Hi,
I will buy tomorrow a Galaxy S8 SM-G950F and I want to modify some part of my bootloader image after I discovered an interesting thing in it.
Is it possible or there is some hardware protection to avoid us to flash a custom bootloader with odin? (I don't talk about knox warranty bit)
Also, since it's mostly reverse engineering and I will modify opcodes, if I flash a corrupted bootloader, is it still possible to go to download mode and flash another one again? My initial guess would be yes, since in the past, with my s6 edge, s4 and s2, when the flash froze at flashing the bootloader, I always successfully flashed it again.
Thanks,

i have galaxy s4 i9505 and i want to know if i need to unlock the bootloader in order to instal custom rom(cyanogen).the phone is in stock condition(not rooted no roms or anything)ive checked the first 10 pages of google results and some guides say i if i dont unlock the bootloader i will brick the phone and some say i dont need to unlock it.i searched this forum aswell but i just end up with 100 tabs open and still cant find my answer.
The only thing you need to do is this. Install TWRP using Odin, then flash your ROM using TWRP. The only mention of locked bootloaders comes if you own an AT&T or Verizon Galaxy S4. Those two models have a locked bootloader that cannot be unlocked, and attempts to change the bootloader on those devices have led to soft bricks which can be resolved by flashing the correct bootloader in the BL slot in Odin.
Yet another post... So, I have been trying to install TWRP and CWM but every time I boot into recovery with those installed I get: "System Software not Authorized" error. Is there anyway to bypass this? I think I Soft Bricked it, but I fixed it with Odin and a stock recovery file. I just want to get a custom recovery... Any help is appreciated.

Can't install cwm or twrp on an s4 with a locked bootloader.
Hmm that is strange.

How would I go about unlocking it? I remember before the s4 got the 5.0.1 update and I had cwm.
The att s4 bootloader can't be unlocked once it has been upgraded to a locked bootloader.
That sucks. Is there another phone that can unlock it's boot loader? I head something about asking the company to unlock it for you. Is that possible?
Quick little update:
I have found some options that might work. Option 1: Someone said that you could downgrade to 4.2.2 because that has an unlocked boot loader. Or option 2, which is go to Best Buy and tell the Samsung Support Center dude to unlock it for you. I really would rather go with option one, because what if the dude denies it. Unless, because I already got the locked one on my device, there is no way to downgrade it...
There is no way to downgrade the bootloader to 4.2.2 or to unlock the bootloader.
Right, well I installed Safestrap and updated to 5.0.1 with keep root method. Something I just realized is that we have a s2 laying around somewhere. I guess I can mess with that. And as for a new phone, I guess I will save up to buy a Nexus 6 from the Google site.
This may be a noobish question, and if so I apologize, but searching didn't come back with anything concrete.
I have an S7 Edge, the Exynos version, which I have rooted via Chainfire's autoroot. I have NOT installed TWRP or any other custom recovery.
Do I need to leave OEM unlock enabled, or can I safely disable it again without soft-bricking the phone? I gather from my search that having a custom recovery installed and disabling OEM unlock will cause a "soft brick", but will the same occur with only the root in place?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
While I'm not sure, I don't know why you would want to disable it back. Is there any specific reason?
Since you still are running stock rooted firmware I believe it won't softbrick, but at the same time you are running a modified system (since you rooted), so I wouldn't risk - there's a "software status tag" which says if it's modified or not, when you unlock root access with Chainfire method it will trip Knox and put modified on the tag.
All the best,

I would like to install a custom rom on a samsung galaxy s4 gt i9505 with android 5.0.1, is there some help to unlock the bootloader? Do the root and then install a miui rom?
First root your device with the proper root file by using Odin (you need a computer to install and use Odin program) then install TWRP that will help you install any room you want (.zip) directly from your phone.
Most S4 have an unlocked bootloader. Unless you're American, then it's locked most probably and can't be unlocked.
Ok but in odin mode says "Write Protection: Enabled".... It's normal?

The only s4 with a locked bootloader is the AT&T and Verizon versions.
The i9505 doesn't have a locked bootloader and was never carried by any north American carriers.
Yes, it's normal.
No need to root before flashing twrp and a custom ROM.
Hi guys,
It is October 2017 now and I can still read all over the net that only very few models of the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 (Jfltexx) – and those only in the States - have a locked bootloader.
I was advised to update to the newest available firmware before flashing and find myself now at stock Android 5.0.1 (Bootloader: I9505XXUHPK2, Firmware: LRX22C.I9505XXUHPK2, Knox Warranty Void 0x1). I tried to install TWRP according to https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/jfltexx/install and it doesn’t matter whether I use Odin or Heimdall, switch off antivirus and the firewall, nothing works. It *looks* as if it does, but it is impossible to boot into the recovery.
The phone, being second hand, is out of warranty anyway. I don’t care if I wipe all my data, but I don’t like the idea of an unrecoverable brick.
I did download “cfar_samsung_gt-i9505_jfltexx_lrx22c.i9505xxuhpk2_t0.zip” from https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:63/firmware:5743 but I am wary of Chainfire’s admonition on https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device...are:5743/cfar?
”BOOTLOADER UNLOCK: If your bootloader is not unlocked, depending on the device, it may be automatically unlocked (wiping all data), flashing may fail, or the device may brick altogether.”
I would very much like to run Lineage OS on my phone. Does any one have an idea on how to proceed from here without incurring *too much* risk?
Greetings from Flensburg, Germany.

