Suddenly 6 hours SoT without changing anything - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I suddenly got 6 hours of SoT! And this on my usual all stock unrooted 7.1.2 setup with my usual usage. Nothing updated or changed.
I usually get somewhere between 3 and 4 hours.
What is going on here? Is the SoT parameter buggy?

Maybe an app got updated? Or Google play services?

Yeah, maybe. Got a couple of updates yesterday, but nothing to do with Google.
Will be interesting to see what SoT I get on next charge.

Did u charge your phone halfway through the day and completely forgot? Lol or maybe it never reset the sot from your last charge. It's weird for your phone to randomly double it's battery life even if an app got updated or whatever. Battery size is still the same.

battery *charges* from 1% to 14% in 3 mins

i was charging my phone and it went from 1% to 14% within 3 mins! is this something that can be caused by dirty flashing (i'm on the latest PA)? this happened a few weeks ago, i reset to factory and installed PA, but it's happened again now. not sure if hardware issue and i should do an RMA
It's fine. There a small battery bug that inputs the wrong value. No need to RMA.

I m on stock and my battery charges rapidly like this..uptil 70 or 80%. Think that's normal.
ah ok. thanks guys

Battery life as of now

Hi all I'm a nexus 4 owner...I want to change my phone cause of the battery life..3 4 sot max.
Do you guys have a substantially better battery life? Rooted or not, over under volted or not?
Another thing: will note 4 have a good developer community? My old nexus still have fast updates (I'm rooted and not stock from minute one)
Thank you

6 hours SoT most days with N910C on stock unrooted 5.1.1 (COH4). This is with WiFi and Bluetooth on all day and screen at just a little above minimum brightness, except when outdoors. No powersaving on. If you hunt around the forums you will find others with varying results though! :silly:
I'm getting about 5-6 SOT with wifi, bt and 4g on all the time. 5.1.1 NL version, 100% stock. Brightness is kept on auto with the slider at 10.

Ditto with SOT except I typically use CM12.1 nightlies (can't seem to go back to 100% stock whatsoever after 5.1.1. Oh well). Currently trying Sac23's Note 5 Port ROM to see how a Note 5 software does on a Note 4.
I'm usually getting on a good rom around 4-4.5h SOT. But mostly i get 3-3.5h. If you want good battery life get a xperia z3, i used to get 6-7 hours SOT. Don't play with it underwater though, lol.

Battery problem.

Oneplus 2, a great device with some flaws such as battery. For me, battery is not good. I get 4 hours SOT with medium usage ( WhatsApp, coc, chrome etc )
I use greenify too (without xposed). Thats the story of all ROMs. I never gone above 5 hours SOT. My highest SOT is 5 hours 2 mins on Oxyslim. But only for 1 cycle. But on all custom ROMs I only get 4-4.5 hours SOT. Can any1 suggest me some tips?
PS- does overcharging (over night) affects this device's battery life?

Hello and good evening,
if you are using a custom ROM, you can try doing this:
[GUIDE][07-02-2016]Extreme Battery Life Thread(Greenify+Amplify+Power Nap)✭
Charging over night does not improve or damage the battery.
Kind regards

The battery controller prevent overcharging, I often charge overnight, battery is still great (6 months usage)
Try tracking your wakelocks

Thank you all for your solutions. I'll try and report [emoji1]

Got my OP2 a few days ago. Have the same issues with it. (OOS2.2.1)
i have a lot of wakelocks (550 per hour) from google play services.
NlpCollectorWakelock & NlpWakelock are producing this.
i tried this from a LG G2 User:

but nothing helps..
Same happens with OOS 3.0.0 beta and CM13

Sudden improvement in SoT after June patch

What?! Second charge after the June patch and suddenly I'm looking at about 4.5 hour SoT. Used to be 3.5 before. Anyone else seeing this?

I've noticed this too, not entirely sure what they'be done. Also don't know what took them this long, but I'm not complaining now it's even longer

9.0.11 Battery Drain

Here are the stats:
Verizon
9.0.11
Not rooted
I updated yesterday and the battery drain is a crapshow. Fully charged since 9 am, and its 1:30 now and I'm 84%, with a 6 min screen on time.
I literally touched my phone 10ish just to check messages and text a few people.

Install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
Then do some proper measurements. With just your explanation we can't do much ...
Install a kernel. I get 10 hrs screen time with radioactive
Not seeing a difference with 9.0.11 on mine over previous versions.
As for suggesting installing a kernel on a non rooted phone :-/
I also have the same problem, when I was in 9.0.7 I was able to get as much as 13hours screen on time in 48 hours or 7 hours in 6 days. Amazing battery life. Updated yesterday and the phone cannot compare. It is draining as much as 10% over night.
I am stock, no root.
Yeah they fcked something up.
Also beta2 has issues with standby drain...
I've seen this on and off. Some nights latent drain is 3%, others it is 13% with almost no app usage monitored.
Maybe cellular draw? Tonight I'm going into airplane mode with WiFi on and see what happens.

Do you have any social media apps? 7 hrs of sot in 6 days without a charge is nuts even that 13 hours of SOT in 48 hrs is impressive. I've been nowhere near those numbers with my 6t

no social media apps whatsoever besides viber and skype (but these do not count as facebook and the others) but even these are battery optimized.
phone is draining a lot now, not sure why. all is the same as before the update.

I agree. 9.011 is definitely draining battery faster than 9.07

Ya it must only be possible to get that good of sot without those apps. Do you use any Google apps, I know that is another battery drainer which decreases maximum sot potential.

Yes, I use a lot of them, maps, Gmail, keep, calendar, etc etc.
Move to beta 2
Last night I let my phone on .11 sit idle for 9 hours in airplane mode with WiFi on. It drained 7 % over this time which is more than I used to see on build .07 with cell service on.
The odd thing is that apps are reporting very low usage (in total less than 1% of the battery overnight) so I need to look deeper. Phone is >95% deep sleep overnight.
Some nights low drain, some nights high, no pattern I have found.

.11 overnight (8 hours) on mine is currently draining around 3% over that period with everything on as normal.
I have experienced the same. But, after having .11 installed over a week now suddenly my SOT has improved to same level I had with .07.
I have read somewhere that since it is software controlled the system has to "learn" the most efficient way to handle, e g the option "Smart battery" (have that always on), and that process should take approx 1 week.
I do not know what's happens when I updated to a newer version. Maybe the system has to "relearn" again? My device is rooted, so I receive the full version on every update (no incremental) - maybe that also have an impact on the battery performance.
I do not say there lays any proof in this "theory", but my battery life is very good again (around 13 hours SOT/48 hours total). So in case you have updated recently, be patient for some extra days.
If I knew about this I would have stayed with 9.0.7. Let's hope they fix this soon.
Rebooted about an hour before going to bed, let phone charge to 100%. Unplugged. 9 hours later it was still at 98%. This was the first reboot in a while. Just a data point; previous night even with cellular off it lost lots more than that.

Suggest you to Wipe Cache from Recovery after a OTA update.
No issues here with .11
