Hey
I'm very into G6 design. Now have G4, and I'm very satisfied with pictures quality, my work depends on pictures (I'm tattooist). Just wanted to ask you guys - is it worth to upgrade to G6? Is this phone have better pictures than G4? Maybe someone have both of this phones, and can take some samples to compare?
Pls share your thoughts, thx
I don't think that anything out right now is worth the upgrade. The phone isn't significantly different in my opinion. No picture from the cell phones will beat a DSLR though, so if quality is what you want, that might be best anyway.
The G6 is hands down better than the G4. I hate to put the G4 down like that. Even the G5 was a upgrade from the G4
The dual camera on the G5 is amazing and I wouldn't expect less with the G6

@ianwardell I know DSLR is the best, but in my way carrying two is problem.
@hyelton - you say G6 have way better pictures than G4?

My G5 has way better pictures than the G4. So yes. Along with the G5 and G6 performance wise blows away the G4.

Go check out Flickr. I don't own the G6. They are loads of samples at flickr and just search LG G6.
G6 uses a really old sensor. It's from September 2015. Also nearly no Nougat for G4. Also V20 has bootloop issues, who tells me, that G6 will not have. Therefore I will change the phone. I compared Huawei P10 with my G4, it makes much better pictures. Therefore I will switch to Mate 9 or S8.
I would rather go for the G5. G5, G6 (better wide camera) is about the same. Main difference is about the design. G5 offers the best value.
if you are going for camera quality, get galaxy s7 or the new s8. Tested 2 days ago and it really is amazing.
Never go for LG anymore, i rather buy an iPhone 7 than another LG smartphone.. The new Samsung S8 or Huawei P10 also is a good alternative..

G6 has IP68, G5 has not.
I will tell you one thing. Whatever it's G5 or G6 or even G8(exclusive leak!) it will *spoiler* bootloop on you I wouldn't consider it as it's basically worse version of Galaxy S8 with better camera, nothing else. LG ****ed everything again as aspect ratio is only used in stock apps while S8 can at least fit 16:9 on 18.5:9 which I find quite useful with such useless screens(who really needs that stupid aspect ratio? I won't buy phone with something else than 16:9)
I compared a G6 in the store to my G4 and the picture quality of the G6 was better especially if you like more of a color boost but the speaker of the G6 wasn't as good and that's my most used feature of my G4 it gets used way very more than the water proofing of my old Xperia Z3 and both LG G6 & Xperia Z3 phones loose sound in the speakers for 24 hours after being submerged in water.

G6 has no notification light, realized it a few days ago. For me it's important, maybe for you too.
it doesn't have IR port also, no remote control support anymore
it's a beautiful phone but functionality wise, you loose things and pay for it

If you really want to compare cameras, do it here http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=4&idPhone1=6901&idPhone2=7815&idPhone3=8466. Click on different parts of the photo in the left and you will see that colors are actually better represented on G4, G6 has more detail on some parts of it, G5 is pretty similar to G4. The hardware is not that different on the cameras that are comparable (the ones with AutoFocus, no wide lens). A big difference is done in the postprocessing. G6 has Nougat, G4 has Marshmallow. Compare G5 with G6, both running Nougat. When all 3 will have Nougat, then somebody should do a test with all 3 of them in the same lab environment.
Regarding functionality, you get what you get. Some people complain about a missing IR blaster, but I rarely use it. I personally do not like the all glass design of the G6 and the fact that even in 2017 LG does not have a strong update plan. There were people saying that G5 is free from bootloop, but it is not, there are still some issues, although not as many as G4 had. Nobody can tell you that the G6 will be better supported than the G4 or if it is better. We are all pretty subjective when it comes to our opinions, no matter how hard we try, our opinion is formed from all our experience. I, for one, will not choose a LG tablet/smartphone because of the sporadic software update.
LG software update track record doesn't seemed good enough for me to continue.
Those low range phones and tablet from Samsung seemed to have even more update than what I received.
Android O is almost coming out. But g4 is still waiting for nougat. And has any LG phone been updated to 7.1?

