I picked up a 2nd hand NXT-L29 off ebay. The IMEI numbers check out OK but the serial number is reporting ' 123456789ABCDEF' so is missing.
HCU Cannot find the serial number.
Is there any better way to find it?

check any labels and/or stickers on the phone or in the box it came with, the serial number is usually printed somewhere...

you can use it without serial number, its fine.
But few more things i will tell you in advance.
1. you will not be able to unlock bootloader, not even with dc-unlocker
2. most likely oem info will be damaged already.
3. if oem info is not there, then updates are not going to work
4. You are not alone, i have fixed some phones with same problem. most devices sold on ebay are tempered , that is why they are cheaper.
if you don't have box, serial number can be found under back cover. yes you have to open it.
Sent it back as inability to root is a deal-breaker.
I was told elsewhere that it could also be the result of a repair or manufacturing fault but I don't feel like prising it open to find out.
The only question is why do Huawei make you jump through so many hoops to unlock the bootloader when most other manufacturers just have the adb&fastboot?
yes, u can fix it using the HCU tool to repair or reinstate serial/imei but you have to have that information at hand..once done repairing you can proceed to read the bootloader code using the same tool..at fastboot, the phone may already show that bootloader unlocked but all you have to do is unlocking the bootloader again using code received from HCU tool, via fastboot oem unlock XXX.
Then your bootloader is unlocked and ready to flash twrp and root..if youre doing it right, it will cost you 12 euro, 8 credits for repairing serial/imei and 4 for getting new bootloader code using HCU..note that even if you restored serial/imei back to original, the original bootloader code received from huawei website will no longer work so you have to get new one from HCU, or DC-unlocker tool
You can use hcu to repair and to get unlock code only using 8 credit. Just do both things without closing the software.
I bricked my phone and ended up with no SN when flashed with DC Phoenix.

Hello! forgive me if I disturb you, but I wanted to ask you a question: can you confirm that I can repair my serial number and read the bootloader unlock code using only 8 credits / 8 EUR?
What version of HCU Client did you use?
Because I bricked my Honor 8, I recovered it with DC Phoenix and so:
- I lost my serial number, replaced by a generic 0123456789ABCDF
- the old bootloader unlocked code I obtained from Huawei now no longer works because DC Phoenix also changed the Product ID of the phone and I want to read the bootloader unlock code.
It would be perfect to fix everything with only 8 EUR instead of 12 EUR.
Thanks!

Yes, I confirm, I mean that's what I did, and that's what DC Service told to me.
You can do both with only 8 EUR just do both without closing the software in between. It saved my Mate 8.
I used last HCU software provided on website.

, and when i wrote to them 3 days ago still didn't get any answer. So I was just thinking is there any other way to unlock bootloader?
I was thinking about using something like kingoroot to get root access, then getting some kind of custom recovery, then getting normal root and getting rid of kingo, but have no idea will it work and how to get it to work. Any ideas? Or should i just stay with unrooted p8....
well that site did not work me for me too...
i used this link:

Hi, be careful with Kingroot; I used it on my Huawei P8 lite and it bricked my phone (could not update any app and not go back to factory settings). Also the Huawei website was hopeless for me. But I got the unlock code by PHONING the general Huawei helpdesk. I used a Dutch phonenumber (free calling, no cost) because I live in NL, but you should look for such a number in your country. The man was very helpful, asked for my SN, IMEI and product ID and one day later he phoned bak with the unlock code
Hotline support, view our global hotlines. Google on these sentences on the Huawei general pages. I wish you succes. Jos

Yes, many users have reported that rooting through Kingroot bricked their device, but it worked like a charm for me... Anyways, if you want to do via kingroot way, please understand every risk...

Since the imei is all zeros, you've already lost the imei.
Can you return the phone to the seller or ask the seller for the phone imei? You may have to take the phone to a repair shop to have them reprogram the imei.

A have imei a dont have samsung serial number
You just need to program the IMEI. I don't think the serial # will matter.
Can you send the phone back to the seller?

Do you want to unlock your bootloader
emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/index
What will happen if i just unlock but never proceed with unlocking using ADB or flashing any custom twrp.
Once i input the unlock code is my warranty still valid?
Your warranty will hold you. Boot-loader unlock or root is not a problem in Europe under EU law.
My p10 lite was hard-brick and Dr. Mobile has done board-swap for free. The first six months must be a vendor to prove that the problem is yours.
First two months even no request for cost research.
I was wondering if someone can help me get the bootloader unlock code for me
IMEI1: 867928037394271
IMEI2: 867928037414285
Serial number: 9DC7N18530000998
EAN: 6901443158102
Huawei not giving me any code i try to flash another recovery like TWRP it says FAILED: Command NOT ALLOWED
Huawei won't give me a code either. I even stated that I'm aware that unlocking may void my warranty and that I've rooted etc numerous phones before. Still they won't give me the code... Anyone got any luck in getting the code in recent days?
Thanks
Edit: Nevermind, got it sorted. DC Unlocker did the job, and costs only €4.

My friend attempted to sell his Samsung Galaxy S8 on Ebay. The guy bought it, told Ebay it didnt work, STOLE the IMEI and attempted to flash it. He half new what he was doing. He got his money backand my friend got a S* that he just dont want due to the headaches he has had over it all ready. I got it and this is the info on it now.

It currently has a combo ROM installed with no back up and I have no knowledge of what is the correct ROM it needs.
If some one can steer me in the right direction?
So I can use the limited functions on this ROM and I do have USB debugging enabled and Unknown Sources enabled.

Any g950u firmware that is revision 4 or higher. The 5th digit from far end is revision. Which will be a Oreo firmware. Root is not possible and that revision.
All the firm's are the same the CSC file in the firmware download determine the carrier. Updateo.com or Sam mobile. Com will have the needed firmware to get you up and running
The only question I have is what if whomever did this had flashed the wrong ROM to begin with? I would be flashing it based on a incorrect ROM as this is where the reading of the digits like a cars VIN number comes in to play? So if someone put a different tag on it, the wrong one, and I flash it based on that, I could potentially not only hard-brick it, but also short out circuity on the motherboard right? If what I stated is true, then how could I go about getting the stock info for this phone? Samsung possibly? And If im wrong, sorry im just being cautious as this is a pretty expensive phone, even for a messed up one I seen them go for a lot on Ebay, and way higher if unlocked and Rooted.

Can't be rooted revision 2 and down. The imei is cert cpid based. Not easily changeable at random. Their are imei services that can do it. Bassicly what I said is how it is. These locked bootloader prevent any major flashing with Odin. As in you can't hard brick with firmware and Odin unless say a power outage when writing the bootloader. The cpid is done by server so it is unique to each device. He could not have just taken the efs. it does not even lie in the efs. It's all in a partition called proc. Even if I where to dump your imei I could not flash it to my device due to this security feature which is implented. The imei cert would fail and I would have absolutely no signal
OK thanks!
