TWRP won't factory reset after backup - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I recently did a backup (NucleaROM, 7.1) in TWRP and it strangely went to 101%. Stuck on "generating md5" for a minute.
Then, when I restarted my phone, it acted like 2 times slower than usual, from the boot animation, and didn't stop.
I then did a factory reset and tried flashing the ROM and Gapps again. Open GApps project couldn't finish, TWRP rebooted.
I received the "swipe to allow modifications" slide and actually slided it the second time, because I wasn't able to restore the first time, when I clicked on read only.
I now am stuck in the recovery, I have backups on my external card, TWRP won't read Internal card, I can't factory reset due to mount error and therefore can't restore any backup.
Everything went wrong just after trying to do a normal backup. What did I miss ?
Thx

Well good thing you have a backup on your external card. I'll suggest you perform a "Format Data" in the Advanced Wipe section of TWRP. It should be able to solve it. Looks like a minor corrupted storage problem.

Help understanding what I did wrong in twrp

So I was experiencing weird battery behavior so I decided to reflash cleanrom 1.1 but first wiping my device. Apparently just wiping the device wasn't enough or I did it wrong. I selected advanced and selected system, cache, dalvik cache. I installed rom and when I rebooted I noticed my apps were all there, nothing changed from the cleanrom 1.1 install I had on there before. I rebooted back to recovery and this time I selected format data and wiped again. This time I went to try and relflash rom and yep, I deleted all my data so there was no roms or any backups to restore from. I figured my device was completely formatted/wiped and I had no rom installed. I started to panic lol, I even rebooted twrp into bootloader hello. I just tried to get back to recovery at that point, so weird thing was when I was in the "bootloader mode" and it was asking for some pin code a call came through. Someone was trying to call me? Anyway out of curiosutiy I held the power button and selected power off and restart and when it loaded into cleanrom 1.1 asking me to enter my settings and I started installing my apps since I had no tb to restore from as I formatted earlier. My question is, what did I do wrong? I just wanted to wipe my device and install a fresh cleanrom 1.1, not actually format my device completely.
advanced wipe
I wouldve just advanced wiped everything but internal storage. Your backups should be on internal storage so I'm not sure why formatting deleted them. Whenever I install a fresh ROM I do an advanced wipe of system data cache and davlik. Never done a non advanced wipe. Hope this helps.

International galaxy Note 3 stuck in boot loop

My international Glalaxy Note 3 just started boot looping. When I turned it on first thing today. Yesterday it was functioning fine.
I removed the battery for 30 seconds still nothing. I booted into recovery, (TWRP) and wiped cache still nothing. So I backed up my phone to an External SDCard, and wiped data still nothing.
So I erased the whole device except recovery, and restored from the backup to try, and retrieve some essential files. Before reinstalling a fresh. The issue is when I go to the internal sdcard on storage it shows as empty with only a TWRP visible. I did get a notification that supersu was not installed. When rebooting the phone after wiping it. But I selected for twrp to install it so it should be there.
I have also tried to recover the data via looking at the backup on my computer but the backup is in a non human readable format.
Any idea how to get the data I need out of the phone or from the backup before I reinstall the OS?
What twrp you are using? Try reflash the twrp recovery to see if the twrp backup still there? Before you wipe did u wipe internal storage too?

You said you wiped evrything.. So it includes Internal storage too right! And TWRP automatically creates the folder evrytime you boot into it.. If want the data from your External storage, try taking the card out and copy it or use MTP with TWRP. Then flash your fresh Rom.

Factory Reset Failure

I installed TWRP on my device. It worked nicely and I booted into twrp recovery. I thought of doing a factory reset. So, I selected the format option on TWRP. It showed something like "Formatting Data using make_extfs". I left it there. My brother came and pulled out the battery from the mobile. I booted up the phone thinking the process was over. I was stuck in a bootloop. I then booted into twrp again. I tried to wipe cache, but a error message came up showing something like "Failed to mount /data". I tried recovery option on TWRP. There it is showing, 0 MB internal storage. I think the storage got corrupted. Any solutions to this?
Try wiping your all partitions. All at once

[Solved] Soft-Bricked OnePlus 5, TWRP works, but nothing else

I'm not sure what happened, I was flashing a kernel, and suddenly my device stopped booting, getting stuck at the OnePlus logo, with 'Powered by android". TWRP was installed, so I tried restoring a backup, but that didn't help. I tried flashing the stock 4.5.5 full zip, it would still stay at the OP logo screen. I tried wiping the phone, flashing the stock full zip, still stuck at boot. I tried going back to the stock recovery (I know, risky), and it succeeded in flashing, but when I boot to recovery, the screen just goes black, and I have to hard-reboot. I can however flash TWRP back, and it seems to work fine. When I look in the file manager on TWRP, I can see things in the system partition, but I still can't boot to it.
I'm starting to panic now, so any help would be appreciated.
To clarify, even doing fastboot boot OP5_recovery.img brings be to the black screen
It may be that you have an issue with encrypted data partition which you cannot recover otherwise
Try flashing TWRP, then in TWRP select "Wipe", "Format data" and answer with "yes" when asked for confirmation.
NOTE: when doing the steps above the whole data partition will be erased, including internal storage - so when in doubt back up your data before proceeding

I had already done that a few times.
However, wiping fixed it, but not in TWRP. doing fastboot -w fixed it, and the phone was able to boot to stock recovery. After that I flashed system zip, and TWRP again, and I'm back up (just got it working 15 mins ago)
Thanks for the answer, though!

TWRP/G6 not mounting system

Hi
I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP as described in the tutorials here. I then also flashed SuperSU. Afterwards I booted into stock Android and it worked. I wanted to do a factory reset so that after reinitializing I could install all my apps automatically. I went into TWRP --> Wipe --> Slide to Wipe. After rebooting it asked me for the pincode to decrypt. Since that didn't work I wiped everything except the SD Card and flashed lineage. Since then, my G6 keeps booting into TWRP. I even tried AquariOS (randomls chosen ROM) and I have the same results. I checked into "backup" in TWRP and the system partition is about 1GB. I then wiped it, and it went down to almost 0 I think. I then reflashed lineage and it was again at almost 1GB. So as it seems it is writing something. I then went into "mount" and system was not selected. I checked it and "mount system partition as read only", rebooted into the system, and it booted into TWRP again, system was unchecked under mount, but the read-only option was still checked. tried the same without the read-only option, same result. So now my G6 keeps mounting into TWRP instead of the ROM.
Any ideas what I can do?
Format data in recovery, don't wipe. It will disable encryption. Flash stock 14a again and see if you can get it to boot
I fixed it, somehow TWRP was messed up. I redownloaded it and reflashed it and then it worked