Can't decide between the two.
Love HTC for Viper Rom and rooting
G6 seems like a great phone but no root for the dual sim version.
Both around £320
It's a shame LG dual SIM devices never got much development...
The 10 is a fantastic device, built like a tank, and feels much, much sturdier than the G6. Great audio, with fine tuning on the jack, as a result with good headphones, the 10 might even be better than the Quad Dac G6. I have both right now, it's a dilemma picking one over the other. I might keep the 10, I don't trust myself and I'm really concerned about breaking the glass back of the G6. I really like the wide camera but I don't take that many pictures. Every day performance is the same, they both fly. The small bezel design is very attractive though. Hard choice, I must admit... I didn't help much.
I'm debating this myself soon. If the G6+ comes to the US and I can get a good deal on it through a carrier I will likely go with the G6 because I have the G5 and have been very happy with it. But if it doesn't, I want that quad dac and the 10 is built like a tank. If I can get a deal I might get the 10.
I just got my G6 yesterday. Coming from an S8.
The G6 feels extremely secure in the hands compared to the S8. Much more sturdier. It rightfully so deserves the military grade it has.
Ive owned the HTC 10 from last year, and don't remember much about it.
It was a very great phone that felt nice due to the build. Audio quality was second to only the V20 I had.
Nothing wrong with the phone at all.
I'd take the G6 over the 10 for these reasons alone
- ip68
- audio from US version is acceptable. Actually very good. Not V20, but slightly lower. Better than the S8.
- the screen tech is welcoming. HDR and Dolby Vision.
- 821
- overall great bargain for the price I paid of $380USD

Screen and camera of the G6 blows away the 10, Audio on the 10 blows the G6 away.
So HTC 10 - Audio and sturdyness (Tank), Camera and waterproof but Fragile (No way military spec sorry) G6.

You just need to submit your offer to a desperate seller.

Well my questions is that, now that you know how G6 works and performs would you change it for an S8+
Why yes why not?:good:
No way. The s8's fingerprint reader and curved screen are deal breakers even independent of each other.

Never!
The G6 has a lot of more durability than the S8+, a better camera (dual camera), a better camera app (manual video mode) and a better performance (yes, LG UX is better than Samsung's "new" Grace UX). The only thing is the design, but that's just only reason for spending lots of money...
And ... the G6 is a lot cheaper than the S8+.
I hope I helped you and sorry for my bad English.

I changed my G6 for S8. But I cannot say that S8 is better. It is just a different.
LG G6:
+ It looks more like a real phone not like a toy. You don't have the feeling that it can be easily damaged.
+ Better grip.
+ Colors are looking natural on LCD than AMOLED.
+ Lower night battery drain.
+ Wide angle lens is an useful feature.
+ Price is lower
+ Fingerprint much more comfortable.
- Battery slightly worst than on S8 on my regular usage. On LG G6 - 5h SOT, S8 - about 6.
- Inconsistent results on the main camera. Sometimes the pictures are oversharpened and don't look real. Especially when you have some contrast scene e.g. trees and the sky. Trees will look like a 'copy paste'. Everything is to sharp. Undesirable when you make a photos of people. In general the pictures are too processed.
Example from Forbes :
S8, G6 , but note that this is a cropped photo.
Don't take the speed into consideration because you will not see the difference between these phones. Both are super fast.
S8+ is too big and too expensive. I would consider the choice between G6 and S8.
Not for anything else than curiosity. But you know what they say about that..
Both are pretty similar though. More a matter of personal taste. I like the more subtle design of the G6 over the S8 which took it too far in my opinion.

I changed because of the camera. Autofocus is not a problem. It was a lot faster than on my old galaxy s6. Only the quality of photos. In fact, this is only the software issue because you will have a great results with G6 camera making photo in RAW and editing on the computer. In my case, I just want to have a satisfied photos on auto mode.
For me it was worth to change. Everything depends also on your budget. If the difference in price is acceptable for you, go for S8. You will be satisfied with both phones but if there are some doubts that will be allways in your head - maybe it is better to change...
If the S8 is rootable...yes. My LG G6 can't be rooted and thats my only big issue with it.
I've considered trading my G6 for a S8+, mainly to get a larger screen. But I prefer the more robust construction on the G6, and the wide angle lens is a huge plus.
Paying so much more for the S8+ just ain't worth it, and I'm honestly surprised it's such a big seller compared to the G6. I guess it's probably because the Galaxy series is like the iPhone of the Android world.
Negative. Traded my S7 for the G6. Handled the S8 in store, nice form factor but the finger print sensor location and the curved screen just aren't for me. And after having the S7 for a couple months totally turned me off to Samsung phones in general. I actually hated that phone.
Why not? S8 plus has bigger screen, reliable camera, better processor (huge plus) and great display all in all with amazing screen to body ratio.

