lucky there. I broke my old hero by leaving it out side for 5-10 min whilst it was raining.
Bad news guys, its still not working.
Cant believe I let this happen, I need some trousers with tighter pockets for this damn phone! (and perhaps not carry it with me when I'm drinking haha)
Luckily its covered under my home insurance.
Do I get a new one or get it repaired?
Edit: Its also bloody ironic that I had just put a pattern unlock screen on my phone, so now I cant back up the contents because its locked! Is there any way to get round this? Or external ways to control the phone so I can get into it?
Cheers
There's insurance that covers phone water damage?
Hazlynch, you really need to keep it much, much longer than one day in the rice.
Trust me, apart from my aforementioned toilet episode, I've also lost phones and PMPs in the snow - all have worked again, but the shortest dessicating time was 3 days.
One day is simply not enough - not saying 100% it'll work after 5 days, but 100% certain it won't after one.
For the record, lost my Cowon S9 (OLED touchscreen) in a snowdrift - 5 days dessicating and worked - still going strong.
Ah right thanks for that info! From what I heard about the digitizer being sensitive I'm not very hopeful, but it wont harm to leave it in the rice longer.
I wasn't with my S9 either, but it surprised me, especially also being a touchscreen device too.
Remember to disassemble as much as you can from the phone - all cards and battery out but also in the box/bag - you need to expose as much surface area as possible of the device to the dessicant.
Try my silicate bag tip posted earlier too!
Let us know wha'ppen?
Ready to give it a try? How's it looking/feeling?
I managed to find some silica packets like you said so I put them in with the rice.
Just turned it on, but still no touchscreen responce

Shame - not optimistic.. A couple more days won't hurt if you have the patience!
Yeah, I wont be able to get anything done about the insurance stuff for a few days anyway, so I'll leave it in there for longer. Starting to miss it now! Haha.
Oh and thanks again for everyone's help on this!
My situation has taken an unexpected turn... Went into vodafone a couple of weeks ago and explained that the touchscreen had stopped working.
They tried to factory reset and do other things to fix it to no avail, so they sent it off to their repair centre to fix.
I received it back today, with a letter which stated that it was thoroughly tested and inspected, and that they found that the fault had been caused by water damage. They explained that water damage falls outside of the manufacturers warranty and they could not repair it.
They also sent a picture which helped to show the extent of the corrosion, which looked a bit nasty.
I turned on the phone anyway when i recieved it, and to my great surprise... it is working - apparently flawlessly.
So it is a happy ending - and has proved to me how badass this phone is

This has me worried haha. My SGS2 has recently took a bit of a bath as well. The phone worked perfectly fine after sitting off overnight drying out. However after about 3 days it started random hang up and shut offs. I sent it in to a repair center a week ago and i am just hoping for the best. I dont have high hopes that they will replace it as it was water damage but i suppose its worth a shot for a $600 phone.
If they dont replace/repair it i will be taking it apart and cleaning it in hopes that i can make it work.
Here is my old sgs2 after a dip in the ocean. No insurance either. What you guys think?

I walked into the ocean (salt) water with my phone about 4 days ago.
I know, I know. Believe me, I've called myself many names along the line of stupid already.
I've been searching the net for any tips or ideas on what I should do.
Situation:
It was submerged in water for about 10 seconds.
Then removed, removed battery and left it to dry in the summer heat. (I was at a beach far away with no rice or silicon nearby).
24 hrs later I inserted my wife's S4 battery into the device and the light indicator began lighting up several colors unsteadily. Mostly Red.
I removed the battery without attempting to turn on the phone, since this was not normal behavior.
2 days later, once I had access to a bag of rice, I put the phone in rice and have left it there since. I tried this morning (after 24 hrs in rice) and the indicator light turns on still, a steady red light.
I'm thinking the phone wont magically work again. But perhaps it might still be worth having a cell phone repair guy have a try.
Anyone know what the red light indicator light means?
Im thinking the phone's main components that would be possibly permanently damaged are:
- screen
- memory
- cpu
- motherboard
Any advice on the matter would be appreciated.
Im crossing my fingers I dont have to spend 600$ for a new phone.

Not a lot can be done for it unless you were exceptionally lucky. Energized circuits don't take kindly to water dispersing their energy into every other circuit in the phone. Often even after placing a phone in rice or silica immediately afterwards still results in a crappy phone eventually. Like the fella said, use that insurance.

When you guys mention "use your insurance" do you mean home insurance?
Use whatever insurance you have. Most people I've talked to on here got something through square trade or best buy, maybe you used a credit card that gives you a warranty for 90 days, maybe you can use home insurance. It depends on your policy. I personally always buy insurance on a new phone (used to get the crappy att insurance, now I have the square trade one with only 100 dollar deductible, but no loss or theft included). It's up to you whether it's worth it, if you can afford to part with 600 bucks in the event of an emergency, may not be worth it to you to pay extra for insurance.

