System Update Permissions - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Recently I had a notification on my phone that there was a system update available. When I tapped on the notification, I was brought to the system update app and asked for permissions for phone, storage, calendar, SMS, and contacts. Denying them all causes the app to kick back to the main settings page. Anyone know what's going on? It seems odd that the system update app is asking for all of these permissions, and that the system update notification came up with no update available. For reference this is a ~2 week old advance exchange replacement from ZTE, I never saw the problem on the old phone. System update version FOTA.V7.0.1.3.

Those permissions are needed to backup your messages, call logs etc. in case you have an SD card update that wipes data.

Droid 2 stuck in "An update is currently being downloaded"

My droid has been trying to update since I bought it several days ago. When I go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates, it says:
"An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete." A downloading icon is no longer showing.
After days of this, on both wifi and 3g, it's clearly not downloading.
Originally, I switched from 3g to wifi in the middle of the download. And from what I've googled, that's what did it. I've found several reports of this problem but no solutions.
The Droid is rooted.
I've found that fota downloads updates. I've tried looking for fota data, and any other filename that might suggest a partial download. I believe there's a partial download somewhere and that is causing the system to believe an update is being downloaded? I tried booting without the SD card to see if data on the SD card is causing this to happen. And I received the same downloading message above without the SD card in place.
Any ideas?
ive been having the same problem, id really like a solution!
Same here...
I have also been having this issue, but with applications in the market... I noticed that the .apk file does download to my sdcard/downloads folder and I can manually install it, but I don't want to do that every time I install/update an app. It doesn't happen every time, but very frequently. Thanks to anyone that can help!
Fixed it by clearing the data for the market.

[Q] System update downloaded, but I'd rather delete it

The other day, the new system update that started appearing earlier this month downloaded without my action, and is now sitting at the top of my "Ongoing" list in the pull down menu. I don't want to instill it, nor do I want to have it remaining in place so that I accidentally install it (I'm rooted and don't want to deal with unrooting, then installing a seemingly problematic update).
I can't seem to find the file to delete it. Any insight?

I have the same exact problem anyone got a solution?
Long press the notification and unchecked the check box for notifications. Then the update is in the cache partition use root explorer to delete it.

I got an OTA update to 5.1 last night

Anyone else?
I got the OTA update of Android Lollipop 5.1 on 06/18/2016 for Blu Vivo Air
I got it too, for some weird reason I ave three complains 1) media volume and volume in general seems to be lower with the new update 2)there's something in particular going on with the storage, I have more than 8gb of space available and when ever I go to download my 8th app, it tell me i have no space to download, even when the app is just 19 mb 3)emoticons seem to remain the same as Kit Kat, hideous yellow smiley blobs of some sort with now way to change the font of the system, other than that I love 5.1 interface a lot more than Kit Kat 4.2. I would just advice BLU to fix this issues on Vivo Air phones
The emoji are the same here as well. The storage is also a problem for the new update. The "move to internal storage" or "move to phone storage" option is gone sadly. I think that has something to do with it, because I have at least 7gb of phone storage free. Other than that the update is fine.
weather app
I got it too, lost the weather app, somebody has it? please
I am having problems with the com.android.phone process. Keeps closing continuously. Was forced to root and uninstall the Phone apk using TiBu.
Did you all do a full reset ?
Also agree with naylo85's #2 - storage is acting weird (probably play store). If I install apks directly, they work. I got TiBu and Kingo on device root installed that way.

Disable Software Update

Every 15-20 minutes, a popup message comes up with telling me there is a software update available. I have already rooted my phone, and attempting to install the update just fails, but the popup continues to come up even when it fails. Is there a package I can disable/freeze or somewhere I can go to get this annoying thing to go away? It's got a notification that appears with a little syncing icon in the bottom corner in the notification bar, so I figure there is something somewhere I can disable, but not sure where to look...
Use a root file explorer to delete this folder system/priv-app/wssyncmldm or you can freeze it.

Removed the folder and reset the phone; notification still came up in the notification bar. Popup also still comes up on the screen.
Got rid of it for me, I also removed the 2 other folders below it. The other wss.... folders. Hope that helps. Edit: forgot I was in the VZW forum, I have att maybe there is another app for updates. Sorry
Try to freeze "SDM", that should do the trick. If it doesn't clear it, then clear the cache for SDM and then freeze it.

Searched for a package named SDM, couldn't find it; same thing searching for an app named SDM in the Application Manager. Is there another name for it? Because I searched also for something with the name of "Samsung D... M..." and couldn't find anything with that name...

I'm sorry, it's both of these I believe
System updates (com.samsung.sdm)
System updates (com.samsung.sdmviewer)
Right on the nose. Disabled and haven't seen the messages/notifications since.

Make sure you disable securitylogagent also.
I disabled these two with package disabler pro.
System updates (com.samsung.sdmviewer)
securitylogagent
I don't see this package:
System updates (com.samsung.sdm)
I am still getting the annoying notifications. Search has not revealed any other solutions.

Try to disable diagmonagent in package disabler it should do the trick.
This did not work for me.
I enabled all the packages. I then force stopped, cleared cache, and memory in application manager. I then disabled all three again and restarted.
The next day the popup returned.
In Titanium backup, simply open up both system update packages, freeze them then long press them each till you can select "open system details"
Once you open system details force stop and select notifications
set all notifications to off.
Once completed you can go into settings/ and select System updates, it should FC
Hope this helps.

Doesn't Titanium backup require root?

Yes. Maybe you can disable the same apps going to settings/application manager/ more -system apps/ system updates
As i have located them.
I think this is the fix! I have not received any update notifications since.
More comprehensive instructions?
G935V non-rooted (came from rooted) and I cannot get rid of the OTA notifications. I found and disabled securitylogagent and com.samsung.sdm.sdmviewer but cannot find com.samsung.sdm Still get the notification, can disable temporarily by clearing cache of system updates through system app manager, but they return later. Did someone figure out how to disable update notifications, as they do annoy me! Thank you!
Go to Application Manager for Samsung Galaxy S5 SM G-900V and "Turn Off"
1. System Updates (about 1.6mb or more in size)
2. System Updates (about 156 kb in size , rIght below it)

Settings / Updates crashes

Today I made a strange observation on two A2017G: the ZTE update function ("Settings / Updates") crashes when you open it (both phones are on 7.1.1). It doesn't really matter at the moment but it's still rather weird. The phone keeps working normally despite the crash of the update function. Do you guys see the same behaviour?
No problem here
Interesting bug: if you have any ZIP file in the root directory of your SD card, the update app will crash. That was the reason why the update app crashed on my phone. I moved the ZIP files to a sub directory which solved the problem.
Updates crashes Settings app
I'm having the same problem. Everytime I select Updates in my settings menu, I get a message that settings app has crashed. Phone still works, don't need to power cycle. But I can't figure out how to get into the update menu.
UPDATE: I solved my problem. There is a System Update app that had been disabled. Took some digging around to find it, but after I enabled it I was able to get into the Update menu. My phone is downloading updates as I'm typing this. Hope this helps.