I didn't take price into consideration. I just think it is better than G6. If you buy phone based on pricing only then you would say oneplus and Axon phone are good. Here I am talking about the best phone in market. It has to be Samsung S8 plus. It is just my opinion. Price is different story all together. If something is cheap then there must be some compromises for sure. It is a fact.

I have G6 and S8 both (at the moment)
G6:
More realistic colors on an IPS panel
Knock on
Better place for FP sensor
Flat screen and more classic body design
S8:
Notification LED
Better camera (yes G6 has a good one too. But you get less processing specially on the edge of contrasting colors on S8)
Better front camera (Much better)
Samsung UX has a more modern look (compared to those outdated colors and icons on LG), more features (floating windows, continuous screenshots, etc) and a little less lags after a few months.
All of these are based on my opinions and experience. At the end of the day, It's more of a personal choice.
If you don't care about photo, flat screen with glass protection possibilities for little money and fluidity… yes
Both phones are around 420€. G6 european version has no wireless charging and DAC. I can't decide which device to buy because I had G5 and it has many hardware problems like GPS, screen retention, camera focus problems and my power button is not functional (fingerprint scanner also doesn't work anymore). Does OP5 has some problems like this?
EDIT: what about the jelly effect on the OP? Anyone has it and it is annoying?
Thanks in advance
LG G6 has lower specs, not bad but the OP5 is better there. If you buy the OP5 you don't have IP68 or the new aspect ratio and screen. Both are incredible phones, but I recently change my V20 for the OP5. Why? Because the lack of support from LG, only trhee security patches in almost 6 months with that phone. Horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE front facing camera and the worst of all; screen retention. So far I'm more convinced with the OP5 than the V20. For me LG phones never again.
G6 doesn't have screen retention.
G6 screen is better than the one from 1+5. Surely under sunlight you will be able to use the screen on G6 as viewfinder while taking pictures outside. On 1+5, this will depend on how hard is the sunlight. Photos on G6 will surely be better than on 1+5. Another thing, your European G6 got official bootloader unlock. There are many VERY good developers on G6.
Otherwise, 1+5 is the fastest phone on the market and has the best developer community of all.

Yeah g5 has some good developers too but if you unlock the bootloader of g6 warranty will be void. OP5 you can still get warranty if you unlock your bootloader.
Ihad the same dilema, and in the end in went with op5. I dont regret a second
I had the same dilema too, but the lg was too expensive, so i didnt think it a lot.
Processor: I had a snapdragon 821 with the OP3T, the 835 is way better, i mean in speed is almost the same, but you can see (mostly in games) that the 835 is not being as demanded as the 821, you get an amazing battery life doing anything, the phone does not throttle at all, the op3t throttle to 1,4Ghz and 1,2Ghz (big and little cores respectively) while gaming. The 835 stays cool all the time, im not exagerating, the phone is not even warm., maybe a little bit. I get much better battery with the op5 that has 100mah less than the 3t.
Camera: I'm not sure but i guess that the g6 is better, and the wide angle pictures are awesome, i prefer the wide angle rather than the setup on the op5. And the wide angle front camera is a nice feature too, i dont know about the quality of wide angle pictures.
Charging: Dash charge is awesome, as far as i know dash charge is better than quick charge (it doesnt heat).
Screen: The screen is better in the lg g6 (although i prefer 1080p displays), that huge screen and almost no bezzels are awesome, i love it. The screen on the g6 is HDR, i didnt read about it but you should check it out.
Battery: same 3300mah, but i guess that the lg g6 display will use more battery.
Support: Official support will be almost the same, but unofficial (community) it's way better on the op5.
I guess that's all. Sorry for my bad english!.