I have successfully repaired water damage on my handset. When I took apart my S2 last year I followed a YouTube tutorial to get it all apart and back together. Here is an excellent link for your S4:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm4f2XjQLAM
I expect you will find lots of white powder type of deposits. All I did was carry all the little pieces and circuit boards to the sink and used a toothbrush under the running tap water and scrubbed it all clean. Then I submerged all the pieces and parts in rice over night. It started working again when I put it all back together the next day.
You should have let it dry a week at least

Somebody pls help me
my galaxy note 3 was water damaged nearly an year ago. But i was able to recover at that time by using isopropanol(99%).
In Detail: After water damage i loosed all hope for around 2 days, then outtanowhere i got this solution over the internet and then i submerged my phone's green board into that alcohol and then in rice. Unfortunately it doesn't turned on. I kept putting my phone outside under sun light, still the display wasn't working. Then i left my phone for about 1 and a 1/2 month in my cupboard abandoned....It got fully recovered!!! i was living a happy life then.
:Main Problem:Now in today's date i was feeling something is wrong in the phone because it was discharging these days too quick(abnormally and this things were happening after recovery too). So i decided to put the whole phone(deassembaled the green board) in the isopropyle(99%). after 30mins later i picked it up back and assembled every thing back turned on the phone and guess what the screen was black again. I putted the phone under sunlight again but case got even worse (but i think it is good both) at the same time. My note 3's screen is turning on and working but inplace of black screen its showing dark smudges or a quit a bit of screen(not cleared but seen-able) like some kind of weird shape/spots of black. Now HELP ME
Tell me what to do!! i don't know what is this happening because 99% isopropanol isn't that conductive and will not harm the phone whatever the case is.
What should i do to get all the things back at the track? should i submerge the phone again in alcohol or should i leave it for now.
*i hope somebody read this, waiting for reply and help*
BTW: i'll keep updating this thread if something happens
Whats the 1% ?? Water ??
When a phone gets wet, I never recommend dunking anything in alcohol or any other liquid, especially the screen. Sounds like the alcohol may have seeped in between the glass and LCD.
Update:
So after putting it under sunlight for 2 days. My phone's screen is completly BLACK.
just a tiny part was showing lighted up but that also gone after about 15mins.
What the heck should i do now. I removed the battery now and putted the phone in the cupboard again (hoping for a miracle).
Any help will be appreciated.

You made a huge mistake by placing the phone in alcohol. You should only submerge the motherboard. It seems like you have alcohol/some water inside the display assembly now.
Use a hairdryer to completely dry the motherboard, place the display/ rest of the phone in rice and give it 3 days or so.
Should work.
PS: You may have killed it by turning it on while it had the spots on the display, i.e.. caused a short.
Good luck.

It takes effort to accept that the best thing to do is just to get a new phone. I remember when I wanted to stick to my old, microUSB-port damaged Galaxy S II but I had to accept that I needed to move on.
I know sometimes it's difficult ($$$) but yeah, save some money up and you'll see that this will be just a small episode in your history of smart phones.

maybe.....
but seriously it maybe any kind of impurity but i'm sure it is not water.
I would suggest to buy a new phone. You could TRY changing the screen, but there is no guarantee that the screen is the only issue. + a used Note 3 is almost the same price as a new screen.
Sorry that the method I suggested did not work. :/
Since this didn't work, you probably fried the screen driver when you turned it when it was filled with liquid under the display.
Change the display or the phone.
Never, ever attempt to turn on a liquid damaged device. I know it's tempting. This is an expensive lesson!

You dont need to say sorry bro.
Well from all the experience i gain from this incident and including my experience with isopropyle alcohols, i don't know definitely what happen but i can guess what may be going on there.
So, in recent months a previous phone (not my phone) was water damaged and the owner gave it to me as a last hope lol. I 100% submerged that phone in isopropyl for 3days!! lmao and as a result the phone's some part like speaker and screen (which are stacked by an adhesive) were floating in the solution and then i picked up that phone up and situation got even worse the phone's screen was a bit hanging i turned the phone on and the screen was working perfectly but as i said the phone's screen was hanging so it was not touching fully the digitizer and hence the touch was not working but the screen was turned on i dunno why.
Now i look at my phone which screen was just dipped about 15mins and still not able to show anything. I think the cause may be a part between the screen and the phone which might be displaced by that solution.
Now i ask you guys that should i remove the screen only by heating & removing and stick it again. Will this solve the problem? any advice?
My touch screen is not working properly and even though the phone shows charging when the charger is connected, it does not go ahead of 0% ! I haven't visited the service center yet and I have used the hair dryer for the water, but still not woking!
Would like some suggestions from you all as to what should I do?

Never use hair dryer on a phone fallen in water. Immediately after your phone fallen in water you must do your phone in a bag with rice for 48h. I think at this moment and after your hair dryer it's too late.
Well if I get chosen for the Samsung Insights thing this week I will send you my old Moto X
Use a vaccum cleaner to suck water out from all open ports.
Vacuum cleaner can static blast it. Best bet is rice or vacuum chamber.

Lets see what i can do from my side, i will be opening it and check for any water still in it, but for the whole night, it will stay again in rice.
Thanks for the suggestion

Okay! Thanks
Well... haha. I had a similar situation a few weeks back. I jumped in the pool with my phone in my pocket and realized immeadiatly and threw it on a towl. So I'd say mine was underwater about 3 feet deep for a solid 3-5 seconds. Phone still worked thankfully but since it was 1am I didn't have access to rice being on vacation. I did put the hair dryer on "cool" for about 5 mins and seemed to dry it out pretty good minus water mark on LCD which went away the next day. The next morning, the speakers didn't work as well as vibration so i decided to restart and it never was able to boot back to any OS (custom or STOCK). Long story short... I was still able to manipulate the phone with fastboot/adb. (THANK GOD) but thats it. No boot.
- My phone warranty expires in Sept.... My bootloader was unlocked.
- Re-locked bootloader, flashed the latest stock release with fastboot and FLASHED THE LOGO COVERING THE WARRANTY/UNLOCKED SCREEN WARNING. I think this last part saved my ass because I RMAed my phone and they sent me a brand new one within a week of this all happening. The bootloader will show LOCKED and status of 2 which means it was relocked but that didn't hinder my warranty claim.
Worse case, if you're still under warranty, relock the bootloader and flash the lastest stock as well as the logo removing the unlock warning and they should cover it no problem. They did in my case at least.

I believe I got picked, just waiting on the phone. I am not sure if I can ship to Mumbai though. It is a 16 Gb version too