Here's what I recommend:
download Odin 3.07: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=...tid=1168421&usg=AOvVaw0aq_x8M8nbsqDFAFe9tFoy;
download the tar version of TWRP for gt-i9505: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltexx/;
open Odin 3.07 and put TWRP tar file in PDA slot;
uncheck everything in Odin except f reset time;
flash TWRP. When you see the word reset in the status window, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, replace the battery, use the phone buttons to boot into recovery.
Do NOT run any program that tries to unlock the bootloader as these programs can hard-brick the phone.
Hello all, I have a Total Wireless aka Verizon TracFone branded S5, so it's model s902l but it's g900v hardware with unlocked bootloader. Of course they never released any updates so I'm wondering if some will share a twrp backup of the newest, or if you believe another is better, their modem and bootloader for me I'd like to try it, worse case I restore my backup if it doesn't take.
Thanks

The Modems are located on the following thread.
[BASEBAND-FIRMWARE-MODEMS]Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 {SM-G900V/KLTEVZW}[ODIN] by Ibuprophen
As far as the Bootloader... you will need to be careful when it comes to that because you can permanently lock it up and, possibly, brick it too.
I'm not sure where any of the separate Stock Bootloader files are on the forum since those who, typically, need it installed back on the device normally just flashes the Stock Firmware via Odin.
I've got a feeling that you might possibly be referring to the Stock Recovery and not the Bootloader.

There's a handful of TWRP flashable ones in the OP of that thread.
The only reason that the thread title states "Odin" is because most of them are Odin flashable ones.
I'm one of the threads Developers and u planned on creating the additional Recovery flashable ones soon but, am just delayed a bit.
The Odin flashable ones are actually the preferred method for most members anyway because of the additional safety checks by Odin.

I'll look again but read on one of the posts that they weren't TWRP flashable? I don't have a computer to use Odin right now and last time I tried those very safety checks you mention prevented me from flashing 900v files to my 902l branded phone. Ended up with a read only modem for a bit for trying. Of course the only factory firmware available anywhere is older than what came on mine and what sounds like everyone else's branded phone so have to be careful. That's why I was hoping for a backup to try rather than flashing something, maybe I don't fully understand the process but thought it'd be a safer route?
Am I supposed to use one of the SS/FF zips?
Last time I was attempting to upgrade my bootloader and modem I was following a thread that was supposed to both upgrade those and unlock the bootloader of actual 900v phones. According to that thread SS/FF zips aren't compatible with TWRP because they work differently?
Well I tried the newest available zip, it took about 15 minutes to flash and said successful but baseband still s902ludu3aog2 so that didn't work... Still hoping to get ahold of a backup I can just restore it at least try, unless someone has another suggestion on how to get newer 900v modem and possibly bootloader on my 902l model 900v hardware?
So nobody is willing to share a backup of their modem and bootloader?!?!

I think, flashing a bootloader from another S5 variant is a bad idea, most likely you'll brick the phone. Prepare an unbrick microsd at least to be ready, but nothing is guaranteed.
I don't think you'll manage to flash modem and bootloader from TWRP because TWRP means Samsung's binary state: custom and these partitions are protected in custom state.
I think, your best bet is to revert to factory recovery, get Samsung binary: official, root the phone and use SS or FF.
Not possible, factory firmware doesn't seem to exist, only 1 does and it's older than what it came with from the factory. Also it's Verizon hardware, same FCC id, but different model and comes with unlocked bootloader. I don't want to flash anything, I just want to restore a backup.
I appreciate your advice but I already been thru all of this...
Flashing is simply not going to work unless there's a way to change my device model maybe?
All I really want is somebody with a modem and bootloader newer than KitKat to please back them up in TW RP and share them please.

If the hardware is physically identical I don't understand why running a bootloader meant to run on this exact Hardware would cause a problem?
But I'm primarily interested in an updated modem. Neither will Flash since there are no updated modems for this MNVO branded Verizon phone.

Here you are:

SM-G900V, DQI2, TWRP 3.2.1-0, boot (kernel) and modem backup.
TWRP cannot backup bootloader, but I can try dd if you need.
Good luck.