Had wireless chargin on my nexus 4. Never looked back when I switched to oppo find7
Keeping same technology on my op5
i change my phone also because i had hardware problem on my LG (lg gpro 2013). did i change it because it was slow? no. because wifi/bt/cellular signals were very low. new digitizer was imprecise and notification light stop working.
G6 seems a good phone, the camera is amazing ( see gsmarena tests).
at the end, im looking for a durable phone because i hate the overconsumption trend right now. this is stupid ie go from op3t to op5. ( btw its not because of money, my job pay for it )
I own a LG G6 (64gig dual SIM DAC version) but I will be trading it in for a OP5 soon. Although the LG wide angle camera is great and the phone runs fine I'm missing root and the monthly updates that I got on my OP3.
Coming from OP3, I have tried LG G6. But I quickly switched back to OnePlus. I didn't like the feel of LG's fingerprint sensor, though the position on the back is quite handy. Battery life was so-so, overall speed good. Great screen, better than OP5. Picture quality of wide angle camera needs improvement. LG has no notification LED and not mute switch, for me very disappointing, and I didn't like the always-on-feature. Community is nothing (yet) like Oneplus, and in the end I'm quite happy now with my OP5, may trade it for the 128GB version though.

Was in the same dilemma as well and in the end I choose the OP5.
Sure G6 surly would be a good choice also but the locked bootloader (with warranty void - aka. need unlock code from LG) was a deal breaker for me.
I tried both and sold my lg g6. It was lagging in all games and not fast in gaming at all. Oneplus 5 to go.

Go ahead, compare side by side. That's what I did.
OP5 amoled is much worse than G6 LCD. Just look it under sunlight.
G6 is better than OP5 on camera, screen and loudspeaker. In all other things, OP5 is better.
Have had both handsets, and stayed with the OP5. Software, hardware is way better on op5... Camera Software is better on the G6, but Camera harware is worse, yes it has ois, but I never missed that.... Only the screen even is better then on the 5, its no amoled, but 18/9 looks awesome an reloution is also better.... Stay witht he 5, there is no real alternative at the moment when it comes to nearly stock android based devices....
I went from a galaxy s8 to the oneplus 5 (I needed dual sims ). The s8 is similar to the g6 in some ways. Personally I don't think I'll ever buy another LG because they have been so unreliable for so long. Every lg I owned had a defect or hardware failure of some kind. Nexus 4, 5 lg g2, my friend's g3 I replaced the motherboard for him because of overheating. G4 and g5 both have a lot of issues and that was after I already gave up on them.
The s8 did have a nicer screen but I was a pain to watch YouTube videosv in bed without accidentally pressing the edges and fast forwarding through it. I miss the waterproofing and SD card slot but I can get over that. The oneplus is definitely much faster and has slightly better battery life.
I miss wireless charging because I want to keep this one a long time and don't want to wear out the USB port.
The jelly scrolling I would never have noticed if I hadn't read about it online. Once I remembered and actually looked for it I could just barely see it but I can't imagine it bothering me.
I really don't have any major complaints so far.
So the lg v20 and the G6 is going at 155$ here, which one should I get? I really listen to music a lot, like a lot and I take pictures of scenery here and there, but I heard lg v20s rear camera lens cover cracks! I wanted to get the v20 but that problem really concerns me so should I get the v20 over the G6? Does G6 got any problems like this? Will it be better than the V20?
It would be a great help, I am really struggling to decide.
TIA.
Go for the LG G6.
If you are the picky audiophile type, like the one to read through each and every of the 100+ headphones tested by a head-fi.org member https://www.head-fi.org/threads/shootout-114-portable-headphones-reviewed-xiaomi-mi-headphones-added-04-21-2015.433318/,
Then you will want either the
V20 that has the quad-dac
OR
The handful of G6 varients that have the quad-dac.
(Which may limit your reception bands since the us/Canadian models don't have the quad-dac, and the foreign models don't have all the usa bands).
Functionally, the two phones will be essentially the same - cpu, gpu, cameras - but the v20 has the bigger G3/G4 like size screen, whereas the G6 is the G2 but a finger width taller.
If you can't find any G6 models with quad-dac, the v20 is the easy audiophile choice.

G6 no doubt
G6, without a blink of an eye, but try buying the G6 with Quad-DAC variant...
V20 is old, did not receive any more updates, and is ugly...for 155 the G6 is way to go here, the only advantage of V20 is the IR blaster but is a thing some can live without, but overall build, look and feel is G6.
